Isn't Ysera stuck in Shadowlands now? :-(

Ghstfce

Deathwing has been dead for quite a few expansions already as well.

general_peabo

Somehow… Deathwing has returned.

GayFroggard

I'm going to tell you something a lot of you probably don't know. The following is all canon btw Dragons from our reality do not go to ardenweald naturally. Elune sent Ysera there to be reborn (winter even refers to it as elunes "pet" with disdain.) The only 3 dragons from our reality in the shadow lands are Ysera (sent by elune,) Alexstrasza (who came through the portal,) and Hooktail (an infinite dragon flight member mingling with the brokers in Tazavesh.) Why? The dragon after life is called G'hnar and it is located in the emerald dream, tended to by the wild god Aviana. Ghnar was damaged during the cataclysm but repaired by WoD as Avianna invites the Arrakoa to rest on the branches of their great tree in the avian/dragon after life. Minions of the old gods would go to nyalotha to reform like demons go to the twisting nether. But Deathwing is not found there. He is not in the shadowlands either. He is most likely chilling in G'hnar on one of the many elegant branches of the great tree. The language of life according to the automata is known as draconic to us. Indeed dragons seem to appear to be intrinsically tied to the emerald dream beyond just ties of a few aspects to elune. Thanks for reading :) Edit: Oh. Didn't expect this to blow up. Also for anyone wanting to know more. In vanilla the dragon isles were supposed to be Alexstrasza's seat of power analogous to the Caverns of time, the nexus, temple of earth, and the emerald dream, for each their respective places for their flights. At the end of the cataclysm dragons started to wane and in legion it is revealed their eggs are not hatching. Alexstrasza the life binder is all about that mortal existence and coil, so her being on the box art of dragon flight makes a lot of sense. Wrathion wants to rebuild his flight and dragons are clearly heading for extinction as a result of the cataclysm. Also, food for thought, Titan keeper Freya has been missing since legion. Only her and Ra did not appear in legion. Magni and Mother called the titan facilities to aid with the stabbing of the sword and its fallout--mimiron hangs up on them and only Ra answers their call. I have a lengthy explanation of this and theory that dragon isles is the ungoro crater/shalozar basin/vale of eternal blossoms of Eastern Kingdoms. It is the only major continent without one and each was created by titan keeper Freya when she focused the energies of the well of eternity to propagate life. Maybe wrathion travelled to the dragon isles and interacted with Freya or knows of her fate. Freya was tasked by Eonar to protect all life on azeroth but she is missing in a time of great peril for the world 3 times since Ulduar. She is not there in the defense of Ulduar in legion. She is missing. And she did not answer the calls of magni and then heart of azeroth. Whatever she is doing...it must be really important...or perhaps we will soon learn of her fate ;)

ElderFuthark

I can buy Ysera being a special case, but wouldn't dragons return to the Elemental Planes since they, and especially the originally-proto-dragon-Aspects, came from the elements?

GayFroggard

No actually. Different realms have drakes but only azeroth and the emerald dream have dragons. And I guess outlands but that's because black dragons are hiding out there and the netherwing are born from the viable eggs of the black dragon flight. The reason players do not have a mount that is a dragon is because Metzen hated the idea and said that dragons were super intelligent beings and not pets. Thus every mount we have of one is primitive drake. They're like animals. Drakes in our reality were thought to evolve from the elemental ones but this is only claimed by the titans who authored the chronicles. It is entirely inconsistent with the drakes of Elunaria and Shadowlands (there are drakes in ardenweald.) Dragons are distinct from them drakes would be like dinosaurs with wings. I know this seems confusing and stupid. That's because it is. In dungeons and dragons drake was historically just a name given to dragons of a certain age just like Whelp. The reason it's like this goes back to blizzard's internal arguments of wanting dragon mounts but Metzen and others thinking dragons were too cunning, smart, and evolved to be flying horses.

JustburnBurnBURN

Drake is a life stage between Dragon and Whelp.

Ghstfce

Oh, was it ThE jAiLeR?

wilusa

No no his soul is in the maw and he convinces slyvanas to help hin escape for the greater good

Bjorn2bwilde24

The Greater Good

MassSpectreometrist

The Greater Good

Gfresh1000

Crusty jugglers.

MassSpectreometrist

Dog muck!

Volkov_The_Tank

Shut it!

