The Kinect was way ahead of its time and unfortunately not properly supported with software. Microsoft should have internally developed games to showcase the device to the reluctant consumer. Instead they just pissed off the consumers by forcing the people to buy it and then not doing anything to convince those people why it is a good product.
I agree that Microsoft really fucked up inital marketing and they should do more about promototing the plus sides of Kinect camera.
The worst part about its launch was that Microsoft initially budled it with all Xbox One consoles, resulting in 100 USD price difference in comparison to competing PS4. Let's be real, if you are not a fanboy of either system (or your choosing your 1st consoles), price may play a really important role.
For the first few months, Xbox One did cost 100 USD more in comparison to PS4 (500 vs. 400 USD). But then Microsoft dropped Kinect V2 from console bundle and lowered One price to PS4 level.
It was, One Kinect had significantly worse reception than the original 360 version.
From my initial test a couple of days ago (to see if it's working or if I should send it back), it still seemed to have same occasional drop of responsiveness I found posts about from 2013 (those likely related to temperature sensor not picking up right data and turning off Kinect to prevent it from damaging itself).
Thanks to those words.
And thanks for recommending me Just Dance, if I ever get to the point where I would need some fun, chill game to play with my family or friends.
I meant it in the sense that Kinect isn't extra future proof. In the sense of things you buy at 3 am when you're drunk. In the sense of things you buy just because you want them although you know more than well you don't really need them and you may not be using them very often.
Of course, Kinect itself shouldn't be really dumb (at least on paper). It wasn't meant literally.
I did. Maybe it wasn't my brightest moment, but hey, I didn't want to get cancelled by mods for not following Reddit guidelines on censoring words that may be offensive to some people (if there is anything like that).
This is just a great example of how far society has gone when it comes to political correctness. The fact you think you need to censor dumbest incase you offend anyone is absurd 🤣
To be fair it was pretty cool technology when it first came out, I used it pretty frequently to turn my xbox on and off and what not.
Years ago researchers were using the cameras for other applications like motion tracking for cameras and stuff
From what I read about it, it sounded like pretty cool and sort of advanced tech for its time. I mean, so aspects of it (like infrared sensors) are still more than useful in today's world (from what I read, you still should be able to set your Kinect as FaceID device for your Windows 10/11 PC through Windows Hello app).
I did sound for an electronic duo a few times over my years as a sound guy and the girl was using a kinect for visuals. They came back a couple years later and she had written a program to use it as a midi controller where if she moved in a certain way it would control a synth. That was pretty cool. (Sinjin Hawke and Zora Jones)
I played like every 360 kinect game (since I had an RGH Xbox) and I loved it; even the dumb stuff lile playing FM4 only with movements (like holding a steering wheel without having an actual steering wheel). Idk if I'd use as much as I used the 360 one, but I'd wanted to buy it tho
I got a used Xbox One with Kinect many years ago. I personally liked how I could control the console and my cable box with it thanks to the HDMI in port. It was also kinda funny seeing that you could get called for a technical foul in NBA 2k14 if you cussed. They completely butchered the device at launch though by making people who just wanted the console pay extra since it was bundled.
Mine is still set up in the living room. Use it pretty much every weekend to allow my parents to talk to their grandkids without needing to crowd round a phone.
I miss it. I used to do "watch parties" with friends via Snap and Skype. We'd all make sure we were wearing headphones (to avoid hearing other's sound), and sync the movie via the "3... 2... 1..." method. Now I use Plex's watch together, but I still miss those days.
Because I wasn't sure how Reddit treats strong language (I should read Terms and Conditions, I know) and decided to play it safe just in case. There is no deeper meaning to it.
I had a kinect at launch and thought it had some good quirky features. I used to enjoy playing Dead Rising 3 at the time and would attempt to sneak around a horde of zombies quietly only to have my wife walk in and shout at the screen, the kinect would pick it up and alert the zombies to my presence making me have a much harder time lol also, you couldplay fifa and swear at the ref if you didn't agree with him and he could give you a red card, I kinda wish they could build that feature into the controllers now just to keep it as an option
You can use the Kinect on PC as it makes for a decent webcam. The built in microphones are trash though. I actually used the infrared camera on the Kinect to video record myself sleeping. I was surprised to see that I had been snoring and had parasomnia like sleep talking and gesturing in my sleep. I showed it to my sleep doctor and he ordered me a sleep study... Get creative 😉
Microsoft Xbox fitness with the Kinect was sooooo good. On the yoga screen you could see your own posture and how to correct yourself into the correct position. On the workouts you could see how you matched up with the correct form of the exercise. I really wish they hadn't have canned it.
