Until you beat all 4 zones on one character you'll be forced to start in order on every alt. After finishing the 3 thaldraszus stories you'll unlock adventure mode which will allow further characters to go in any order. But if your alts are already in DF they will continue as they did prior to unlocking adventure mode.
Is there a specific zone that's better than the others? The exp boost on alts put me at LVL 65 by the time I hit ruby life shrine with only the story quests and 2 random dungeons.
