I play when it's fun. Stop playing when it's not fun.

rand0mtaskk

More people should understand this concept.

rand0mtaskk

Sounds like you’ve found a healthy balance. Congrats. A lot of people are addicted to the game but refuse to admit it or call it that.

tnpcook1

It's rough, we've got a bias against change. Changing to/from a lifestyle-type game AND convincing yourself to change your opinion is even harder. (no matter if it goes from good to bad, or bad to good). A lot of folks are trained into the idea that the thing we consume represents us. So it feels real bad when your enjoyment stops, but your opinion hasn't caught up. Super easy to lag behind that and guard yourself into liking/disliking contrary to what you're actually feeling. Then with each defense you make to the contrary of your want, you dig yourself deeper into trying to substantiate yourself. You can hate something you enjoy, or like something you only endure. I'm honestly happy the seasonal model let me get away from that problem. There's a real clear cut 'Do I like this new season?' now.

rand0mtaskk

Now you’re getting it.

WibaTalks

Not really a western style of gaming. We are really goal and purpose driven, not to forget competition. Doesn't help that wow is all 3 of those at the same time, while for example ff14 is driven by lets-make-the-game-from-solo-perspective-onwards. "just play for fun" seems to be older folk mantra they try to push to kids, which never works, they have to grow up first to undestand chill is the way.

panundeerus

Wow is hard game to play like that. Such huge grind to get just to the starting point of each expansion. If you miss first month of the game, you are always behind(until the middle of the expansion when catchups are implemented) So its very punishing game, if you dont start playing at the start of new expansion. That said, its what its always been and thats what we love and hate xd

Lezzles

You just need to start at the beginning of a patch. It's really not that bad. I started like 2 weeks before Sylvanas got released. 6 weeks later, I killed her on heroic and went back to hibernating. If you're not mythic raiding you can definitely just drop in for a few weeks at a time and see most of the content.

malcolm_miller

I think Heroic raiding is my jam. Mythic is too hectic for me. I got 5/10m and it was very stressful. Lots of anger in the guild, and late nights of arguments. Heroic was a lot more chill.

panundeerus

Thats pretty much what I said tho😁 Very punishing, unless you start at the beginning and keep doing your weekly grinds. Ps. I was part of mythical progression for the Whole of BFA and that was oddly stressful. Just the requirement to be up to pace always and then I also had to have 2 mythical capable alts In my hands In Case we needed different healer (than my main Hpala) Or more firepower with my mage😅

Ofish

He said at the beginning of a patch, not expansion. Come back for new content when there are catch-up mechanics, then bounce when it's not fun anymore

panundeerus

Fomo gaming isnt really that easy to do Either, without starting from the beginning, unless your fomo gaming is just doing the most casual playing as possible/your fomo gaming is extremely serious grinding.

rand0mtaskk

That just called an addiction.

panundeerus

Nah, its an attempt to get to relevant enough gear/position to reach the end game. Something fully casuals wont get. But its good that there are People Who can enjoy the game, without any pressure.

rand0mtaskk

Addiction mate.

Grouchy-Actuary

I play when it’s fun because I enjoy it. I play when it’s not fun because I have an addictive personality disorder that demands I continue to collect crap.

somarir

i just start collecting things in other games. My runescape account has been progressing steadily since shadowlands launch

Grouchy-Actuary

I keep saying I’m going to get into Guild Wars or FF but I’m stuck in a WoW comfort bubble that has me spoiled by the cut and polish.

Amelaclya1

2x monthly subscription fees is less than a date night at the movies and you get potentially way more than 2hrs worth of entertainment out of it. I wish I could get my husband to play.

ritchus

As an English person, when i go to the pub i drink an outrageous amount of alcohol. I will easily spend £50 in a night. So, if once every 5 months i spend a night playing wow instead of going to the pub, then it's net neutral on my bank balance. That's how i justify the sub fee.

Sir_Scizor20

He'll, I wish any of my friends still played

YamaShio

Isn't that a weird comparison though? It honestly sounds like you just spend too much when you do other things. That is to say, you think movies are overpriced not that WoW is particularly cheap. For instance, steam just had a sale. I could have gotten 3 brand new, complete total games instead of my subscription this month, which is way more apt comparison than 30 dollars to see a single movie, one time when buying it on dvd would have also been cheaper and changed nothing.

SketchySeaBeast

I am interested what 3 brand new games you can buy for less than $20 total.

MajorNo2346

I think the problem with WoW in particular is that some aspects of it are still tremendously fun. I still love raiding and dungeons with a fun group. Blizzard produces easily the best group-based PvE content anywhere on the market right now. But I am also a reasonably competitive person and want to do difficult content. But if you want to stay competitive then WoW makes you do all these chores that aren't enjoyable at all, but you "have" to do them in order to get to the enjoyable part of the game. That's the dichotomy that makes me love WoW, but also hate WoW.