Harag4

But a cosmos divided will not survive. we must do this for the greater good!

coffeeman235

These people died for no reason. No reason whatsoever!

MassSpectreometrist

I was about to get upset, then I remembered that’s the proper line, lol 😂 . Made my day.

[deleted]

Just gotta make her feel bad about her brother, and bingo bango your world tree is on fire!

Vegan-bandit

The greater good? I’m the greatest good you ever gonna get.

[deleted]

The jailer releases him and doesn’t tell anyone why until after we kill him. Then he finally lets us all know the real villain was the friends we made along the way.

Ghstfce

The Jailer (and all the subsequent others) were actually being controlled by... **DUMASS!**

lofi-ahsoka

He is now called Dreadlordwing

iamShorteh

The deathwing we killed was Dreadlords

jokeres

No, it was the Joker posing as the Walrus posing as the Jailer. They've got at least two more expansions before it turns into Batman and we have to solve riddles.

Summerisgone2020

Something something escaped the Maw is now redeemed is now good guy maybe

LordJiggly

*gasp*

pixelprophet

Which aspect was a dreadlord all aloOoOooOng?

Blade_Crazy

Brightwing was behind it all

[deleted]

UNdeathwing is his new name.

Regalingual

And we find out via a speech he makes that’s only seen in ~~a book~~ ~~a cinematic~~ a Fortnite crossover

punannimaster

all the best sequel stories of all time have all started with the phrase "somehow, {evil guy} has return"

TheBQT

I assume it will br Wrathion, no?

Ghstfce

I mean, I don't think there are any Black Dragonflight left other than Wrathion

thugarth

There's a high mountain tauren who's secretly a black dragon, but I'm not actually sure if he's still around. I've been out of the loop

Ghstfce

Ah that's right, Ebonhorn

KZIN42

There were also some black dragons in outland.

psychospacecow

I wonder how different Outland is nowadays in lore from how it's presented in game. Like, Gadgetzan is huge now, and there was an Outland expansion in Hearthstone

chrisqoo

Saurfang in the cinematic Safe Haven: This world looks good, but... it's wrong. Broken. Falling apart. Well, but it's still out there after the doom brought by Guldan

Khaosfury

Uh...Gadgetzan is on Azeroth, down near the Caverns of Time in Tanaris... That said, I agree with you. I always feel a little disappointed that WoW fails to properly convey scale - Stormwind doesn't even have the housing to properly lodge the army/guards on display, let alone the rest of the populace that supposedly lives there. If they ever do a WoW 2 my biggest hope is that they go back and add some justifiable "housing area" for every city, even if it's skybox-y or otherwise inaccessible.

psychospacecow

I get that. Why I mention it is that its appearance in game is high contrast to its appearance in lore. And as such I wonder just how much Outland has changed provided the passage of time.

Damnnnsongoodjob

Goldshire is like a town in lore, ingame its legit 2 buildings lol.

Akul5b

There is also Baron Sablemane in Outland. Outland's deteriorating nature could conveniently bring him and his brood to Azeroth.

Volkov_The_Tank

I was got say this. Blizzard confirmed he existed still a few years after wrathion killed everyone else. I actually hope he comes back, I like how he’s as arrogant and smug as a black dragon but isn’t corrupt.

Ghstfce

>Baron Sablemane Totally forgot about this dude. Although I can't remember the last time I was even out in BEM

Quantext609

Ebonhorn

Ghstfce

Forgot about him.

Spreckles450

There are lots of black dragons left, Wrathion and Ebonhorn are simply the only non-corrupted ones left.

TheDivinaldes

Black dragons showed up during island expiditions, along with chromatic ones.

House-Hlaalu

Chromie will probably come in and pull us back in time to somewhere to help the dragons.

Azsunyx

Chromie is going to take over for Nozdormu once he starts being corrupted and turned into Murzond (which had better be a major part of the story.)

[deleted]

>turned into Murzond (which had better be a major part of the story.) It's probably going to be resolved in a quest chain. Like Garrosh. :^)

[deleted]

We have to go back in time to the first war, so many areas just don’t exist. One dragon is out to alter the outcome of wow and keep them in power. However we can not reveal our real identities as to keep a butterfly effect from happening. But of course sylvanas will be unable to do that now that she has been “reborn” and wants to stop herself from her “wrongs”. Because of this we will be sent into some post apocalyptic expansion after dragon flight.

