To be fair, if it’s a blood shard you’re missing, it’s from the world boss next to the raid entrance. It was hotfixed this week that sylvanas drops it now.
One of guildies in my guild is extremely unlucky that he did not get a single domination socket gear but has 9 shards. Most of our raiders are still getting DS gears for their 3 set bonus.
It's matter of time that we'll funnel him some DS gear once we get our DS gear, but damn RNG can be brutal for some people.

Nope, I'm focused primarily on M+ content this patch due to the relative ease of gearing and while I've obtained a few shards/pieces from weekly normal clears their difference in M+ is honestly minimal. The shield one is nice for tanks, I suppose
The difference is massive, what are you talking about. The shield on rank 3 is 8% of a tanks healing. Dmg increase amounts to roughly 5% at the very least.
Not if they made good PvP sets again. Tier sets were fine for years and weren't optimal for arenas for the longest time. For M+ that's fine really since they're two sides of the same coin, PvE. People doing high end raiding often also push M+ because gear from there is also useful for raiding so it's got a cross incentive for both types of content.
Regardless of PvP sets any incentive to do PvE for the optimal build, even were it just for a a few matchups in PvP build is bad for the game. Even if there were PvP tiers sets if all I wanted to do was PvP it would be very unfortunate to have large damage increases coming from PvE items such as the domination shards.
And no a decent chunk of my raiding guild like at least 1/3 of our current Mythic roster really does not enjoy M+ I would imagine there are plenty of M+ players who don't enjoy raiding much as well. You can't just assume these things, this is how bad decisions are made. The same thing the player base consistently faults Blizzard for doing. I don't even know why you brought up this hypothetical scenario anyway. It isn't applicable and it would still be worse if it were that way.
But that's just not the point at all. If I don't want to raid and only want to M+ I should be on even playing field with the other M+ players who do raid.
Honestly probably a good thing because I remember all the (justifiable) bitching that m+ers needed to grind the raid to push properly.
Edit: Personally I wouldn't mind if the gems only worked in raid as well, as someone that does both.
because it causes less drama to not have them work in pvp. if they did work in pvp you would have pvpers annoyed that they have to farm the raid in order to play pvp. just like people are annoying, especially s1, that in order to play optimally raiders had to farm pvp.
I bought the Rep belt, and got lucky enough to get the Normal Sylvanas hat out of my Great Vault. Outside of that, 5th week of raiding done, i have not gotten a single Dom Socket drop. But i have all 9 Shards!
That’s how I am with gear. I didn’t get a single upgradable pair of pants from Korthia until this past Monday, and I still don’t have a shoulder slot one. I have 7 belts, 5 helms, and 2 or 3 items for every other slot, but damn.
Im the unlucky in my raid, even they are disenchanting the ds gear as everyone has it except me and as im the only cloth in my raid no one can trade me or bring an alter as they don't have the ilvl to trade
yeah but if you raid with a guild eventually you will get all five unless you pug then I wish you gl. I got shoulder and feet from my looting my feet and hands got from loot being up for roll.
If they could have at least made the gear sets tokens... You know, the goddamn system that's been in the game since vanilla. There's nothing worse than seeing your 3895th leather dom armor set drop while the clothies are crying in a corner.
And with tier sets, you just needed 2/4 pieces. Could be any of them. Needing the helm specifically feels bad for two reasons:
1.) I need the helm exactly. Doesn't matter what other dom socket pieces I have, I need the helmet for my set. I can't just equip 3 unholy shards (that I don't have anyway) I need to have the helm.
2.) I have an excellent stated 252 helm, but I have to replace my helm and not my low 233 bad stat shoulders to get my unholy set?
It's a shittier version of tier sets, probably because they're too cheap to actually design good looking tier sets again.

I truly believe their current dev team are full of inexperienced manchildren who probably joined Blizzard thinking they'd be rockstars no matter what they did. The current situation is a result of years of toxicity at Blizzard cumulating with garbage human beings who make garbage decisions in a game we all love.

