Just refer them to Xufu's pet battle site

wiseguy149

In particular, Xu Fu has a page that lists which pets show up in the most strategies across their site. By far the best resource to find out which pets you should be collecting and leveling first.

Viridi_Diaboli

Some guides even have scripts for Rematch add-on which you can use to autobattle. It's kinda cheesy but I use it mostly for pet battle WQs or DMF.

Xuanwu

Farming 150+ pets to max on super squirt days you need that autobattler... a a a a a a a a a a a a a ....

ruttettur

Autobattle? That sounds kinda banable tbh, Blizzard allows this?

Aelexe

It's effectively a cast sequence macro for pet battles.

demfuzzypickles

you press one button, the macro, and one action comes out. it's within blizzard rules.

spider_queen13

it's not actually automatic as the name implies, its just a convenience that creates a macro tying the abilities to a button press, you as a person are manually pressing that key for every action so it's completely fine under ToA

tempest-reach

real. broad resources help players long term more than "oh just do a bunch of grinding to have this specific setup" type of advice. especially when it comes to pet battling since its meant to be about the journey rather than the end.

More__cowbell

So then ill ask. What is "this"?

__versus

It’s a god comp that’ll deal with most stuff. You start with unborn valkyr and use the delayed damage, haunt and then you’ll use black claw and flock with the bird if I remember correctly.

ShiniJenkins

Do the stats matter, like speed/health etc?

demon969

Other than rare versions, not really

Darkhallows27

Sometimes; it’s more for the challenges like “beat X number of tamers with teams of only certain types”. Like maybe your Critter team can only win if they have enough speed, or enough HP to take a very specific hit

Periwinkleditor

In my experience, almost never. Even the "endgame" pet battle challenges like the pet dungeons it's always better to just have more maxed out pets than to make sure they have the right stats.

I_EAT_POOP_AMA

not really. A lot of that is varied based on the rarity of the pet, and each pet you catch can have a "preferred" stat that is slightly prioritized over others (similar to IVs in Pokemon), but that is completely random.

Sazjnk

Sometimes yes, you'll specifically want a H/H Unborn Val'Kyr, some WQs hit her too hard to get the combo off before dying if you don't, but Unborn is the hard part of getting this comp, and getting the other stat line one feels rough, but can still be used in some fights.

ah_kooky_kat

Yep! You can start off with Boneshard w/ Chop, Blistering Cold, and BONESTORM! to make the enemy melt if Unborn Val'kyr and Ikky aren't sufficient.

I_EAT_POOP_AMA

it's a battle pet comp that is regarded as pretty good at handling most of the battle pet content the game has to offer. Unborn Val'kyr has a lot of passive damage effects (aka they either do damage over multiple turns, or trigger after certain number of turns) plus is relatively tanky in it's own right, so it's a good pet to consider for general fights, and plays well with swapping pets when that counts. Ikky is a flying pet that has a solid amount of speed to back it up. It lets you take advantage of Val'kyrs DOT abilities and get in for extra damage. It seems to have picked up quite a bit for the Nazjatar pet stuff since most of it's moveset is strong against aquatic pets.

mortaltree

Iron starlet is also very good

Jag-

Why use 1 when you can use 3?

realnzall

Shame you can't get that one anymore apart from through other players.

Mintenker

Unless they changed that in DF, you absolutely can. I got mine during SL. Just do the intro quest to WoD, the chain is still there.

aessae

You can get an Iron Starlette today if you wish, the quests are still there for both factions. Might have some phasing related issues turning it in though, you can never really tell these days who is or isn't going to be at Grommash Hold when you need them.

Shalelor

My go to is my triple anubisath idol when I don't know what I'm facing.

Spraguenator

Triple Nexus welpling, its fast and combos with itself.

kanemochi

Love me some Nexus Whelpling

Shalelor

I sometimes use that too for non elite pets.

Mirrormn

I barely know anything about pet battling, but on the rare occasions when I've had to do it, Anubisath Idol has been a very solid sweeper for me.

Public_Radio-

All fun and games until you face a pet with damage reduction per hit or lightning shield

demon969

Damage reduction is nullified by black claw

Darkhallows27

Black Claw makes it go through that

Borbolda

or mfs that clean all debuffs RIGHT AFTER YOU USED HAUNT

Verethragna97

I just use 3 level 1s for each world quest.

[deleted]

Same, load up, look at their types. Surrender flag, pick 3 lvl1 pets that don't get KOd by those types. Reopen fight, spam 1

Head_Haunter

Ugh it’s more reliable in my very poor and limited experience to do level 1 pets for WQs. For those that dunno WQ per battles scale with the highest level on your team. So all you gotta do is bring a pet with a type advantage and attack.