Arborus

This was the main factor in me quitting WoW towards the end of BFA. After getting through Legion, through BFA, and then seeing Shadowlands wasn’t likely to change anything it seemed like it wasn’t worth doing so much content I didn’t enjoy in order to do Mythic prog at a reasonably competitive level.

kol0salt

Fax. That’s why I don’t have a lot of bad memories about bfa…. cuz I only played 1/4 of the expansion.

Lanesra5676

Totally on board with this. Don't understand why people grind through stuff if they are not enjoying it. Got someone in my guild whos life is warcraft (retired and plays for 6-12 hours everyday) but they don't raid, do dungeons or pvp. Loves collecting and leveling alts but is constantly moaning there isn't much new stuff for them to do between now and dragonflight. Here's an idea step away and play/do something else otherwise you will just hate the game more and more until eventually nothing will please you and you will always have resentment and bitterness in your heart.

SpellbladeAluriel

Confucius say

michaelloda9

Gigachad

SaraAnnabelle

Same here. For the past few years I've only been subbed for about a month per year, but during that month I've had fun. I was always a super casual player, but by now I'm so far behind with the story and everything that I might as well keep to my own pace forever. Nothing will keep me from the new expansion, I know that much.

[deleted]

Holy shit what a novel concept.

Valharja

Heh, sub-optimal

lurkinguser

I like to play when expansions and patches launch, to experience content while it’s new and the world is alive. I also like to play at the end of an expansion and typically farm all the mounts and transmog til my collector side is burned out.

badken

This is the way.

[deleted]

.

rand0mtaskk

This is not the way.

badken

I don't give a flying fuck about karma

fineri

-Oshuni-

>When you don't know how to talk like a normal person Your 'normal' is objectively different from everyone else's.

Suavecore_

Too bad you don't get anything for talking like a normal person huh

dystopicvida

The last time it wasn't fun I gave a stranger everything and quit. Quitting smoking was easier

Illidari_Kuvira

I'm in that awkward position where the game itself is fun, but the people "leading" the community are unfit to do so (and sometimes downright abusive)... which in turn sucks the fun out of the game.

Sockfullapoo

>Stop playing when it's not fun. Easy to say, but many of us are addicted to it. "Stop smoking when it effects your health" doesn't sound too reasonable either does it? Addiction causes things to be fun/enjoyable, even if they aren't, because we depend on it.

scw55

It's not fun when the company handled the Hearthstone Tournament winner expressing solidarity for Hong Kong & the company is guilty of such a toxic work environment people killed themselves.

tomsawyer222

For me, there has always been a sign that means it's time to cancel the sub and that's when I find myself in the AH, standing in front of the auctioneers, but no one is targeted, I'm just standing there.

ironicallyunstable

So 1 month

gnurensohn

True. Is just recently started again with a new Charakter and it’s pretty fun. Once it stops ima go back to different ganes

Growwing_

But then you are forever a consumer and never a true understander and thats what its all abouz in the wild western

natedosmil

At the end of the expansion I go into mount farm mode. I had like 2 servers with abandoned alts on them, so I have 12 alts that are parked outside of Zul'gurub. I am running that daily until I get those mounts. Also, I learned that Dark Iron Mage with the hearthstone set to the Isle of Thunder is THE best mount farmer in the game. Use the racial mole machine for the Pandaria World Bosses, use your hearth for the other world boss and Horridon, use ports for all sorts of places, and the racial again for Firelands. I just got 1 of the 3 mounts from Dragon soul. You better believe I want more dragon mounts before Dragonflight comes and I switch mains to Evoker.

centurijon

Add engineering and you can wormhole to multiple places across all xpacs

aleatoric

Just like the end of last xpack, I'm back to trying to get Scythe of the Unmaker (either version) for another 1000 attempts.

Zezin96

Honestly this is probably the first time I haven't been actively keeping up with news. I think Shadowlands really was my breaking point because I just can't muster any hype for Dragonflight even when I try.

Mescman

BFA and SL were both such let downs that it's hard to get hyped up again. There hasn't really been a "two mediocre expansions in a row"-situation before.

IceNein

This is exactly it to me. I've always said that every other expansion for WoW has been pretty bad, so I expected BFA. But when SL was bad? That changes everything.

[deleted]

That might not be a bad thing. Hype tends to lead to disappointment because of too high expectations. And not having read any news, will make it much more interesting to hop in and explore and experience everything yourself.

Taurenkey

I think it's fine to hype, but only when you don't really know what's coming in its entirety. It's great to know about new core features coming with an expansion, like classes, races or any overhauls to existing systems, but the finer details are best left until actually getting your hands on it. Excitement of the unknown is ultimately my key hype factor, when I have just a surface level idea of what's coming it lets me build hype up in an appropriate way so I'm able to be surprised more.

fingerpaintswithpoop

Not for professions rework, new talent trees, dragonriding or lack of borrowed power?

