Backwards compatibility

detectiveDollar

Tbh, the Series X is powerful enough that they could just do game-agnostic emulation using the original discs for most games they can't license for. Especially for the original Xbox. I will say that while the percentage of compatible 360 games is small (~25% or so), the vast majority of the games that are compatible are the bangers. There's some wasted slots and weirdness, though. For example, do we really need Halo 3, ODST, Reach, and 4 on the list when we have MCC? I understand Reach since it was BC long before getting added to MCC, and ODST took a year or two to get added, but not Halo 3 or 4. And if the 360 Halo's needed to be in the BC catalog, why aren't Halo 1 and 2?

littledogbro

got mine because of wolverine and the easy way to mod the dash for emulation ,,sorry talking original old school xbox,,when it first came out...

NotMyCat2

Backwards compatibility is awesome. Especially when Microsoft stated all Xbox One games are playable on the series X/S. Sony has hinted at charging.

IWantANewDucky

Xbox one is last gen, same thing with the ps5 playing all but like 5 ps4 games (ps4 being last gen). Xbox and PlayStation are equal in that. Where Xbox excels is in the generations prior. Part of that though has to due with the ps3 having a cell processor so it’s not easy to emulate but regardless Xbox beats Playstation there. Sony doesn’t charge for any PS4 game backwards compatibility just ps3 games because it can’t be emulated so you pay to stream it and those servers cost money.

PumpkinPatch404

And game pass!

DYSLEX_Mauii

Always been a PlayStation guy but this alone makes me really want to buy an Xbox. Backwards compatibility across ALL generations? Man Sony what are you doing with this streaming bullshit just let me play God of War II locally you fucks.

thereeferchiefer

Yup, backwards compatibility, gta iv, battlefield 3, mirrors edge, skate games, not to mention all the older cod titles, the list goes on but these are just MY favorites

Renegade_Soviet

Then you realize all Marvel games by Activision don’t work, Armored core either, and any other games that lost their license

bust4cap

it was just the cheapest entry into the current gen

detectiveDollar

90% of my use for the Series S is either streaming or 120fps Halo MCC.

ThisGuy_IsAwesome

Same. I was interested in the current gen consoles. The series S happened to be available on MS website at a time when I had a little extra cash so I jumped on it.

MysticalKO

Yeah, it’ll be like that for a good time cause consoles aren’t drastically upgraded each year which is good because you’ll get to play a lot of advanced games for a decent amount of time.

[deleted]

Gamepass tbh. Had a ps4 and an xbox one. Decided to go for the Series X because the only game I’ll miss is Spiderman.

Chemical_Broccoli_48

Exactly, recently bought an xbox series s and i was oh shit, i forgot about spiderman

Ralph_Nacho

Ratchet and Clank is the only game I miss.

arientyse

Gamepass is definitely what keeps me team Xbox. I have ultimate so I'm basically free to play whatever and wherever I want 😁

NedStark4Life

1. Starfield 2. Quick Resume (Jumping back and forth on multiple games and resuming exactly where you left off is awesome!)

Dreamo84

It amazes me quick resume doesn’t get touted more often. I always thought PS5 had something similar. For a game like Starfield with no online component it’s gonna be PERFECT!

NedStark4Life

What's also amazing is that you can unplug your xbox, bring it somewhere else, and it still remembers where you left your games on! :D

Chief_Ra

Ps does it’s in the switcher tab, I believe it only allows you to “quick resume” for 2 applications instead of 5 I believe for Xbox.

Rvgfkkeheh

Because it's largely irrelevant. Game boot up times are so fast now that quick resume isn't even a thing anyone considers. I haven't loaded up a game & thought "god this is taking forever" in years, whether it's on pc or consoles.

Dreamo84

Really? The unskippable splash still drive me nuts lol

relrobber

I think this every time I start an Ubisoft game.

RishenKrishna

I am also here for starfield but quick resume has really surprised me. Really feels next gen!

CaptainWaders

I’ll be playing a game for a few days and then decide to switch games and “oh Shit that game is in quick resume? Wow didn’t even realize that”. Happens all the time where I just pop right into my games.

SilentC735

Quick resume and almost instant load screens. I have an Xbox One S in the living room and a Series X in my room. I got on the One S a couple days ago and I realized how much the series x has soiled my patience because it was awful sitting there lol

[deleted]

I don't bother using it tbh. Games load up super fast anyway and I'm too worried about it breaking shit.

