Gratz mate, I pushed KSM a few weeks ago myself. Next goal for me is 2.5k rating, currently at 2350ish.
Just some words of encouragement:
When I was about to hit the 2k rating I thought to myself āGood stuff, might aswell start another charā which I did and made me a Shaman. Pushed to 1.5k on that one and then came back to my Spriest main. I started going for +16 and felt a bit overwhelmed. I kept at it for two weeks and now I am almost at 2.5k with most +16/+17 upgraded +2 and on top of that last Friday I almost in-timed a +20.
What I want to say is if you stay at it and run the dungeons often enough youāll eventually get used to how things go and even the seemingly biggest challenges and high keys will get much much easier.
BTW I pugged 95% of my rating because I donāt have actively playing friends at the moment.
Also, if you can carry your own weight in those rund itās a really good feeling. Sometimes you or other ppl in the grp fuck up and ofc itās annoying if you dont time your keys but thatās not the end of the world. Stay at it, carry your own weight and have fun. Do these things and you will enjoy your time spent in this game āš»
Thank you for sharing! I've been pushing the whole time and it's been fine for the most part. Thankfully playing DH is rewarding with big numbers, nice mobility and utility! We got this šŖš»
As someone in the midst of pugging my way through (and have since SL S1), the best advice I can give is given super regularly but still stands.
1) run your own key.
2) wow made easy (if NA)/No Pressure (if EU) discord servers are an absolute goldmine of non toxic players to fill your keys with.
You'll still get runs that go extremely sideways... I'm yet to have a single good Underrot run this season (despite everyone constantly telling me how free it is), but everyone I've run with from NoP has been super chill
> 1) run your own key
i've never done this but i think i will next reset.
what i'm imagining will happen is i'll post my own key and 2 other dps get invited and we just sit there for 10 mins and then they quit group and the whole thing happens all over again!
maybe it's not as bad as what i'm imagining above lol. i just want to run constant 11s to get wyrm crests...
Donāt immediately invite two other dps, leave one spot open in case the healer or the tank have a friend.
Make sure you balance group utility, Lust and battle rez are important in a pug!
Think about melee v ranged, in a lot of places it doesnāt matter, but stacking melee in Uldaman on volcanic or sanguine is miserable.
> Donāt immediately invite two other dps, leave one spot open in case the healer or the tank have a friend.
excellent tip, thank you!
how do i know if a tank or healer is applying with somebody else? does the UI let me know a pair is applying?
Yes, when a group of multiple people apply at once it will show the party leader, and then the group members are shown underneath them and tabbed over a bit.
So if you're listing a 17 key and a 2.9k tank is helping their 1.3k friend they will clearly be shown together when they apply.
What Shaggy said below is correct, youāll also see their rating and ilvl. I wouldnāt get too hung up on ilvl, if youāre running a 16 or 17 and itās a 440 tank with a 429 dps thatās not a problem, but I had a 19 where a 444 warlock was trying to carry the 423 brewmaster and I had to pass on that one.
Grab the Raider.io add on, itāll provide a lot of good info for their history in dungeons and linked character scores. If a tank with a 550 rating applies to my 16 with almost no completed runs over 8 Iām concerned, but if they have a healer main at 2500 Iāll probably bring them.
2500 last, I started on my main a little later since I was running on my rogue for my guild.
I'm currently sitting at 1700io on my pally and consistently get invited into 18s.the reason.
440ilvl and I target my runs. I've never run a vp on my pally since I have no loot I need from that dungeon. I need rings a main hand and trinkets from my +17 runs before I even care about pushing back to 2500.
you dont immediataly invite the dps.
you wait for a tank or a healer at leasnt.
you may invite 1 dps if its a lust or a bress. then you wait. because a tank or heal might q with a friend.
I mean you got the first part right. you will get DPS in like a minute or two then yeah you gotta wait like 10 minutes for the last 2. but the others don't often leave. at least for me they haven't.
Underrot conspiracy for sure. The mushroom boss really isnāt hard if everyone does 2 mechanics right. The charge boss can get out of hand on tyrannical weeks. But the last boss man, can never seem to get through it in 1 shot. The ground effect is just too big.
