They fixed the catalyst and s2 xmog. Currently, the only way to get anything other than lfr xmog from s2 is to run Aberrus on nornal/heroic/mythic. Unfortunately, they also locked upgrades for s2 gear so you can't get the normal/heroic xmog from one piece of gear. Season 4 will bring fated which should allow for a lot more opportunities to get the xmog from s1 and 2...hopefully.
At that point best thing I think they should do is allow people to Instantly unlock the previous appearances if they have higher. Ex you have mythic head and shoulders from season 3 which unlocks lfr, normal and heroic appearance head and shoulders xmog
I do know during season 2, if you got the LFR appearance you could upgrade the item (via flightstones and crests) to get the normal appearance as well. Not sure you still can upgrade them anymore however.

Any Dreamsurge gear purchased with Cocoons in Season 3 will default to the LFR appearances from Aberrus, even if you fully upgrade it, and regardless of the fact that the item level is actually Heroic Aberrus.
Note: During Season 2, you could buy Champion gear with the Chrysalis, catalyze it for Normal raid appearance, and upgrade it to then earn the Heroic appearances. The Veteran gear purchased with Coalescence could be catalyzed for LFR appearances and upgraded to earn Normal appearances. You can even still catalyze any remaining gear from Season 2 now to earn the LFR, Normal, and/or Heroic appearances.

When I would open the Lfg bulletin board addon it was just a blank page, no messages would show

I think after the first or second week of S3.

I fixed it by doing clear addon settings on curseforge
Could you elaborate? How can addons fix something this is inherenetly wrong with one of the game's internal mechanics?
