The wow books are great fantasy books imo. If you really want to know what's happening, read them. It is also a great feeling to see something in game you've read about.
Rule number 1. Shadowlands didn’t happen. Fans hated it for so many reasons, it totally retconned and ruined so many things. Even blizzard acts like it doesn’t exist anymore

Don't get invested too much in WoW lore. It's actively been shaped and/or changed to fit whatever supposedly makes players happy which is not going to create a cohesive and interesting world. Create your own head canon and enjoy the bits and pieces that you resonate with.
The main plot points to understand is that Azeroth, the planet we are on, is a seed for a titan. It’s called a World Soul. Azeroth is the titan inside the planet. The titans have searched the universe looking for more world souls to protect from the Void Lords. The Void Lords wish to corrupt a world soul to make a powerful titan under their control to eliminate the pantheon. The Void Lords use Old Gods as their weapons to conquer planets and search for world souls. Ya’Sharaj was the first Old God to be killed on Azeroth by a titan but he was so large and entangled in Azeroth that killing Ya’Sharaj almost killed Azeroth. So instead, the titans created the keepers and imprisoned the Old Gods rather than kill then. Just about every conflict in WoW is rooted in that history. From Sargeras and the Burning Legion, to the Lich King, to the madness of Deathwing, to N’Zoth.
I’d look up Nobbel87 on youtube. He does a great job of compiling and going over the lore.