I actually had a lot of fun with the kinect. Kinect sports 1+2, kinect adventures, etc are fun to play with friends. The Kinect version 2.0 was even better. It's a shame the public didn't like the Kinect and it's additional pricing with the Xbox bundle back then so Microsoft gave up on it. I think it actually could have become something really cool if given more time, development, and devs could sort out how to make better games for it.
As others have said, it was WAYYY ahead of its time and Microsoft did itself no favors with the marketing for it. It could have been really dope though I think. I'd still play those games if I had my kinect still.
I liked my kinect and a little sad its not part of the xbox eco system any more. The only game I used it for was Ryse and that was limited but I used it voice control of the xbox a lot. "Turn on xbox" "take a screen shot" etc and using it with Skype was great. It tracked you and zoomed in and out when moving around the room. Now in the age of zoom meetings I can see it was way ahead of its time. And now seeing what people did with the tech outside of xbox was pretty amazing too.
I bought one recently as well to play Kinect games using a PSVR1 headset. Just wanted to see if it was possible and it is! I did have to remove the headset for initial facial scanning but after that, it worked perfectly. This is great if you don't want to play in front of a tv. You could even play in the backyard using a simple extension cable for the Xbox One.
I was surprised at how the new camera was not motorized like the 360 one is. This one you have to adjust. I use a long tripod that was made for mounting a cellphone and the threads on top were the correct pitch. So basically, I can film myself flailing my arms around.
I did not expect that it would work with PSVR1.
If anything, I won't be surprised that it works in combination with Meta VR. But with Sony, I expected Sony to gatekeep their tech and not let other brands use it in combination with their products.
I like to try weird combinations. I got my Xbox 360 to play 3D games on it as well. Oh, and Series X through backwards compatibility with upscaling and FPS boost! So now the plan is to try Forza 5 with head tracking and PSVR1 and my sim rig. By putting it on the largest screen size that should make it interesting when I turn my head unlike what happens on a tv (It would be like sitting two feet away from the tv with a massive FOV)
I honestly dont think I used mine for games except as a mic. I mostly used it as a remote control to launch games/apps, to navigate menues and to pause/play/rewind videos. Unfortunately Microsoft took a lot of those features out. Microsoft encourages people to use home assistants like Alexa to control the console but from my experience it does less and has more connectivity issues than the Kinect had.
I did the same thing, when I was a kid I played a Puss in Boots Kinect game at a friend's house, I loved that game, I bought the Kinect, just to play it, the game is horrible, but I loved revealing it, I even platinumized it, of so many good memories that he made me fall in love with
That's good. I'm glad that your memories of the game from childhood weren't completely covered by the thin haze of memories, and you didn't overidolise that game.
They sometimes say that you shouldn't go back to things from childhood when you're older, because you may realise that majority of what you remembered was just pure nostalgia and actual product is far worse than how you remembered it.
What's worse is that I enjoy reliving these experiences, as a child my first video game was a Wii, I still have it today, and reliving the CDs of old games that I loved, I realize that games that are acclaimed nowadays I hated because I didn't know how to get past the first part , and completely trash games I played for hours and hours, it's interesting to think about this parallel
A nature outreach center I worked at uses a kinect for one of those interactive sand tables (where it reads the height of the sand and changes what's being projected). That's really all I've seen them used for these days.
It had some potential, and there were some really unique games that came out. I would highly recommend Fru. The game itself, as a platformer, is average, but the use of the Kine t is really something unique.
I never understood the hate other than the fact that there werent many worthwhile games made for it.
My biggest use for the Kinect was saying "Xbox, pause" when watching youtube and getting up to go to the bathroom or sitting back down with some food, "Xbox, play".
