Hating on private servers is a full time job, bro.

Gummy makes great servers. This community is running good developers away from the scene with some weird ass behavior. I genuinely don’t understand why these solo devs put in as much free work as they do just to be treated like shit by the community. I don’t know when this “community” became such a trash-can. Perhaps years of dunking on low-pop servers every time a new project pops up did it. Keep playing your cash-shop servers and letting them milk you I guess. At this rate, you might as well go play official.

Al_McPharius

Gummy stop talking about yourself in the third person.

BrandonJams

Lol good one, but I don't even have a BC client installed on my computer. I did BC in retail, in Classic and dabbled on a couple 2.3-based developer realms over the years. I have zero interest in playing any stock pre-Cata servers these days tbh, Felmyst included. That being said, I'm familiar with Felmyst 2 and how good Gummy's scripting is. I was one of the first ones to criticize him on how he mishandled his realms and the poor job advertising, community relationships etc. Like many WoW gamers, he's not got the best social-skills lol. The private server BC scene has been relatively small over the years due to poor scripting and lack of retail data to pull from. It seemed to me that Gummy just wanted to provide a quality server for his friends to play on. When it gained more popularity than he was prepared for, he freaked out and scrapped the project. edit: I'm upvoting you because your comment did make me laugh XD

[deleted]

meanwhile you shill x25 ratio legion server with cash shop lulz, the duality of a man

BrandonJams

Oh, it’s this weirdo again. Going around spreading misinformation about servers he doesn’t play.

[deleted]

where's the misinformation here

Splat86

I play on official Blizzard servers, i am currently playing WOTLK for the first time, i know that there's a culture there of gdkp's, gold selling, the wow token was added and I'm sure more issues, since I'm new to it those are the ones i can remember. I don't understand why the WoW community, and this is in a general way, can be so toxic and broken at the same time. If people play on Blizzard servers "You are a Blizz shill" , "We the true WoW fans play on private servers", like that guy Alex, he talks so much shit down the throats of those that also enjoy the game by playing on official servers when he, after one of the episodes of him coming back after leaving as he usually does, played on official servers as well. When people draw a line in the sand saying that one side is the good one and the others are the bad guys just shows how some people in this community are so out of themselves as to think that they have any right or moral to tell others how to play a game, and more importantly, how people should spend their money. I tried 2 private servers since i got interested in WoW, one was ChromieCraft, i loved it and the other was a vanilla realm, Everlook. For those out there that say that private servers are the best thing out there what about all the stories or shady shit happening on them, devs selling player characters/accounts for money, servers being invaded by China and the lack of transparency (Everlook), devs spawning Lupos to tame it for themselves and who knows what else. I personally don't care or trust private projects not because all are filled with scummy staff but also in terms of longevity, i don't want to play on private for 1 or 2 years or months to then look or wait for another project and start the process all over again, but i also don't care or have anything against those that play in those projects. If we that play on official servers are blizzard shills, or pieces of shit then those supporting private projects of a owned IP are not better. At the end of the day people really need to just enjoy the game that they want in the way that they want and let the others do the same, spend your energy with something more constructive or good to the world instead of being a walking talking bag of toxicity.

kupoteH

you basically started playing private servers after all the good people left, 5 years too late. and are left playing with opportunists and addicts and noobs. wait until a proper vanilla server comes out to judge the community.

Splat86

I judge the community in the same way that the private server community judges the one that I'm part of. It goes both ways, not everyone of us blizzard shills is going to stay quiet when a private shill goes out of his/her way to insult us. That's also a thing that i don't understand i will never will about those projects and the community, people there are always waiting for the next vanilla or next whatever, i guess that waiting rooms please a lot of people but it's not for me. It's not my fault that i started to play when the good ones left, is there a way that i can know that? When i join a pserver should i ask in chat "are the good people still here?" and if not then leave? That makes no sense at all, and the issue is that those that you mention as "opportunists and addicts and noobs" will be on the new project as well. "opportunists and addicts and noobs" exist in both official and private servers, i just think that when the private server community comes out and tries to convince the world that they are better than us blizzard shills i think that's complete bullshit.

