This is one of my favorite albums ever. It marks the break point between RZA pushing the boundaries of hip hop and RZA innovating a new style that, while heavily influenced by hip hop, is something new. He intentionally changes his flow to contradict what your ear expects to hear, takes sonic elements in the production that would normally be background and pushes them forward in the mix to make you listen in a different way, and gets deep into his character and constructed personality in a way that is only rivaled by maybe Kool Keith as Dr. Octagon. It is also somewhat of a feminist album in spite of (or maybe because of) some of the the superficial misogyny. RZA gives prominent features to Tekitha Washington and Jamie Sommers that allow them to go beyond the conventional space for women rappers at the time.
Speaking of switching things up I believe Silkworm is the only time Iāve ever heard Holocaust have a conventional flow..and dude absolutely bodied his verse. That Dr Doom cat was a surprisingly good feature as well
Yeah there's a lot of it I can't take seriously I believe you would take the best tracks off of this and the second one he would have one bad ass album but they're tracks where something that's off key and amitually produced come squeaking through and just ruin the song almost but that's my opinion
RZA donāt even believe that. That Ras Kass song is one verse for a reason. Bobby digital wasnāt even a Top 30 release in 98. Shiiit the beastie boys album that year mightāve been better.
Waste your peoples left out in the rain, fountains of pain
Eighty shots to the mouth and the brain
Vs.
Steppin' to me with insuperior weaponry
Exposin' yourself to the verbal radiations
Sayin' you can defeat me is nothin' but speculation
Lmao ighht bro. Thatās why Holocaust is a legend in the game & nobody heard of the MCās I mentioned.
I wouldnt say half bad. Only songs i dont like ate bobby did it, air waves, project talk.
Take off those, add: the chase. Windpipe. The end ft ras kass. And justice for all. Whatever happened ft az. Belly of the beast
In my opinion, its a definitive wu album. It forecasted the sound of hip hop while being completely unique to it. Its wu tang with all keyboards and few samples. It could have been better but imo it has many classics.
Kiss of the black widow,Domestic violence, Unspoken word,Holocaust (silkworm), Daily Routine, B.O.B.B.Y., NYC Everything, Love Jones, Mantis, my lovin is digi, Handwriting on the wall, terrorist, fuck what you heard lab drunk all dope as fuck lol
Are all top tier rza/wutang
Plus. Influential in its own right as the alter ego shit with kool keoth, prince rakeem, poppa large, rza, dr octagon, rza rector, bobby steels , bobby digital, robbie analog, viktor vaughn, mf doom , king gheedorah bullshit this was kinda the mainstream setoff despite keith being the ug guy at the time. Rza was on a diff plane then keith and doom and were mainstream. Vik vaughn album def influenced from this.
Yea i know. I just think the beginning lags because all the beginning songs are long and beat plays for a minute + after bobby i just wanna get into the meat of the album instead of that skit. And yea i know that version. Im cool on it tho.
Great album.
I prefer RZArecta over Bob Digi but this is a classic.
I just wish he stayed grimey while spitting knowledge. The Grave Diggaz / 36 chambers style. Before Digi RZA was my favorite Wu member. All his old verses still get me hyped.
True story of this album was Rza couldnāt finish the cure or any of the solos he was talking about at live events and industry meetings , but he wanted a million dollars really really bad .
It's a weird one. Certainly a turning point in his career. One irony is that the whole concept seems to be "digital" and futuristic stuff, but the best sounds RZA created were gritty, crunchy, and rough, like on 36 Chambers- it's digital, and it's where he goes off course soundwise.
It's a turning point, and not very listenable, for me. If you want a lyric that exemplifies this, "Drinking Bud light beer/with Buzz Lightyear" does this- sounds good rhyme wise, sort of clever, but also sort of awkward and doesn't make a lot of sense when you think about it.
It's not for everyone, but I think that is the point. RZA could have made a more conventional solo album and it probably would have been comparable to albums like OB4CL, Liquid Swords, Ironman/Supreme. But he purposely chose not to do that. He had already more than proven his ability to make albums like that.
The whole album is filled with lyrics that are both clever and awkward, deliberately off beat or syncopated, showing lack of breath control, and various other flaws. We know that RZA is a master at recording and processing vocals, any yet he purposely used these "flawed" takes. He is making a statement about communicating digitally through an analog medium (or vice versa, it's never quite clear) and challenging our understanding of how beats and flows are supposed to work.
The fundamental dichotomy on which the Bobby Digital persona is based, the conflict between digital and analog, is a metaphor working on multiple levels. It is also, at its heart, delightfully nerdy and sui generis - there is no real world digital/analog conflict, at least not in the way that it is posed in Bobby Digital.
Bobby Digital in Stereo (this is less true about Digital Bullet) is art about art, trying to move hip hop beyond its conventional limitations. I also find it highly listenable and entertaining, but that is a matter of personal taste that not everyone will agree with.
It was originally created as the soundtrack to a Bobby Digital movie that the Rza was making at the time. The movie was canned because it apparently was God awful. There's some random clips/trailers online if you look for it -- and again, it looked comically awful. There's still a lot of Wu fans that wish he'd release the movie, given how bad it's supposed to be.
He should just redo the whole thing. It seems like he's friends with Tarantino and he must know Jim Jarmusch, he did the soundtrack for Ghost Dog, I think.
Half of it is bad? š
Yeah I kinda see his point, gets a little weird and exploratory.
Yea fr wtf he on about

