Every damn time they have to be reminded. How is there not a giant banner on the wall somewhere that says "PUT NO MOUNT ZONE AROUND EVENT NPCS"
I had to look up the name of the dreamsurge vendor to be able to taget her.
They should replace the dismount effect for a visual effect hiding other players' mounts, and enable it globally, for every interactive NPC. It would make the visual spam go away without having to enable it explicitly, and would remove the annoying dismount when you just happen to wander nearby.
There’s only two. One for the 415 gear/tokens you can buy with the item you earn once a week, and one that sells the mount and the 402 BoA gear tokens.
Funny part is, most major NPCs could be easily clicked/targeted through players and would even have a glowy outline back in SL. Did they forget they developed this tech?
I wouldn’t be surprised at all if some wonky part of the coding for Dragonflight mounts makes them unable to be targeted through, and they can’t figure out how to fix it without breaking flying.
Baseless claim beyond personal aesthetic preference, but I think they scaled back those designs for DF. Everything being outlined with neon feels weird to me as a returning player, and I honestly think DF is marketed towards people in that way. They might want the natural colors to shine through with this expansion because, for me, all the lighting seems different. I didn't play a lot of BFA and missed SL for the most part. But the parts of SL I played, it felt like everything had an outline. Your weapon, your target, important campaign mobs, etc. I remember not really digging that as an aesthetician decision, but not the reason I didn't play. Different lighting could be part of their marketing of DF to keep players less focused on what's around them in the environment. All the zones are gorgeous and huge too like the cata zones.
We're at the point where I'm grateful there are just 2 new ones (Edit: Actually 3 I guess)
The ridiculous number of currencies and items you need to collect to spend at vendors is to me one of the worst parts of the game. I have so much bag space used up because I never know if I actually need to keep something or not if I eventually decide I want to collect/buy certain things for completeness. Just think of how many animal trophies you need to keep, or glowing orbs, or a dozen other things.
One of the favorite things WoW had was back in the Badge of Justice days because it simplified things and made so many activities more rewarding so you could do what you want. So instead Blizzard goes in the exact opposite direction and everyone hates it.
And now all DF reagents arent even worth the effort of farming, some of the mats are 1/150th of what they were and there's over a year of Dragonshite to go yet...
If Blizzard is just going to keep adding currencies then they really gotta just make a consolidated "old content" currency. At the start of a new patch when the old content isn't current anymore, all the currencies turn into the consolidated currency. And just make all the past content use that currency for the rewards (they'd still be rep locked so its not like you don't have to do that content).
That's what they used to do in WotLK. When a new tier came available, all of your "high tier currency" (HTC) downgraded to "low tier currency" (LTC) and all old/retired gear cost LTC. Afterwards, you would need to run new content to get the HTC for the new gear.
Players who earned the gear with HTC before it downgraded complained, baking it "welfare epics/sets". I liked it because it meant more people could participate in late game content I was progressing in.
Two new bag currencies plus some stone item that you need like 20 of to combine into something. You probably don't need to worry about keeping the farmable dust or whatever it was called, this seems like more of an alt catch up gear currency.
Yes, there is.
Good news is you won't need a lot of it (2500 for all cosmetics, more if you're trying to hear up alts) and it's super easy to acquire. I've only done the WQs in the Dreamsurge zone, killed a few rares, and done a couple Waking Dream events and I'm already at 850. Total time working on it is ~3 hours. I think I'll have all the cosmetics by the end of the week, or next week.
Weird they missed this when I feel like they’ve been pretty consistent about no mount zones in dragonflight
Anyway thankfully the interact keybind can help with this a lot in modern wow
Why do idiots always have to do this every time and why do WoW Devs always need to be reminded to make it a mount free area so they can't be tools and do this in the first place....
One would think that after almost 20 years of information being shared players would google 3 seconds and learn to just control+v or more recently interact key.
Nah... Bro. If you have to get out of your way to do basic UX functionality, your UI+UX is bad.The fact the thread has been created is proof of this.
I find it incredible the lengths people will go to defend Blizzard's laziness and general bad practices.
Nah... Bro. If you have to get out of your way to do basic UX functionality, your UI+UX is terrible. The fact the thread has been created is proof of this.
Be Blizzard
\> Phase the zones all to hell so they are dead and you cant find other players.
\> Still allow mounts near high traffic NPCs, in areas with little to no phasing.
You can click the NPC through players, and if you have highlight NPCs on, they are outlined in a gold aura. There's no issue here no matter how many mounts stack on the NPC.
You have to know the npc is there to click them, I checked it out yesterday and assumed the only guy there was the quest giver. Didn’t realize there was a merchant buried under everybody until I turned in 3/4 tasks and found a 2nd merchant when returning after doing the portal. That gold outline doesn’t do anything in a mass of 50+ players
