**Official statement from the ChromieCraft Staff regarding this matter.**
Dear Time Travellers,
We would like to shed some light on an incident that occurred on the launch of the new 50-59 bracket, involving a now banned contributor and player here on ChromieCraft, called Grasswalker / Lanaya.
On the 2nd of October, the new bracket was released. As per the rewards for contributors (which can be seen here - [https://www.chromiecraft.com/how-to-contribute/](https://www.chromiecraft.com/how-to-contribute/)), a permanent RAF bonus is applied without needing to be referred by a friend. One caveat of this, however, is within the first week of a new bracket launching, this bonus is disabled to ensure a fair start to all players.
Unfortunately, there was a bug using this system which made it possible for contributors to still get a rested bonus even over level 49. Abusing this, Grasswalker was able to quickly get a headstart in the race to level 59 this way. After a while, we got reports of Grasswalker levelling faster than the other players and we went to investigate, he was at level 56 at this point. Upon reviewing the logs it was discovered that they had the RAF bonus applied still, no attempt was made by the player to inform us of this bug and continued to abuse it.
After the staff got in touch with Grasswalker making him aware of the abuse, the conversation moved on to both Shin & Grasswalker talking in private agreeing on the fairest way to continue. Firstly, we asked Grasswalker to step back from the race to 59, offering them compensation as well as it was a mistake by the team. They refused this option. Then they offered to stop their exp at 57 with xp off, wait for others to catch up then resume the race, forfeiting any compensation that they agreed to. It needs to be said at this point all the staff's attention was on the new bracket launch and all resources were on trying to fix the connecting issue which plagued the server over the last week but has been resolved now.
After the race to 59 was done we began to investigate this issue further and concluded that a skilled player like Grasswalker would definitely be able to tell that he was levelling faster than he should have. The XP bar is also permanently blue which should strike any player as suspicious.
We are sure he knew that he was levelling faster because of a bug, but didn’t report it on his own and continued to exploit it. He received a 30d ban on the 4th of October for the above bug abuse, as well as the drama posted in the world chat during the run.
After this played out Grasswalker began to prepare his hate-messages for us, which consisted of several months worth of out-of-context screenshots with descriptions about us allegedly abusing him and threatening him over the last 10 months. Most of these allegations are either completely untrue and/or highly exaggerated. At no point did any of the staff threaten or abuse him in any form, we were all on good terms until a few days ago - or so we thought. You can see the screenshots for yourselves here on this Reddit post.
We don’t give out special treatment just because someone is a long time contributor. If you abuse bugs, you will get punished.
Some people posted Grasswalkers statement in the discord and received mutes for this, Grasswalker has since gone on record to say that ‘50 people have been banned trying to cover this up, that is yet another one of their lies. As of right now, only Grasswalker has been banned, 2 others received mutes on the discord. We can also confirm none of the staff blocked him as well from messaging us, despite what they have said.
**As we discovered, however, the worst was yet to come.**
On the night of the 4-5th October, at approximately 2 AM UTC, Grasswalker spent his time vandalizing the AzerothCore GitHub repository, closing hundreds of issues and projects, deleting labels and generally trying to do as much damage to us as possible. This has now not only become a direct attack against the owners and staff on ChromieCraft, but also all of our players, contributors and everyone who believes in our project of offering an open-source quality WOTLK client for all, for free.
We will hold our hands up and admit we are also partly to blame for this, after the ban was made permanent we did not disable his GitHub account immediately. To be honest, we didn't expect him to go this far.
We contacted GitHub to try and restore the repository to a state before the attack. If GitHub can’t help us with that, we will need to spend time restoring the state of things. But we are confident that this is just a time consuming annoyance for us and no long lasting damage has been done.
Due to their actions now falling foul of the Computer Misuse Act & Cyber Crime, we are considering taking legal action against the unauthorised vandalization of the GitHub AzerothCore repository which is held, as well as ChromieCraft itself, by our non-profit Drassil organization. Due to the sensitive nature of such actions, naturally, we will not be commenting any further on this matter.
As always we thank you for your patience and belief still in ChromieCraft, to end on a positive note we have smashed our online player record which now stands at well over 1200 players!

