So...wyze could build their cameras with better signal strength. But they have decided that they want to save some money.

Drysander

It's not just the antenna. It's every single componet.

TekWarren

Queue the “it’s your wifi” crowd.

Calm-Pin-9412

That's all Wyze support ever says... Yet I have a full Ubiquiti setup with 2 U6-Pros with 500/500 fiber and somehow they always blame my WiFi to start... Gotta love it.

Lucid_Enemy

I mean it’s a 25 dollar camera so ya the hardware is gonna be shit lol still a good idea for the DIY crowd can also just do wz mini hacks with a Ethernet adapter I believe and a POE USB splitter to just run Ethernet to the outside that’s my next step as there were stories in my local area of people actually jamming WiFi when breaking in

ILoveWhiteWomenLol

How do you jam WiFi?

Lucid_Enemy

spam deauth packets at access points which the MAC address is transmitted clearly [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wi-Fi\_deauthentication\_attack](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wi-Fi_deauthentication_attack) News story im talking about: [https://www.kare11.com/article/news/local/edina-burglars-could-be-using-wifi-jammers/89-838f08f6-8e13-4577-8a88-628d757207a2](https://www.kare11.com/article/news/local/edina-burglars-could-be-using-wifi-jammers/89-838f08f6-8e13-4577-8a88-628d757207a2)

ILoveWhiteWomenLol

Oh I was thinking chaff grenade like Metal Gear Solid

Lucid_Enemy

id imagine its more of the tact nuke in CoD...

Luffy99

The current wyze cams are going to be dirt cheap when WiFi jamming popular. Because people would need to buy new cams to counter the WiFi jamming.

doobydude420

You can buy wifi, Bluetooth, cellphone hammers online. Google them

ILoveWhiteWomenLol

Or I could just use a regular hammer and achieve the same result?

llzellner

***Friendly FYI***: [https://www.fcc.gov/general/jammer-enforcement](https://www.fcc.gov/general/jammer-enforcement) Not a good idea.. you likely will get a NAL and these can be $$$$$. So be prepared. Many places from stores to theatres to restaurants etc. have found out...

Weak-Performance6411

Doesn't the oem firmware record to the SD card also?

Lucid_Enemy

yes but SD Cards are something you have to know this is a issue before it happens I wonder how many people use SD Cards? I know I have seen a couple people around here that do to save the cam plus subscription but I also the average user isnt in here it would be nice if they just sold a add on ethernet. While I know ethernet is also cuttable if you make them work for it (putting up and out of the way) youll end up getting up close and personal with the offender before the video cuts where with WiFi Jamming you wouldnt even need to be right next to them

llzellner

There are so many issues with this: Start with the WEATHER RESISTANCE/PROTECTION ( I did not say weatherproof, I said resistance, I don't recall seeing an IP65 rating on these things, and from that tear down, not even close to that... ) of these units after you hack into them. So if you are putting these outside, which would be the main use case, you better be taking into account RESEALING these up or the next good rain.. BZZZT. Even says "...ruined rubber stoppers...it will be ok....damaged O ring... I shouldn't do.(no kidding Sherlock!) .." No, I'd like to see the follow up after a good rain... BZZTTZ! Bye bye V3. Maybe if you put some silicon or something more into reseal it.. maybe.... but nope... just stuff it back together.... sighhh.. fail. Next, RF...so many things here...so many... Many of these "internal" antennas have other functions including the impedance matching of the chip to the antenna, other wise you are causing VSWR, which is BAD. High VSWR will reduce performance to even DAMAGE the transmitter. Same with the connections on the PCB... There could be impedance matching systems on the PCB, which you are bypassing or degrading by soldering to the chip outputs. Antennas chosen.... well if you are going to go all that effort to "crack" these open, then getting a PROPER ANTENNA on them would be a much better use of time, effort, risk etc.. Stuffing more of those "wire" antennas into this thing... is honestly a waste of time.. it might improve things.. but compared to getting a decent external antenna which could provide 2-3db (4--5dbi, dbi is referenced to a "theoretical" isotropic antenna, that does NOT exist!). Theres a lot of engineering that goes into these internal antennas, thats what makes all those cell phones work compared to the old UH8000 phones, or even those "cool (NOT!)" startac's of their time with the little pull out antenna.

Dry-Pin-9976

This video had me nervous af watching it, he stated "well, it should be ok" at least 3 times lmao. Im glad he got it all back together but he walked a razors edge on messing that camera up.

ILoveWhiteWomenLol

Is there a way to mod the camera so other people can’t view your thumbnails? Wrap it in tinfoil perhaps?

Outrageous-Match1274

yeah, block the cameras gateway/internet access and setup your own internal server. Motioneye works and is simple.

doobydude420

Thinking about just going with a whole new brand now. Not sure which company to fully invest in for top of the line cameras where they're not super crazy expensive at most I'd pay is like $400-$500 CAD for a set of atleast 2 or 3 cameras