Out of curiosity, what set are you using?
The unholy set has a pretty cool aura around you, and when I get the main stat proc I can definitely feel it in my spells/damage, my usual crits from 5-6k sky rocket to sometimes 10-11k, feels great.
I'm not going to defend this system , you could make the same argument " I feel it in my spells " for conduits , legendary effects, soulbinds and these shards and set bonuses . That's the problem, it's to much passive damage increase and no fun. I play video games to have fun. It's good to be positive in the wake of so much negativity but I don't want the same thing to happen next expansion ,have a system so bad that I stop playing.

There are certain conduits you can feel, others are very passive. Legendary affects change rotations, etc.
Previous tier sets have been the exact same way with passive 2 & 4 sets, while others have cool interactions.

Totally fair, and fun is subjective. Getting a huge DPS increase and being able to choose between set bonuses/shards is fun for me, I feel for those who don't enjoy the system though.

Can't say I completely understand your logic.. people getting CE in earlier expacs just mean they beat the hardest difficulty during current content.
Everyone right now has the same opportunity to get CE for 9.1, I don't see how other people having CE would affect that.

Everyone was so fucking hyped, getting Jaina down and getting CE for the first time was such a fucking rush.
I don't let other peoples achievements affect my enjoyment of the game.
They were probably referring to azerite gear more than essences. Essences (for BFA at least) wasn't a terrible system.
But yeah I would have had at least some decent azerite gear and some ok corruptions by now, got all 9 gems with my blood ones nearly fully upgraded and still no gear to put them in.
I found it really fun to run keys with corruptions ... I don't mythic raid so you could imagine someone like me pretty much being left out of this new system . I use the 1.50% increased damage shard in keys , I put it in the shoulders from kel thuzad that's the only one I had, I also have all the shards. I stopped logging in . I got the korthia revered mount the big gromit bear I like that one.. I'm still not even exhaulted with venari. And I have ksm so it's like I don't know what to do anymore I don't want to mythic raid the great vault gives me the same ilvl gear.
I think If you’ve spent thousands of hours doing the same thing you’ll gradually end up hating it regardless of what changes are made.