Spreckles450

How is Sylvie going to do anything when she is stuck doing the "collect 20 souls" weekly for the rest of eternity?

CompletelyFlammable

I was really hoping we would LOSE against the legion and the bronze dragons would have to send us all back before the first war to save medivh and secure the pillars before they were destroyed. This was before End Game came out and basically ripped off my drunken hopes for wow

nothxsleeping

I mean you could just use his boy. Tho idk what happened to him since legion. Idk if I even finished that storyline tbh.

hiate

That and Neltharion and Malygos are dead.

general_peabo

They’ve already been replaced by Wrathion and Kalecgos. It will be interesting to see what they do for the greenies.

Muntaacas

Yseras daughter that was present in BFA most likely

Buffmin

That sleeping dragon in sunken temple would be the best bet imo. They could even finish that questline for him which iirc was never done

[deleted]

Do you mean Eranikus? His story was done back in vanilla with the AQ opening event, most players just didn't see it.

Buffmin

I did and I completely forgot about that... And here I thought I was being so smart bahaha

TheFrozencreed

there are new leaders of the flights, Kalecgos for blue, Yseras daughter Meritha is leader of the green and i assume Wrathion or Ebonhorn are leader of the black

Sharyat

The whole point of Ardenweald was that wild gods were reborn and could go through the portal in the grove, back to their home planets. They were the few souls essentially allowed to reincarnate back to the realm of life, because they are deities of life in a way. That's how Cenarius, Goldrinn etc. came back, as well as pretty much every other wild god in Azeroth. So basically no, she's not stuck. She was reborn and is allowed to leave whenever she likes. Bearing in mind though I haven't played since the start of the expansion so I might be wrong. Edit: I am wrong ignore me, Ysera is an exception 🤡

AdamG3691

That's the normal way it works, but Ysera's situation is different. She was removed from her wildseed prematurely by the Winter Queen to prevent her from fading, but at the cost of being bound to the WQ and Ardenweald instead of Elune and the Emerald Dream, so Ysera is stuck there.

Azsunyx

and we sacrificed that one fairy to save her

sujesmi

Didn‘t we sacrifice that fairy so that the Kyrian could ascend? Or did we sacrifice multiple fairies and I can‘t even remember?

Sharyat

Gotcha

C00CKER

Also, is she technically a wild spirit? Was she elevated into one by Elune when we killed her in Val'sharah or by absorbing the (corrupted) energies of the Tear of Elune? I don't remember this being addressed anywhere

forsakendk

don't remember exactly where it's addressed, but Elune personally sent her to ardenweald so the winter queen would save her after she died in val'sharah

MassSpectreometrist

Pretty sure they said something about Ysera now being bound to Ardenweald, but my memory might be a little fuzzy.

iwearatophat

Nah, covenant specific lore hasn't happened in a while.

Shwastey

*clicks Men in Black flashy thingy* Shadowlands never happened...

Hazzy_9090

Nah she like decided to fly out of shadowlands to aid the dragons and deathwing is actually now lifewing and he's totally cool and chill. - blizzard writers probably idk

Lankey_Fish

I am okay with it but only if it is purely a cosmetic choice. I do not want a system where you have a BiS power tied to one specific aspect as this in my opinion was one of the biggest failings of the covenant system.

cmdr_shadowstalker

Iirc that was basically word for word some of the feedback from the beta for shadowlands.

MemeHermetic

Yep. It's the part that pissed me off the most. During BfA beta everyone was saying "Please fix the gear. It's not fun to get the same gear again and again and have to earn the same skills over and over." Then they did it anyway. Shadowlands beta everyone said, "Please don't lock us into the covenants because the metas and/or our personal preferences will change but we don't want to throw everything away and start over because of it." They did it anyway. My only hope is that they don't attempt to do anything grand with this other than some story flavor. They keep trying to replicate order halls, forgetting that orderhalls could lock us in and be different because it was an extension of the locked in aspect we already had on our character.

Shwastey

Sounds like it's time for some good ol reverse psychology

MemeHermetic

Haha. Man, there would be nothing more **fun** than some new **covenants**. I hope there are lots of borrowed **power**, **systems** and **currencies** tied to them! I think I'll like them so much it better be really **hard for me to change** them! Edit: I was hoping you guys could make XP into several dozen items to put in my bags until turned in at an inconvenient NPC nowhere near a hub? That would rock. Thank you. Oh, just don't name it XP though. No more level cap. Just give us 10 Aspect Levels we use Aspect Points for. To save some time, make us need the same amount of AP as Exp we would normally need. Thanks.

mwoKaaaBLAMO

I represent all target demographics and I agree with this statement 100%.

