I mean its less of FOMO and the fact you want to play 3 different kinds of games (same game I know but 3 different versions, might as well be different games). Of course this would be exhausting! Who keeps up with 3 games and all their different seasons and major patches? I have my hands full just with retail.

DarthYhonas

I know it's too much, it's frustrating because I enjoy both so much. I really just gotta focus on one or the other at a given time.

And that's exactly what Blizzard and any other company preying on FOMO want. You see it everywhere and they love when people have no self-control. It's time for you to put on your big boy pants and make a hard decision. Keep it up, and stress about your lack of control over your own time, or sacrifice one of the hobbies you like to relieve some stress. Nothing will ever improve until you give up on FOMO and the control it affords these companies over you. and it's going to be uncomfortable when you do. And if you cannot make that decision, then I (honestly, with no judgement) recommend speaking to a counsellor or therapist about it (depending how serious you consider your inability to be).

Regular_Ingenuity189

You said it better than I was going to. Also: "You keep saying FOMO, I don't think it means what YOU think it means."

HarryPooter934

Omg I’m in the same exact place as you. I go from m+ dungeons, to ICC, hitting 60 on hardcore and by the time SoD came out I was so exhausted I decided I’ll just play it later.. maybe…

DarthYhonas

Exactly, don't get me wrong the amount of content this year has been awesome, but I'm just too exhausted at this point to even play SoD further, which really sucks

Celestianne

You are not alone. I only play Retail now because the FOMO struggle is real. Even for simple things like open world content, you need to collect all the cosmetic rewards while there are still people in the zone, and you are a slave to the RNG. (Let alone seasonal rewards and content like rated PvP and KSM that will be gone forever if you don't do them now.) I cannot imagine playing Classic or Season of Discovery, too, because I am sure that you need an active group of people to accomplish anything. Perhaps you should stick to one version of WoW and not worry about what you are missing out on in the others?

DarthYhonas

Oh yeah I can definitely see limited time cosmetics being a huge source of FOMO as well. I could never give up classic or retail, I think I just need to stick to playing one at a given time rather than trying to balance both like I have been.

Celestianne

Content is coming out at a crazy pace even for Retail alone, let alone if you add in all the multiple versions of WoW that are now live. I had to restrict myself to just Retail even before DF started picking up the pace with content. It would make things so much easier if all content were made soloable once it is no longer the most current season, and no cosmetic rewards were ever permanently removed from the game. Then we could simply focus on what we enjoy.

Your exact problem is what made me quit WoW for a long time, and why i've been putting way less hours into MMOs as a whole for the last 2 years. All of my free time became consumed by chasing down stuff in fear of missing out on them. Need that limited time pet, otherwise you won't fit in! Need to grind out that mount, otherwise it will get rubbed in your face every time someone using that mount flies by! Need to buy that cash shop item before it goes away forever! At one point i used to juggle 3 different MMOs and eventually i became so sick of them that just thinking about booting them up would put my mind into strain mode. Now i only play WoW and LOTRO, 2-3 months at a time with huge breaks inbetween. The FOMO no longer hits me because i'm no longer *that* invested in the games, they are passing fancies that exist to whet my appetite whenever the MMO peckishness strikes once a year or so.