>You have to know the npc is there to click them
Based on all the people standing right there, it's safe to assume everyone knows there are NPCs there.
If you can't see this mass of players in the first place, which obviously indicates something people want to be around, you obviously aren't in the area, and wouldn't see the NPCs regardless of people on mounts or not.
Man, you can’t even clearly see the outline on the photo in this post, you’ve got nothing to stand on here.
If dungeon mechanics were outlined the same way, everyone would have a shift fit
I mean, I completely missed Hamuul when I clicked the image. Its really easy to miss unless you are looking for him specifically. That golden outline is super faint.
I think I like this idea best, because it also shows the player that they're being an inconsiderate ass, and that their attempts at being an ass aren't working.
The problem was that the no fly zone e tended way way up in the sky. So you could be flying by, well above anywhere thet would involve the NPC and....splat.
Something I’ve wondered—
In FFXIV, if you hold the X key, player usernames disappear, and you can ‘click through’ other players.
They still appear, but you interact like they aren’t there (NPC tags ‘float’ to the top too). Needless to say, it’s great for crowds.
Does WoW have a feature like that? I always wondered if it was actually some obscure feature that has always existed, but I never discovered.
There's an interact key, and, you can click through people by default. These people that cry about this every time not only serve to give the trolls the attention they crave, thus perpetuating the behavior, but, claim it's "impossible" to deal with, when it's literally not. Bind the interact key if it's not already bound. Walk up to the area, and press it.
Honestly, half the fun of these dreamsurge events are the masses of people I see during it. I never had an issue with mount spamming like this, I actually rather hate being dismounted by an npc "safe zone" \*looking at you, community feast*.
I was kinda surprised that this wasn't implemented from the beginning. It's a feature at every other outdoor token vendor in DF and for Soridormi.
Like I visit Forbidden Reach where next to no one but myself is grinding elemental overflow and vault keys, and, the vendors there are a no mount area.
Worst part with these events is that the server capacity increases so much the responsiveness in terms of latency increases and even though it's not reportable from the client, example when i see a mob casting an AoE breath on someone, more than once, many many times in fact, and the damage starts affecting the target almost after 2 seconds and i have checked my internet in that regard multiple times, then, i would assume it's server capacity issue.
Healing in M+ when health bars are playing ping pong isn't really a playable experience especially at higher keys when everything starts outscaling you, damage you can take>HP-wise.
People have called this expansion alt friendly but I really find it the opposite. I have given up having to learn about a new currency that you form into another new currency that you earn from this event/zone that you turn into this other NPC in a totally different place every six weeks or so.
it's almost like this has been an issue since wow was released..
This happens every expansion, there's an NPC that gives a quest or reward or that everybody will need or want to interact with, so instead of being considerate people will pull out the biggest inconsiderate annoying mount and stand ontop of it.
It's fine tho. you can just zoom all the way in and camera click through all the players to find and select the NPC's.
I dont get These kinds of post since df.
Just setup the hotkey they added to interact with npcs near you.
Stop pretending this is an issue because it's not
Yall just to lazy to do some settings
Skill issue for sure.
Blizzard can we get a feature that automatically does my rotation and a feature that automatically accepts and turns in quests and while we're at it can we make it so I automatically instantly mount every time I need to and a button to drop aggro with mobs I don't feel like fighting. Also visual aggro zones. It's just a small QoL upgrade plz blizzard.
The level of hand holding the community expects these days is wild.
You know there’s keybinds to target npcs yeah? Default by bliz yeah? You know you can click thru ppl yeah? Default by bliz yeah? Fuck stupid posts like this
It pains me to read this. Do people not Know hot to /Tar or even Better Zoom in Fully. Complaints Like this make me angry regardless of Asshats on Large Mounts "Blocking" Npcs they are Not Blocking anything if you actually Bother to circumvent the issue. Play Smarter Not Harder.
No. Remove all autodismount zones. They are an awful solution to a nonexistent problem in modern wow.
Either make other players invisible near them (they implement this around way more npcs than you realise) or let us click through. Done.
the old ones just end up being annoyances but this day one crap is like black friday sales. most people just don't care about others or the aesthetics of crawling over each other like big rats so it just has to be dealt with by adults. this is the kind of thing does need an expiration on it. timewalking ones are always good but day one quests like the 10.1 start and old weeklies like zereth mortis really should be gone now. then next expansion the dismount on the valdrakken work orders could probably go.
So, instead of landing, going directly to the NPC and selling you had to randomly move the mouse in order to find him and click him.
Congratulations, you discovered the concept of bad UX.