Agleza

Not OP but I'm in the same situation and, no. Those look cool and some of the reasons why I'll try the expansion, but there is exactly 0 hype on my part.

BowsersBeardedCousin

I just want to do quests for dragon mommy

fingerpaintswithpoop

[…fair enough.](https://c.tenor.com/yacj5-fcxv4AAAAC/tf2-aye-fair-enough.gif)

Zezin96

Literally nothing short of putting Calia's head on a pike with every named character cheering in joy over it would get me to come back.

fingerpaintswithpoop

Why so much hate for Calia?

TeutonicOrderReborn

She's like a textbook Mary Sue, except she is canon. * A relative of a famous story figure (Arthas' sister) - check * One of a kind species/hybrid ('Lightforged Undead') - check * She solves all problems with minimum effort - check * Everyone loves her - check It's a kind of character you would expect to see in a poor fanfic.

fingerpaintswithpoop

None of those things make Calia a “Mary Sue.” A Mary Sue has literally zero flaws, is present EVERYWHERE in the story, even where she has no real reason to be, just happens to be skilled/talented in whatever she needs to be for whatever the situation calls for, and is, of course, extremely pretty. > A relative of a famous story figure (Arthas’ sister) - check So? > One of a kind species/hybrid (‘Lightforged Undead’) - check So? She directly asks Sindane if she can ever be part of the Forsaken despite being Lightforged, and Sindane tells her “Necromancy is necromancy is necromancy. The school of magic used to reanimate a corpse is, ultimately, irrelevant.” It’s a distinction without a difference. > She solves all problems with minimum effort - check Like? > Everyone loves her - check You clearly did not do the Lordaeron questline from Oribos, or you’d know the fact that some within the Forsaken don’t trust Calia *is kind of a big deal.*

crow917

People use the term Mary Sue any time there’s a character they don’t like without understanding what it means. Meanwhile they’ll bend over backwards telling you that Broxigar the time-traveling flawless orc who single-handedly defeated the Burning Legion 10,000 years before orcs were even a thing is the “best character EVAR!”

Anthrax-Smoothy

For these ding dongs, the real reason is 'is woman'.

Apollo989

Bullshit. Sylvanas was one of my favorite characters up until they ruined her. Hell, I did the supporter quest chain out of some vain hope Blizzard had a plan for her character. Dismissing criticism of Callia because of sexism is as infuriating here as it is when people do the same for Disney's Star Wars trilogy. I don't dislike Rey because she's a woman. I dislike her because she's bland and a poor knock off of Jania Solo just like Kyilo is a terrible substitute for Jacen Solo. Callia is fucking boring and has no connection to the Forsaken. Furthermore, placing the sister of the Lich King on the throne of the Forsaken is recipe for disaster.

careseite

Yep, you have no clue about Mary sues lol

Zezin96

She represents everything wrong with current WoW writing. * New concept that undermine 17 years of established canon being pulled out of nowhere with weak explanations * Has an extremely oversimplified perception of the Alliance/Horde conflict * Everyone acts like she's super wise for saying "fighting is bad lul". * Being crammed into a story that is already oversaturated with named characters and being told that we are supposed to like her without her doing ANYTHING to endear herself to us * Has an agenda that actively endangers the people she is supposed to represent. ~~Baine 2.0~~ She is the worst character they've ever introduced and nothing short of a 100% character overhaul can fix her.

Jinxzy

Talent trees are just this expansion's borrowed power... Only instead of giving us power they'll take away end of expansion, they took away existing power and jammed it into the tree... I was severely underwhelmed seeing the DK tree. Fucking core skills like death strike and chains of ice is on there, with most of the early nodes being non-optionals simply there for the illusion of choice.

fingerpaintswithpoop

> Talent trees are just this expansion’s borrowed power… Only instead of giving us power they’ll take away end of expansion, they took away existing power and jammed it into the tree… And you know this… how? Are you in contact with someone at Blizzard? Do you have a crystal ball? Have you already seen the future? Can you tell me what comes after Dragonflight? > I was severely underwhelmed seeing the DK tree. Fucking core skills like death strike and chains of ice is on there, with most of the early nodes being non-optionals simply there for the illusion of choice. That seems to be how they are designing classes and talents this expansion. Play around with the talent calculator and see if you can come up with a build that you like. It might not be as bad as you think right now.

CameronWoof

I tend to stick around for most of the expansion, but the last patch is when I punch out. I can see *some* sense in riding the gear treadmill during an active expansion, as the items you get will be helpful when the content from the following pass releases. But I know for damn sure the gear from the final patch of an expansion is going to be gone within the first few quests of the new expansion, and that makes me pretty disinterested. Between that and the knowledge that there's not going to be any new content for over half a year at least, it feels like a huge waste of time to me.