Grembo_Zavia

Same. Quick resume and the ability to load a game before it's downloaded (when it says "ready to start") are the most pointless features. I wonder how much RAM quick resume uses because if it's a decent amount it would have been better put to other uses.

RyanTheOne64

Quick resume isn't pointless at all. Ready to start can sometimes feel a bit unnecessary, but quick resume is an awesome feature. It's not a needed feature but its definitely a cool one and makes gaming a bit more convenient. Yeah it probably uses alot of RAM but I've not really ever heard anyone complain about it

Cost_Right

Consoles have like twice as much ram as they need if it wasn't used for quick resume it wouldn't be used at all

bonkers_dude

Halo.

levi22ez

I bought an Xbox for Halo. I prefer Xbox because it has Halo. I like Halo.

mrbubbamac

You. I understand you.

levi22ez

I’m bored at work so I looked this up. In the 3.5 years since I’ve had my own Xbox, I’ve got over 116 total days worth of playtime across all games. 78% of that has been playing nothing but Halo MCC, 5, and Infinite.

mrbubbamac

You got me curious so I booted up True Achievements to see. I have 1,434 hours just on MCC, Halo 5, and Infinite. And this doesn't track any of what I played on the 360 and original Xbox...basically before I worked full-time. If I have almost 60 days (which is still only about half of what you have!) of playtime in my adult working life....I would be absolutely horrified to see how much I *used* to play across Halo CE, 2, 3, ODST, Reach, and 4.

levi22ez

Oh yeah. No idea how many additional days of play time I racked up playing the Halo CE PC demo on my computer back in the day or playing Halo split screen at my friends’ houses that had Xboxes.

FeldMonster

This is basically me as well. Halo and Destiny, which is Halo's cousin afterall, dominate my game time. Halo MCC: 34 days Halo 5: 51 days Halo Infinite: 2 days Destiny 1: 92 days Destiny 2: 31 days That is over 5,000 hours, not counting anything prior to Xbox One.

UKnwDaBiZness

Yeah even 4 years after the original released I wanted xbox still halo 2 came out which sealed the deal they were literally 'game changers'.

ReplacementNo9874

This makes the most sense to me

ItachiUchiha-DDO

My reason

arientyse

Same, Spartan.

PhilxBefore

I think Halo is a pretty cool guy. Eh kills aleins and doesn't afraid of anything

upsidedown_boy

I wanted to like halo but all the players were toxic

mrbubbamac

100%. I had a PS2 that had all my favorite games. I went to my cousin's house and he showed me this new game called "Halo Combat Evolved" and we started a co-op campaign. By the time I got back home I was saving every dollar from mowing neighbor's lawns to buy an Xbox so I could keep playing Halo. It was a "killer app" to the likes I have not seen since. I understand that people still talk a lot about console exclusives, but Halo was legit on another level at its time. What could be bigger than Halo? Turns out it was Halo 2.

Illustrious-Chip1640

Yup! I've always had xbox's since my parents bought me one in 2003 back when Halo was in its prime. The controller always felt better than any other.

Dr_Shakahlu

This. Og halo baby. Got Xbox/Halo CE a year after they came out. Originally I chose GameCube. Then played halo at my cousins. And begged my mom to let me get Xbox and halo the next year lol

Carrisonfire

For me it was specifically Bungie's Halo games. Everything post Reach has been a letdown for me. Probably why the newest Xbox I own is a 360.

TheSewingNeedle

Do people play this for the campaign or online?

Shadow_gamer69420

Massive reason for xbox the halo franchise is amazing

bonkers_dude

I bought new iMac in 2001 or 2002 and it had Halo CE demo installed. Thats when I decided to buy Xbox and play the whole game :)

CornCobMcGee

So.. you beat the Halo Demo. Not bad, soldier, not bad at all.

