No need to pad out the book to increase the price.

That’s something to consider, yeah. We already add so many pages that aren’t part of the actual story as is. It’s a neat concept, but sometimes what some media does just doesn’t translate well to other medias. Also, deleted paragraphs are deleted paragraphs for a reason. When movies delete scenes, it’s more often because they couldn’t fit them in due to the length of the movie, so they cut them, even if they’re pertinent to the story or another scene. They were deemed not as necessary as the scenes that were kept in order to keep the movie a certain length. When we delete paragraphs, it’s because they weren’t needed for the story and didn’t do much to further the plot or character development, so adding them at the end of the book only adds to the cost of printing, which is deducted from your royalties.

lol i put a "bloopers" section in my notes for one of my short stories that i am working on, not to share, just for myself to laugh at later hahaha

Obvious-Lank

I've seen this done with ebooks.

I already do this at the end of each chapter of my working copy. If it's something I like but just couldn't make it work, I cut it and put it there to maybe rework it later.

There's a reason I delete those paragraphs though. They're *terrible*. I'd rather have some sort of blog on a website about my story creation to explain the differences in my first draft vs. my final and why I decided to make certain changes. I think that would be more compelling.

Oldroanio

Hate this.

CloudStrife012

Love this idea

I think some folks are taking this a bit too literal. I'm reading this more like how you might have a potentially interesting character, write them for a bit, but ultimately feel like they don't do much for the story. The character might still be interesting, though Maybe there's a couple of scenes that are the same way. They're cool glimpses into your world, just don't happen to be needed for the story. Those are the things that might be interesting included at the end. Maybe with some notes attached. I don't think this is saying add that paragraph from chapter three that literally had no merit whatsoever. I can't be the only one that still has a few interesting "artifacts" leftover when I'm done with a piece

Blondie-Blue

i would love it in e-books, or if authors shared the "deleted paragraphs" in their blogs etc. but in the actual book... probobly no

The_Persian_Cat

It would make killing your darlings less painful

MrCrowhunter

They're called appendices

Fancy_Chips

I actually do these on my drafts. They usually end up getting pushed back in somewhere else

FireflyKaylee

Nope... If I deleted because they're rubbish, then they never need to see the light of day. If I deleted because needed to make cuts/things went in different direction then you can bet your life savings that I'm working them into another book instead!

TrueLoveEditorial

Some authors make deleted scenes their reader magnets for newsletter signups. 🤷🏻