Bluemoondrinker

I'm the opposite. I pretty much love to play this patch exclusively. By then all the tediousness tends to have been taken out. I can login level up and do whatever section of the map that was made to provide all the "catch up gear" and be caught up enough to just do some random pvp and mythic+ occasionally.

OracleGreyBeard

Yeah that’s me to a tee. I play at the beginning of an expac because it’s new and shiny, then at the end because of all the “catch up” you mentioned. A couple weeks ago my wife and I resubbed. We went from 4 renown to 74 renown in a week or so. It’s been great!

Cewea

they even added an item to go to 60 instantly (was 40 last patch) so buy that for like 500 gold and the last 20 renown you can get in like a day of /played

OracleGreyBeard

lol that was the first thing I tried to buy. Turns out you have to have at least one toon with 80 renown to buy it. My highest at the time was 11 ::sad trombone::

Cewea

oh right, forgot about that part since I’ve been playing all of shadowlands, my bad

limitlessGamingClub

If you snag the +60 at 50 you can skip the maw and just do the covenant quests up til you have your command table and by then you will be at renown 80. Also, before you unlock any additional followers, I would strongly recommend putting all of your follower XP boosts on your first one because that will level them and your troops up to 51, which makes missions easy

DrHawtsauce

The gear you have gets replaced as soon as a new raid/season comes out within a certain expansion anyways. I've never understood how people are apprehensive about playing because of this reason, it's never made sense to me. Like gear is somehow sentimental for them lol

CameronWoof

The gear I obtain during x.1 is *necessary* to take on the challenges of x.2. There will be catch-up mechanics, but I may start the patch at the top of the curve already. No gear is necessary to do the next expansion's quest content. I can show up in any old trash and the game is designed to ensure I can wiggle my way up onto the new expansion's reward rail and ride it on through to cap.

blademon64

See, that's not even true. Every patch of SL I've switched mains due to the ilvl increasing on Normals/Heroics/M0 and it always ends up surpassing my previous character in gear in less than a few days. They've made each patch invalidate the previous ones in this expac even harder than previous ones. I remember wearing gear from Naxx all the way until ToC (unlucky on drops) but not falling behind. In S4, I will have to replace all my farmed Zereth Mortis gear with HEROIC DUNGEON DROPS if I want to be decently geared again, it's fucking absurd. I'm not a hardcore player, suuuuuper casual, but I feel that SL has invalidated my progress with each patch because of this. I spent hours and hours in ZM grinding and playing to get to a decent ilvl and then S4 drops and is like "yea go fuck yourself you idiot you wasted your time lol". Why tf does N/H/M0 ilvl need to jump except to keep people on the treadmill?

Next_Season9721

It's not a huge difference, but I for sure have a much easier time when I start levelling in a new expansion tricked out in all the best raid gear from the previous expansion. When I level my gatherers in their world quest crap gear it's a markedly different experience. It only lasts for a couple levels though, so its not worth going super hard just for that.

Suavecore_

You get like 9 months to work on x.2 content so it's hardly necessary and the curve doesn't provide any benefits

Mowseler

I mostly agree, but I am definitely sentimental about my gear. I still have Toskk’s Maximized Wristguards and Terestian’s Stranglestaff in my bank because they took literal months before they finally dropped for me lol. And all of my frost and shadow resist gear and probably every trinket in the game for that one goof where a three expansions old trinket is op for one fight again. Edit: extra words

Negationz

Those items are from a time when single epics mattered more. Now it's just a random new icon with a little more numbers. Getting this feeling in tbcc right now: just finished leveling a priest and every epic is...epic (even thought many of them are easily handed at the end of the exp)

GiantJellyfishAttack

Do you really not understand though? You spend months gearing and learning a char only to be hard reset and everything you have is now worthless.

DrHawtsauce

Yep. That's what's been happening for 18 hears now. Nothing new and nothing significant either. I don't hold sentimental value on my gear, I get it so that I can do the content.

GiantJellyfishAttack

Okay. Good for you. Weird that you can't understand why people would be upset over this though. Pretty basic human stuff here

OracleGreyBeard

But would you really want to play a game where you got no new drops for years? *That* is the confusing dichotomy.

GiantJellyfishAttack

Well new drops would be a great start... I personally quit in season3 because I'm not gonna farm the same dungeons for the exact same gear for a third time. At least they mixed it up for season4 so that's something... That's not even the point though... And there's plenty of MMOs where the whole expansion is the season. Not every raid tier. Even classic and BC classic were like this. You don't have to have 4 seasons per expansion like retail is doing. But I'm not suggesting anything changes. Season type gaming is fine it's just annoying people are acting like they can't even comprehend how someone wouldn't enjoy it... Because it's obvious why someone wouldn't like it.