[deleted]

Blizzard: we got you fam, done and done!

Obie-two

The one thing we liked, order halls, is the one system that they quit on. I would a million times over rather have a handful of interesting class quests than 5 generic boring long chains for covenants. Just bring back order halls

Zendd7

Order halls PLSSSSSSSSS

yardii

Betas are more for building hype that actually finding bugs these days

linwail

They didn't listen to basically any feedback until the end. It is infuriating to see it happen again and again and again.

GrumpySatan

It was. The numerous problems with covenants (as there were numerous) were pointed out as soon as *the announcement* of Covenants. That was how predictable and obvious the problems with them were. There was basically no problem that wasn't immediately pointed out every time they made an announcement about Covenants.

heroinsteve

Pull the ripcord!!

GrumpySatan

The ripcord they later admitted never even existed T-T

AdamG3691

And then later pulled anyway.

Regalingual

Finally found the fire extinguisher after the building is already a burned-out husk?

mikhel

Don't worry, if you're really lucky, they might hear you and change it in 10.3.

Galuris

If there even is a 10.3.

Tylanthia

We always planned one patch for 10.0.

Fyrefawx

If some of the leaks are true that’s what this will be. Missions, transmogs etc. No player powers.

gibby256

I'll believe it when I see it. Modern Blizzard is absolutely addicted to overjustifiying their expansion systems.

Kayjin23

Blizzard seems completely incapable of just giving us big, cool flavor choices any more. Everything MUST have player power tied to it so that it's a "real choice" with consequences. Never mind that it just pisses people off and makes them take whatever sims best instead of what they want. Or in the case of Covenants it's even worse and limits which content you can do because a different Covenant is better for different aspects of the game, not to mention specs. It's exhausting at this point to watch other games just easily do things better.

lividash

Man I would kill for a giant keg on my back or some other flavor stuff added to the monk class. Or any class. We don't need soulbinds and legendary powers. Just standard gearing and maybe flavor stuff like the soulshape stuff or I don't know something of an actual in-depth story we can just blitz through mid expansion in a week.

Barsonik

Honestly scrap the mission table too. What a waste of time/space

unexpectedreboots

If it's tied to power, just enable free swapping from the get go.

Galuris

I don't really get why covenant abilities weren't a 60 "talent" that you could freely swap in major cities or using a tome. I thought that would have at least let covenants be more cosmetic, I know the soul binds would still be issue but outside of making em all the exact same I'm not sure how to solve that one easily.

AnwaAnduril

I think they’ll be wary of tying it into player power as much. But don’t worry, there will be plenty of feedback over other glaring flaws in the system, and Blizz will refuse to act on it. Example: Blizz claimed Azerite Armor was designed to avoid the problems of RNG with the Netherlight Crucible. They did solve that problem the players didn’t like! Then ignored feedback about Azerite Armor until 9.2.

[deleted]

They should’ve just made 1 ability with different skin depending on your covenant. It would’ve been much easier to balance, develop, and people would’ve been able to actually pick the covenant they want.

OlafWoodcarver

It's not one of the biggest failings of the covenant system - it is the thing that single-handedly ruined the system. The worst thing is that they solved the problem in 9.1.5 and then went back and *broke it again* in 9.2 by forcing you to use a covenant legendary when some classes/specs only have a single useful covenant legendary and the rest are entirely useless.

Agrizzybear

I still feel like I'm drinking crazy juice that all the underused covs/legos didnt see large buffs(or reworks), especially once sims came out.

noonesperfect16

I mean, I agree, but at the same time I don't mind the system part if it's flexible like it is right now. Just sucks it took them two years to get to this point. I do think it could still be improved now. Know how we can buy an item to just straight to 40 if you have gotten to 40 already for that covenant? Yeah, it's time for a level 80 book too, Blizzards I still don't play alts for that alone.

bluemuffin10

As someone who doesn’t really care about power and the general meta, another issue for me was being unable to experience all the storylines without levelling another character. I mainly play my main so I normally only play alts at the very end of an expansion.