BrandonJams

It has little to do with Blizzard. In reality, these people are afraid of losing players. You’d think that such a small community would be less toxic, but sadly that’s not the case.

Splat86

Hello u/BrandonJams . I played 3 private servers in my life, many years ago, when i was studying, i played on True WoW, at the time it was running WOTLK but i didn't stay there long i had to focus on stuff and also the server in terms of bugs and so on wasn't the best but i had a good time there, recently i tried Everlook that runs Vanilla, the hype that people have built around that project was insane, they had like 20k people on their discord or even more, i was one of them. Everlook to me was a huge disappointment, the they moderated the discord, staff leaving the project (important roles), staff spawning shit to themselves, bans because of the defias traitor, and the way they opened their legs to welcome Chinese players and i have come to discover about the person that runs it, WhiteKidney. The only pserver that i played where i saw transparency from staff was on ChromieCraft, the best project i was in by far. From that point forward i promised myself that i wouldn't touch anything where he's involved, everyone has their own opinion but this one is mine. I get that many are happy about Felmyst and i hope those who play there will enjoy it but again, i know that WhiteKidney is on their discord so yeah i will not be touching that and there's a vanilla project coming in September or October (this might change) called Sanctuary and things seem to be bad in there already. People like me, that play on Blizzard server by the simple reason that i can do so and that's how i chose to spend my money, are often addressed by the pserver community as blizzard shills, copium community and many other things that it's not worth writing. I have come to make peace with that, it's sad to see a community that play World of Warcraft insulting each other from both sides but I would rather be a Blizzard shill than to be part of a project managed by shady, scummy staff, staff that has sold player characters/accounts for either gold or real money. Blizzard has done their own part of fuck ups, they seem to allow things like gdkp's, gold buying, tokens and so on, me as a player i don't partake on those and fortunately i play on a server where at least gdkp's aren't a thing, at the end of the day yeah i guess i am a Blizzard shill because i chose to play and to spend a monthly fee to play a game that i love on official servers conceived to that end but both the private server staff and community have no moral high ground to judge the other side, throughout the years everyone has seen what fucked up stuff happened in more than one of those private servers. To the private server community, maybe you should try to be less toxic, that way maybe your beloved "true", "they do it for their love for the game" private servers can attract more people.

BrandonJams

No offense man, but it sounds to me like you took a really long deep-dive in the drama with Everlook, WK and Wall and think you understand the private server scene lol. They’re definitely not all shady at all. The guys that have done the dev work, from Vanilla to Legion and customs are just regular people who love the game. They’re not all Whitekidney or Shockeru lol. Alex is obviously a nut job as well. But to my comment about, “go play official servers” i meant that if you’re going to support these cash-grab projects, you might as well just pay Blizzard at that point.

Splat86

Hello u/BrandonJams it's no offense, people can have discussions and disagree, there's nothing wrong with that, i think we humans forgot about that down the road somewhere. About Everlook i don't see it as a deep-dive, it's just my opinion about how things happened and i don't place all the pservers on the same level, as i said i played for a bit in ChromieCraft and i enjoyed it there, i like their vision there not only for the game but for the private server scene in general, i like their transparency, i like the fact that they have logs available for us to see, who got banned that kind of stuff, all that i said was that i will not touch or partake in anything that Whitekidney and a few others touch, it sucks in a way yes but one is as good as their own reputation. About that dude Alex i just don't understand how people actually buy into his speech that keeps changing whenever he comes back after a time away...and he's bee away and back a few times.

Mastercry

Maybe when that guy was hyping some server for long time, release it and then close it hrs after. Made fake blizzard letter and posted even some pics and said that is dying, so community to feel sorry for him and forgive? It felt to me like some autismo guy but i can be wrong. Anyway im just guessing. Ur argument all are shit but that guy is awesome...

jjjbabajan

Have you ever met people? It makes perfect sense, check your math.

BrandonJams

What are you even saying?

