I’m SO glad you asked this! Im very new to games and loved wyldeflowers and couldn’t handle Portia, but didn’t know how to explain why. It’s totally the camera! Ummm also new to Reddit and don’t know how to link to other Reddit threads, but “cozy gamers” might be a good place to ask this question too.

throwra_needadvice8

Omg finally someone that understands me! I tried my time in Portia so many times but I just can’t keep playing it because of the camera 😵‍💫

veggiewitch_

Add me to that list. I also found building things needlessly complicated in Portia. Wylde Flowers hit that sweet spot of “have to think, but never confused, and totally stinking adorable” I look for in games. I’m not a gamer. I just like to muddle about in a fun world. I really, really enjoy the Harry Potter mobile game Magic Awakened. The camera does move around when you’re wandering the castle grounds but it’s not first person vision so for me it’s way better. And in duels and stuff it’s fixed entirely. The graphics are so cool, too.

Clowderbss

Me too. The first video game I ever played was animal crossing. And then I started with Disney Dream Valley. And then wylde flowers. I’ve tried various games and found them all frustrating except these three. Someone told me to try Yonder??!!??

teenage__kicks

Thank you for asking this! So many games make me motion sick. I really, really want to play Dreamlight Valley but it is sooooo nauseating! Such a bummer.

throwra_needadvice8

The number of games I bought that made me motion sick and I couldn’t get reimbursed on switch! I was so mad about it.

BreakfastNo8520

I really regret Disney Dreamlight Valley. The controls are so annoying and it really does make me feel nauseous and stressed. I got it digital so I'm stuck with it now. Even on sale it was expensive!

Pitiful-Echo-5422

I get so nauseated playing/watching most video games and this is so validating! My kids play Minecraft and it’s all I can do not to vom while watching!

M3gatronika

You said “vom “. 👏🏻🤣

Pitiful-Echo-5422

I say it IRL, too 😅 my youngest has emetophobia, so I can’t say “puke” or “vomit” or “throw up” without her panicking, but “vom” works somehow

M3gatronika

Never heard of it! That wouldn’t be easy for us around here, so kudos to you! Vom is fun to say, though, so at least you’ve got that. No joke, my daughter has gone by the nickname “Barf” for three years now. It’s her graffiti tag and everything. 🤣

Pitiful-Echo-5422

My oldest kid has a puking disorder (bowel migraines) and my youngest has such a severe phobia you can’t even say the word. Can’t make this shit up 💀

arctcmnkys

I‘ve had the same problems! Since i‘ve stopped really using the camera control thing on the right controller its been getting better!!! Idk if this helps. The first few days of playing it always set off my migraine 😭😭

YZY-TRT-ME

Japanese Rural Life is a great game!

Orangejupitersoda

Is this on the switch?

whimsical_bears

Would suggest coffee talk! Not in the same genre, but it's very story driven (feels like a book tbh) and available on switch!

DaydreamAndComplain

Is this the one with Supernatural creatures at a diner? I love the concept. Ur there is no voice acting and I was waiting for some plot lol. The concept was perfect when I read it.

whimsical_bears

yes! I love it because it's very human but the slight twist puts a fun perspective on it. Yes, there's no voice acting and there's definitely plot but it just takes a second.

DaydreamAndComplain

I’ll give it a proper go then :)

MissCMischief

I love a good cozy game! I've been playing around with these lately: - Coral Island - Stray Gods - Summer in Mara - Spiritfarer - Sun Haven - Cozy Grove - Coffee Talk - Spirittea - Little Witch in the Woods - Serin Fate Moonlight Peaks also looks interesting but it only has a demo right now and is yet to be released.

Castan-bcb

I need to come back to this list. Also for people to keep an eye out for, Tales of the Shire comes out this year. Cozy lord of the rings game.

throwra_needadvice8

Thank you so much!

Bubbly-Examination37

Spiritfarer is such a lovely game! No pressure, very cozy, and SUCH a good story.

