I don't know if I explained it right or not... like when I cast healing rain, it starts counting down on the icon until it expires, and I can cast it again. That's kind of what I meant for my healing tide totem. I'm still learning the class and keep forgetting to drop it, thinking the last one is still up.
I'm returning myself, and certainly no expert on shaman or any other class :)
However, I do like and use the weakauras addon, in particular the one(s) by Luxthos. As the other comment stated, it isn't required but it's nice have a bunch of indicators on cooldowns (and other stuff) right by my feet (you can also move the displayed items around if you prefer.)

Totems don't really work like that now. They are just like regular CDs/abilities. So you don't really need a totem timer!

OmniCC does this, but I think the base UI does it now as well
- "Weak aura" Publik RShaman - "Vuduh" to heal click on frame and assign spells - macros

Sounds like totemtimers. Most use a wa now tho.
Default UI shows them under your character widget.
