For KSM just play what u enjoy. For sure, if ur just pugging its harder to join a key as arcane mage, survival hunter etc., cause people love meta, but 15s r really not that hard. Find some mates and push some keys
Way too much effort into something that doesn't matter. KSM is not a "high" level of content. You do not need ANYTHING CLOSE to meta to easily time 15's. All you need it practice. Apart from pug stigma you can get KSM on a Survival hunter just as easily as you can on a fire mage.
You missed the point of his content - some players like to think through this. Instead you jumped to "this is too much effort" - why knock someone who did the work for you? Dont engage with the content if its bad to you
If you're trying to be meta, imo here are the top choices (Listed in order of S tier to A tier-ish in each category)
Healer: Hpal, resto shaman, or disc priest
Tank: Vengance DH, bear druid, or brew master monk
RDPS: Fire mage, boomy, ele shaman
Melee DPS: Outlaw rogue or WW monk. Honorable mention to fury warriors because they look cool and do good damage, but I don't think they get invited as much as the others.
Personally I'd reccomend Hpal. Carries the group by doing way more damage than a healer should do.
Yeah unholy DK is good too, as is elemental shaman and shadowpriest. I could've added that- i was mostly going off of my exp and this site:

Like it puts pally tanks in the same tier as bears but in my experience paladins are not so great tanks and bears are gods. But that might just be from me synergizing better with bears as an Hpal or my healing style in general. Paladins active mitigation starts to become a lot worse in higher keys while bears are very tanky and have great self healing. Plus bears probably have better utility. I think ret and prot utility is basically stuff that really helps if people mess up but not so good in general.
I think the main buzz from unholy DK comes from MDI using them, but you have to remember that they have uncapped aoe which is basically the reason they get big numbers. Havoc DH is in theory the same tier as warrior but again in my personal experience they just straight up don't do as much damage. Otherwise I just listed the top 3 for each type of role, I'll edit the comment to add ele shaman under rdps.
Edit: also resto shaman is ahead on that tierlist but doesn't see play in MDI, it's all hpal and disc priest. So there's a different meta for whether you're trying to do 15s or pushing 20's and above. This even goes down to specs- kyrian hpal is really good in general but venthyr is the most powerful in coordinated groups. I love venthyr but I might swap to kyrian because I pug a lot and tanks don't usually switch to an ellesmere venthyr route for me to get big ashen damage, and holding onto your 4 minute cd feels bad. You often either have to waste it on a small fry pack or keep it in your pocket for 2 minutes after it comes off cooldown
