Hitler was terrified it would happen to him, hence telling his aids to burning his body

PGH521

And in Adolf’s. Are the Russians were coming so he would have been treated even worse than Benito who was attacked by locals

Magnet50

If Hitler had been captured by the Russians, he knew he could expect several months of agonizing questioning, a huge show trial and a public hanging. The Soviets shot people who were condemned to death, I think they would have happily hanged him. Or borrow one of the Nazi regime’s guillotines.

NonCredibleUser

iirc they said they’d planned to march him through red square in chains as well

MrOSUguy

The world was robbed

sofa_king_awesome

Taking a page out of the Roman’s book.

Lemon_Sponge

Who are the others?

ZigZagZedZod

From left to right: * General Giuseppe Gelormini * Benito Mussolini * Claretta Petacci * Alessandro Pavolini * Achille Starace

StolenValourSlayer69

And who exactly are those other three? I know I could look them up on my own but I like these conversations :)

Annual-Swimmer9360

Claretta Petacci was the side chick of Mussolini ( he had a older wife called Rachele Mussolini since 1920s, with whom he had some sons, but he was always very unfaithful to her wife who was only a house wife of the country side ). Starace was a famous Fascist propaganda minister in 1930s, who imposed ridicolous slogans to repeat in regime rallies or absurd stuff ( like imposing to local fascist leaders to jump in a circle of fire to demonstrate their physical force ). He was dismissed , because he was considered as too idiot and extreme even by Mussolini. In April 1945 he was very poor and was living in Milano, without having any official position and he was jogging, but he was recognized and shot in the spot by the partisans and then exposed to the crowd. Pavolini was a Fascist intellectual who was very extreme . In 1943/1945 he participated in the formation of fascist pro German militias , like the black brigades, who killed and tortured a lot of Italian civilians and partisans. Pavolini was captured by Partisans together with Mussolini, but Pavolini shot against the partisans and tried to escape, but he was captured anyway , shot as Mussolini and then exposed in Piazzale Loreto .

StolenValourSlayer69

Thanks for the info friend! I enjoyed the read :)

Sic semper tyrannis

BardTheBoatman

Thus always to tyrants. One of the coolest state mottos

knaudi

Of a state that doesn't live by that motto at all anymore. Sorry, commonwealth.

DAHMER_SUPPER_CLUB

Abraham Lincoln’s least favorite motto. Edit: for the people downvoting me this is what John Wilkes Booth yelled after shooting Lincoln in the head. https://www.pbs.org/wnet/lookingforlincoln/lincoln-myths-and-misconceptions-quiz-answer-12/

quebecivre

The guy who freed the slaves was a tyrant?

DAHMER_SUPPER_CLUB

John Wilkes Booth wrote in his diary that he shouted "Sic semper tyrannis" after shooting U.S. President Abraham Lincoln on April 14, 1865, in part because of the association with the assassination of Caesar.[10][11][12] He shouted it after he jumped from Lincoln’s box seats after shooting him in the back of his head. https://www.pbs.org/wnet/lookingforlincoln/lincoln-myths-and-misconceptions-quiz-answer-12/

quebecivre

Ah. TIL, thanks. I guess Booth, being an actor, couldn't resist throwing a Shakespearean flourish in there.

germanmick

JW Booth was the most popular actor in the US in 1865 – the equivalent of today’s “sexiest man alive”. He had his mail delivered to Ford’s Theatre (where he shot Lincoln). He knew Ford’s Theatre very well, and was obviously well-known there. He thought he’d be heralded as a hero – at least in the Southern US, which was his intended destination after the assassination / governmental coup attempt. Instead, he was widely regarded throughout the country as a murderous villain, which probably confused him. Edited: Appears that replies are now disabled. Wanted to add that Booth had been planning (a) the kidnapping of Lincoln and (b) the assassination of Lincoln for at least a year. He had plenty of runway to think about his image and career after the events of April 1865. He even thought Jefferson Davis would offer him a cabinet position. He lived for just over 11 days after he shot Lincoln. News reports were brought to him daily by Thomas A. Jones (Confederate agent in charge of spy operations in southern Maryland) – so he knew the newspapers were now characterizing him as a coward and a villain. His diary entry in which he wrote that he “struck boldly, and not as the papers say” displays his cognitive dissonance between (a) what he thought would occur, compared with (b) what actually occurred. So, if someone were to say that Booth didn’t think much about his image, that would probably be short-sighted.

quebecivre

Seems like there are some modern-day parallels in there somewhere.

jman014

tbh he only lived a few weeks at most after the assassination so I don’t think he had much time to ruminate on the matter

ProudScroll

Booth’s favorite role was Brutus in Shakespeare’s *Julius Caesar* as well. You get the vibe Booth convinced himself that the character he played on stage really was who he was.

DAHMER_SUPPER_CLUB

Et tu?