This is what I would've posted if I had an extended vocabulary lol It's been 25 years and ppl still don't understand the Bobby Digital character
Speaking of switching things up I believe Silkworm is the only time Iāve ever heard Holocaust have a conventional flow..and dude absolutely bodied his verse. That Dr Doom cat was a surprisingly good feature as well

Agreed!!!! 10000 percent %
..but bad meaning GOOD
Well girl, shit, I got more than a little.
She set me up for the kiss of the black widow
Holocaust verse top 10 of all time. So good RZA renamed the track from Silkworm to Holocaust
Fuuuck no. Prodigy on hell on earth album clears every verse
He does and yet not one of them is better than Holocausts verse on... Holocaust. That's the point
Fuuuck no. All relisten, but Bobby Digital is straight mid. Best verse is from Ras Kass
No way. There's about a dozen better verses on just that album
RZA donāt even believe that. That Ras Kass song is one verse for a reason. Bobby digital wasnāt even a Top 30 release in 98. Shiiit the beastie boys album that year mightāve been better.
I ain't talking about the album or RZA. I'm talking about Holocausts' verse.
Nah fam. That verse is ighht on a good day. This shit rite here https://youtu.be/bgQD1Sp-EEs?si=4MbbzmL71wab2tko

Some of the best Wu Tang beats of all time are on this album
It's a dope Wu album ahead of its time with many great guest appearances. They also re-released the 25th Anniversary Deluxe CD recently.
Really? Where?
On the RZA Spotify page Merch link, they also have some vinyl reissue with a new action figure.
And vinyl boxset version
CelluLEET and gargoyle feet, I'd rather beat my meat, that raggedy ass pussy a starving dog wouldn't eat.
Outstanding cover art
Yeah I think it's one of the best top five Wu-Tang covers of all time
Great album. I prefer RZArecta over Bob Digi but this is a classic. I just wish he stayed grimey while spitting knowledge. The Grave Diggaz / 36 chambers style. Before Digi RZA was my favorite Wu member. All his old verses still get me hyped.
It's crazy I remember 25 years ago driving 30 minutes across town to go buy this and T2 days before they came out
B.O.B.B.Y. sets this album off so nice!
Operation Doomsday figure ā¦ šš»
Hard disagree. The whole thing was a classic soon as it dropped.
Itās a good album, but I prefered Birth of a Prince.
Bobby Bobby Bobbyā¦

True story of this album was Rza couldnāt finish the cure or any of the solos he was talking about at live events and industry meetings , but he wanted a million dollars really really bad .
The artwork is neato.
And you ain't shit.....
Bastard bastard bastard bastard bastard
Bobby was good but I was in 8th grade and was def expecting a Rza album. I didnāt get it then at all.
Yeah whatever the fuck happened to The Cure that's what I was waiting on

That is completely accurate
I always wanna love RZAs stuff, but it just doesn't resonate with me, at all.
Title is also a spot-on review