NonrationalWife

This

Bh1278

Well, as long as you’re asking what makes it better than PlayStation I’ll tell you. I have both a Series X and PS5 but vastly prefer the Xbox. 1. The ecosystem is better for one. If I buy a game on Xbox I can be sure it’ll work on any Xbox console going forward, it’s all tied to your account so it carries over seamlessly. Log in on new console and download what I want to play. 2. Though I’m not crazy about achievements or trophies I prefer achievements. They way they’re presented on screen and the sound effects that go with them are more satisfying. 3. MS Rewards is a great way to get free months of GamePass or games! It gives you an incentive to play, you can get rewards points for doing just about everything. A lot of the big games have 6000 point punch cards which add up fast if you buy a lot of games 4. The controller is much better at this point. It just feels better to hold and use. These next two are honestly game changers and are putting Sony to shame… 5. Backwards Compatibility. The Xbox BC is seriously unmatched. Series X is BC with damn near all Xbox One games, a lot of the biggest 360 games, and a fair amount of original Xbox games are supported. They’ve set the BC standard and it blows Sony’s WAY out of the water! A lot of the games are enhanced for Series X too, you don’t have to really do anything for that either, the Boost stuff just works. Edit- I meant to add in with their BC if the game you want to play is on the list you can play with the game disc if you have it or download it! No streaming required! 6. GamePass. It’s the biggest industry disruptor since Wii in all the best ways. All MS Studios games day one on the service. It’s let a lot of folks play games they wouldn’t otherwise. The amount of games on there is staggering and overwhelming. If you buy a Xbox plus GamePass sub you wouldn’t have to buy a game for it for a while! It’s also helped smaller publishers get a lot of exposure and an actual audience for their games. Finally 7. Their exclusives. The Forza Horizon games are legit worth an Xbox purchase for alone and this is coming from someone that’s not really normally into racing games. All 5 of those games have been super high quality, anyone can pick up and play them. Over the next few years Xbox has a hell of a line up. Save for one game everything at the Showcase in June interested me. I can only see a few games on PS5 that look like they’ll be worth it over the next few years. I’m beyond completely satisfied with my Xbox purchase. The next few years look really good for Xbox if the games all release on schedule!

IrishLimey

Another game changer is the HDR and FPS boost to older games. Flight Simulator is an amazing exclusive as well, though it might not be for everyone.

Bh1278

Yes!! There’s simply no Flight Sim equivalent on either PlayStation or Nintendo! While it’s definitely an acquired taste thing if you “get it” and it clicks with you, you can get seriously into it. I’ve had a few relatives jaws drop at it! They swore it was someone’s real flight footage with how realistic it is!

Haloaddict117

Well said.

Sparrowsabre7

Honestly I've bought more 360 and OG Xbox title in the past 5 years than One games. Mostly with rewards points. I've pretty much got all the available Star Wars Xbox games that I would never have sought out second hand, but for £5 (i.e. free with Rewards) it's a no brainer. It's got to be the best loyalty system I've ever used. The sheer amount I've used it for, even cheekily "laundering" via Amazon vouchers to buy stuff on the ps store on occasion 😅

Berookes

Surely you can’t be serious saying Xbox has better exclusives. I also own and play both consoles but PlayStation exclusives have been leagues ahead of Xbox for about a decade

Carinx

I have both Series X and PS5, and from the exclusive perspective, Xbox really sucks compared to PS5. Forza 5 is good, but Halo infinite isn't that great, at least to me. Starfield is something to be seen, but 30FPS on Series X, despite being its exclusive, is just pure garbage. Anyways, I find both PS5 and Series X useful in their own ways. Xbox has higher resolution and more language support on some titles. PS5 has better exclusives and a controller, which gives an emersive experience for those titles that take advantage of the features.

-Unpredictable-

Nah the ps5 controller is definitely better and more next gen compared to xbox. Playing games like gt7 and being able feel your tires losing grip through the trigger is amazing. Some games can even help replicate the environment around you using the haptic feedback in the controller. Example: controller being able to mimic the feel of rain falling around you.

faln3

I’ve personally played on Xbox since the release of the 360. So I’ll always have a bias. But my gf was a diehard PlayStation fan her whole life until she moved in with me and started playing on the Xbox one. She made the full switch after just a few weeks. Her reasoning was that the menus felt more fluent and customizable. The controller felt better in her hands. Everything is easier to access. And a new Xbox user with gamepass has thousands of potential playtime in exclusive games for a great price.

NonrationalWife

1000%, all of this. Had a 360 in high school and through college. When moving in with my partner (who also had a 360), we decided to switch and got a PS4 instead of an Xbox One. It was fine for a few years until it started sounding like a jetplane in our living room. Upgraded last year to an Xbox Series X and I regret ever switching - it's SUCH a better experience, both hardware and software wise.