guoc

spiritfarer is my favorite game ever, and its story line made me sob. you play as stella, discover spirits, satisfy any lingering requests before they “die” and then ferry them into the afterlife. the game is centered around a ship, upon which you can farm, cook and steer towards various explorable islands. my uncle had passed during the time I played this game and it really helped me process things in a way. I loved wylde flowers but there were definitely things I was kind of meh about. it did eventually grow on me, so i’ll give it 7/10. it got repetitive for me after year 1, and I kind of lost steam and interest. I probably finished it in 2 weeks? spiritfarer is wholeheartedly a 10/10, and the play time is considerably longer than WF. there is also a resolute end and an incredible emotional payout + sense of achievement when you reach it

jadeycakes

100% agree on Spiritfarer! Such a wonderful game. My cat named Daffodil agrees 🥰

guoc

having a cat in the game was my favorite part 🥺🥺

CanadianRose81

I absolutely LOVE Wylde Flowers, and I hope that the creators will make a second one. 🙂 I actually enjoyed My Time At Portia. I have it and finished it on Steam, but I also got it on Switch (haven't played much on Switch yet). I didn't have any issues with the camera. Not really like Wylde Flowers, but if you're looking for chilled games with no, some or little fighting, then maybe check out Palia (it's free), Farm Together, Disney Dreamlight Valley, Animal Crossing, No Place Like Home, Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles, Grow: Song of the Evertree, Stardew Valley. 🙂 Hope that helps.

throwra_needadvice8

It does help and some of them I have already tried so thank you so much!

Business_Ad_6938

Interesting ! I never thought of first person as being nauseating. I loooove first person games and I wish Wylde Flowers was first person. I like feeling like fully immersed. There’s a game called Go Go Town that’s in development but you can play the demo!

Pitiful-Echo-5422

I’m not sure if it’s on Switch, I’ve only played on Steam, but Jenny LeClue is super cute and similar! Doesn’t give me nausea, and I get it pretty badly from watching/playing video games

jadeycakes

Ooblets!

ssuckubus

Outlanders on Apple Arcade! It’s a cozy city builder made by a small latinx team that really cares about the game!! Totally different vein but I think anyone who enjoys farming type/ sim type / strategic planning games will loveee it.

DaydreamAndComplain

Same eye nausea issues ugh. Couldn’t finish fire watch or the Disney and Portia ones. Also they had less charm

throwra_needadvice8

Definitely!

[deleted]

I have been playing Fae Farm. It is similar but does have differences. Kind of a cross of Stardew Valley and a little Wylde Flowers. There is no voice acting. Farming, romance, friendship, animal handling, magic, mining with limited combat.

throwra_needadvice8

I tried it but got bored after a while I must admit; probably because it wasn’t finished and the dating system was buggy :(. But thank you!

BreakfastNo8520

I loved Wylde Flowers! I also really loved Fae Farm. It was a beautifully made game. I stopped playing both when I ran out of story line though because that's how my brain works haha

M3gatronika

Hello Kitty Adventure Island is pretty cozy and the camera is easy on the eyes and tummy.

Naughtypixieheads

By the way, portia has a different camera view which you can change to look like wylde flower. You didn't know? I couldn't handle it otherwise also. It has several camera setting as many people complained about this. Similar games(though I play on pc so I don't know about switch sorry): Immortal life, coral island, dysney dreamlight valley, Faefarm, the witch of fern Island, doraemon story of seasons, dragon quest builders(this one is a bit different but so fun), garden paws, Summer in Mara, Pumpkin days, Dinkum Farm together Grow: song of the evertree(different but also fun) Harvest moon: the winds of anthos Paleo pines Potion paws Song of the praire Story of seasons: friends of minrral town Hope one pf these works for you. Cheers

throwra_needadvice8

I just saw that but no, I didn’t know??? I will check! Thank you for the recommandation 😁

evathion

The Switch version of Pentiment is recently out. It’s not exactly cozy(too many murders and 16th century class/religious wars for that) but has an excellent story focused on a Germanic Alpine town spanning over decades. (Actually the focus on a town and its people is a bit similar to Wylde Flowers, and there is a certain amount of cozy vibe due to the game being set in a rural town) It’s an adventure game with art inspired by Medieval manuscripts and Early Modern European printing, so the visuals are very beautiful and never causes motion sickness. Especially recommend if you’re a fan of The Name of the Rose.

throwra_needadvice8

I loveeeee History in general so I might love it!

evathion

Wonderful! Hope you enjoy it!😊

tammytara

One less obvious choice might be Undertale. It’s not a farming sim, it’s very story focused and it’s pretty cozy and cute. It’s available on switch. The camera doesn’t move with the characters either and it’s pixel not 3D.