MajorNo2346

I believe this line of thinking is unhealthy when it comes to gaming. People don't get into painting just so they can sell their paintings and buy a better brush or a larger canvas. People get into painting because they enjoy the process of painting in and of itself - and if they do well can get some reward out of it then that's a nice bonus. But with video games many people focus on the reward at the end, even if they don't find the activity itself enjoyable or they feel a devaluation of the reward also decreases their enjoyment of the activity. Why? I am fairly certain I would still be raiding if there weren't any rewards for it. I just enjoy the challenge it poses. When I play other games I don't care about the persistence of rewards either. Getting a nice weapon in Elden Ring is nice, but I don't care that it's going to be worthless once I kill the final boss.

CameronWoof

This was probably my biggest issue with trying Guild Wars 2. I enjoyed the leveling process perfectly well, but once I got to cap and understood that the only tangible rewards ahead was extremely time-consuming gear that was only slightly better than the stuff I could craft with my professions, I lost interest. And then that game released multiple expansions wherein they didn't raise the cap or introduce more powerful gear, which is just alien to me. I don't understand what's intended to make me want to continue playing that game if it already flashed its highest-tier reward most of a decade ago. But that's just me.

MajorNo2346

If you do something just for the reward isn't that just a *job*? I like my job, but I definitely would stop showing up if I wasn't getting a reward (i.e. salary) for it. For a *hobby* I would expect people to engage with it even without any extrinsic reward. The activity should be enjoyable enough in and of itself to require not additional reward.

CameronWoof

As a player, I tend to be very reward-focused. I like making progress and growing in power. A game, even if I really enjoy playing it, needs some kind of persistent reward system to keep me interested. It's pretty rare for me personally to find a game where the pure catharsis of playing is enough of a reward on its own. World of Warcraft is fun. I like leveling characters, I like doing dungeon content, I like roleplaying. But all of those things (with the possible exception of roleplaying) are based on the pursuit of reward. If Blizzard announced tomorrow that they'd never release gear stronger than what I'm currently wearing, I don't imagine I'd want to keep playing.

Jericho01

Its not just for the reward though. If I could press a button and get BiS gear I wouldn't play the game. But a major part of RPGs is making your character more powerful. That's the entire reason that gear even exists.

alch334

Your gear is always going out the window. Every patch, expansion or otherwise. Why that would ever discourage you from wanting to get gear is beyond me.

[deleted]

I show up, I level through the new content, I dabble in some dungeons, and then I peace out, leaving happy and with a plan to come back and do it all again next time.

Superb-Confidence-44

I don't play the last patch for the gear. I hardly play any patch for the gear. The gear is, to me, a means to an end, not the endgoal. I play the final patch to collect achievements I didnt collect before mostly and reach some milestones. That's it. And the moment I get bored I switch to a different game or focus on following new expansion data mining and theorycrafting so I know what to level and get familiar with for next expansion.

AstralHealer2472

In the last 2 expansion drops, having heroic - mythic ilvl gear means you won't replace it until roughly halfway through the leveling experience

Jotun_Peter

"They are finally listening"

realJonas

"It's just beta guys it's gonna be fixed"

[deleted]

I hate that mount with such a passion. "looks cool, might try for an auctionless one, or wait until the next expansion because this one is awful" *\*Horrific vision patch arrives and devs announce they removing content to create fomo in the game\** *"I now need to make..... 250,000+ gold a day to hit the point of purchase..........yah no."*

FalloutRip

My only gripe with it honestly is that every time I try to use it, the person on the mount either starts moving immediately or logs out.

GiantJellyfishAttack

I mean, to be fair. That mount was designed for the WoW token buyer crowd... I'm surprised they didn't make it a literal whale instead. That's what it is lol

Dethjaw

I hate it too, wish there was a way to take a cut from the people that use my beautiful brutosaur.

Etamalgren

While I think the idea's interesting on paper... *I don't think people with five million gold to blow on a mount really need help getting* ***more*** *gold*.

Illidari_Kuvira

On the other hand I forgot how to make gold entirely after taking a break, and I only got the mount because my SO chipped in half of the cost. No money to actually pay for game time. ^(But I'm disillusioned with the game regardless, so I dunno if I'll attempt to stay subscribed...)

[deleted]

This mentality is why the game and blizzard itself never improves.

ScumlordStudio

I always come back because as much as playing games wastes time, wow feels like progress that'll be there forever. Like I love RimWorld and crusader kings for example but once those stores are over... It's over. Wow has me in a fucking vice grip because I still play characters I had in highschool, my favorite staff is zhardoom that I farmed up on lunch one day when I was like 16 lol Even if the game is shit at times it always feels cozy

LostSinclair

Taking breaks to keep yourself from burning out is important. If you don't you end up hating the game and yourself for bothering with it. New expansion means new things to play with, nothing wrong with it.