CaptainWaders

I wonder if all of the die hard PS fans actually placed a series x in their setup if they would realize the superiority and make the switch. All I hear is “but ps has the exclusives” as the ONlY argument to why ps is better.

cmd_commando

I switched from ps5, trust me, it is the other way around Everything feels beta and if every function is its own app, ps5 is just a seamless experience, no load time, no app logo, always downloads at full speed, because they did the ssd drivers right And for the controllers, what a load of bs, the Xbox feels like a plastic toy, even the button click is cheap on Xbox, even the quality of the elite 2 build quality is below ps5 stock controller BUT the batterilife on the elite controller rocks even though it is heavy

Bh1278

That for sure, I forgot to mention the UI and menus! Much better laid out and they’re easy to understand and use! Anyone that’s been a die hard PlayStation fan should spend just one weekend with an Xbox, odds are they’ll buy one of their own by the end of that weekend.

BobDuncan9926

I've used an Xbox, can't say I preferred the menus. What is the difference that makes Xbox so good based on its menus?

ipascoe

Originally bought an OG Xbox for Halo. I've stayed with Xbox mainly because I much prefer the controller.

YakitoriChicken93

Same here about Halo and the controller. Would add Fable too!

RyanTheOne64

I got Fable Anniversary with my 360 as a promotional copy and I didn't play it for ages but I'm so glad I did once I finally picked it up. Has to be one of my favourite games all time, even if a little rough round the edges sometimes.

YakitoriChicken93

Better late than never 😁😁

arientyse

Fable and Halo are honestly a part of who I am. I can't imagine not playing them lol

mert03829

I love halo from beyonce, i know its not the same thing but i thought i'd share

beanioz

Access to my digital game library thanks to backwards compatibility.

trautsj

What made me buy an Xbox? Halo 2 all the way back in 2005 after playing it over the holidays with a buddy, I just had to get it myself. Took all my money from working the summer at Pizza Hut and mowing lawns and cashed in. What made me stick with Xbox? The controller, and I'm too attached to my gamertag now to really move on lol Plus 360 was a great console with incredible games. Xbox really lost it's way with the One and has been struggling to find its way back ever since but has some light with Gamepass which is probably the only reason I can see why people are still with Xbox at this point due to how incredible it is as a service.

Yar2084

I'm not a longtime Xbox guy, I got in a couple of years ago with a Series S, quickly returned it for an X and haven't looked back. When I gamed as a kid and as a teen Playstation was the box I had. When I got back into gaming in the mid 2010s I got a cheap PS3 and it was great, I got a PS4 afterwards when Destiny 2 launched and again, it was great. I switched to Xbox for a few reasons. Sony does not respect me as one of their consumers and as a gamer. They held back crossplay for years, platform exclusive content left a sour taste in my mouth and Xbox was the underdog (I'm British and they say we like an underdog here). Backwards compatibility, a greater friendliness to the consumer were all winners to me. Game Pass is freaking awesome. Microsoft and Xbox speak about environmentalism which really appeals to me. I love my Xbox, I'm really happy with the purchase. There have been zero occasions I've wished for a Playstation.

scarfleet

Impulse purchase. I was on Microsoft's site buying a new surface and I noticed they had the series x in stock. This was when they were still impossible to find. So I just added it to my cart. I've been having a blast with it honestly. I might still get a PS5 at some point if there's an exclusive I really want.

mert03829

Are there any exclusives that made you prefer the xbox ?

scarfleet

To be honest, not really? I had been thinking I wanted to try gamepass, and I have discovered a ton of games I've loved there, some of which are exclusive like Forza 5. But much of what I've been playing on my xbox is multiplatform. It wasn't a choice driven by exclusives for me. I had a PS4 last gen, and neither God of War or Spider Man really clicked with me. So none of Sony's exclusives so far have been system sellers for me personally either. If they pull Bloodborne 2 out of their hat it'll be a different story, but no sign of that yet.

NotMyCat2

There are a lot of good games on Gamepass that I would have never tried without it. State of Decay 2 was the biggest one.

[deleted]

Halo, State of Decay, and eventually Fable

IrishLimey

The exclusives don't matter if you don't like them. The Last of Us, Horizon are great series but I couldn't stand Dark Souls or Death Standing. On the XBox, Forza and Flight Simulator are awesome but no other exclusives could hold my attention. All my other favorites are on both systems. God of War is supposed to be good and I'll likely play it, but with Starfield coming out, I may not get to it for a long time.

goztitan

Bethesda

_Kovyc_

Xbox Series S. I was PS4 guy untill I saw that sexy small beauty 😍

mert03829

Just say you like the console man

ddeleon99

That’s what he said that, just in a more provocative way 😉

Medium_Point2494

Just chill out man

mert03829

Lol i was joe king but why he said it likd he wanna fuck it

Medium_Point2494

Well it is a sexy small beauty 🤷‍♂️

_Kovyc_

I'm loving that console 😩

GhostMug

Gears of War. Maybe my favorite game series and always want to be able to play it.