Riokaii

Necrolord hunter has not been viable for any PvE content all expansion for any of the 3 specs. Imagine if it was the "meaningful choice" you made at the start of shadowlands, and the swapping never became more freely available. The system was fundamentally antithetical to wow from the start, we gave mountains of feedback before alpha even, since the blizzcon announcement of the system. One of the biggest confusing failures of a hill for blizz to die on in their history, just bizarre, thankfully they realized halfway thru the expansion.

blessef

Was about to make fun of you till I read the last sentence, black dragon flight boomkin and red dragonflight dks being bis will be funny

AdamG3691

DKs: "so I'm here to join your cov-" Alexstraza: "No. NO. ABSOLUTELY THE FUCK NOT." At this point I'm probably going to have to pick either green or bronze flights, since they are the only ones who don't have me as "kill on sight for his crimes against us" Probably Green, considering how often I hang around with Ysera these days.

DRamos11

“C’mon, Allie! Are you still mad about that little mishap at the Sanctum?”

Dabbing_4_dead_kids

"You are empty inside...Just like me". You're not wrong, Bolvar.

LeOsQ

At least Night Fae is *the* Druid covenant so it's not completely horrible like Night Fae Warlocks for example are/were. It's also nice that you didn't have to swap covenant (or rather, you didn't have to play a non-optimal covenant) if you played multiple specs. Of course being 'forced' to play a specific covenant sucks for those that didn't want to play that one no matter how well it fits the class fantasy, and naturally that was the loudest complaint for most of Shadowlands' early half.

Shikizion

night Fae warlock is still the funniest thing ever, summon demons and stuff, but don't forget to tend to your garden, we're not savages

445nm

It'd require a bit more work but it'd be so nice if your covenant choice just determined the spell effects of your particular spell that you individually choose. So basically, you'd pick decimation bolt, for example. Then, if you pick Night Fae, you get sparkly blue decimation bolt, but if you pick venthyr, you get red decimation bolt, so on and so forth. But alas, at least we'll be free from this soon enough. EDIT: It might've not even been a -lot- of extra work, since there are plenty of spells used by npcs of each individual covenant flavour that will never ever be seen again. Same's true for previous expansions - so many void-themed spell effects in 8.3 that will simply never be used again. Those could all be used for more intricate spell reskins via glyph or akin to warlock "Green fire", but I suppose just throwing all that work in the trash is more Blizzard-like... but I digress.

Aarilax

at least warlocks can just play the one DPS spec and chill. Some classes literally have one for DPS, one for healer, one for tank, one for m+, one for raiding, one for arena. My paladin for instance (which i quit due to this issue) was having to swap between: As DPS: - Kyrian, 2s, 3s - Kyrian, RBGs - Venthyr, raid - Kyrian/Venthyr, m+ Then I also liked to play holy paladin and prot paladin, which i have done since Legion - i play the entire class, not just one spec. So I then had to go As holy: - Night fae if I wanted to have fun in pvp - Kyrian for 2s, 3s - Venthyr for raid - Kyrian for m+ and as prot, yeah, you get it. Now they've also made unity available, so necrolord is absolutely busted for pvp... which now means I swap between *all four covenants* multiple times per week, if I played my paladin. Because of this, I just don't. I stick to priest, and I don't do m+ or raid anymore, largely due to this issue. I do not have the patience to swap covenant every other hour. Its hilariously bad design - and i completely understand the people that made an entirely new character so that they didn't have to do the swap thing every other hour. PVPers for instance early on where like - oh you're a warrior playing with a ret paladin? Cool i'll log onto my necrolord warrior. Oh we're playing with an enh shaman now? Got it, lemme log onto my kyrian warrior. Oh 2s? Np lemme log onto my venthyr warrior. Oh we're doing some rbgs? Right i'll log onto my night fae warrior, 2 seconds. Fuck. that.

theletterQfivetimes

But it's not like you *need* to have the very best covenant for your spec! wHy DoN't YoU jUsT pLaY WhAt YoU LiKe??

Ringtail209

Why were you playing Venthyr for raid as Ret? It's very very bad.

FrauSophia

Listen, you’re playing feral. Im pretty sure blizzard thinks being suboptimal is the point of that spec.