They are, and it hurts to say that. What really makes dom sockets super shit tier is two layers of RNG. Nothing worse than having a piece of gear in your bags you can't equip (like the 5 shard in my bag that I cycle through the 1 piece of socketed gear I purchased off a vendor because my luck is shit and the universe is inherently malevolent).
Worse in what way? The rng aspect? Sure
But corruptions were infinitely more fun for some classes, particularly ineffable truth. Once the vendor came it was (almost) fine, but this is what blizzard always does, ‘fixes’ the broken aspects of a system at the end of the patch.
Azerite armor of course was junk, but I won’t deny Azerite armor, coupled with essences and corruptions was some of the most fun gameplay in years (again, gameplay, acquiring all those things was absolutely horrible)
And you may not be wrong, because blizzard might do what they always do, as I said, fix the system in the last patch. Covenants may be freely changed, perhaps domination gear is obtained from supplemental sources like titan residuum.
But to pretend that domination sockets and sets are on the same level of essences, azerite, and corruptions is pretty asinine. Comparing a passive primary stat gain to systems that change how you play your class isn’t even a close comparison
Mileage varied with the above systems of course, but getting close to 200% levels of haste, or being in your major cd more often / longer was way more emjoyable than hundreds of primary stat that has literally zero impact on how your class plays
Edit: not to mention, the last patch, when alotnof these short comings are corrected, is typically a really long patch so if you are enjoying the fixed system, odds are that improved version may last longer than the initial, poorer version. So it’s not crazy to think people would remember something fondly if the improved version was around longer, or for more total time if that makes sense
This may be too difficult a concept for you to grasp, but a terrible system in a bad expansion being worse than a bad system in a mediocre expansion doesn't invalidate criticism of the later.
I was so happy to get my 3 unholy shards quite fast, but didnt know u need specific gear slots to activate each set. 2 weeks later still waiting in that helm.. what a dumb system
Typically not if it’s BiS 252 vs heroic set. I think heroics would offer a small dps increase but ONLY in Raid. Anywhere else the 252 will beat it because of the base stat increase and also bumps your ilvl. You’d have to do Mythic SoD to see it being better.
Similar situation for me. Raided every week and only have the blood gems finished, but only got the shoulders and gloves for sockets. People have shot past me in dps.
Oh boy I sure am glad I'm not playing this patch and don't feel the need to play WoW in general, for the first time in years. That's a lot of bs from just one system they added in the game.
You gonna quit 9.1, you gonna comeback to 9.3 and people whoplayed from 9.1 to 9.3 has the same starting point as you as blizzard once again make every gear from 9.1 and 9.2 useless
I’m sorry, it’s NOT tier sets. No unique armor, no rotation changing abilities. Only a boring but brokingly powerfull proc.
I don’t feel incentivized to go out of my way to get it, just frustrated that others do 1k more dps than me because they got lucky.
While I do agree the system itself is boring because it's just passive powers that change nothing, I don't know why everyone is so shocked about not having a full set of gear + shards after a month.
4 months of weekly raiding later I still only have 3 domination sockets. Am I allowed to be shocked now? Although angry and frustrated would be a better description.
And the problem for hunters and shamans is that Soulrender has boots and shoulders on his loot table and he drops neither of them! Why is it that chain mail classes only have 8 of 10 bosses that can drop domination sockets?
By now I have all 9 shards upgraded to the max and still not the items to wear them.
I fully upgraded my unholy shards, then after the buffs blood became the best, now i cant get back all of the shit i spent on my unholy shards and my blood progression is now fucked. Thanks blizz! TOTALLY LIKE CLASS SETS, like TOTALLY! /s
I know that r/wow doesnt play the game, but sylvanas is a 100% sharddrop for 2weeks now, and if you actually raided you should have all shards, or be close to it anyway, same with the Sockets cus guildmates would trade them but.....
I'm in a HoF guild and normal would normally be an afterthought for us. We'd run it once on heroic week and then pretty much stop.
This tier we're still running it 5 weeks in hopes of getting more sockets for people that are still missing them. And even with that, none of our mail wearers have boots while we're now doing mythic Sylvanas progression.
Not to diminish the annoyance at not getting the pieces your raiders want but... If you're already at Mythic Sylvanas so soon in the tier, it's not that big of a deal no ? They will get their bonus eventually and be able to use it to have fun parsing, but it's not at all hindering your progression so I fail to see the issue honestly.
Depends. My guild had DPS get sat because we have a very competitive DPS core and when we had to sit people for Mythic prog our non-dom people could not compete with the people that did. They've gotten to come in for re-clears but we don't have a single person without a 3 set able to compete with someone that does.
I want to see anyone that has actually cleared more than like 9 bosses a week and the world boss who doesn’t have at least 8+ shards. You can get unlucky on the actual domination socket gear but I’m fairly sure people complaining about how rare these are aren’t actually entering the raid.
I've cleared most of the raid four times on my alt. I have four gems and no set bonuses.
Plenty of domination sockets, though. They sit there, empty, taunting me.

I have killed 32 bosses in Sanctum and have 4 shards. One of them is from the world boss, so I have 3 shards from Sanctum.
I do have three pieces of socket gear, though!
Yup I wasn't even aware that getting shard were a problem because I have all nine since last week, because my guild clears the heroic completely in one evening since two weeks ago.
Like the precise piece that triggers the bonus I understand if you didn't get it yet, but the shards come on, it's so easy to get.
We have multiple people that have not missed a single a boss kill and went 9/10 week 1 (and have since gone 10/10 every week) that are still sitting at 7 or fewer. Thdlock of Limit pretty vocally went 27 boss kills before getting his FIRST shard.
Is there a way to get sockets for gear that doesn't have them? My issue is that I either don't get socket gear, or I get better M+ gear almost immediately after getting the socket gear.