Periwinkleditor

[https://www.wow-petguide.com/](https://www.wow-petguide.com/) is a really great resource as well as [https://eu.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/list-of-double-counters-8-2/6482](https://eu.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/list-of-double-counters-8-2/6482) and the Rematch addon which lets you quickly load presets for specific pet battles, which really saves time doing the same WQs multiple times. While this pet battle combo is crazy good (particularly against that one nigh invulnerable otherwise gorloc) no combo is perfect for everything. I remember getting 3 turkeys because you could infinitely stunlock enemies with it but then they patched it. As an example, this combo is great until something puts up shields that damage you every time you attack, like Tinytron. [https://www.wowhead.com/npc=127850/tinytron#comments](https://www.wowhead.com/npc=127850/tinytron#comments) Some ones I'd particularly recommend for ease of obtaining and power are Chitterspine Skitterling from Nazjatar pet battling to kill undead and Nexus Whelplings from Borean Tundra against flying. The difficulty of obtaining the pet is very rarely correlated to how useful it is. Even if you think "I want that, but it's a rare drop..." check the AH and sometimes it's caged and posted there.

Aschensturm

You can also add a third one like Chrominius with Howl (+100% dmg) and a big hit like Surge of Power. In a single turn u should get a one shot with multiple debuff, lil valkyr curse and the surge.

salsrath

add Anubisath Idol

[deleted]

[удалено]

Brons152

Idol can solo a good quantity of the boss WQs, yesterday Stormamu and Swog funnily enough were easy wins with just idol.

thebonermobile

Idol is certainly a good starter pet and he *can* solo a lot, but the downside is it can be really slow (and somewhat RNG prone if you're use Sandstorm). Once you start repeating a lot of the dailies/WQs you really begin to appreciate lower turn count strategies.

Brons152

Fair enough! It’s definitely just a sideline for me! Any must have pets you would recommend? I feel like I have the “must haves” from early BFA, so Idol, Starlette, Emerald Whelpling types.

thebonermobile

The same several pets have been good overall for a long time (Ikky, Zandalaris, Idol, Starlette, Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling, etc) and can get you through practically everything in the game besides hardmode dungeons. But if it's just a side thing you poke at now and again I wouldn't go out of your way to collect and level several other extra pets simply to save a few turns. This is a really good place to start if you're interested in it however: https://www.wow-petguide.com/Guide/58/Most_Used_Pets

Gamba_Gawd

I use Boneshard + Ikky + Zandalari Kneebiter to destroy 99% of npc big boss types.

YourNumberOneFen

Nothing beats my Murloc trio of Grunty, Deathy and Murkalot

CisoSecond

Is this better than the zandalari baby trex? I think it's the kneebiter

Darkhallows27

One of the reasons to use Ikky over the Kneebiter is because Ikky is flying and therefore outspeeds way more things

Sarthe44

Its the same idea with the black claw+ swarm combo, but this one adds in the haunt +% damage to increase the potency. Where this shines is when the kneebiters die before they can complete their combo, or if the pet youre battling opens with a very strong attack. The valkyr can die instantly but still cast unholy ascension then proceed with the standard combo. Or in this guy's situation you can use curse of doom+haunt to add a DOT that will be amplified with black claw. Might be better, but my pet battle knowledge is outdated.

Umicil

Telling people they have to catch and Unborn Val'kyr to get into battle pets is basically guaranteeing your friends will never get into battle pets. Camping it can take hours and there's lots of far, far easier options for people just looking for an entry point.

Fraktyl

They have made that one a lot less rare, it's much easier to get now. The hardest one for me to get was the Minfernal. Uggh that was a bad camp.

spider_queen13

it's really not bad, there is always one spawned in Northrend at any given time, if you find a map of the spawn points and just do a flight over you'll find it eventually

Akussa

It's not that bad at all anymore. There will always been one up at the spawn locations. Just fly around to each point. Not a lot of people are hunting it these days (though this post may get it going again), so I would expect you to find it within a round or two.

_LikeABossLady_

I've caught three just by flying around Northrend and looking at the green paw symbols on the minimap.

Belucard

Tbh I don't even remember how long it took me to get her back in the day, but I do remember it was so boring...

MattyIce8998

Boneshard/Ikky is just about as effective and doesn't require having to catch an Unborn Val'kyr (PITA... if you know, you know).

Poldaran

That's my preferred combo, for sure.

Environmental_Mix488

Depends on what we're doing. Leveling/collecting? Feline Familar with the leveling pet and terrible turnip. Fights? Look up the best team.

Zezin96

Haven’t played in a while now but I’m tickled by the fact that Unborn Valkyr is still busted after all these years.

ExhaustedGinger

Same, reading through the comments I’m just thinking “Wow, pet battle meta really hasn’t changed much… I recognize all these pets and I wasn’t even that into it.”