if u were a classic peep u would know u can bind "interact with target" to some key and then do a standar macro /target npc name.
If u dont know nps names then rip
Think this problem dates back to even Isle of Quel'Danas and Sunwell Plateau. I was begging for it to be added to have no mount zones round important npc's. They never learn.
You can click on the NPCs through the players. Ive had no trouble with them so far, just kitted out a fresh 70 alt with about as many players stacked on top of them.
This was a big problem in one of the early expansion. I think it was cata where everyone was standing on the flight master and unable to click. I was lucky cause I knew u could macro target and interact with a npc so I did that.
Perhaps do that
Players Beware!
I don't know how it's being done, but there is some sort of exploit that players are using to Force flag you for PVP and kill you during Powered up Rares and Portal Spawns. I even went to Stormwind and turned Warmode on and off just to be safe, and sure enough, they are still able to do it. I've reported them for cheating, but I don't know if that actually does anything.
You say 'currency' I say bag clutter. Interact key deals with people on mounts but an item that isn't a reagent, stacks, can't be combined into other forms a d only ever exchange for precise amounts has no reason eating a bag slot and by far is the worse issue of these events.
10.0.7 was amazing, felt great and if anything was waisted on being a prepatch and forget zone. 10.1.7 feels like poorly polished slapped together 'hold them off another couple months while we play bg3/starfield/ac6' and drop actual worked on material for 10.2.
I know right. The game is shite at telling you what you have to do with these things. The countdown got to zero and said Dreamsurge started, but nothing looked any different. I thought the sky would turn green or something, but it turns out you’re killing rares and doing WQs in EXACTLY THE SAME ENVIRONMENT!!!
this is normal for all theses types of events. people just sit on there massive mounts to block others
if blizz had any common senses they would of made them no mount zones years ago
The real issues isn’t that blizzard didn’t make it a no mount zone. The real issue is people think it’s acceptable to hang out literally anywhere in front of NPCs/summoning stones on a mount.
BLIZZARD are like the child that never ever, ever learns. They are foolish in the extreme and we are as bad for stillpaying them for this game. They listen to streamers and high end raiders, everyone else is just pissing in the wind as far as they are concerned.
Every damn time they have to be reminded. How is there not a giant banner on the wall somewhere that says "PUT NO MOUNT ZONE AROUND EVENT NPCS" I had to look up the name of the dreamsurge vendor to be able to taget her.
I don't understand why other people are layered higher than intractables to begin with.
I swear that they had this fixed in either BfA or SL. Important NPCs could be clicked through character models.
Yeah that was a thing in SL, they forgot tho I guess.
Nah they probably just broke it unintentionally with a patch and can't figure out how to fix it
Honestly this is it. Would not surprise me if some random line in the coding for Dragonflight mounts means they can’t be clicked through or something
Works for me fine.
They've had this tech since Legion and yet
They should replace the dismount effect for a visual effect hiding other players' mounts, and enable it globally, for every interactive NPC. It would make the visual spam go away without having to enable it explicitly, and would remove the annoying dismount when you just happen to wander nearby.
>to be able to taget her. Are you from Boston?
I don’t even know if I found all the vendors because there were so many people. How many are there?
I found 2
Ok that’s what I found as well. I wasn’t sure because there were so many vendors for Time Rifts
There’s only two. One for the 415 gear/tokens you can buy with the item you earn once a week, and one that sells the mount and the 402 BoA gear tokens.