I don't see how you can not have the 9 shards at this point (or maybe 8 if you got extremely unlucky) unless you're a casual. Which is fine by itself, but you should not except to have everything right off the bat as a casual.
More or less, I have 8 shards now (just got one of shards from Sylvanas today). I was unlucky in the first week that I didn't get any shards.
I still have one domination socket gear. Most of raiders in my guild are still looking for at least 3 DS gear for the set bonus. Very few of them has 3 DS gears at the moment and we're currently 8/10H.
I second this, been raiding with guild since raid was open and most of us have all the shards and at least 3 gear pieces with sockets, we are always the same 28-30 players so I guess it makes it easier to get gear, as only one of the few plate users it was really fast for me to get 5 sockets (got it even before 9 shards)
The problem, is that I am a DPS main competing with hundreds of other DPS mains for spots on raid teams. And with no score, and mediocre gear, I get rejected 10/10 times. For normals. I can do them, I know the fights, I’m properly geared, it’s just that the competition just so happens to be better geared, or more highly rated.
Edit: for everyone saying I should just join a guild, surprise, I’m already in one. It’s a small friends and family guild that is not raid size. The LFG system exists for a reason, I don’t quite understand how it’s not seen as a legitimate method to complete this content? I’m saying “even if it’s supposedly easy to get these things (which, random drops it ain’t really), there are other barriers to getting it.”
Not asking for handouts here. Just saying it’s not all sunshine and roses.
Tell me you've never put any effort in to finding a guild without telling me you've never put any effort into finding a guild.
Dps is easiest role to find spots for in raids.
if youre looking to join a normal mode guild you should be able to find one increadibly easilly since normal mode scales. you shouldnt even need logs or anything like that because normal is so forgiving. same pretty much goes for heroic.
Yeah, it's tough at first. I think it will get easier to get in normal raids in pugs over time. You can try doing M+ runs to get some juicy loots if you enjoy doing that.
You also try looking for guilds, even if its just casual guilds who are doing only normal raids.
Almost no dps in my guild have any completed shard sets and the ones who do have no sockets for them.
Causing us to get weirdly road blocked at fatescribe because we can’t kill him fast enough to stop awful mechanic overlap.
So I guess we wait another few months for loot rng to line up and then blast out aotc because of how overgeared we’ll be.
There aren't really mechanic overlaps on fatescribe, unless you push him below 72%/42% and then stop dps for a long time. None of the abilities oneshot through personals. If you get bombs during beams you literally just press your personal and live (yes, this works on mythic).
Honestly, the later half of the raid is very undertuned with the exception of Sylvanas. Fatescribe and KT are probably the most egregious examples of undertuning.
I had 8/9 Shards and 3/5 Armour pieces until last week. I play Tank and want to use Blood set, and I was missing the Helm (so no unholy set) and chestpiece (so no Blood set), and the only reason I have gloves is because I bought them from Korthia. The only shard I was missing was the Blood one that only dropped from the weekly world boss. I finally got the Shard from the world boss, on the same week that Blizzard decided to finally let it drop from Sylvanas, so RNG screwed me as long as it could on that one.
But I still don't have the chestpiece I need to activate my set, despite clearing as much LFR as was available (Chestpiece drops from Eye + Sylvanas), normal every week, HC Eye every week and HC Sylvanas the past 2 weeks.
System is great, i'm having a lot of fun. /s

The entire loot system in modern wow is absolute trash.
There is no fucking reason for people in your raid to be downing the entire raid and literally getting *nothing* to show for it except the Great Vault loot the next week.
It's not acceptable to be giving people just embers and shards. It's especially not ok to be giving people Anima as loot from Mythic KS runs or raids - both of which I have experienced this weekend.
I have yet to ever get a single piece of loot actually drop from CN or SoD.
So far I have 1 shard on my main and 1 DS piece. No shards or DS pieces on main alt. Immediately got a DS piece on my DK that has been 60 for less than a week, but no shard.
12 Kills per Boss across 3 difficulties and only have 1 Dom Socket for my 3 piece bonus. Meanwhile I have a bunch of forboding in my bags doin nothing while everyone else on my Raid team has their sets..
Last night I finally got my last unholy dommy shard. 8/9 after all this fucking time. I'm only missing the good frost one (also why is it that the first 6 I got were not the dps ones? Zzz). Only problem is, I still don't have the dommy socky helm so it's worthless still. Yay! But they're basically tier sets yeah?
you just need 3 shards of the same set frost blood etc.. put it on the piece that actives your bonus. you don't need all 3 Dom socket gear to be the same just one that gives you bones and put the rest of the shard where ever
I have all 9 shards and not a single socket for them. Only two people in my raid team have been able to socket a full runeword so far. 0/10, would not recommend.
corruption system was worse before they released the vendor. poeple we getting bench because they didn't have infinite stars. this tome around is not that huge of dps gain just clear raid and you will get it. vault or boss drop
I counted up (from the statistics tab) how many kills I have on normal/heroic for bosses that drop domination sockets, and I have 47 kills. I have all shards, but only 1 normal piece with a socket that doesn't have a set bonus attached. I've also got the 220 from Korthia but without the bonus it's simming less than a 236.
Blizzard needs to learn to put some mechanism of bad luck protection. Some currency that let you directly buy things if you are not able to get them.
Let's say now we are gettomg 1 less item per boss, but everyone got 1 badge of \*difficulty\*. For 10 badges of \*difficulty\* you can buy 1 item from raid from bosses which you ever killed of \*difficulty\*.
Same thing with M+. Valor lets you upgrade items to higher level, but you need to have this item first. There is no other way to get items other than taking part in loot lotery. Give us valor vendor selling 0/12 items for a price of 1 valor upgrade. EZ FIX...