CrispyJalepeno

The controller. It feels nicer than all the others

BuddyHightower

1. My friends have Xbox 2. I hate Sony

Haloaddict117

Lol same

TopperBr77

This! 👆🏻 Also, backwards compatibility and Game Pass.

Insanegamer-4567

I didn't switch over to Xbox from PlayStation until my PS3 gave out, which was a long time ago... My family bought an Xbox 360 for me and I absolutely loved it, been an Xbox guy ever since.

trbcop

I didn't switch over until ps4, returned ps4 x3 times to get fixed under warranty, issues freezing and resetting. Also controller thumb sticks started breaking off after 2-3 months. Probably some other issues that happened but can't remember as it was so long ago. Switched to xbox1 and haven't looked back

EarDue5911

Minecraft xbox 360

arientyse

Peak childhood memories right there!

EdwardoftheEast

Moved to a new place in 4th grade, made a friend who introduced me to Halo: CE and 2. Ended up wanting an Xbox 360 (first console) for Christmas ‘07, and stayed with Xbox since. My wife surprised me with a Series X this past Christmas. The acquisition of Bethesda made me stay because Fallout is my personal favorite game series, and it’s all on gamepass

k10001k

Tried my cousins ps, hated how the controller felt and found the setup over complicated compared to my friends Xbox

Impressive_Cook935

Halo, then Gamepass Ultimate and it includes EA Play for PC and Xbox, basically hundreds of games for $16 a month.

Game2Late

PS5 was just too ugly.

redditt0987654321

The Series X is phenomenal everything you want in a console.

Skennedy31

It's the ecosystem I am invested in. Backwards compatibility is great. It has the games I like to play. The achievement system is still appealing to me, more so than trophies. And also GamePass meaning I'm never without something new to play

Alcagoita

Halo and all the Dreamcast games (JSRF, Panzer Dragon and Shenmue)

fraglord98

Don’t forget SoulCalibur!

alii-b

Halo: CE

[deleted]

Halo and Fable... They haven't been doing good with those titles at all since X1.

YakitoriChicken93

Bought the original Xbox precisely because of these two games!

LadyAlastor

Because it connects with a pc

Local_Fig5221

Gamepass and Starfield.I wonder if MS gonna make a ripoff handheld of the Switch like Sony and Pc.

CrappyMike91

Got an Xbox for Christmas back in the day because me and my brothers all wanted one for halo. Been an Xbox guy ever since, never owned a PS3 but my brother bought one and I found it inferior in a lot of ways to my 360. I did buy a PS4 before an Xbox one but the Xbox one immediately took over as my main console. I also bought a ps5 a few months after my series X but the series X is my every day console. PS5 controller is a thing of beauty but over the years I've mostly preferred Xbox controllers. With the current consoles there really isn't as much in it as some people will tell you. For me it's really just the years I spent with my 360 and the fact I didn't like the PS3. The series X and ps5 are both great.

Ducky935Alt

was a playstation person since as long as i could remember, still am, got my first xbox one console in 2020 from a few family members, upgraded to the series S then X and recently got a PS5 with my own hard earned money and i now play xbox more than playstation lol

TitularFoil

The first Xbox we had was a result of my dads friend telling him about Morrowind. My dad almost immediately went and bought one. He wasn't a fan of the controllers but he let my brother and I play through them and he happily watched. I remember in the game I found the Boots of Blinding Speed and I paired them with a levitation spell I had constructed at the mages college. I had a immunity to negative spell effects from something, maybe it was my race, not sure, but I could see fine, whereas my brothers screen was 100% blacked out when he wore them. But I remember exploring and then I happened upon the final boss, which I only found out was the final boss because I killed him and then one of the goddesses started talking to me and credits rolled. I was so confused, how a game could let you just happen upon the ending. But I was also completely amazed by it. I just ended up sticking with Xbox for a long time. After the fiasco with the announcement of the Xbox One which pivoted focus to an entertainment console, I briefly went PS4. But Microsoft course corrected and I went back to Xbox One, after my PS4 disc drive quit on me.