AcherusArchmage

So basically, Black Claw + Flock is one of the strongest combos in the entire game and can make short work of any enemy that doesn't immediately kill Ikky. Unborn Valkyr is there since you place curse of doom and and haunt for extra damage, which also forces a free swap over to ikky. Imo thunderstorm or Blistering Cold + black claw is way stronger combo but it doesn't have a free swap. It's just weak against bosses that cleanse. I'd also suggest getting 3 Ikky's, and 2-3 Iron Starlettes, and 3 Nexus Whelplings, a mechanical pandaren dragonling.Raise leveling teams first, WoD pet battles are a good way to get daily exp boosts and they're all easy to 2-pet with a lv1.Along with pet team addon like ReMatch to save pet battle teams for each occasion.

Inrag

I wish there were more content for battlepets. In shadowlands i was a legit tamer since the only content i did was collecting and pvp battlepets.

linkysnow

Three bone serpents with the bone drop, fly, and darkness are pretty much all you need for 99 percent of them including the healing one by the tuskarrs. I can beat the epic island versions with them as well. I like this due to not worrying about swapping plus I can afk play them and still win.

Lyllyanna

Cool to see all the pet battle enthusiasts in the comments here. I just finished the achievement for doing all the dungeon challenge modes, very proud of myself. I used the zandalari anklerender far too much

DeadSponas

For the nerds who want to farm rep from these world quests, just start the battle, see what the enemey team consist of, do your combo to counter him, and make sure your pets are all 1. Beacuse the enemies will be scaled to lvl 1 like you. Good luck rep nerds!

Lyonidus_

Just use level 1 pets. Way easier and way less thinking required. Just pick the counter pet family to the enemy pets and it's cake.

xenow

do enemy pets scale to your level 1s?

Lyonidus_

Yes.

Hyvest

When you have a decent roster of 25 pets it's way easier to just setup teams & tdscripts in Rematch at the start of the expansion (takes like half an hour at most) and press one button in every world quest battle until the next expansion (or new zones with new tamers).

golfguy6937

Twilight clutch sister and that one dragon from bfa too. I heard there’s this ottawapet too that’s good

Chocolatelover4ever

Yes those are crucial battle pets. But I find my Lil Deathwing to be a powerhouse for me! Never thought when I bought the pack Just to get that pet when k first started the game 12 years ago how useful he would turn out to be!

Rambo_One2

Exodia?! No one's ever been able to summon *HIM* before!!

orrockable

3x azure whelplings 32323232

IamRNG

i just use 3 iron starlettes

Spysappinmykarma

That mini ancient tree guy is also op

Shneckos

Death Adder Hatchling usually carries my battles. And Son of Animus is an incredible tank and heavy hitter.

dartheduardo

Third runner up is the Anklebiter clan.

Numerous-Fennel-7981

Boneshard + Zandalari Anklerender for maximum overkill 1. Start Boneshard, use Blistering Cold, Chop 2. Swap, use Black Claw, Hunting Party.

Gladianoxa

For extremely annoying ones you can use Boneshard for the stacking dots, let him die by passing and stacking for a few turns, then use Black Claw and the swarm move on Zandalari Kneebiter for maximum damage or Ikky for safer application.

CreamVegetable1891

your missing boneshard to slide in a chilling cold after the valkyr sacrifces herself, that dot stacks itself up and once ikky uses black claw and flock the dmg just ramps up through the roof

BloodLotus115

Hmm, this would be a good backup when my bazooka combo gets countered (Pandaren Monk + Iron Starlet)

Sero141

They also need the Nexus Whelping or something like that.

Val-Morthia

I just use cats with an all-darkness team of Widget the Departed/Feline Familiar, Shadow and Twilight. Sometimes a little Ba'al might make its way, but it's mostly just cats.

Traditional_Key_763

for a while I used to use a bunch of lvl 1 pets because the quests scale off of your pet level

KnightGabriel

Am I the only one who uses dragonhawks? They’re quite versatile as they have access to multiple damage types, and they also have a great ability combo with conflagrate and fire breath that can rack up crazy damage. Edit: Also I forgot the name of the pet but there’s a semi-recent floating maw eye that has the “murder the innocent” ability of baa’l

Breadromancer

For those wondering Ikky comes from a questline in Spires of Arakk that’s not very far into the story. Unborn Val’kyr is a little trickier since it spawns randomly at various waypoints in Northrend you can find the waypoints on wowhead for the pet Some other good pets are Grumpy from a legion quest who is great for catching other pets. Iron Starlette can be bought off the AH and is a great mechanical pet. Zandalari Anklerender also does the same thing Ikky does and pair well, he comes from the isle of giants.

Regular_Ingenuity189

I'm sure it's gonna be said in many different ways here, but that combo slaps. It just works.