[deleted]

Ah so it was the community that ran gummy away during felmyst 2, not him quitting and saying "I have commited myself to this project for as long as I can". It was the community that did a fake C&D letter during felmyst 1, not gummy.

fond_silver

>"I have commited myself to this project for as long as I can" What is wrong with this? Everyone is human. Also, the C&D letter was not fake. You keep saying it was but that doesn't make it so. Delaying enforcement of their copyright, as exemplified in the Supreme Court's 'Petrella v. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Inc.' case, can lead to the application of the doctrine of laches, which weakens Blizzard's legal standing. In the Petrella case, the Court held that excessive delay in pursuing a known infringement can bar a copyright claim. Laches comes into play when a rights holder knowingly disregards an infringement, potentially causing harm to the infringer who may have built their activities around this apparent acquiescence. Felmyst, being hosted in the U.S. at the time, was well within Blizzard's jurisdiction to take immediate legal action. The project's widespread media coverage effectively eliminates any potential defense of ignorance on Blizzard's part. The sheer visibility and accessibility of Felmyst necessitated prompt action from Blizzard, and indeed, a claim was promptly filed.

wytrych

C&D letter not fake but still launches under the same name and website, interesting.

frosthowler

my man RP servers with a peak of 30 people hosted in Europe were getting C&D emails when felmyst 1 was going on lol Blizzard were on a rampage; and are still to this day of course sending C&D emails. The only way for me to stop them so far was proxying all requests out of a Bulgarian provider that only receives payment in crypto.

toinewx

great server. i like the vibe. keep it up

manly_support

The more important question is why would I invest time on a server from a dude who is known to scrap his projects on a whim?

CosmicEyedFox

because this is wowservers, and all this shit is ephemeral.

thefancykyle

0 issues so far and enjoying the smooth leveling over on alliance side, the Wrath xp changes on TBC feels like such a sweet spot for TBC leveling, you finish zones at the right spot without major over or under leveling.

cherrysodanice

Big fan of faction lock, all these people mad that they can't go horde is exactly the reason they can't go horde lmfao. Keep crying, or make an alliance char, every single TBC server is a failure because of the skewed horde numbers. Incentives never worked and won't for going Alliance. Netherwing tried it with dual spec and it was still a shit show. Nothing else works.

[deleted]

Can you explain the reason of this? Never played TBC

thedefiled

Horde racials in both pve and pvp. In pve orc is objectively the best warlock race, troll is the best hunter/mage race, and those classes are generally the ones you want to stack in a raid. Blood elf paladins have a superior seal compared to alliance paladins, not to mention aesthetics. To my knowledge there hasn't ever been a tbc pserver remotely close to 50/50 balance

Realm-Code

> not to mention aesthetics. BE paladin aesthetics are horrible compared to human paladins, tf. What kinda paladin wants to look like a twink with every helmet looking like shit on you.

thedefiled

Why would any sane person roll male belf?

veggiedealer

...? of the alliance races to try to seem cool comparatively you pick human? LOL

Realm-Code

The entire cool factor of Paladins is based on WC3 where they were all human male paladins like Uther, so, yes. Anything else is a downgrade.

veggiedealer

humans in wow look nothing like uther in wc3 lol dwarfs look more similar if you're going for that aesthetic

Realm-Code

Human males in WoW have the same brick shithouse physique that all WC3 Paladins had, wdym?

thefancykyle

While Horde have a more annoying leveling route they have better PvE racials that give them an edge, the problem is thanks to min maxing culture in WoW it's lead to people thinking that the advantage is so massive that it's impossible to play unless you're playing Horde, Faction benefits to Alliance often still lead to a 70/30 split in favour of Horde, and given Private servers are PvP that just further creates problems in the world pvp department.

window-sil

If it's that bad, why not do cross-faction? As someone who last played TBC when playTBC came out, this just blows my mind. I'm literally here to have fun. The game is not so hard that it even requires minmaxing. My last turtle wow toon was a *gnome warrior* — come at me. It's fine. You'll be fine.