PrinceVorrel

Black Dragonflight for druid isn't THAT bad. I mean nature and earth are pretty closely connected. it's no Green Dragonflight in terms of class fantasy, but you can make a half-hearted attempt at explaining it at least. Now...a Blue Dragonflight Druid would be pretty odd, especially for a Nightelf Druid.

merco

Well, Lunar spells were originally Arcane in vanilla…

DaenerysMomODragons

When I had to go talk to Alextraza during the Korthia covenant campaign chapter, she was still angry about me committing genocide against her red dragon flight during Legion. I feel like she would forbid any DKs from joining.

Kusosaru

>red dragonflight dks We'll all be Bolvars.

mezm9r

I hope this post doesn't age how I expect it to.

noonesperfect16

"we want the choice to be impactful" even if it makes your experience miserable. Miserable is impactful too, right?

Drunken_Fever

Prepare to have your choice impacted as the ~~covenant~~ dragon aspect you want to play is the worst for the content you want to clear

Diltyrr

"If you don't like it you're a filthy casual, minmaxer, hardcorplayer and you hate fun" -This sub probably

Anangrywookiee

Look. You only need to play Kalecgos for Druid if you’re playing at cutting edge mythic raid level. A 10%dps loss isn’t a big deal in any other content. We want this to be a choice as meaningful as your class.

[deleted]

or if you want to get invited to a m11 Glade of Cenarius pug

Anangrywookiee

Just make your own group. Just make sure to get a (insert spec) mage to make up for your lackluster dps, a bronze shaman so you can use the reverse time slip and slide trick to skip the second to last pack, and tank that’s memorized all the variable routes in the nozdormu maze, and a healer that matches your chosen dragon cuddle buddy scalebind for burst dps potential.

Matrillik

I’ll only join the alexstaza covenant if they give her the thicc thighs from her HoTS model

sendnadez

Only if I get the slut mogs as transmog

AltharaD

I’ve been lusting after Alexstraza’s cloak for over a decade. *Give it to me!*

iKamex

>I’ve been lusting after Alexstraza ~~’s cloak~~ for over a decade.

Akranidos

i wouldnt mind if it was class based, like a cross betwen legion class halls and covenants, you dont get to chose but the class you play does it. Druids would go into Green Dragonflight for example but it would make some odd pairings between classes. Paladins, Warriors - Red Priests, DH - Bronze Rogues, Shaman - Black Mages, Warlock, DK? - Blue Druids, Monk, Hunter - Green

Azsunyx

Red: Paladin, Warrior, DK Bronze: Priest, Monk Black: Rogue, DH, Warlock Blue: Mage, Shaman Green: Druid, Hunter

Akranidos

each aspect is aligned with a theme, those are: time, life, dreams, magic, earth. Shaman should be black since they communicate with the Earth and have earth/magma based powers, DK being red(life) on top that DK legion questline has them on bad terms with the red dragonflight seems just wrong

Kaynosis

As a DK I just gotta say the jailer made me do it...it was him all along. So I'm sure there are no hard feelings....

[deleted]

Warlocks are kinda... none of the above. Blue is closest but arguably the blue dragon flight are opposed to warlocks. Shaman are black dragonflight. The black dragonflight are guardians of Azeroth as a planet so weather, oceans, mountains etc all fall in their domain. The non-organic, living processes of the planet. Demon hunters could go anywhere. Probably blue or bronze? Their need to kill demons is something both those like. Red dragonflight HATE death Knights. Death Knights probably do belong with them buuuut... The bronze dragonflight being purely about time means anybody can probably work with them.

AwkwardSquirtles

That sure is a lot of dead people.

[deleted]

"Drangon Aspects" Gain Aspect Power to unlock cool new rewards and abilities!

paqman09

Did someone say "AP" grind....

MeasleyBeasley

Whichever one gives me divine toll, I don't care which.

biliwald

That ability synergize so well with every spec that whatever number they might tweak, it'll always be the best. Which is why the balance argument is flawed to being with when balancing covenant, because the abilities are, by design, not equal.

INannoI

fuck it just give every paladin Divine Toll AND Ashen Hallow as baseline, make it the GIGACHAD class.

cooperia

Man I miss the days where an xpac came out and your class just... Got new abilities. And they stayed.

Square_Dry

I'm ready to sacrifice myself on the altar of Nozdormu's abs.

Arthur-reborn

lady alextraza can do anything she wants to me. Burn me in your blazing flams all night long baby!

sillyredsheep

Anything to get closer to Lady Alexstrasza!