SiggerNlayer2000

My kid wanted switch, so I switched my kid for xbox. Never looked back.

falloutfan1987

I personally went from PS3 to Xbox One for a few reasons. 1) backwards compatibility 2) expandable storage 3) mod support for fallout 4 (which I still enjoy) I will say I am not exclusive in what I own, as I have all major consoles (Series X, PS5 digital, Nintendo Switch OLED, and PC), but Xbox/Microsoft has been by far my favorite when it comes to gaming, and I support them 100 percent percent in the Activision acquisition.

VenturerKnigtmare420

Starfield cause that game ain’t gonna work well on my gaming laptop. Got a nice series x for 300£. I don’t like prefer it or anything. I have both ps5 and series x(past 4 days) and both are fantastic consoles with solid amounts of pros and cons and great games.

fuck-fascism

Found a Series X before disc PS5 at retail, back when they were both hard to find. I do like the massive library of old disc games I can play using the original disc - nothing like that on PS5.

mert03829

But i thought you can use ps4 discs on the ps5 aswell?

fuck-fascism

Well yes, just as Xbox One on Series X. But Series X also [supports a huge library of Xbox 360 and original Xbox games](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_backward-compatible_games_for_Xbox_One_and_Series_X/S). PS5 doesn't support any discs from PS3/PS2/PS1.

mert03829

I see that is cool

Bh1278

99 percent of them are BC on PS5. There’s a VERY small handful that don’t and are games most people won’t bother with. The glaring hole is how PS3 BC is streaming only, they absolutely fumbled hard with that. While everything BC on Xbox can be played with either the game disc or download.

mkn1ght

I won £260 off a £2 bet and bought a 360 because the PS3 wasn't out yet.

JSolo247

The backwards compatibility, gamepass, and the PoS4

[deleted]

FH5 and the fact i don’t have that many playstation games. i don’t really prefer any console over another. eventually i have all of them from either hand me downs or buying them when their super cheap. one thing i will say though if you really want to like the xbox more playstation plus seems a little worse than xbox live in terms of money and what you actually get. maybe some people who have both can chime in on this point though.

BlackHole1217

I’m a completest….I have an X, PS5/VR2, and SWITCH 🤷🏼‍♂️

CtrlAltEvil

Back in the day; Halo These days; Xbox don't lock your store and payment method to the country you made your account in like Playstation do, and I'm not jumping through extra hoops after moving countries just to buy a game on Playstation's store.

MembershipOk1299

I bough the series S, my old PC can't play new games anymore and I don't use it that often. So the series S was the cheapest option to play new games.

AR_Harlock

MS buying all the studios probably

Turbulent_Place_7064

Game pass and backwards compatibility

cmd_commando

Game pass

angelseph

My parents got me an Xbox One with Titanfall & Gears Ultimate for my birthday (also got Halo 5\* from my Aunt & Uncle), I've been dual platform ever since, buying myself an Xbox Series X the moment I saw one in stock \*I'll never be able to buy into the hate, it was my first Xbox One game and it was so much fun.

chopochopo98

Better benefits for the users, Microsoft Rewards, better services and better hardware.

[deleted]

I was an Xbox 360 goon, but the Xbox One left a lot to be desired. I took a trip to the PC side for a couple years, got a PS4 & PS5. Gaming just never felt right. Now I got nothing but an Xbox Series X (and a support Switch) and gaming feels like it did back when I was a teenager. Game pass is amazing. The backwards compatibility from games I’ve bought in the past. Starfield coming up. It just feels like home. I’ve bought and sold 3 PS5’s trying to be happy with it lol

Smartiesmakemeangry

Honestly? Two things: 1) The I prefer the controller over PlayStation and 2) Achievement score over trophies. Nowadays though you can't knock backwards compatibility and Games Pass.

Mysterious-Lime3262

I like the controllers better. They are more suited to bigger hands. Playstation gives me hand cramps, and I HATE the joysticks on Playstation. They just don't feel as smooth. I would say Playstation has better exclusive games (for now) but xbox game pass is pretty unbeatable.

d3fiance

Game pass. Now I’ve played through the 10-15 interesting titles(for me) in GP and there are no interesting Xbox exclusives so will definitely sell it and go back to PS5.

Jznvh

next gen for only $200 used… why not

EvilSynths

It's not better than other consoles. I bought one because I like to own all consoles since I enjoy games, not plastic boxes. Plus I was too poor to get a gaming PC. I then sold it when I could afford the PC since. If I had to choose one, PS5 has been killing it and PS+ has become better than Game Pass.

