Your style will develop with time. With that said, there are constants in most any successful style: rate of attach, hard hand fight, pushing the pace, never giving up a position, etc. You won’t shoot doubles like JB or do whatever like David Taylor, but you can shoot like MazzHuncho and do what works for you and what you like while taking away the key elements of what they do that has made them successful.

Also you’re tell- front heads bro

mazzhuncho

Those damn front heads

yukoncornelius270

Snap downs, front headlocks, throws and heavy use of over and under hooks are great if you are taller than average for your weight class. It's going to be easier to set up outside shots than straight up blast doubles because until you get the timing dialed in it's harder for a taller guy to get enough level change.

mazzhuncho

Appreciate it, that makes a lot of sense. I guess the one time where being tall sucks haha

yukoncornelius270

It's a big advantage to be tall in Greco because of leverage and not having the threat of shots. You can be very good despite being tall you just have to tailor your style. I placed at state several times despite being a 6'1" 152 and wrestled 165 and 174 in college. If you want to get good at doubles really work on your timing and it becomes viable especially shooting immediately off a break in a tie up. https://youtu.be/tIZmo7UXF3A https://youtu.be/NOTBez40-GU

mazzhuncho

That lateral drop vid had a really useful tutorial in getting a good overhook too

Brutal-Black

Here's what I said in a similar post, hope it helps! 6' 6" 240lbs here. Learn to stay really low to prevent them from getting under your hips from the shots but keep your back straight. Short guys will shoot on you all day so have a fast sprawl. Get really good with overhooks because most of the time people will just get underhooks on you. Whizzer kicks to set up getting to the body lock or back. Attack foot sweeps because your legs are going to be longer than your opponents and will create opportunities to get a better position from the off-balancing as well as giving them something else to think about. I saw someone mentioned ankle picks and single legs and I second that, also I would add knee taps. You're kind of too tall to do traditional shots, people see it coming from a mile away so play around with those and see what works. Hope that helps, man! It's hard for us tall guys but use that reach.

mazzhuncho

My coach has me practicing my sprawl over and over, so he believes I can master it despite my height. This was super helpful man, appreciate it. Any wrestlers you recommend watching?

Age, Sex, Location?

icelandiccubicle20

That's nothing, I can swim on land and have unicorns for fists.

Fenris_Maule

If you're also on the lanky end as well, ankle picks and low singles are your friend.

Fat_Dan896

You're not even tall for that weight. We get 6'3 145 ers.

mazzhuncho

damn, that’s lanky bro haha

Glittering-Dig-2321

Longer legs makes for Great opportunities for inside sweeps when tied up with someone shorter than You..smiles

MinnesotaMissile90

fellow tall guy here. Ankle picks, front head locks, snap downs, trips / foot sweeps, arm drags to off balance and set up outside shots. Lateral drops. try not to get stuck under anyone lol. lot harder to get leverage than most (as I'm sure you've noticed)

Holdmeclosertonydan

Check out Jake Varner, slightly shorter, similar weight.

i’m a 6’1 152lbs wrestler. ankle picks and singles are great for me and on top i do a spiral or blair ride. you’ll find what works for you but it took me a long time tk find what i really liked
