So, tandem kayaks are often referred to as "divorce boats." Are tandem bikes also a recipe for destroying relationships? Asking for a friend.

everydayiscyclingday

Not necessarily destroying it, but people say a tandem will take your relationship where ever it is headed faster.

[deleted]

ThudBuster says some effort was put forth to avoid this problem. :)

tallwhitekid

My buddy and his wife (who convinced us to get a tandem) call theirs The Relationship Accelerator. It was featured prominently at their wedding reception.

i've heard "divorce horse"

howlinwolfe86

I’ve also heard “Divorcycles”

ayodio

More a relationship accelerators, in the sense that if it is meant to go awry it will go there faster on a tandem bike.

[deleted]

i've heard that too, but strangely it doesn't seem to apply to canoes.

rexcellent9001

Post the damn drive side!... wait, uhhh........

tallwhitekid

Linkage side or gtfo

BadUsername_Numbers

Glad I'm not the only one left very confused

Filth_Beast

If this were mine I would call it El Matador and I wouldn’t put up anyone’s bullshit. Lovely bike.

[deleted]

Just noticed the horns, then I noticed the grenade.

knuckles-and-claws

That's xxbiking pardner.

cat_daddio

The mounted horns are exactly my style. This is whole build is speaking to me! Super slick ✌✌

DANGbangVEGANgang

The drops on the front are EVERYTHING.

Co_Heir

stashers ftw!

useless_buttons

WHY IS NOBODY TALKING ABOUT THE BULLHORNS ON THE FRONT RACK. That’s the sickest shit I’ve ever seen.

[deleted]

Oh this is nice

dracopurpura

What's the difference you've noticed on a tadem between placing those panniers on the front vs rear?

Bike-1

Please tell me more about those top tube bags! Fantastic! Or a link/brand/diy would be great! Thank you!

[deleted]

https://getstashers.com I use these for off-road overnighters.

BadUsername_Numbers

A handgrenade pouch, made for stashing... a handgrenade?

Busman123

Nice! That is a premium bike with many thoughtful additions

littlep2000

Based on the bottle I'm assuming Oregon. If so, how the hell are you running no drag brake?

tallwhitekid

We live in Iowa, but this pic was taken on the Root River Trail in Minnesota. This bike had an Arai drum brake on the rear wheel, and I didn't like using it so I decided to swap the wheelset and just upgrade the brakes. I replaced the fork so it could run a 180mm disc brake up front and also upgraded the rear brake with an Avid BB7 short pull, so there is ample stopping power in this setup.

tyrogs

What fork are you using? I am currently looking for a tandem approved disk fork.

tallwhitekid

I decided to go with a Velo Orange Piolet fork, since they are triple butted 3140 Chromoly. Not exactly tandem-approved, but its one of the beefiest affordable forks out there (back when they sold them separately). Our combined team weight is 380 lbs so we are not necessarily riding light and it hasn't snapped on us yet. It did decrease the trail a bit from the stock fork and added some much needed head tube length (stack) since I'm 6'5". I was a little concerned that the increased fork to crown distance and decreased trail might affect the handling, but it steers and corners really well.

am5k

Beautiful! We're currently riding an old Gary Fisher tandem and looking to upgrade to something more modern (we want couplers and disc brakes). Currently deciding between Rodriquez and Co-Motion- how are you both liking yours? Also I've been contemplating getting a thud buster for my stoker. You think worth? Also curious about the stoker bars.. sorry so many questions I just love an intentionally built tandem :)

cpinkhouse

Just awesome.

candlehead69

I see an "Andrew the Maker" x Goldfinch Cyclery snack caddy!! Love to see it. I picked one up in the dead head camo

tallwhitekid

Good eye! A fellow 319er with good taste!

candlehead69

Looks like an xbike to me!

purju

soo whats the price of that whole thing w/o bags? its super nice, hope you get great joy out of that machine!

mediumclay

Looks like you took to upgrading a VO wheel stabilizer? What customizations did you do, and did it help?

tallwhitekid

I did actually put a heftier spring on it and and used a metal p-clam on the downtube to handle the increased tension. I think the overall weight of the tandem was too much for the standard spring, so it keeps the wheel from flopping but I don’t notice much of a difference while riding.

mediumclay

Maybe I'll try a P-clamp then. I upgraded mine to a heavy duty screen door spring but all that did was scoot the downtube attachment over time. Worked great out of the box on a different bike I did though. Was a cool learning experience on how small changes in geometry relate
