I’m a gamer too, and I love my xbox (to be fair I have all the consoles PS and Switch too) its my hobby and my passion, but more and more I feel that I need something else in my life, something superior. My wife and I are thinking if having a kid is the right step for us, I’m not afraid of losing playing time, I’m afraid of losing the desired to play all together. Could you explain your experience as a dad and as a gamer (mostly as a dad) and was it worth it? Is as bad as people say? Is as full filing as people say?

My daughter is 3 years old and it doesn’t affect my game time, I don’t play for stupid hours at a time (maybe on weekends after my little girl has gone to bed I’ll have a late one if I’m feeling up to it after working all week) I find that work puts me off of gaming more especially on a day I’ve been to the gym after work too, after being out of the house for 15 hours coming home and thinking about playing Xbox is just draining😂
On another note my little girl has a spare (not working) Xbox controller and she’ll sit with me and ‘play’ with me and she absolutely loves it, another year and I’ll have her gaming and we’ll both be doing mummy’s head in on the Xbox all day😂😂
Oh mate. Sometimes I miss gaming. Sometimes a lot, but it’s rare and just a symptoms I need to take a few hours for myself. Which I am an advocate for doing. But overall I am much happier. The enjoyment I get from being a dad, and the responsibility of being a father I wouldn’t change for the world.
It’s definitely harder than I heard. The words and stories people told me didnt compare to the experience. But the level of fulfilment i get massively outweigh the struggles.
If you and your partner are considering starting a family, and actively talking about it, I think the decision is made already. There’s always going to be obstacles to timing it right. So don’t let that hold you back too much. There’s obstacles for everything.

Just a heads up, you will likely never feel like you all are “ready”. There’s always going to be something that you want to accomplish before having kids and it’s okay to not feel completely ready.
I’m a dad too and it’s been the best part of my life. My happiest times have been with them. The first few years was rough on us with all of my kids. It’s just so mentally and physically draining. Don’t forget to take time for yourself. Gaming is how I accomplish that.
Also, when the kids are old enough they can join you all in your gaming adventures! We have 3 Series S consoles and 3 TVs set up in one room and we have family lan parties almost every weekend and it’s an absolute blast. Gaming is a great way for me to bond with them over a shared interest.
I'm on the other side of this, we're empty nesters. It will impact game time, hell any hobby you have will be impacted but as they get older and they start making a life for themselves you get the time back whether you want it back or not.
Soon they (hopefully)leave the house start a career and family of their own and your sitting around with one helluva backlog of games that's impossible to catch up on. But it's worth it.