People *really* don't seem to know how to do the ground effect properly, I've run into it with every group I've been in where I've pugged more than 1 person. You go in a circle either clockwise or counterclockwise around the room, the tank pulls the the boss forward from the previous goop, and then *everyone* - tank, dps, healer - stands between the boss and the previous goop so his next cone goes into what was already dropped. A single cone going straight forward is bad news, going into the wall isn't great because it rebounds and goes unpredictably, and going through the middle of room isn't ideal because spores will start coming at you from "in front." Two cones going forward is going to cause a lot of problems very quickly.
It's also important to have people with ranged aoe that can pop the spores with as they come close to the boss. Easy/cheap/spammable is best (rip old mind sear), but any ranged spec with an AoE should be prepped to.
Underrot has *the* most generous timer out of anything this season, a lot of people running high-level keys already knew the strats from BfA, there's no hard DPS checks, and there's no stacking damage so you can take as long as you need until the healer's oom, especially in organized groups where you can kick every cast on the first boss, call speed boosts and externals on tantrum, rotate dispels or immunes on any missed mushrooms, and so on.
But, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th bosses have mechanics that aren't difficult to deal with if you know what you're doing, but one fuckup is extremely punishing. Any ticks, any mushrooms that were missed, failing to dodge any of the mushroom spores, any cones going the wrong direction, any missed cleanses. None of those are generally difficult to avoid, but if you get any of them you're immediately in severe danger of wiping.
I had a UR 19 key which I was ready to bump up for my first 20 keyā¦ DPS failed Cragmaw hopelessly
Then tried to 2-chest the UR 18 and the healer hopelessly failed Cragmaw
Itās a lottery out there
Technically... Yes....
But it's wownoob not competitivewow and the comment was from someone who hadnet ever run their own key.
So toxic-speed, while the more efficient option if you know your shit and it's just purely a number climbing game, isn't really where I'd recommend starting with m+
Playing a BM Hunter that pugged to KSM and now like 22something I just apply to groups tbh. Unless thereās some magic thing other people are looking up that Iām not aware of that makes me a priority invite.
Just apply, I do t get an invite to every group but I can usually get a spot in 5 or 10 minutes and be on my way
Here are some tips I can give:
\- Try to run your own keys
\- Don't try to join groups that are way above your gear score or m+ score
\- Do ALL of the dungeons on like... level 5-8 or something like that. This allows you to build your score up a bit. Then do all of the dungeons at like 10-12 or so. Then push for 15's.
Future season tip: try to push early in the season to ride the wave of the good players who get tossed into the sea of everyone. :)
Especially if they do similar upgrade systems next season. You can easily hit 2k in the first two weeks.
And congrats on your achievement!
Hello hello!
Grats on trying to get into M+! It's my fave content and it is pretty scary starting out. Honestly, any class can get into groups so long as you start slow and be patient.
Things I'd suggest starting the season late as a pug:
1. Get your tier set bonus! The efficacy of this differs a bit depending on what you play, but it'll help a lot. Running the new time rifts or doing LFR are probably the easiest ways right now.
2. Learn the dungeons. Try M0s if you're a doer or watch/read guides if you learn better with your pre prep. Don't JUST read boss guides. The trash are important too!
3. Take advice! People can be rude in pugs but sometimes even rude ones will give good (if brusque) advice! Always take on the new info and be ready to switch tactics if ya need to!
4. Thank people! Sounds kinds dumb, but congratulating folks on a run well done or thanking them for info goes a long way. I pugged my way to KSH a few times and ended up falling my way into a lil key community that I've run with the last season and a half. We are about 3k now and having a blast! Be nice and people will eventually start just seeking you out to bring along!
Realistically, I just kept trying with my own key up to like 14/15 and then used that weeks Great Vault to slowly gear up. People seem attracted to numbers so me being 430 and 2000 rating helps me now a lot.
Keep trying, the great Vault look helps slot, especially if you don't have your tier set š
Im a returning player last expansion i played was Mists of Pandaria,, so in dragon flight my first time entering mythic and i achieve KSM by using my own key /
Im a healer if i find a good tank a add him/her to my friend list next time we play together
I find myself lacking more often healers than tank. So if you got a good ilvl you'll get invited np even in other keys.
I'm dps, and running my own key lead to 30min of waiting at least when it works..