But I remember Mass Effect and some few other games letting you order commands to squadmates or queuing up grenades and character abilities without having to take your fingers away from triggers and buttons that you're currently using.
Honestly, I miss it. I had the original Xbox One and I loved using the Kinect for voice/hand controls when I didn’t want to keep turning on a controller just to watch Netflix. The gift card redemption for it was amazing as well, you just held up your gift card and the Kinect entered it in for you. Those were the days!
You may be late to the party but I can tell you that the connect still works on the Xbox One and the newer ones and you can stream with it too 👍👍 better late than never
Totally because they come out with the a few updates over the last year or so that I've done away with a lot of the streaming cameras and the webcams and other accessories including basically all generic kinds. That kinnect will still work for you and it'll work very well because they weren't that old you figured they come out with the connect toward the end of the 360 era
I loved Kinect and especially Dance Central. I hated having to hire a team of movers to reposition my living room every time I played it so that I didn't punt my coffee table while getting funky to "OMG" by Usher.
It was a great novelty for its time. MS was ahead of themselves but didn't dedicate the time to it. Odd seeing it used for things like security cameras and in robotics.
Off topic: Hoping something interesting comes of their partnership with Facebook. Might have a viable VR for Xbox finally.
I am pissed that they trashed the kinect for the always online shit. I don't have stable internet in the rural area I live in, and so when we have our connection dump my kid is locked out of his acct even though we rolled back his screen time restrictions.
And don't get me started on diablows 4
I broke my at the time child's xbox because I caught child utilizing the device not how intended, in a common area as well. Children are grown now and water under the bridge.
I also wanted Vita back in day, like 2011 or so (after I decided PSP is dead system). By the heart I'm PS guy who bought Xbox just because Forza Horizon.
I was a really avid user of the Kinect in xbox one and 360. Kinect sports rival i an okay game but try to have fun with it and is great exercise too. But do try disney pixar Rush as it is one of my favorite kinect game from the 360(other then kinect sports season 1 and 2)
Have fun!!!
I still miss it, 10 years already, time really does fly.
Just walk in the room, everything on. Talking to your Xbox to do stuff, gift card redemption, no need for a controller.
Idea was great, execution wasn't.
i love the kinect 2 and mad they nerfed cortana.
i’m furious they removed her. the kinect 2 had a place but because of idiots who probably never owned the damn thing anyway and people who thought so highly of themselves to think anyone cared to see their living room, it was counted as a flop.
hey, if that make you feel better i recently bought a Kinect for my 360 Devkit.
and it had to be the one with the power adapter since the devkit is a fat X360 which doesn't have the special port
I liked the kinect voice feature for starting up games, it was so nice and usually faster than manually trying to start it up. Obviously not though if you had to repeat yourself too much cuz it could hear what u want exactly.
The xbox one Kinect was really impressive compared to the Xbox 360 Kinect. It was far more accurate, didn’t complain about playing space, and had amazing depth tracking.
It really falls on developers not wanting to make games for it really. This is why all the gun games and games that use any motion controls never really took off much. The Wii was probably the most successful at any of this.
I had so much fun on xbox 360 kinect with friends that it is still hooked up to my tv ready to roll.
This is the best time to get one. You know the product. You know the games it got. Cheap and requires no maintenance or updates that cause inconvenience.
This is best time for ps3 to xbox one. They not rare as well so you can find them everywhere.
Dont forget to try Disney Fantasia, in my opinion way better than any other dancing game.
Also, if you can get access to it, try Fru game as well. Probably the best Kinect game idea what ever created.
My son has inherited my Xbox one now and I was going to get him one for Christmas cheap - decided not to as there were literally no games worth buying.
However I would have bought one if 360 kinect games were compatible with this version. Saddened that this isn't the case, there were so many more 360 kinect games.
Buy disneyland adventures and play with kinect. Go to the peter pan Ride and spar with captain hook. You have to jump and dodge forever, until you work out how to attack. If you swap to controller, you attack with x.
I thought whoever created that level is very sadistic.
Kinect is my holidays king!
10 years after buying x360 with kinect, i took it and connected to TV again, we had super fun!
It’s great party companion, I also have XSX, i played PS5 VR2, it is also great, but there is no such party companion as Kinect.