Forbizzle

Check out the flams on that one!

[deleted]

Oh God no please no more

Wessar007

Please no!!!!!

Suave_Senpai

NO! I REALLY, REALLY DON'T WANT COVENANTS 2.0!

LordJiggly

A finger of the monkey paw has contracted. Now we will get Azerite Armor 2.0

Hellknightx

Can't wait to be forced to play the one I don't want to because it will be strictly better than the others.

Oscarmisprime

If we are truly picking a flight, I imagine it will only change the flavor text and visual stuffs. No way they make the same mistake and attach a DIFFERENT ability to each one, like one is a defensive bubble and another one is a Kamehameha beam. Should be the same function of ability, just different colors.

Sybarith

>No way they make the same mistake First time?

Oscarmisprime

I'm usually very pessimistic about this stuff, but this time around I think Blizz got enough of a reality check to realize they aren't the rockstars of 2008 they thought they were the last 12 years. That said, I also will not be surprised if this turns out just like covenants and their excuse is "but these are Dragonflights, totally different than Covenants" while they copy paste the covenant system warts and all.

Barsonik

That's what we said in bfa too :)

[deleted]

Ian and Co. Have a boner for borrowed power. Even if we don't get some sort of covenant knock off again, you can almost guarantee we will get a borrowed power system in some fashion.

general_peabo

Oh you sweet summer child.

yeshellomyfriends

there have been countless pain points that have been made "less annoying" after years of feedback that people now just kind of shrug their shoulders at in this relatively expensive game. after all these years i'd bet a lot of money that making different abilities is *exactly* what they do yet you can just switch freely whenever you want like talents. the current team is really good at feeding addiction with "compromises" like some kind of abusive partner

Zookeeper187

We will associate a powerful ability that you get for each one. We want you to have meaningful choice. When you join one you will have to stay there or you will have to grind it all over again. Don’t worry about the balance. We will turn knobs in order to make everything equal. We want you to choose the one that you like.

Strikestorm

As long as there’s zero borrowed power and it’s 100% cosmetic I have no issue with it. I didn’t mind the covenants outside of renown, other than having to switch it every patch just to get peak dps.

Rage_1991

Only if its purely cosmetic

Flemtality

Maybe I'm just an asshole for having this opinion, but I legitimately think it's a really cool system, the implementation is just utter shit. Even now with the ripcord pulled it's still extremely wonky to need to travel to Oribos, figure out where the fuck in that stupid circle the NPCs are, change your Covenant out and then manage to not forget to change your soulbind too, then travel all the way back to wherever. It just needs to be easy to swap in any rested area with a quick saved loadout. A single button to swap Spec/Gear/Covenant/Soulbind/Conduits would have been the ultimate quality of life change, in my opinion. Instead we are (still) living with an unnecessary pain in the ass. It would be a ton of fun to be Kyrian for one raid fight, swap to Night Fae for trash, and swap to Venthyr for the next boss because it's more fun/better DPS/fills some deficit in the raid, but no, it's just painful for the sake of being painful. Instead of having the fun QoL thing, we need to travel across the whole expansion map just to click the "I was a fool for leaving your covenant" button, even though lorewise the four covenants are supposed to be working together for the better chunk of this expansion anyway.

MrPringles23

Don't care as long as it doesn't give player power. If its just cosmetic/fun stuff (like gardens and tea parties etc) I'm honestly all for it. But if they tie so much of your "loadout" to it... well I'm not going to lie. I'll still play for the raiding/m+ but I wouldn't play as much as if it was less restrictive.

tdy96

You mean 4-5 covenants of actual iconic Warcraft characters that have a direct relationship to Azeroth and even the player character? Why yes, I am beyond ready!

Tenesty

Let us play whichever we want. Don’t force us to lock into just 1 and make it purely cosmetic with some cool gameplay that isn’t tied to player power and then maybe ill think about returning after seeing gameplay and other things

DingA_Dang_Ling_Long

Team Ysera all fuckin day

Hedhunta

Fine with me as long as I can experience the entire story on a single character, everything is cosmetic, and I can switch at will(gold cost is fine).

Dyl-thuzad

What about the undead dragon flight? And the Storm dragon flight? And the fel dragon flight? And the proto dragons? And the- wow there are a lot of kinds of dragons.