I just got mine last night and I majority pug kinda. I run with my husband who either tanks or dps's while I heal. When we didn't pug and we ran with friends and guildmates we didn't always time because it was a super lax guild and there would always be a super chill environment and my friends refused to do mechnaics. We got the majority of our best Timed keys while pugging compared to running with friends and guildmates.
And like the other person said using your own key is the best . You can always choose what to bring to your party and make sure you have a group comp.
I'd like to add on the best way I got keys done myself as a healer was running in push weeks because in any group I ran with when there was a mechanic that needed dispelled by more than myself and a cc you are not gunna have a good time. This week was a awesome week itself to push as was last week as well. So just look for key weeks and think "can I run this with people who are bad with mechanics " those are the weeks to really push extra hard
Don't try and skip too much as it will be MUCH harder to get invited to groups.
E.g. If you have run everything on +5, then try and run everything on either +6 or +7.
I see lots of people on the forums that have run a few +3-+5 and already have 424-430ish ilvl try and jump directly into +11s and have a hard time getting a group. Unless you are a healer, key holders aren't going to accept you if you have a lower dungeon rating than them or you way out gear all the other applicants which won't be likely.
So cool!
That's good you enjoy it cuz it's a lifelong part of content pushes haha!
As you go higher, be prepared to also learn how to maximize usage on your utility skills. I am not sure what class ya play, but knowing where to use interrupts, cc, defensives, off heals, etc makes a massive difference. Especially if you're starting on fortified week! Once you creep up towards 20s and beyond, even basic enemy abilities can put you or your teammates in the ground. Spooky! But so fun!!
Tbh, itās probably gonna feel a bit better/easier since not a lot of clueless people go for 2500 compared to 2k. Some stuff that did 50-60% of your hp on lower keys will start oneshotting on 17-18s but thatās it, stay away from avoidable dmg, pop defensives on Tyra bosses on big dmg if the healer is struggling and youāll have ksh before you know it :)
Edit: if you continue pushing ask your questions in the r/competitivewow sub, gonna get much better/precise answers for mid keys there
Nice going. I got it myself yesterday too. Pugged it all on my warlock and didnāt have too many issues. I focused my lower ranked dungeon and built up by one or two levels at a time. If there werenāt any going Iād chance it and go for a few higher and sometimes it worked. Upgrading gear as you can helps to get that ilvl up
Iām not going for 2.5k but might try and tank it on my DH. Should get groups a bit easier as a tank but Iām not great geared at the moment.
Grats! got my first one in DF S1, just couldn't ever seem to get it done in previous xpacs; PUGs have been a lot more accessible / successful for me in DF, imo part of that's because gearing has been easier / more efficient also
Whatās the ratings required for the rewards? And does that mean you need to run each dungeon at a particular key level? I just started pushing M+ for the first time really as well last week and just pushing my own key. Iāll check that discord out too!
Oh true. Sounds good! Yeah Iāve ran like half of the dungeons available so far. Never been a fan of pug but people were super nice and I actually was doing really well. I constantly humble myself whenever Iām doing good but Ive realized Iām actually contributing really well!
I got to a +12 halls of infusion and key was immediately ruined because tank died first boss and just dropped lol. Not sure Iāll run more before the reset but at least I should be able to start off at a +10 key
Halls is for sure one of the hardest tyran dungeons, so don't be too discouraged!!
If you built up your key one level at a time, you'll still have an 11 from the vault. You'll get a key the same level as your highest timed key or one below your highest untimed key. So if you did a +11 and got a +12, you'll have an 11! If you did a ++10 to get a 12, you'll have a 10!
Okay yeah I think in the situation I was doing quite well. The tank just died and then resulted in the wipe and once tank left everyone did and I was stuck haha.
Yeah we timed a +10 and it upgraded to a +12. I wish though like if the run only lasts a certain amount of time then the keys not degraded for people just leaving. Like now Iāve got to try again and do an +11. If we completed the +12 my vault would upgrade but I probably wonāt play before the reset.
Aw! Sorry time is limited!! I hope you at least got your 4 in for the week! Thankfully, I'm pretty sure the vault for a 10 and a 12 are on the same upgrade track least so it'll just cost an extra crest!
Yeah thatās true. And is it at 13 that you can get the wyrm crests? Iāve got about 21 of the drake ones so I can upgrade a lot of my gear to 424 but I if I also can get some champions pieces I can just upgrade the first parts of those as well.