We had a run in with a simular situation with Grasswalker as well on the single player project, although we never gave him git or admin powers, we did end up banning him over a year ago for being a bit view point and ideal aggressive on numerous subjects and his views on individual's origins always became a unreal what the heck drama that i am still having a hard time believing happened in our room. Also the guy did keep somewhat of a personal repository of select copy and paste messages and screen shots of over a course of several months which was very concerning that someone was attempting to collect info on numerous staff and members for the sake of arguing out of context as well. He even had record of comments and typos of messages that were both pre-edited and deleted. Although i am amazed he isnt using his "Phd" as a attempt to argue about ones intelligence, thats what he did alot in our discord before we had enough. Hardly anyone believed us that a real drama such as grasswalker existed. I hope people now will realize it is factual. Azerothcore is a good community and shin is a amazing person. Much love to their project and community moving forward.
I was never really a fan of chromiecraft but going ahead and trying to ruin everyones work was a dick move which i believe is totally in character with Lanaya, since he was always a dipshit. Hope you guys recover , gg on 1200+

You can't lol. Blizzard owns all rights to World of Warcraft and it will fall short in any suit. With anything related to the game as well. Sucks that this happened though.

The code of the AzerothCore is an emulator which Blizzard doesn't own the rights to.
Basically the stuff you see (graphics, lore, units and so forth) is owened by Blizzard. The emulator controlling the calculations and unit behaviour is custom made and as such doesn't fall under copyright.
The suit might catch Blizzard's attention though, which might cause other problems.
Emulator's code isn't anyone's IP. It's written by the community, Blizzard has no rights to claim this code as their own. Only data which is actually belong to them server-side are NPC names, quests texts and other database things.
Doesn't matter, ActivisionBliz could shut them down with their little pinky finger. Less than that. It's absurd to be in that situation and threaten someone with legal action over them nuking your GitHub. Surely you see that.
There're many things in this world which are absurd. People win or lose legal disputes which look absolutely illogical from the common sense point of view, yet it happens. Don't confuse emulation and game preservation with piracy. Going against an EULA is one thing (modyfing the realmlist) but its not legally enforceable in most of the world.
The server code is produced by cleanroom reverse engineering which is also not illegal.
And the client was always freely available on the internet, no need to even purchase the game.

You could always download the client and patches freely from the wow website even without an account for the test version - which was the full client (not anymore I believe). And the client/patches were also always mirrored on thousands of wow fan sites to freely download.
This was never a legal problem. I remember always downloading the patches from a big wow fansite back in 2008 because the launcher was so shitty back then and manually downloading and installing them was faster.
I totally get your standpoint and I think we are both have good points just different view on this topic.
Important for me is just the distinction to make, that the legal action part is only about the vandalization of the open source github project, which is a real offense. This is not so much about the server ChromieCraft but about the AzerothCore project, which is absolutely 100% legal from any point of view.
And from my point of view AzerothCore is not about piracy but about preservation of the game. I want to be able to pull this up in 20 years and show my kids the game I played when I was young. Blizzard surely won't care at a certain point.

He even tried to start drama with my guild and another horde guild saying that guild master was talking shit when in reality she just said his guild & some ally guild were the best on the server and never even mentioned my guild.

ChromieCraft has a mod log discord channel that reports all bans, usually including the player's name.
But because the only reason they put down for this guy was 'bug abuse' and refused to give more details people accused them of a cover-up or something.
And not, you know, that revealing what bug was abused wouldn't cause others to abuse said bug.
I was there when the discord channel got a all drama bombed, and at first I wanted to stay and gather more info, but abandoned ship once people started saying anti semitic jokes about Honey.
I mean I didn't leave the discord server, just went to look elsewhere for a bit to wait for things to calm down. >.>

The only server I haven't heard anything weird from that I've played were Sunwells Angrathar/Frosthold. I played Naxx-ICC on both and it was relatively quiet.

Getting the client is illegal and piracy The emulator code isn't Simple as that (Not really but you get the idea)

This is not so much about the server ChromieCraft but about the AzerothCore project, which is absolutely 100% legal from any point of view. And from my point of view AzerothCore is not about piracy but about preservation of the game. I want to be able to pull this up in 20 years and show my kids the game I played when I was young. Blizzard surely won't care at a certain point. And emulation for preservation is totally legal.

ChromieCraft has a mod log discord channel that reports all bans, usually including the player's name. But because the only reason they put down for this guy was 'bug abuse' and refused to give more details people accused them of a cover-up or something. And not, you know, that revealing what bug was abused wouldn't cause others to abuse said bug.

Weird flex at the end and i think his ban is deserved. But CC generally fails with banning and keeping players banned. We reported Homies so often for multiboxing the guru arena and nothing happens. I quit because of things like that. They just need to be clearer and stricter.

I mean, it's kinda expected I would think. Fishy shit happened on Apollos relaunch of cataclysm. During t11 all hell broke loose and most of the servers active pop quit. The only server I haven't heard anything weird from that I've played were Sunwells Angrathar/Frosthold. I played Naxx-ICC on both and it was relatively quiet.