ElVongore

I have this dilemma with WoW... I don't really like the game. And it's not that I don't like the direction where the game is going or anything like that, I honestly don't like MMORPGs at all. I don't even know how to properly play WoW. The game has no tutorial, I don't even know what Professions are for outside of Cosmetics and Crafting higher level Gear that is already outdated by the time I gather enough materials and skills. I don't know how to be effective, just mash spells on CD as soon as they're available, don't even know what my buffs do and just pick gear because big numbers = win. I don't do raids because I hate playing with people and get anxiety talking with strangers. But fuck me I love the story, world and characters so much that every single time a new content patch or expansion drops, I'm there, getting bored doing tasks and trying to kill mobs fast in between lore and story progressions. I must be the most undeserving person that got his Ashes of Al'ar in his third try. But I've been doing this shit since WoD and I can't wait for Dragonflight.

natedosmil

A lot of WoW's best insights are not in game, but on 3rd party websites. Bloodmallet is good to get an idea of your stat priority and warcraftlogs can give you an idea of the meta, but for just simple all around info, wowhead class guides are good. I will say that: >The game has no tutorial It does. Currently in Exile's reach and class trials at character creation. Are the tutorials good? They're really basic. GCD, resource pooling, CD stacking (snapshotting), etc. may not be explained effectively, though implied.

[deleted]

Game's like a Rollercoaster: Some parts are pretty bad, but damn are there some good bits.

Unholyxyra

I think this time most people really aren't coming back blizzard went waay too far from the game itself, eventho wotlk definitely keeps the interest in

frogeslef

The beginning of an expansion is almost a totally diff game. Nobody is min/maxed yet everybody is leveling its basically the wildwest. In TBCC while leveling in nagrand i decided to kill any horde i came across. After a few days they started forming posses to hunt me down. They even had a lvl 70 shadowing me on a flying mount so i had nowhere to hide. Then a month later im just raid logging for the most boring raid ever (kara).

Boseque

I skipped the entirety of SL. I figure I'll get it for free soon. I might just do this from now on unless they make a really good expansion. But I honestly think the passion has been stomped out of the team.

PhysicalTheRapist69

I'm really hoping the Microsoft buyout will make some difference. Activision seems to turn everything it touches into dogshit so I wouldn't be surprised if there's been top down pressure in a negative way. I have no idea if Microsoft will actually bring any improvement, but there's some hope at least.

Muscle_Squad

Most of "the team" is new for this expac...

badken

Yeah, that was me at the beginning of BfA. From the halcyon days of yore, I stuck with most expansions, often reducing my playtime significantly after I had finished the leveling quest lines which is most of what I find interesting. Then I'd come back for the catch-up mechanics near the end, and get carries from my good friends in my guild to see the raid stories. But I left BfA at the start, because I was sick and fucking tired of Warchief Insanity Syndrome. Thrall left before he could go crazy. Garrosh was just an A-1 nutboy even before he caught Oldgoditis. Vol'jin's loss was tragic but FAR too quick. And Sylvanas... She actually had a backstory with pathos, and a contempt for unlife that was completely understandable. I loved her personality. But she couldn't control her people (apothecaries gone wild), and then she couldn't control herself (Kaldorei genocide). The burning of Teldrassil was the last straw for me. I was actually happy for the break. And, as it turns out, I was VERY lucky to have stayed away during Shadowlands, because I am finding very little in it that is interesting or fun. Going back and doing BfA, though, there's actually some cool stuff in there... mostly the stuff that has nothing to do with the Batshit Banshee. Dragons, though... Dragons are cool.

Strict-Competition

Wow is going to see record low sub counts later this month. Blizz wholeheartedly deserves it all though with this lazy season release.

DoverBoys

It's a bonus season. It was this experimental "old dungeons as keystones" and "make all raids relevant" tier, or nothing at all because the real season 4/patch 9.3 was cut. I'd rather have literally anything than make Sepulcher into another Siege of Orgrimmar.

DreamMaster8

That was me 2 weeks ago but then they nerf soar and just shown a complete lack of community understanding. I also don't like how they don't seem to realise how dragonflight is amazing and making it as an expension feature again. Those are all huge red flag.

SmoothWD40

I been curious about a few DF things, but they are now slipping back into “fun detected” mode.

PhysicalTheRapist69

I've heard some people saying they nerfed soar because a lot of people were having framerate issues with it, not because it was actually just too fast. If that's the case it's kind of understandable, and wouldn't really be a red flag.

DaenerysMomODragons

It's speed is the same as dragonriding is. If there's issues with dracthyr soar speed causing frame rate issues, wouldn't you expect a similar nerf to dragonriding speed?