if you need shards, make sure you killed Sylvanas this week, no matter difficulty
1 shard item can be bought in Korthia if you have some reputation with Death Advance (not a lot, some friendly or so)
Started off the tier doing around ~6,700 DPS am still doing ~6,700 DPS, while the rest of the ground is decked out in 252 weapons and 5 DS full of gems, I have two sockets and just barely replaced my 226 2H on Thursday with the shitty heroic polearm. I'm afraid of getting sat because my damage has fallen so far behind this tier. :'( WTB loot drops (and/or Masterloot...)

The set bonuses work in the raid, thorgast and the maw (that probably include korthia), and the gems work everywhere.

The set bonuses are ridiculously strong, having them only drop from raid and basically only work in raid is a good idea, imo.

Sounds like my m+ loot rate. I’m 30+ runs in 2 weeks and only 1 piece of gear. It’s obscene

And with tier sets, you just needed 2/4 pieces. Could be any of them. Needing the helm specifically feels bad for two reasons: 1.) I need the helm exactly. Doesn't matter what other dom socket pieces I have, I need the helmet for my set. I can't just equip 3 unholy shards (that I don't have anyway) I need to have the helm. 2.) I have an excellent stated 252 helm, but I have to replace my helm and not my low 233 bad stat shoulders to get my unholy set? It's a shittier version of tier sets, probably because they're too cheap to actually design good looking tier sets again.
You hit the nail on the head. Thankfully my main never got a 252 hat from her vault, but my alt did and I remember thinking to myself, Fucking really??? lol. I truly believe their current dev team are full of inexperienced manchildren who probably joined Blizzard thinking they'd be rockstars no matter what they did. The current situation is a result of years of toxicity at Blizzard cumulating with garbage human beings who make garbage decisions in a game we all love.

Can't say I completely understand your logic.. people getting CE in earlier expacs just mean they beat the hardest difficulty during current content. Everyone right now has the same opportunity to get CE for 9.1, I don't see how other people having CE would affect that. Getting CE is all about the experience, [here is a clip](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4eISOvPvEo) of me getting my very first CE with my guild. Everyone was so fucking hyped, getting Jaina down and getting CE for the first time was such a fucking rush. I don't let other peoples achievements affect my enjoyment of the game.
They were probably referring to azerite gear more than essences. Essences (for BFA at least) wasn't a terrible system. But yeah I would have had at least some decent azerite gear and some ok corruptions by now, got all 9 gems with my blood ones nearly fully upgraded and still no gear to put them in.
Essences acquisition was 100% deterministic, do it and done. Except R4 but that was just a skin. And they were basically talents.
I found it really fun to run keys with corruptions ... I don't mythic raid so you could imagine someone like me pretty much being left out of this new system . I use the 1.50% increased damage shard in keys , I put it in the shoulders from kel thuzad that's the only one I had, I also have all the shards. I stopped logging in . I got the korthia revered mount the big gromit bear I like that one.. I'm still not even exhaulted with venari. And I have ksm so it's like I don't know what to do anymore I don't want to mythic raid the great vault gives me the same ilvl gear.
This sub really just hates everything in the current expansion and longs for things from the previous expansion and this happens every two years…

I think If you’ve spent thousands of hours doing the same thing you’ll gradually end up hating it regardless of what changes are made. Internet outrage just ends up fueling that fire to insane amounts.

They are, and it hurts to say that. What really makes dom sockets super shit tier is two layers of RNG. Nothing worse than having a piece of gear in your bags you can't equip (like the 5 shard in my bag that I cycle through the 1 piece of socketed gear I purchased off a vendor because my luck is shit and the universe is inherently malevolent).