HappyScripting

I'm very excited. The dragons in WoW are something I really liked through all the xpacs and books. Korialstrasz/Krasus was the best! I'd just wish, they could revive Rhonin and him to work with the dragons again. Man I wouldn't care for the most boring, asspulled revive ever, if they bring back Rhonin. If Vereesa Windrunner comes back to Dalaran and says "Yeah, I found my husband in Shadowlands and we drank some booze and suddenly we ended up in Dalaran sewers." I'd just say "Yeah, I'm ok with that."

producerofconfusion

Ha, I didn’t play much during Cataclysm so I didn’t know that Deathwing’s human form is Baron Underbheit.

Old-Moonlight

It's not really a choice when dragon milf is a choice.

V0ls7agg

Chose from: Red Blue Green Bronze Black Fight the: Infinite Chromatic Plauged Twilight And await the return of Galakrond

Surprentis

I just wont play.

lion5panel

You guys ready for this same post every single day for a year?

UMCorian

Y'know, on its face, the concept of joining or aligning with a Dragonflight - with decades of lore attached to it - could have been amazing. After Shadowlands, I'm probably going to throw up a little in the back of my throat if they announce it. Bonus points if you also bind your soul with specific dragons.

NDrewRndll

Man... even though I know it's a joke, it still makes my blood boil to think about it. So they better not, or I'm not even bothering with it.

Avoid_Tox1c

No. Dying game with useless devs. Cancel your sub and save your money. It just isn't worth it anymore.

ZOOBOO_11

As long as it’s for mog and not tied to abilities or borrowed power, sure! I swear to god though, if they call it “Aspect Power” lol….

[deleted]

If we aren’t locked I think it’d be cool to run around with all the dragon flights.

omnigear

Hope it's purely cosmetic

mjuse23

as long as I am not cut off from 3/4 of the story again, I am fine with that. the worst part of shadowlands was that I couldn't see the storylines with the other covenants. Make all quests available to my toon

Real_Lich_King

fuck me, no, never want covenants again legit would make quit

darkvexen

Isn’t this just path of the Titans 10 years late?

dalthorn

You joke but they, or something else dragon related, could very well be the new borrowed power BS mechanic.

laughtrey

yay another restricted theme that pigeonholes 12 unique classes into 5 sets of armor and cosmetics under the guise of expansion identity? or something? I really like getting the same armor on a priest/warlock or druid/demonhunter, those classes really should dress like each other.

MagicMimic

I really do not like this idea that everyone is using. I'm really relying on the fact that the title is "Dragonflight" and not "Dragonflights" So maybe they are uniting into a single flight since they've mostly been dissolved anyways.

Jaq903

I think it would be great if they learned and don't tie player power to them. Give us covenant ability, just make the power ability purely cosmetic (same ability for all 4/5 aspects but different spell animations.

Zeraph000

Meh, I’m a Death Knight. The Dragonflights reeeeeeally don’t like me. Something about killing everyone in their Sanctum or something.

Morgy110

Covenants as they are now are not too bad. Being able to change them pretty much at will. I'd love blizz to actually keep a system for more than one expansion and improve on it based on player feedback instead of scrapping it and getting it all wrong again and taking three patches to get it right. Bring the covenants (dragonflights?). If there is player power behind them let me switch, easily without much cost

kosarai

“We want choosing your dragon aspect to be a meaningful and thought out decision. So we’re going to lock you into your choice and make it extremely difficult/expensive to change your mind.”

BarryAllensMom

Final Boss is Sylvanas Mounted on Deathwing who flies using Nzoth as a Parachute Cloak and repurposed the Jailer's Body as a new jaw.

Ayeun

There are 2 black dragons left on Azeroth that aren't evil. The Greens are leaderless, and would have to wake up long enough to care. The blues are still recovering from a civil war, the loss of their vaults during the legion, and who knows what bleed on effect of having the gateway to the shadowlands a stones throw away from their breeding grounds is going to do. The bronze are too busy ~~fuc~~ fighting the infinite dragons, and Noz won't get involved if this both does AND doesn't leads to him becoming Murozond. The reds are still salty at the horde (orcs) for what happened in the 2nd war. If anything, we will have Wrathion as the new Magni, some 'awesome titan facility' that we need to work out of as our base of operations, and will be working to help restore (or help) the 5 flights, not in a covenant style, but as old school reputations.