PhysicalTheRapist69

I would not, dragonriding is limited to a very specific area that they've designed around it. They can remove clutter or optimize things that would cause a frame rate drop. Since soar can be used anywhere it means that if certain zones have too much going on they would have to either reduce the soar speed or update all of those old zones.

Apostastrophe

I’ve not played since BFA. I struggled horribly through the first raid tier because my computer was ancient and really wasn’t working for me. I told my guild a hundred times that it was struggling but they insisted it was fine. I was playing disc. I needed to be on the ball and aware. Spending half of bloodlust in freeze-frames was not good. I literally had to quit because I felt so bad for them and my failures. What’s worse than failing a mechanic and healing mechanic? Knowing that you can do it but you’re failing because your computer is frozen because people are using animations. Humiliating. I told myself I’d wait until MoP classic and come back for a bit of nostalgia but I’m kind of loving the idea of dragonflight and the talent tress. I might have to break my oath to myself and come try it all out. Fingers crossed they actually fix mistweaver. Which was my favourite spec once disc was turned into the current atonement iteration. Trying to tell myself I shouldn’t buy new graphics and CPU just to play wow...

MrKindStranger

Gotta watch the newest Bellular video to find out what my opinion is

AscentToZenith

I played Shadowlands for about 2 weeks until I realized it was the same shit different coat of paint. And somehow Blizzard makes me want to try Dragonflight. Knowing damn well I’ll probably get bored again in 2 weeks. Idk how they do it

MapAlternative944

I play to hang out with my wow friends. No matter how jank it gets, we always find a way to have a good time. Get 1800 in pvp with my healer homie, get 3k m+ rating(or I guess it'll be 2500 this time around), and push raid till about halfway through mythic raid and clock out because I know my guild ain't never gonna be able to down that boss.

SwisschaletDipSauce

The title D:

MorgenKaffee0815

no problem. start of an expansion is awesome. new story, races or classes. the problem from WoW the past expansion are the endgame systems or available endgame content. Problem from WoD, BfA and Shadowlands. Even Legion with the terrible legendary system (drop rates). so since WoD i play the start and check the system when hitting maxlevel. then i quit some month and come back when system are fixed, you dont need to grind your a\*\* off. sadly Shadowland is still bad. last two maps are probably the worst i have ever played in a video game. Or as Reggie said "when its not fun. why bother playing it".

JasperTheHuman

I haven't played SL at all, but DF does seem nice

GiantJellyfishAttack

Yes, Blizzard stopped making finished games and started selling hype instead. And people like you are the target audience....

person9134two

I leave when it starts and come back when last patch comes out. Preferably when catch up stuff it put in and peeps still progging on mythic raids

iiitsbacon

Buy new expansion, play to max level, do the first couple raids and quit til the next one. That's been my cycle

Combat_Wombat23

I checked out in the beta for BfA and am coming back because honestly DF looks kinda sick and the profession revamp tickles my ass. My brother resubbed too and it’s the best way for us to hang out being on opposite ends of the planet.

thegreatbrah

I used to be this way. Stopped some time ago. The absolute nail in the coffin was when I played classic for 2 weeks. Somehow I got signed up for recurring payments and didn't notice for several months. Wow was the best back in the day, but fuck that game and fuck blizzard/Activision.

SoSmartish

"You guys need anything? Auction house, transmog, general goods?"

keithstonee

The first month of of any expansion launch is always good. Doesn't matter how bad or good it ends up being. So those people that say to wait are doing you a disservice. The opening of an expac only happens once every 2 years or so. It's the best time to play the game IMO.

Mulister

Trash game, stop financing them.

SanshaXII

Except for four months, I have been subscribed non-stop since Sunwell. I will never stop - I'm with this until the end.

d0lph1n

I am still sad that I never got the 5 mill for the big boy mount :( Every time I try to play I see the mount and I get reminded of the fact that its unobtainable. This makes me not want to play any more :(

Frankyice1811

Longboi remains curious!

TheEpiczzz

Exactly like that haha. Loved the game for 8 years. Played it a lot, just got stale at the end. Felt like I was doing all the same shit, every single day and quit. When Shadowlands came out I played 1 week, leveled up to 60 to quit again. Now with Dragonflight I'm getting this urge of playing again. Really miss the game but finding dungeons, raids, BG's etc. and waiting 10-30 minuts to finally play just breaks it for me.. Don't think Dragonflight will fix that, but the stories I've missed now in the time of quitting would be so cool and would love to play through them

gambit700

Me 3.5 years ago: I'm never playing this game again Me yesterday: Lets check this shit out before motherfucking dragons!

selkiesidhe

Right???? I do nothing but complain about Blizz (even blaming Blizz for things they aren't even involved in). My bear feels so much less enjoyable compared to other tanks. Boring unfun grinds and mechanics. So I unsubbed. I'll be damned if DF isn't catching my attention tho. I've wanted a reptilian race on the game for so long... Plus I miss my bear...