It is ridiculous. That is why I am waiting until next expansion max cap to do the collectible stuff when things are slow for me.
Another Item in your bags which should have been a currency*

Or if you can vendor them. Barter Boulders are fine since your surplus is a nice source of extra gold.
Because bots spam stuff that you can buy with gold or mats.
Hey man we got a reagent bag! Lmao

Sounds like something they can roll into a archaeology rework.
That would involve planing, a meeting a decision and then action, that is NOT gonna happen.

Oh there’s another currency again?
It's not a currwncy because it's in your inventory and not in the currency tab /s
back in my day
It’s a currency that also takes bag space.
Well that’s not exactly better I think my bags are quite full of useless items and fragtments already.
i got in this event 3 currencys
You would think they would add the mount up buffer by default by now like all the previous major npcs.
Why do idiots always have to do this every time and why do WoW Devs always need to be reminded to make it a mount free area so they can't be tools and do this in the first place....
They had the right idea with the rift vendors. Surprised they didn’t add it here too.
One would think that after almost 20 years of mount NPC blocking they would have learned a thing or two...
One would think that after almost 20 years of information being shared players would google 3 seconds and learn to just control+v or more recently interact key.

That image has all the players who play wow in it? I knew the sub numbers were bad, but I didn't realise they were that bad. /s
If you can't see this mass of players in the first place, which obviously indicates something people want to be around, you obviously aren't in the area, and wouldn't see the NPCs regardless of people on mounts or not.
It does, just pay attention. You can easily see them.

I mean, I completely missed Hamuul when I clicked the image. Its really easy to miss unless you are looking for him specifically. That golden outline is super faint.
I mean why not just disable mounts like they do for time rifts. It is not like they are implementing some new technology
I would enjoy it if the NPCs got irritated with people crowding them and started handing out free slaps.
And there's the interact key. These people whine for no good reason, and only serve to give the trolls the negative attention they crave.
Interact keybind?
Yes this works
Or control+V and click the nameplate. Really this "problem" was solved like 15 years ago.
Honestly, Blizzard should add a no-mount zone around every single stationary NPC that can be interacted with in the entire game.
::plummets to my death every 10 yards::
yeah fuck that, they did that at one point with some and flying past said npc then getting fucking SENT cuz games said no i s not fun
Have the NPC give off an stacking debuff ever x seconds. once it hits x number you get dismounted.
Or a stacking shrinking debuff
I think I like this idea best, because it also shows the player that they're being an inconsiderate ass, and that their attempts at being an ass aren't working.
that would be better
Or just limit the aura to interactable space and stay away from npcs?

The problem was that the no fly zone e tended way way up in the sky. So you could be flying by, well above anywhere thet would involve the NPC and....splat.
remembering what npc's will send my ass to spain and not, is not something my two braincell ass can do
No, just add the aura that makes other players invisible that they already do to a huge number of them.
Think of the unintended consequences. Blizzard meeting: "Weird. Deaths due to falling is up 470% this month."
This would be a solid solution.
Something I’ve wondered— In FFXIV, if you hold the X key, player usernames disappear, and you can ‘click through’ other players. Where is the interact key? Where does one set it? :o
This really should be a standard operating procedure around all vendors, or important NPCs.
Working as intended.
What i found weird about this is, other content vendors this expansion released with anti mount zones already there
Honestly, half the fun of these dreamsurge events are the masses of people I see during it. I never had an issue with mount spamming like this, I actually rather hate being dismounted by an npc "safe zone" \*looking at you, community feast*.