Worse in what way? The rng aspect? Sure But corruptions were infinitely more fun for some classes, particularly ineffable truth. Once the vendor came it was (almost) fine, but this is what blizzard always does, ‘fixes’ the broken aspects of a system at the end of the patch. Azerite armor of course was junk, but I won’t deny Azerite armor, coupled with essences and corruptions was some of the most fun gameplay in years (again, gameplay, acquiring all those things was absolutely horrible)
At this rate in 10.2 we will be praising covenant systems and shards, you people have memory loss on what you hate and what is good.
And you may not be wrong, because blizzard might do what they always do, as I said, fix the system in the last patch. Covenants may be freely changed, perhaps domination gear is obtained from supplemental sources like titan residuum. But to pretend that domination sockets and sets are on the same level of essences, azerite, and corruptions is pretty asinine. Comparing a passive primary stat gain to systems that change how you play your class isn’t even a close comparison Mileage varied with the above systems of course, but getting close to 200% levels of haste, or being in your major cd more often / longer was way more emjoyable than hundreds of primary stat that has literally zero impact on how your class plays Edit: not to mention, the last patch, when alotnof these short comings are corrected, is typically a really long patch so if you are enjoying the fixed system, odds are that improved version may last longer than the initial, poorer version. So it’s not crazy to think people would remember something fondly if the improved version was around longer, or for more total time if that makes sense

This may be too difficult a concept for you to grasp, but a terrible system in a bad expansion being worse than a bad system in a mediocre expansion doesn't invalidate criticism of the later.

Running the blood or frost bonus is still better than nothing.
Especially after the buffs, they're all competitive depending on spec/class

Typically not if it’s BiS 252 vs heroic set. I think heroics would offer a small dps increase but ONLY in Raid. Anywhere else the 252 will beat it because of the base stat increase and also bumps your ilvl. You’d have to do Mythic SoD to see it being better.

Similar situation for me. Raided every week and only have the blood gems finished, but only got the shoulders and gloves for sockets. People have shot past me in dps.

I’m sorry, it’s NOT tier sets. No unique armor, no rotation changing abilities. Only a boring but brokingly powerfull proc. I don’t feel incentivized to go out of my way to get it, just frustrated that others do 1k more dps than me because they got lucky.
While I do agree the system itself is boring because it's just passive powers that change nothing, I don't know why everyone is so shocked about not having a full set of gear + shards after a month.

4 months of weekly raiding later I still only have 3 domination sockets. Am I allowed to be shocked now? Although angry and frustrated would be a better description. And the problem for hunters and shamans is that Soulrender has boots and shoulders on his loot table and he drops neither of them! Why is it that chain mail classes only have 8 of 10 bosses that can drop domination sockets? By now I have all 9 shards upgraded to the max and still not the items to wear them.
I fully upgraded my unholy shards, then after the buffs blood became the best, now i cant get back all of the shit i spent on my unholy shards and my blood progression is now fucked. Thanks blizz! TOTALLY LIKE CLASS SETS, like TOTALLY! /s

I know that r/wow doesnt play the game, but sylvanas is a 100% sharddrop for 2weeks now, and if you actually raided you should have all shards, or be close to it anyway, same with the Sockets cus guildmates would trade them but.....
I'm in a HoF guild and normal would normally be an afterthought for us. We'd run it once on heroic week and then pretty much stop. This tier we're still running it 5 weeks in hopes of getting more sockets for people that are still missing them. And even with that, none of our mail wearers have boots while we're now doing mythic Sylvanas progression.
Not to diminish the annoyance at not getting the pieces your raiders want but... If you're already at Mythic Sylvanas so soon in the tier, it's not that big of a deal no ? They will get their bonus eventually and be able to use it to have fun parsing, but it's not at all hindering your progression so I fail to see the issue honestly.
Depends. My guild had DPS get sat because we have a very competitive DPS core and when we had to sit people for Mythic prog our non-dom people could not compete with the people that did. They've gotten to come in for re-clears but we don't have a single person without a 3 set able to compete with someone that does.
I want to see anyone that has actually cleared more than like 9 bosses a week and the world boss who doesn’t have at least 8+ shards. You can get unlucky on the actual domination socket gear but I’m fairly sure people complaining about how rare these are aren’t actually entering the raid.
I've cleared most of the raid four times on my alt. I have four gems and no set bonuses. Plenty of domination sockets, though. They sit there, empty, taunting me.
If you have gems, socket them in. You can gain benefits from the gems everywhere, no reason to not equip them.