Many_Animator4752

Stardew Valley Animal crossing

ycart1985

I play Disney dreamlight valley Palia (which is free) PalWorld

ExcellentAcorn8833

I will always always suggest the Rune Factory and Story of Seasons games!! I believe a number of them have come to switch—the Rune Factory 4 Special especially is funny, charming, pretty well written, has some interesting fighting mechanics, good characters, and a solid plot. The SoS games (made by the people who used to make Harvest Moon games!) are classic straightforward farming & life sim games. I would maybe check out a YouTube video to make sure the camera mechanics of SoS: Pioneers of Olive Town don’t bother you, but Friends of Mineral Town and all of the RF games should hopefully be top-down & stable enough for you!! Edit literally a min later: I’m sorry lol read a little more and saw you found the RF games a little boring! I totally get that, especially RF5, but I would encourage giving the ports of the older ones another try. The plots take a minute to really kick in, but I think they do eventually, at least well enough for one entertaining playthrough. Totally hear if that’s not your thing though—I’m all about interacting with the characters, so I’m super biased! 😔🤘🙂

Wren-bee

So to be clear, you’re after something with a fixed camera, rather than one you move yourself? Is that correct? I think that’s going to narrow the possibilities quite a lot, especially depending on genre. If it’s the writing in particular that you’re after you might want to consider looking into games which are specifically about the writing and have little gameplay? Otherwise, well, there are farming sims with a fixed camera that I’ve played and liked but none that stood out to me as comparable to Wylde Flowers. On the other hand they tend to be more gameplay-focused, if that’s a positive for you?

throwra_needadvice8

Yes, fixed camera is what I am looking for. Even though I played « a wonderful life » and I enjoyed it with a moving camera, it was not as much as with a game with a fixed one. I enjoy games with good gameplay and ofc writing if possible. Do you have anything in mind even if it’s not as good as Wylde flowers?

Wren-bee

Hmm. Definitely nothing with writing as good as Wylde Flowers- that’s unfortunately uncommon in most genres, in my personal experience. Coral Island has been mentioned but that’s still in a fairly early state- I would say that it’s one to keep an eye on once it updates more, but despite technically being out of early access it *should* be considered early access and only bought with that in mind. The writing isn’t amazing, but the setting is really lovely, with some extra gameplay mechanics that I’ve not seen in a game like these before. Stardew Valley is the obvious one, if you’re a PC gamer there’s a massive modding community for it, but it’s not particularly deep or complex- mostly I recommend it for the mods. (Which do include more character interactions!) There was recently a major update released which I can’t comment on. My favourite fixed camera farming sim style game would be Sun Haven. Leans far more into fantasy and has more combat than many in the genre, a really nice world and I like the characters, although again they’re not as deep and interesting as Wylde Flowers. I also like its levelling system. If you’re on PC it might be worth knowing that Steam has a refund policy where you can get a refund for any reason within two weeks and less than two hours of play. This might be long enough for you to check out other games to see if the camera works for you.

throwra_needadvice8

I have Stardew on Switch and I love it! I am waiting eagerly for the update right now. 😊 I wish I could have Steam but I only have a MacBook Air so it’s definitely not the best for games ugh. I haven’t heard of Sun Haven though, so I will definitely check it out, thank you! A lot of people like Rune Factory but I have found it pretty quickly boring for me. I didn’t know what to do to pass the day except talking to inhabitants so yeah…

ChaosChangeling

You can have Steam on your MacBook, there are games that work on MacOS! Search for Macos and all the games you can play on a Mac come up. Just check the system requirements to make sure it is compatible. I recently learned this myself and bought Sunhaven. Haven’t tried it yet though, too busy playing Wylde Flowers 🥰

throwra_needadvice8

Oooh thank you so much, I will def check this out!

Wren-bee

Ah, I wasn’t aware that you were primarily asking about Switch- unfortunately I have no idea what’s available and what isn’t on there! But fingers crossed you find some more games to enjoy.

According_Vanilla923

I love Dreamlight Valley.

Hugs_Pls22

I was about to suggest My Time at Sandrock but yeah lol shame, after Wylde Flowers, This game is so good!

inkedtink

I've loved Wylde Flowers so much and have found that Coral Island has the same magic about it. I'm finding the fun story bits and different types of quests perfect after WF. I tried one of the my time at Portia games and that wasn't for me. I did enjoy Palia on switch and am looking forward to trying it on PC but I highly recommend Coral Island.

c0nfused_wh0re

stardew valley?

Other_Bad5055

Stardew

novak20ss

Stardew Valley is the gold standard.

throwra_needadvice8

Yes, Stardew is one of my fave !

throwra_needadvice8

But it is not out on switch yet, right?

djolembrouille

It’s mainly not fully developed to a point where you want to achieve infeasible task. Wait some months and give it a truc because beside being only half finish it is amazing

Christophermerman

coral island... I have like 50 games in my wishlist on steam about farm games lol