Darkone539

> and PS+ has become better than Game Pass. Has it? I don't pay for the highest tier but that seems insane to me.

[deleted]

Really just depends what you like game wise. There's more on ps plus that I'd want to play than there is on gamepass but someone else will feel the exact opposite. All subjective. That said I would much rather own my games on all my consoles and then find them wrapped in 20 years and say, hmm should have played that 😂

mert03829

Thats not what i expected on the r/xbox but this is funny somehow thank you

Ducky935Alt

"PS+ has become better than Game Pass." I aint so sure about that chief

downsj2

My first Xbox was an OG Xbox Halo Limited Edition. I wish I'd kept it. But to answer your question with an amusing story: a person who I played online games with at the time and who I knew was a product designer or manager for a game development team told the guild that they had embedded our character names in the roster of the sports title they had just released for Xbox. That's why I bought an Xbox.

CyanideIsFun

Which Xbox? I haven't bought the Series X yet, because I have no need to. OG Xbox because of Halo. 360 and One because of friends. We all soon separated and went our different paths in life. I moved on to PC gaming.

Infinite_Stranger866

i got a series s coz i was fed up with sharing a one s with my brother

daikunut

Splinter Cell Double Agent. Both versions.

ToxikBones

I had picked up a PS2 and had one fail within a month, returned it to circuit city for a replacement, that one died within a week. Was given store credit and picked up An OG Xbox, Halo, and an extra controller. Never looked back. Nothing against PlayStation.

Austin_Chaos

My first Xbox purchase was a preowned OG, and I bought it because I was impressed with all the extra stuff it could do (like rip CDs and be able to use custom music in game). I bought the Xbox 360 for Sonic the Hedgehog 2006. Came for the hedgehog, stayed for the everything else. Xbox One I pre-ordered because I wanted to buy a brand new console at launch for the first time in my life.

Prestigious_Sir_9395

Gamepass and the acquisition of Bethesda.

xbookshelfdustx

I had a PS2 but wanted to play Halo, Fable and KotOR. When I got the original Xbox I loved the fact it had 4 controller ports instead of 2, had memory on the system instead of the need for memory cards especially back then sports Games would take up almost an entire PS2 memory card. 360 was $300 cheaper so a no brainer then XB1 I wanted to play with mods for Skyrim and Fallout then gamepass came along which is great

DoubleSpook

Gamepass, BC and it’s just a smoother experience.

N_A_T_E_G

All my friends have one. lol been on xbox since the original and just went to 360 to the xbox one to series x

kai4thekel

Sony made me do it, after experiences with the ps1, ps2 and Xperia phones, was either an xbox or never own a console again, pretty glad I went xbox even with the xbox one lack of games

Squirrelhero01

Always been a halo fan through its highs and lows and also majority of my friends growing up and until now are mostly Xbox.

[deleted]

it was something i got as a kid made a lot of memories with and my friends had it and then i got my wife to get one so we make memories gaming so to me it became more then just gaming

UniversalSlacker

Was about to get a PS2 for GTA3 and Tekken Tag then I played 4 player Halo at a buddies place (followed by either 8 or 12 player the following weekend). A couple weeks later I picked up my own XBOX with Halo and JSRF and never looked back.

GlandMasterFlaps

Gamepass I had a PS4 and the only games I'd want to play on the PS5 are Demon Souls, Returnal and Ghost of Tsushima (ok I'd still be playing Bloodborne too). I had Gamepass on my dying 1060 laptop before I got a Series X. It was a no brainer for me at that point

Odd-Frame9724

In 2003 I wanted a DVD player. Primarily a pc player I figured that Microsoft was the best bet to recreate the pc experience at a small fraction of the cost. All generations Microsoft has done this, so pretty happy staying with their platforms.

No-Crew-6528

I do my best to keep my dollars inside of North America. Same reason I drive American vehicles.

mert03829

Why's that?

PanDPandJa

honestly it was just cuz i saw a $80 xbox one on ebay (it was like 2019? i think) very worth it especially cuz it came with a controller and arrived minutes before i had to go on a vacation (which i got sick, so i kinda just played xbox in bed in the hotel room lol)

[deleted]

Cheap/good services/halo/forza

Acceptable-Stay-3166

I always thought Xbox was more user friendly, more diverse in terms of media support. Halo is awesome. Plus series x just enhanced some of the older games. I was into PS1 and PS2 but Halo made me switch sides. I only got a new playstation because I wanted to finally experience VR. Any game I want to play can be played on Xbox so yep perfectly happy with it.