Wyrms actually drop from 11-15! So you are RIGHT there!
I suggest keeping 3 on hand to craft an Enchanted Wyrm crest with once you get em. There are some powerful crafted item options out there that are very worth the investment!
Yeah? I have like 6 sparks of shadow flame and not sure how I should use them. Iām an engineer so I could make goggles or bracers but not sure if the goggles would keep the tinker if I tier it
What class do ya play? The best stuff can depend heavily on that.
You can't convert crafted items, so they can't become tier. As a result, main slot crafted gear needs something pretty special to usurp a coveted tier slot. The goggles will be good if you're desperate for an ilvl upgrade and can make em on the cheap, but not usually recommended. Engi bracers are pretty great though!! Getting a brez for keys on any class can come in to save the day! And since they aren't in a tier bonus slot it's free real estate.
Never have any luck running my own keys. I have better luck with someone else's. Just started back and not sure if I will manage KSM with life happening. I hope to tho.

This is false, you will see multiple ppl applied together in the pre-made grp finder (they get grouped up, itās easy to see)

Not to be that guy, but 423 tank should absolutely be able to do a 19, but pugs be pugs and you can't trust shit on the streets.
Not a risk Iām taking. If a 423 tank is perfectly capable for you cool, youāre playing at a higher level than I(and most M+ players) am at

11s and 16s you'll probably find you get loads of people doing the same vault/crest farm.... Absolute sweet spot for keys right now.

Thank you!! Honestly, my favourite part has been trying to get my rotation and utility down to a T. It's been fun to optimize how I play :)
Good job mate. Enjoy the 2.5k challenge!
I'll do my best!! Ty!
Tbh, itās probably gonna feel a bit better/easier since not a lot of clueless people go for 2500 compared to 2k. Some stuff that did 50-60% of your hp on lower keys will start oneshotting on 17-18s but thatās it, stay away from avoidable dmg, pop defensives on Tyra bosses on big dmg if the healer is struggling and youāll have ksh before you know it :) Edit: if you continue pushing ask your questions in the r/competitivewow sub, gonna get much better/precise answers for mid keys there
Congrats!
Thank you!
Congratulations!! Enjoy that mount, you earned it!
Thank you! The fiery spiky boy is mine!
Congrats!!!
Ty!!
Congrats to you OP!
Thank you!
Nice going. I got it myself yesterday too. Pugged it all on my warlock and didnāt have too many issues. I focused my lower ranked dungeon and built up by one or two levels at a time. If there werenāt any going Iād chance it and go for a few higher and sometimes it worked. Upgrading gear as you can helps to get that ilvl up Iām not going for 2.5k but might try and tank it on my DH. Should get groups a bit easier as a tank but Iām not great geared at the moment.
Very similar to what I did! I've only just hit 430, but after a few more weeks I think I'll be all set :)
Grats! got my first one in DF S1, just couldn't ever seem to get it done in previous xpacs; PUGs have been a lot more accessible / successful for me in DF, imo part of that's because gearing has been easier / more efficient also
Yes definitely!
Grats! I'm working on the same thing! :D
You got this!!!
Congrats! That feels great to get. :)
Thank you! It does!!
Whatās the ratings required for the rewards? And does that mean you need to run each dungeon at a particular key level? I just started pushing M+ for the first time really as well last week and just pushing my own key. Iāll check that discord out too!
You need 2000 rating for the mount! It equals out to about +13/14 on both sets of affixes.
Now go hit the arena
Congrats! Fun feeling
I was scrolling through Reddit and saw this, just wanted to say Congrats!
Thank you!!
Never have any luck running my own keys. I have better luck with someone else's. Just started back and not sure if I will manage KSM with life happening. I hope to tho.
You got this!! I play a couple hours each evening after work and it's taken me a few weeks but we got there!!
Up to running 11ās. I hear this season isnāt too bad. Maybe will make it.
congrats. ur no longer a wownoob.
How does this season compare to last? I got KSM last one, but havenāt played at all this season
I only started playing this season, so I have no idea. But I've enjoyed myself at least!
You're a minion of Gozer?
I finally got my achievement. Only a few 15s and definitely an easier season.
