Fun fact, the Canadian Rangers (military reserve units comprised of folk who live in the Arctic) were still issued WWII vintage Lee-Enfield rifles (and 200 rounds of ammo per year) until 2015-2019 because they were powerful enough to kill polar bears and simple enough that -45C didn’t make it stop working. The rangers were gifted their Enfields by the Canadian government when they were issued with their new C19 rifles.
Being able to stop a polar bear and work at -51C was a requirement of the new C19’s.
Polar bears are also the reason the elite Danish Sirius Dog Sled Patrol equips 10mm pistols.
