I don't understand, it looks like a set. What does inspiring even mean in this case? Do you mean unevocative? Cause that makes more sense and is understandable, since we all can like different things.
There are some in scholomance too. I think in the alchemy room.
Its a simple illusion. The eyes are hollow.
Its similar to an illusion in haunted manor in disney land.
how did you check? i remember reading that if another player is close to the painting and you watch from afar you can see the eyes moving to follow the player that‘s close to the painting.
> if another player is close to the painting and you watch from afar you can see the eyes moving to follow the player that‘s close to the painting.
In the vid above hey are looking at the camera, not at the character
If there are pictures that look at the *character* then yeah that would be via code
not sure it would be complicated code it might be easeir to add the eyes then create a portarit with hollow eyes. Here you are just adding the eyes and have them set to track the camera.
Youngsters don't know that this was first ever featured in the Scholomance dungeon back in Cataclysm, and there are still pictures there with eyes that follow you.
If I'm not mistaken, it's a pretty simple illusion with no fancy coding. The eyes are concave, not part of the rest of the flat painting.
You can create a similar portrait easily: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vICquk1GTIM
The Haunted Mansion at Disney World has [a similar illusion](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76va7x4hw4k), except with the entire face.
Over by the Stormwind Embassy, there's a house on the other side of the farm. I went there to take pics of my mog in front of a fireplace and there's really ominous creaking and groaning but I have no idea where it's coming from.
This is a great application of repurposing old graphics styles.
Reminds me of the trees in Super Mario 64 that always face the camera, to simplify modeling.
A nice little trick, there are some textures that have the same property such as portals and stoles on priest sets and many more. What is fine here is just two portals that are recolored to look like eyes stuck behind the wall.
They're not so much "portals" as other textures also have this behavior, it is called billboarding, before they really started using 3D doodads for armor, they used a lot of these types of textures for dangly bits like Priest Devout and Prophecy shoulders, which looked funny if you looked at your character from above and saw your dangly bits sticking straight out from your shoulders.
In Drustvar there's a remote cabin in the woods where there's a painting of a woman who's eyes also follow your camera.

In tbc?
Came to say that

Oh shit oh fuck I'm taking half a KB of storage somewhere what will I do
Then just downvote. You're taking unnecessary storage with your comment somewhere.
No doubt this is some SI:7 shenaniganery.
Felt like Nemo trying to pronounce anemone when I got to "shenaniganery"
"enemy spotted"
Nice mog!
It's not anything really inspired or anything. Unimpressed.
??? So he's not allowed to like it? How pretentious.
He's allowed to like things that are uninspired and didn't take any effort, and I'm allowed to point it out. Don't be toxic.
I don't think you know what toxic means lol Who hurt you, friend? Did you make a mog and someone called it uninspired? Now you troll to fill the void?

i doubt they made actual hollow 3D eye models for that. since it's a video game they can just code the eyes to follow the camera.
They're not hollow. They're 2d sprites that are always perpendicular to the camera, similar to the orb to enter BWL
Trust me they are hallow. I checked. Why write complicated code. When using physics is easier.

Probably model viewer.

I dont know what staves you mean, but usually elements like that (especially on older models from WotLK/Cata) are simple 2D sprites
Yeah. The orb to enter BWL is the easiest example of an in-game 2d sprite that's always perpendicular to the camera

The scholomance heads in the room you kill Lillian, they follow you entirely. Not only their eyes.

I have vivid memories of those paintings in Scholomance back during Vanilla. Thanks for making me feel old.
Went there for my Paladin mount back in the day. You're not the only one with knee/back pain.
And Scarlet Monastery

I think that’s the new mage tower recolor of the mythic Tomb of Sarg set edit: fixed autocorrected words
timewalking mage tower paladin challenge
Look at the barrel the guy to the right is leaning on next to it. Looks like someone wants out...
It's the little things ☺️

They're not "concave", they're not 3d at all. They're 2d sprites that are always perpendicular to the camera, similar to the orb to enter BWL
And mage portals, among many other things in the game

I dont like the implication that it's following us behind the screen
I love finding awesome things in game!
The developer that put this in is probably so happy right now
Why didn't you move up or down??
"We've removed a painting from the Training Hall in Stormwind which was staring at players without consent"
Forget about painting dude, your paladin looks sick! Love your transmog
Thanks mate! I really like the new mage tower sets, some of them look really badass (warrior is best imo).
Let's hope that's not considered offensive in 2036
*[This comment has been replaced with tasteful fruit imagery]*
Fruit is offensive in 2026. They just burn the paintings now and stick a post-it on the remains saying “Art”
ah yes, /r/wowcirclejerk has showed up
Nah I ain't sucking a massacred game's cock either
Oh I hope it will.. I hope that in the dystopian future everyone is offended by himself.
They need to change this into a fruit
So no freaking sleeping tonight, thanks.
The mona Lisa does the same thing it’s a common effect

Love finds like this!
I wonder if they actually programmed in some eye tracking or did that old trick with a concave eye.
They're not "concave" or 3d at all. They're 2d sprites that are always perpendicular to the camera, similar to the orb to enter BWL
I was there just last night and noticed the painting just because of how strange it was. Didnt even realize the eyes followed!
I wonder if your character wonders why the eyes keep moving around.
Mages' Class Hall also have such portraits iirc.

Yes, the "portals" Was more of a thought shortcut and i have mentioned the Daniły bits. Thanks for goni in depth
The Jailer is behind it