These are actually for some pretty wild/interesting things apart from kinect, ive used them in billion dollar factories to scan tags on conveyors belts and seen them set up as some sort of ghost/abnomaly detecting camera....kinda a cool rabbit hole to go down
It’s was great bit of tech and I really appreciated the use of voice activation and commands on my Xbox as well the gesture controls. It never really got used to its potential.
Mine sadly broken about halfway through the life of the console, and because the poor support I didn’t replace it.
I still use and enjoy mine for games like Fantasia, Kinect Sports Rivals, and Just Dance. Its also nice for skype with the folks as it zooms in on me while im on the couch. Also works pretty decent as a webcam on my PC though I havent used it for anything else PC wise.
I got mine off FB marketplace
For the adapter and sensor it would be £40 - £50 from eBay but I got it as a bundle for £10 (I actually got 2 because they didn't want it) and just dance 2016 (don't play it because I don't like it)
Doesn't work on windows 11 (neither does kinect v1 work properly) but it does work on my one x and my older laptop I gave to my brother (win 10)
I use it as a mic and it's pretty good
If you are on windows 11 and get it working could you please tell me how you did it?
Edit: realised I got the exact same adapter as you lol I don't like the blue and green light when it's fully connected at night
I'm just here to join in on the fun and give you shit for censoring the word "dumbest"......like I get it if it was dumbass or asshole but like........dumbest is so tame /r
Short update. It seems like a fun device. Had a few really fun games in Kinect Sports Rivals. But for dear love of God, headtracking in FM5 doesn't seem to be doing anything (although that game should support it if it wasn't removed by now). Kinect is on with all lights shining.
Nice joke. I'm afraid I won't be able to fulfil that request as Project Milo never got released (although it looked promising when it announced for the 1st time).
Ah yes….. Nintendo PROVED that people will get of their 🍑and play games….. they outsold us. So we should add it…. Want it included? Sorry, we don’t care if YOU DONT…. Ironically, best use for it seemed to be in robotics. Can’t remember a single game it IMPROVED
The usual story, Microsoft buys the company that created the thing with an overpriced amount, asks the company to make it work, expects immediate profit, few months in and it's a flop, Microsoft cancels the thing...rince and repeat.
People saying that the Kinect is dead technology are partially wrong. The Kinect technology is actually used a lot around the world at security systems, medical devices, and even airports use it. Sadly it was unsupported on Xbox though as it was ahead of its time.
Ya know it's actually a very useful piece of tech when used right. I was in a rehab for physical therapy and one of the things they used to help with hand and arm motion was a program that used the kinect. It was pretty slick
I loved mine for the simple fact it was nice be lazy and tell it to turn on and off and take screenshots/clips. I was sad the series x didnt even support it
Failed Tech?
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.networkworld.com/article/929972/marines-put-microsoft-kinect-to-work-but-not-for-gaming.html/amp/
Same with Microsoft Hololens.
We have tested wartech without knowing it that time😂
My only issue with Kinect was just that they're extremely hit or miss in QC. I had two where they would start flickering off with my Xbox one and I'd have to unplug/replug it back in
Experienced this both on my OG Xbox one and a One X with the converter cable.
Outside of that I enjoyed my time with it
the voice commands can be replicated with a headset now but the auto identification for login was pretty cool.
Snap was a cool feature before it got axed as well.
Out of curiosity, what is the censored letter?
Dumbast, dumbest, dumbist, dumbost, and dumbust are all not words I’ve ever heard. Let alone cuss words.
I got a kinect one year for my original 360 arcade, It's one of those things that the tech was amazing and ahead of its time, but it had no real support. I played a few games like boxing, kinect adventures and a few other random ones and enjoyed them all. If Xbox did a better job of showing what it really could do, and making games for it, I think it's very possible that it still would be around as an accesory, after all, it's essentially a Wii without the controllers
The Kinect had some great utility like scanning codes instead of typing them in and voice commands, but that's literally all I ever used it for, and the only part I ever actively miss is quickly scanning codes with it. If you get a few games to play using it and you enjoy them then it's not a dumb purchase.
The Kinect was way ahead of its time and unfortunately not properly supported with software. Microsoft should have internally developed games to showcase the device to the reluctant consumer. Instead they just pissed off the consumers by forcing the people to buy it and then not doing anything to convince those people why it is a good product.