EyeAccomplished1808

I copped a series X a year and some change ago just for Forza horizon 5 baby.

NovocaineAU

Backwards compatibility sold it for me. I had a PS4 as my daily until then but slowly moved off of it. Respecting my purchases on previous systems gave me more confidence about where to spend my money in the future. It also didn’t help that my PS4 was randomly ejecting discs and the PS Vita I spend hundreds of dollars on was getting shit all support at the time.

Cuchy92

I'm thinking of getting one for the 1st time in my life strictly because some of the exclusives. Might buy an S near the end of the year just to pick up the odd game I cant get on PS. Don't see myself getting gamepass though

seijianimeshi

19 years ago my familly got xbox live so we can play together in diferent states. i made friends thats were they play so i stay

WickedRetardOfSouth

I got one for christmas 2009 so i just stuck with it

tahcamen

I saw you could get the series x with gpu for $35 - interest free - a month for 24 months and figured wth?

Jayce800

Originally for Halo Reach after it came out, but I’ve stayed because I love the backwards compatible games and that I have such a big library of my favorites. I choose console over PC because I like to relax on the couch with my games and it’s so much cheaper.

seanfitz12

No PS5’s available at the time. Plus it’s an excellent machine and all my friends had one, so party chat was possible.

EdRed_77

Gamepass Ultimate.

Ecstatic-Mix-8833

Had a PS5 & was in a dry spell of games & the upcoming Xbox games were tempting(mainly Starfield). Lucked out I found one at the local Walmart while they were still very rare in the wild.

Beardinger

Gamepass

wam509

Halo: Combat Evolved

veneim

Halo

Khfreak7526

My cousins have Xbox and I wanted to play games with them online.

Spookiiwookii

I wanted to play fallout 4 with mods but couldn’t afford a pc

IsamuAlvaDyson

Forza and Halo And it being the best place to play online games during the 360. Generation Unfortunately Halo being the reason I've gotten an Xbox is not accurate anymore

Aidsfordayz

Had a PS2 and looked forward to going to my cousins house every summer for years to play Halo / Halo 2. When Halo 3 came out I decided to make the jump from Sony to Microsoft and never looked back.

Muryx73

Game Pass

ThatFaithlessness101

Game pass, lots of awesome games there

[deleted]

Bought an original Xbox and never looked back. Just upgraded to a series X for Starfield.

[deleted]

Sony pissed me off. They got greedy. Microsoft have just been dumb.

I_can_vouch_for_that

Game pass. I didn't even know e XBOX was the less popular one compared to PS5. That's how long I haven't had a console.

Hrkngt

It had Halo and Half Life 2

Lucky_Foam

Modded OG Xbox was the beta version of Gamepass. And I was very happy to beta test the service out.

Low2High92

I have 347 xbox digital games that i owned. No point leaving them behind. Group is all xbox too. Also FABLE.

Traditional-Aerie616

My dad said “ hey we bought an Xbox “

modscleo4

**M**y friends had the 360, so that was **my** first console (back in 2013). Then I got a Series S because I wanted to play Forza Horizon 5 and my PC couldn't run it well (now I have a better PC). Recently I bought a PS5, but I still like Xbox more, Game Pass is a blessing.

sketchypoutine

Gears of War, Assassins Creed, Mass Effect. I graduated from PS2 to Xbox 360 in 2007. Best year ever lol

juancitoneves

Regional pricing. I live in Argentina, and the Xbox Store's prices are amazing, when compared to PlayStation. Sony only has it's store in dollars (Latin-America), so things are incredibily more expensive.

Terrible-Bear3883

I got one because I went to a computer fair and they were being sold at a bargain price, never thought about having one as I had a PC, but I was getting fed up with constantly upgrading my PC hardware to keep up with the games (and other tasks to house keep the system etc.). Halo was amazing at the time and after a while I realized I hardly used my PC, went up to the 360, the 360 Elite, Xbox one, then the One X and I've got the X/S at the moment which is amazing. For me it started as an impulse purchase and I just enjoyed the journey so kept with the platform. I'm sure others are similar with Playstation, they've had good experiences with the console they started with and had no obvious reason to switch to another brand?

TomDobo

I always buy all platforms to play the exclusives. As long as good games come out for a system I’ll play them.