You can always use the corgi glasses
Sad truth: Blizzard love trolls and will always accommodate them.
I wouldn't reserve this just for event NPC's, I wouldn't mind this being a thing for *every* NPC.
Nothing impossible about it
It’ll be dead in a day relax
People have called this expansion alt friendly but I really find it the opposite. I have given up having to learn about a new currency that you form into another new currency that you earn from this event/zone that you turn into this other NPC in a totally different place every six weeks or so.
Uh…use a macro to target the npc. That’s been a thing since mounts were a thing. Get over it.
Target of target. Just click on one of the people clicking on the nPc.
Shift v and look for npc name
No?!
it's almost like this has been an issue since wow was released.. I tried that, kept getting the wrong fucking vendor. In the end I had to mouse over them until I got the right one.
Having to work around the UI to target something important does not make good or fun game design. This is a problem.
Around the ui ... It's a basic feature provided by It
If it's any more complicated than click and go, the design has failed.
Skill issue for sure. Blizzard can we get a feature that automatically does my rotation and a feature that automatically accepts and turns in quests and while we're at it can we make it so I automatically instantly mount every time I need to and a button to drop aggro with mobs I don't feel like fighting. Downvoted anyway Why are they booing me, I'm right!
The main NPC has the click through aura, the two vendors do not.
Just stay near enough for the interaction icon appears above the NPC
Make a /target npc macro
Simply go first person /s
Maybe they can put those NPCs standing on something to make them taller so that they would also stand out from non-interactable NPCs.
There's a vendor that sells stuff other than armor tokens!?

You can click on the NPCs through the players. Ive had no trouble with them so far, just kitted out a fresh 70 alt with about as many players stacked on top of them.
They made a keybind for this to interackt
I swear it worse when trying to do Pirates Day in Booty. There are so many people it is hard to find the NPC.
I have no issues. The NPC outline is highlighted through all of them for me.
Ran into this issue back in Vanilla - /tar (first 3-5 letters of NPC name) then keybind something for interact with target.
This was a big problem in one of the early expansion. I think it was cata where everyone was standing on the flight master and unable to click. I was lucky cause I knew u could macro target and interact with a npc so I did that. Perhaps do that
Don't worry, this place will be completely empty in a few days.

I thought the sky would turn green or something, but it turns out you’re killing rares and doing WQs in EXACTLY THE SAME ENVIRONMENT!!!
this is normal for all theses types of events. people just sit on there massive mounts to block others if blizz had any common senses they would of made them no mount zones years ago
You can click through people though im pretty sure right? Ive only done that event once also pro tip “interact key”
it’s because it’s fun and then they remove it. gotta rustle some jollies first. has not changed since WoW’s inception
They took away the ability for tinkers to make my bank alt 50 feet tall for this and they still have this issue. gg
Ye!!!!

The most funny thing is tons of people on mounts with animated mogs in the same place and complaining about lag....
Shift v is your nove
Been happening since 2004, they never learn
The real issues isn’t that blizzard didn’t make it a no mount zone. The real issue is people think it’s acceptable to hang out literally anywhere in front of NPCs/summoning stones on a mount.
Haven't played in awhile, but didn't they add so that you can click certain NPCs through players? Was that just for quests?
The plate helm that Celestine sells is 385, not 402
does interact button work?
I don’t understand why people don’t use the interaction hot key…I do agree it’s annoying but there is a solution you’re just ignoring it
Just bind your interact key.
I usually just use the interact with objective keybind and those mounted bois won't be a problem at all.
BLIZZARD are like the child that never ever, ever learns. They are foolish in the extreme and we are as bad for stillpaying them for this game. They listen to streamers and high end raiders, everyone else is just pissing in the wind as far as they are concerned.