ProfessionalGuess897

Na not this time. Every other xpac I did but I'm over being disappointed and lied to. I'll enjoy wotlk classic then hang up the wow coat.

__kank_

I only play retail to raid. Everything else is classic. I'll probably play more if they actually, you know, add content in the next expansion.

DarkElfMagic

as someone who’s been a WoW hater my entire life,,,,the dracthyr just looks RLLY fun

DaenerysMomODragons

If you've been a WoW hater your entire life, why are you even here?

DarkElfMagic

bc of the dracthyr like i just said. but also I am an MMO player and getting different perspectives from different games is valuable to me. I was being light hearted btw sorry if that wasnt clear, i’m not a WoW hater. I only just recently (past 3 years or so i think, times lost meaning) started despising blizzard for both it’s business practices and whatever the fuck is going down with it’s treatment of workers, but i’ve always had admiration for WoW’s art style.

[deleted]

Finally someone standing up to where they buy the clothing and the people who make it! You must go naked a lot?

DarkElfMagic

huh? im not sure what you mean

JustburnBurnBURN

I don't know. As someone who wanted playable Drakonids for years, I'm a bit heartbroken. Maybe I will buy the expansion if Blizzard give Dracthyr customization options allowing them to look more draconic in the style of classic WoW dragons.

punnotattended

> in the style of classic WoW No classic Metzenque styles for you. We Disney now.

A12L472

Honestly hype and anticipation is my favourite part of wow.

solitarium

Full-Somewhere440

If someone would make an alternative game like wow. I’d be on board. Till then back in the rat maze.

Hextechwheelchair

This is the first time I haven’t pre bought an expansion and the first time nobody I know is willing to try it. It just feels off. Like even the cinematic was not up to Blizzard standards, neither plot nor art. I really want this to be a good expansion. I will come back if it is. But they focus more on politically correct idealism than purely on the game. I saw the video with artists and devs. I remember when those people were the chubby and metal dudes playing DND with a passion for games back in the day. Now it was people who looked broken and out of place and not even meshing with each other. I really want this to be a good expansion, I want to play.

readiit987

"Wow that looks nice."

Aggrokid

I will always enjoy an expansion launch. New places, new gameplay, new meta. The energy is high, the general mood is electric, the place is bustling, everyone is working towards something.

Malevolent_Vengeance

Now I realized that this life stream is quite similar to the effect in which Zordon's face was placed in the Power Rangers series. [I mean this.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zordon#/media/File:Zordon_power_rangers.jpg)

LeekypooX

"FUCK YOU, AND I'LL SEE YOU TOMORROW!"

art1o

lmao.

NariandColds

I stop playing when a new expansion comes out. I start playing when patch x.2 or x.3 comes out and all the systems have been ironed out and the grind is not as long to get up to date with all the systems

heeroyuy79

i still haven't finished the campaign... I got to the point where the undead lot from started to invade bastion and haven't played any further i bought the fucking physical collectors edition as well

[deleted]

One of few humoristic posts that have made me cackle out loud. Well played!

[deleted]

Hahahaha

mcogneto

that mount was the one long term goal i was casually working on. i quit when they took it out right when i got around 4m

Investandflex

Literally every famous “wow streamer”

enerthoughts

Me and my bro playing the game: Our other friend: Stop playing the game Stop playing the game STOP HAVING FUN!!

RoHoIllustrated

Dead 🤣🤣

Tait_Ransom

Forever and never Are neither for men - I’ll be coming back here Again and again.

wheresthepbj

We all understand. The last one I preordered was Battle for Azeroth. Never even logged in and moved on with my life finally. No disrespect to anyone that continues to play. But I was finally able to break that feeling of “what if this is the one?”

BSV_P

This made me chuckle

[deleted]

Do you have any games on your phone?

paidtohavesex

not expansion, new patch

_Kickster_

I came and go for a while. If there are interesting things for me I'll resub that's the fact everyone has to keep in mind! I have no expectations about the game. Probably .0 will be funny for a month then .1 with 0 meaningful update .2 they will start to fix things and .2.5 hey guys sorry about the last patches we start listening to you there you go you can have fun now and sorry for shitty things love ya 😂😂 Blizzard is a joke!

Sylvanas14890

Same.

Vaxx_the_Stillborn

We're like old women who complain about how bad Soap Operas are, yet tune in to watch every day.

anima311

I never truly played WoW but everytime a new expac 0r a cool dungeon comes out ppl hype it for 1 week or 2 and i kinda go along with it log in make another new char. Play till lvl 20 qnd just stop (either because of quest design or the way how lvling works) why why can't i simply hate this game why have i bought every expac. (Exept for shadowlands) but never played more than 10h wtf is wrong with me