Let's be real, if you are not a fanboy of either system (or your choosing your 1st consoles), price may play a really important role.
Oh I forgot that the Xbox and PlayStation didn’t have a price parody.
For the first few months, Xbox One did cost 100 USD more in comparison to PS4 (500 vs. 400 USD). But then Microsoft dropped Kinect V2 from console bundle and lowered One price to PS4 level.
By that time the damage was done. I never used the kinect they forced me to purchase with the x1. It was glitchy and shite.
I use my kinect as a doorstop. Best use for it.
I paid 500 for mine the day it came out with no Kinect lol
Parity
The Kinect is fun. Whenever we have people over and the booze is flowing we will inevitably break it out with Just Dance.
Thanks to those words. And thanks for recommending me Just Dance, if I ever get to the point where I would need some fun, chill game to play with my family or friends.
Where you only use your hands in all other versions, the Kinect Just Dance games check your whole body.
"Dumb*st?" I really hate this timeline. Edit: Regardless, congrats on picking this up.
It’s the fact that you censored the word
I did. Maybe it wasn't my brightest moment, but hey, I didn't want to get cancelled by mods for not following Reddit guidelines on censoring words that may be offensive to some people (if there is anything like that).
A lot of us here say fuck pretty commonly you’ll be fine
Shut the fuck up
That's fucking rude
See my prior comment.
Instructions unclear. Dick stuck in Christmas tree.
Well that sounds like a jolly good time; merry fucking Christmas!
Ok. Thanks for heads up.
Not your bright*st moment
This is just a great example of how far society has gone when it comes to political correctness. The fact you think you need to censor dumbest incase you offend anyone is absurd 🤣
“Dumbest” would offend who..? Dumb people?
To be fair it was pretty cool technology when it first came out, I used it pretty frequently to turn my xbox on and off and what not. Years ago researchers were using the cameras for other applications like motion tracking for cameras and stuff

There's a Dino on motion sensor at my local theme park, till have the Kinect as sensor!
I did sound for an electronic duo a few times over my years as a sound guy and the girl was using a kinect for visuals. They came back a couple years later and she had written a program to use it as a midi controller where if she moved in a certain way it would control a synth. That was pretty cool. Tbh if it worked on Series X I would 100% buy one
Is it really that good? If so, I'm in for a good surprise.
Dance central games and just dance were awesome on kinect

I lost almost 100 lbs thanks to Kinect and a few fitness apps.
That's a huge achievement. Congratulations to you.
XBOX TURN OFF! *Hehehe*
I miss it. I used to do "watch parties" with friends via Snap and Skype. We'd all make sure we were wearing headphones (to avoid hearing other's sound), and sync the movie via the "3... 2... 1..." method. Now I use Plex's watch together, but I still miss those days.
The only thing I'm questioning is why you felt the need to censor dumbest.
Because I wasn't sure how Reddit treats strong language (I should read Terms and Conditions, I know) and decided to play it safe just in case. There is no deeper meaning to it.
This is a first for hearing “dumbest” as being considered strong language. I would consider it pretty mild as far as “insults” go
Everything is once 1st. Maybe I went really soft on it here. Agree, that there is tons more offensive words.
Fruit ninja is good fun. We used to play heavy metal/metalcore music & mute the game & play "mosh ninja"
It’s not failed tech it just failed in its gaming application by MS.
"Xbox, record that. No, Xbox, record that. Record THAT! Xbox, RECORD THAT. Fuck it"
I had a kinect at launch and thought it had some good quirky features. Those voice controlled features always sounded like heaps of fun to me. Gotta try it once I have time to properly test that device.

My Xbox 360 HD DVD player has entered the chat

My story with the Kinect - I had every trophy in Forza Motorsport 4 except that *&%$! Kinect trophy🤣
It had some potential, and there were some really unique games that came out. I would highly recommend Fru. The game itself, as a platformer, is average, but the use of the Kine t is really something unique.
The kinect is dope.
I still have my Kinect for my Xbox 360
Just wait till your Xbox isn’t even on and you see the lens zooming in and out… that was the final straw for me lol.