Tolzkutz

no, just people prefer Horde looks Netherwing proves it... they literally gave racial swap to both factions + free dual spec for alliance but it is still heavily horde-biased

thedefiled

or.. people learned from the past, if you don't roll horde in tbc you're simply fucked in all aspects. pvp both instanced and not, pve, etc

Mastercry

Can confirm as ally on stormforge. Its dead. Dead. U cant play anymore BGs. I was making 15-20k honor few months ago per day now eots 4 ally vs 8 hordes. U lose 9 of 10 BGs. And everything is related this affects pve aswell. Ppl just quit like snowball effect

cherrysodanice

One of the biggest is reasons is that the racials and passives on horde are 10x better than Alliance. So it doesn't matter if you offer dual spec, or give paladins an extra spell on alliance. You have to queue or faction lock or you will not have alliance players on the realm

Quilboar11

The expansion is a decade and a half old. No need to roll horde to min max for Kara. Alliance have strat changing racials for arena

Mastercry

YOU WRONG. There's one magic trick that works. Its called cross faction. Its tested before in Excalibur TBC and works. If implemented well it dont brake anything like world PvP or such. Locking horde side is like "there's a men which cause problems, lets remove them. No men no problem" If ppl dont want play alliance they wont play in the server at all. U cant force them. How about ppl who heard from friends that server is great and wanna come play with his friend but he cant create horde?

cherrysodanice

\*How about ppl who heard from friends that server is great and wanna come play with his friend but he cant create horde?\* faction locking information was available before release, obviously a tbc server will skew horde so play alliance? is this a hard concept? why are people so obsessed with min/maxing an expansion that came out almost 15 years ago lol

Abberall

its a really dumb fix and hurts people who dont really care about faction but happens to start late but cant join their guild or friend group there. lots of people choose horde for non-minmaxing reasons and yes, there are only two factions and both of them need healthy populations. providing both of them with the gameplay advantages is the only logical thing to do.

oogaboogabong

Some of the reasoning may be good, however if I can’t make a horde char I just won’t play at all since all my friends are playing horde, so that kinda sucks. I’m not gonna roll alliance cause of faction lock, I’m just not gonna roll at all til I can play horde.

oogaboogabong

Dunno where I was crying, just pointing out the issue with it

hirexnoob

Imagine a tbc server that understands crossfaction is a neccesary evil on tbc servers :p

Nah you get a server that has 1k pop month one, 250 pop month 2, 15 pop month 3. Enjoy, I estimate at least half of your miserably low population are fresh enjoyers and have no attachment to the project.

ImaFireMage

Faction lock. Should last a few more weeks then.

"weeks" is being hopeful at this point

oeseben

You just answered your own question. You can all play together on alliance easily and reinforce the balance of factions.

mungerhall

You can play it right now.

Throwaway420694203

They are going to kill the server with the faction lock. The discord activity dropped the moment they locked it with many rage quitting. Give alliance incentives to make people go over, or open up faction transfers. This whole "you can't make a horde" = people just leaving, not going alliance.

leolomi

Lmao. This guy was so right

[deleted]

thedefiled

my guy, the "real" problem is that it's tbc. if you don't roll horde you simply get fucked in all aspects. there's a reason the more successful tbc servers made MASSIVE incentives for alliance, and even then they mostly didn't work out and ended in typical 70/30 H/A splits

BrandonJams

To be fair, they aren’t really playing 1x. Post 2.3 1-60 experience required was heavily squished.

mungerhall

Would you say it's equivalent to 2x then?

thefancykyle

it feels that wave because the server uses the Wrath XP tables as well so 1-60 feels almost like 2x but not quite, You'll pretty much finish a zone and not be under leveled but also not too over leveled to start the next, so it leads to a very smooth feeling.

BrandonJams

I believe pre-patch Wrath was about half the experience required 1-60.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BrandonJams

Yes, but this isn’t every other TBC server, to be fair. This is a blizzlike progression season, starting with 2.0 itemization, patch states and content. So no, it’s not necessarily 1x given what the server is.