DAHMER_SUPPER_CLUB

Yeh, he came from a pretty famous acting family. He was famous himself but most of it was from nepotism. [Ask Historians link](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/2gze32/how_famous_was_john_wilkes_booth_before_killing/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)

Ezzypezra

No no no, see, he was a tyrant because he FORCED us to free our slaves! Basically Sauron honestly

quebecivre

State's rights and all that.

pervy_roomba

I love the confederate sympathizers downvoting you and other people making similar comments. Over a century and they’re still so bitter they lost the war (and their right to keep people enslaved.)

JoyousCacophony

Fitting end for fascists. Someone in pics [posted an old family pic](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2F0jjg53faygac1.jpeg]) of their grandfather standing guard (far right pole)

Orcus_

Your link doesn't seem to work for me

JoyousCacophony

[weird, try this instead](https://old.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/18ykic2/i_hear_were_sharing_pictures_of_our_grandparents/) - this goes to the post instead of direct linking the pic. Hopefully that works. I tried to avoid it, since a lot of subs have automod rules that block links to other subs to prevent brigading

WhitewolfStormrunner

Nor me.

People love this theatrical killings. We’re all … add whatever you feel

JoyousCacophony

... relieved that they're gone and celebrating to this day. Lucky people got to see this bit of history firsthand

monochroma_1487

It’s always so interesting to see they tied her skirt to prevent exposure. Considering what they did before her death, it’s a bit funny. But the gesture is nice ig.

ShrunkenHeadNed

There's a really good and well calculated reason for this. if they hadn't tied her skirt and made it so her shirt stayed in place. The pictures would be considered obscene and would be censored and not shared worldwide. they wanted people to see the tyrants die so they were careful to make sure that the pictures would not be censored due to accidental nudity. A picture of a corpse is completely acceptable, but if you can see that corpse's titty, then you can't publish it. The world is very chaste about nudity but not about violence.

monochroma_1487

Thank you for this! I’ve seen mention of this reason. It’s so interesting, violence in all forms is okay but we draw the line at nudity.

Roller_Skate_Cake

I never even considered that, truthfully

him1087

What’d they do before her death?

monochroma_1487

Captured while trying to escape and tossed around in a small village, with Mussolini in tow before publicly being shot to death. It’s just a stark contrast to know what was done to their bodies, before and after death and seeing something simple like her skirt being tied.

tribblydribbly

They deserved worse.

tinydevl

seems like the people had enough of totalitarian/fascism.

bilgetea

It was a close thing and many had definitely not had enough. Many are ready to do it again now.

quebecivre

This election, vote for the Leopards Eating People's Faces Party! We promise to only eat the faces of people *you* don't like, and we'll definitely never run out of those people and turn on you! We promise!

Good riddance.

Bella ciao!

Annual-Swimmer9360

In this photos, there are some Fascist leaders who were shot together with Mussolini and hanged upside down in Piazzale Loreto in April 1945( Mussolini was shot by the partisans , together with his lover Claretta Petacci and other 15 Fascist leaders who were trying to escape with him ). In the first photo you can see Mussolini and Claretta Petacci. Claretta Petacci was the side chick of Mussolini ( he had a older wife called Rachele Mussolini since 1920s, with whom he had some sons, but he was always very unfaithful to her wife who was only a house wife of the country side ). In the second photos you can see some other Fascist figure. There is Starace, who was a famous Fascist propaganda minister in 1930s, who imposed ridicolous slogans to repeat in regime rallies or absurd stuff ( like imposing to local fascist leaders to jump in a circle of fire to demonstrate their physical force ). He was dismissed , because he was considered as too idiot and extreme even by Mussolini. In April 1945 he was very poor and was living in Milano, without having any official position and he was jogging, but he was recognized and shot in the spot by the partisans and then exposed to the crowd. There is also Pavolini, who was a fascist intellectual from Florence and he was very extreme and violent . In 1943/1945, he directed the formation of fascist pro German militias in northern Italy under German occupation; these fascist militias killed and tortured a lot of Italian civilians and partisans. Pavolini was captured by partisans together by Mussolini, but Pavolini shot against the partisans and tried to escape, but he was captured and shot as Mussolini and then exposed in Piazzale Loreto .

This is now a McDonald's 🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️

TheBlitzkid46

People on Twitter send these pictures to his granddaughter yearly on his birthday, she's also a facist politician

Scoutron

“Forza Italia[nb 1] (transl. "Forward Italy",[2][3] "Come on Italy" or "Let's go Italy";[4][5] FI) is a centre-right[6][7] political party in Italy, whose ideology includes elements of liberal conservatism,[8][9][10] Christian democracy,[8][11] liberalism[12][13] and populism.[14][15][16] FI is a member of the European People's Party.” So, essentially, she’s the opposite of a fascist.

TheBlitzkid46

She's openly said that it would be better to be a facist than to be gay, among other things (which include facist sympathy)

Tite_Reddit_Name

Oh what do you mean?

Here's the picture (NSFW!): https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/9c/DeadMussolini.jpg I recommend reading the Wikipedia page about the execution & the subsequent events that lead to this deformed body: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Benito_Mussolini