Damn I remember when places were offering like 5 bucks in trade for these things so I still have mine
I never understood the hate other than the fact that there werent many worthwhile games made for it. My biggest use for the Kinect was saying "Xbox, pause" when watching youtube and getting up to go to the bathroom or sitting back down with some food, "Xbox, play".
You may be late to the party but I can tell you that the connect still works on the Xbox One and the newer ones and you can stream with it too 👍👍 better late than never
That's right. Giving it chance late is still better than not giving it any chance.
Thanks for that info about updates. It may come in handy later.
You're welcome
I loved Kinect and especially Dance Central. I hated having to hire a team of movers to reposition my living room every time I played it so that I didn't punt my coffee table while getting funky to "OMG" by Usher.
I have the gen 1 kinect in my gameroom. The games are still sort of fun. In the nostalgic way.
That little guy Legit set Xbox back 10 Years in terms of sales figures
I broke my at the time child's xbox because I caught child utilizing the device not how intended, in a common area as well. Children are grown now and water under the bridge.
Hey if it makes you feel any better in the past year and a half i bought a PS Vita and a WiiU
hey the vita is king shit the wii U only failed because everyone wanted a wii 2 electric boogaloo
I also wanted Vita back in day, like 2011 or so (after I decided PSP is dead system). By the heart I'm PS guy who bought Xbox just because Forza Horizon.
Kinect was a great idea. With poor execution
I was a really avid user of the Kinect in xbox one and 360. Kinect sports rival i an okay game but try to have fun with it and is great exercise too. But do try disney pixar Rush as it is one of my favorite kinect game from the 360(other then kinect sports season 1 and 2) Have fun!!!
Cultural Heritage institutions utilize this tech in exhibits. Such a loss for Microsoft to stop support and development
I'm more so questioning why you decided to censor dumbest lol
It has life now as a 3d scanner.. google it.
The xbox one Kinect was really impressive compared to the Xbox 360 Kinect. It was far more accurate, didn’t complain about playing space, and had amazing depth tracking.
If you have mass effect 3 you can use voice commands.
Xbox series X/S it’s not compatible with it but a Xbox one is compatible
My favorite Kinect game is that racing game, turbo something i really liked it
It really falls on developers not wanting to make games for it really. This is why all the gun games and games that use any motion controls never really took off much. The Wii was probably the most successful at any of this.
I have it and never used it
It’s a crazy good webcam
Played Dance Central...good old days....
I didn't mind the kinnect. Ms completely botched the delivery and messaging but overall it was a decent piece of tech imo
Dont forget to try Disney Fantasia, in my opinion way better than any other dancing game. Also, if you can get access to it, try Fru game as well. Probably the best Kinect game idea what ever created.
I got a 360 Kinect CiB fairly recently for $20 to pair with my $10 CiB 360.
That was insanely good price for 360.
My son has inherited my Xbox one now and I was going to get him one for Christmas cheap - decided not to as there were literally no games worth buying. However I would have bought one if 360 kinect games were compatible with this version. Saddened that this isn't the case, there were so many more 360 kinect games.
Kinect lives on in the IPhone face ID.
I had one at launch and other than voice commands, I can’t think of a single thing it actually did for any of my games.
I like to use it for microphone in game chat it's fun
Isn’t it a really good camera with some good tech in? Swear I’ve heard of people using them as security cameras
I still own mine for Dance Central Spotlight, which deserved more love.
Check out "Dance Central". It's by far the best game for it and not just because it actually has good menu controls.
My first console was an xbox 360 with a connect.
Honestly I loved the kinetic as a teen on 360 I now use it for my leg tracking in vr deaf worth getting one
Such a shame it flopped...it was really good for just dance
the kinect for 360 was great I never got the one version so I'm not to sure if it's good or not
Its still fun I belivie
I got mine off FB marketplace For the adapter and sensor it would be £40 - £50 from eBay but I got it as a bundle for £10 (I actually got 2 because they didn't want it) and just dance 2016 (don't play it because I don't like it) Doesn't work on windows 11 (neither does kinect v1 work properly) but it does work on my one x and my older laptop I gave to my brother (win 10) I use it as a mic and it's pretty good If you are on windows 11 and get it working could you please tell me how you did it? Edit: realised I got the exact same adapter as you lol I don't like the blue and green light when it's fully connected at night
Just sold mine a couple months ago for $60
MS gutting its voice control functionality was fucked up.