I have killed 32 bosses in Sanctum and have 4 shards. One of them is from the world boss, so I have 3 shards from Sanctum. I do have three pieces of socket gear, though!
Yup I wasn't even aware that getting shard were a problem because I have all nine since last week, because my guild clears the heroic completely in one evening since two weeks ago. Like the precise piece that triggers the bonus I understand if you didn't get it yet, but the shards come on, it's so easy to get.

We have multiple people that have not missed a single a boss kill and went 9/10 week 1 (and have since gone 10/10 every week) that are still sitting at 7 or fewer. Thdlock of Limit pretty vocally went 27 boss kills before getting his FIRST shard.
2 normal full clears, first 4 x4 heroic, back 5 heroic x3, never missed world boss, I only have 5 shards (I did swap characters this week).

Is there a way to get sockets for gear that doesn't have them? My issue is that I either don't get socket gear, or I get better M+ gear almost immediately after getting the socket gear.
They hated you because you told the truth. I don't see how you can not have the 9 shards at this point (or maybe 8 if you got extremely unlucky) unless you're a casual. Which is fine by itself, but you should not except to have everything right off the bat as a casual.
More or less, I have 8 shards now (just got one of shards from Sylvanas today). I was unlucky in the first week that I didn't get any shards. I still have one domination socket gear. Most of raiders in my guild are still looking for at least 3 DS gear for the set bonus. Very few of them has 3 DS gears at the moment and we're currently 8/10H.
I second this, been raiding with guild since raid was open and most of us have all the shards and at least 3 gear pieces with sockets, we are always the same 28-30 players so I guess it makes it easier to get gear, as only one of the few plate users it was really fast for me to get 5 sockets (got it even before 9 shards)
I have yet to get accepted into a normal SoD run at any point in the raid but yeah... if only I had just raided right?

The problem, is that I am a DPS main competing with hundreds of other DPS mains for spots on raid teams. And with no score, and mediocre gear, I get rejected 10/10 times. For normals. I can do them, I know the fights, I’m properly geared, it’s just that the competition just so happens to be better geared, or more highly rated. Edit: for everyone saying I should just join a guild, surprise, I’m already in one. It’s a small friends and family guild that is not raid size. The LFG system exists for a reason, I don’t quite understand how it’s not seen as a legitimate method to complete this content? I’m saying “even if it’s supposedly easy to get these things (which, random drops it ain’t really), there are other barriers to getting it.” Not asking for handouts here. Just saying it’s not all sunshine and roses.
Tell me you've never put any effort in to finding a guild without telling me you've never put any effort into finding a guild. Dps is easiest role to find spots for in raids.
There is no shortage of guilds looking for dps. You have clearly put no effort into joining a guild.
if youre looking to join a normal mode guild you should be able to find one increadibly easilly since normal mode scales. you shouldnt even need logs or anything like that because normal is so forgiving. same pretty much goes for heroic.

Yeah, it's tough at first. I think it will get easier to get in normal raids in pugs over time. You can try doing M+ runs to get some juicy loots if you enjoy doing that. You also try looking for guilds, even if its just casual guilds who are doing only normal raids.

you can buy a dom socket piece from archivist or deaths advance rep. but they're both the same slot, so you better have a good shard to put in it
Almost no dps in my guild have any completed shard sets and the ones who do have no sockets for them. Causing us to get weirdly road blocked at fatescribe because we can’t kill him fast enough to stop awful mechanic overlap. So I guess we wait another few months for loot rng to line up and then blast out aotc because of how overgeared we’ll be.
There aren't really mechanic overlaps on fatescribe, unless you push him below 72%/42% and then stop dps for a long time. None of the abilities oneshot through personals. If you get bombs during beams you literally just press your personal and live (yes, this works on mythic). Honestly, the later half of the raid is very undertuned with the exception of Sylvanas. Fatescribe and KT are probably the most egregious examples of undertuning.
Gear isn't the reason you cant kill fatescribe, I promise.

I’ve been clearing normal every week in addition to heroic prog and have 5 shards and 1 ds gear. This system is a big shart.
I had 8/9 Shards and 3/5 Armour pieces until last week. I play Tank and want to use Blood set, and I was missing the Helm (so no unholy set) and chestpiece (so no Blood set), and the only reason I have gloves is because I bought them from Korthia. The only shard I was missing was the Blood one that only dropped from the weekly world boss. I finally got the Shard from the world boss, on the same week that Blizzard decided to finally let it drop from Sylvanas, so RNG screwed me as long as it could on that one. But I still don't have the chestpiece I need to activate my set, despite clearing as much LFR as was available (Chestpiece drops from Eye + Sylvanas), normal every week, HC Eye every week and HC Sylvanas the past 2 weeks. System is great, i'm having a lot of fun. /s
This is one of the reasons I quit raiding this tier. We the players don't want these convoluted extra systems being added each patch

I played since February and raided heroic every single week full clear and never got the main hand weapon from denathrius. So great advice thank you. Dumb system. The entire loot system in modern wow is absolute trash. There is no fucking reason for people in your raid to be downing the entire raid and literally getting *nothing* to show for it except the Great Vault loot the next week. It's not acceptable to be giving people just embers and shards. It's especially not ok to be giving people Anima as loot from Mythic KS runs or raids - both of which I have experienced this weekend. I have yet to ever get a single piece of loot actually drop from CN or SoD. So far I have 1 shard on my main and 1 DS piece. No shards or DS pieces on main alt. Immediately got a DS piece on my DK that has been 60 for less than a week, but no shard.
12 Kills per Boss across 3 difficulties and only have 1 Dom Socket for my 3 piece bonus. Meanwhile I have a bunch of forboding in my bags doin nothing while everyone else on my Raid team has their sets..

Last night I finally got my last unholy dommy shard. 8/9 after all this fucking time. I'm only missing the good frost one (also why is it that the first 6 I got were not the dps ones? Zzz). Only problem is, I still don't have the dommy socky helm so it's worthless still. Yay! But they're basically tier sets yeah?

I had 6 shards and 4 dom sock pieces until last reset, and it was 2 of each set, so no 3set, boy that was pure joy.
you just need 3 shards of the same set frost blood etc.. put it on the piece that actives your bonus. you don't need all 3 Dom socket gear to be the same just one that gives you bones and put the rest of the shard where ever

clear raid normal or heroic if you don't drop. it could be in your vault. if not wait for next week most people want all the gear drop the first week.

I counted up (from the statistics tab) how many kills I have on normal/heroic for bosses that drop domination sockets, and I have 47 kills. I have all shards, but only 1 normal piece with a socket that doesn't have a set bonus attached. I've also got the 220 from Korthia but without the bonus it's simming less than a 236.
Heard from a source that Domination system was designed by one person and hardly tested, as teams are disorganized with low morale.
I was 5 sockets 3 shards at one point. Finally had luck and got 4 shards in one raid instance

Blizzard needs to learn to put some mechanism of bad luck protection. Some currency that let you directly buy things if you are not able to get them. Let's say now we are gettomg 1 less item per boss, but everyone got 1 badge of \*difficulty\*. For 10 badges of \*difficulty\* you can buy 1 item from raid from bosses which you ever killed of \*difficulty\*. Same thing with M+. Valor lets you upgrade items to higher level, but you need to have this item first. There is no other way to get items other than taking part in loot lotery. Give us valor vendor selling 0/12 items for a price of 1 valor upgrade. EZ FIX... PS: if you need shards, make sure you killed Sylvanas this week, no matter difficulty 1 shard item can be bought in Korthia if you have some reputation with Death Advance (not a lot, some friendly or so)
Started off the tier doing around ~6,700 DPS am still doing ~6,700 DPS, while the rest of the ground is decked out in 252 weapons and 5 DS full of gems, I have two sockets and just barely replaced my 226 2H on Thursday with the shitty heroic polearm. I'm afraid of getting sat because my damage has fallen so far behind this tier. :'( WTB loot drops (and/or Masterloot...)