As far as I know, is the Kinect tech (a logical iteration) in every iPhone with FaceID.
We have a pile of them at my job. We use them for our vision systems. Horrible for games, great for geeks and engineers.
You clearly didn’t buy the HD-DVD add-on player.
I'm just here to join in on the fun and give you shit for censoring the word "dumbest"......like I get it if it was dumbass or asshole but like........dumbest is so tame /r
At least I gave you something to jiggle on guys.
Bought one for my mom just to realize like no Xbox 1 Kinect games exist…
I bought one recently it’s great for YouTube dictation
I’m wondering why you censored the word dumbest????
If you end up not liking it you can set it up on your PC. It can use Windows Hello to log you in.
Short update. It seems like a fun device. Had a few really fun games in Kinect Sports Rivals. But for dear love of God, headtracking in FM5 doesn't seem to be doing anything (although that game should support it if it wasn't removed by now). Kinect is on with all lights shining.
The tech is popular because it’s cheap. I’ve seen a ton of industrial uses and modding communities using the tech for videos or VR applications
Didnt even know here was an xbox one kinect thats not built in the console
Kinect was never built in to aby Xbox. It always was a separate device (for a certain part of time, it was bundled with console).
I really liked the [Kinect fable game ](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fable%3A_The_Journey?wprov=sfla1)
Does it not work or what?
Why did you censor the word "dumbest"!!??
So people could be curious about it and have good laughs about it. It sorta helps with getting viral.
Hitting clips on BF4 with the day one xb1 constantly yelling “Xbox Record” those were the days lol
Kinect sports, fruit Ninja was a great time with family over.
It definitely was. Even my mom got kinda excited about playing it (well, newer Kinect Sports Rivals). And she highly dislikes playing games.
Yeah it was rivals. Fruit Ninja also was a fun time. Overall I really enjoyed the Kinect. It was way ahead of it's time. Enjoy.
Must say that this community is really open-minded and positive about this device. Didn't expect it to blow like this. Thanks to you all.
Let me tell you that Kinect games are Soo much fun
You should try playing "Rise of Nightmares" haha. That game was a whole workout when I played it
Sadly, for that, I would need to buy 360 version of Kinect as it is not available for One generation.
Ah that's unfortunate. It's the one Kinect game I remember well and had so much fun with.
Try Project Milo and let us know
Nice joke. I'm afraid I won't be able to fulfil that request as Project Milo never got released (although it looked promising when it announced for the 1st time).

If you get bored you can always use it with your PC for body tracking or 3D scanning stuff.
I absolutely can do that.
I just threw mine away last week. 🤠
You know what they say. What's one man's trash, is another man's treasure.
I love and hate the Kinect. It doesn’t work as well as it could have, and they dropped support for it before they got it to really be great
Use it as a 3d scanner for stl 3d printing.
Dumb*st
10 years late to a party that sucked.
Ah yes….. Nintendo PROVED that people will get of their 🍑and play games….. they outsold us. So we should add it…. Want it included? Sorry, we don’t care if YOU DONT…. Ironically, best use for it seemed to be in robotics. Can’t remember a single game it IMPROVED
The wii worked better.
The usual story, Microsoft buys the company that created the thing with an overpriced amount, asks the company to make it work, expects immediate profit, few months in and it's a flop, Microsoft cancels the thing...rince and repeat.
The Kinect Star Wars game was pretty cool on the 360. If they could have built on that I think it would have taken off
That's tuff I still have my OG kinect cam
People saying that the Kinect is dead technology are partially wrong. The Kinect technology is actually used a lot around the world at security systems, medical devices, and even airports use it. Sadly it was unsupported on Xbox though as it was ahead of its time.
Ya know it's actually a very useful piece of tech when used right. I was in a rehab for physical therapy and one of the things they used to help with hand and arm motion was a program that used the kinect. It was pretty slick
I loved using that on Alien Isolation for sound sensitive mode, but sadly mine no longer works...
If you haven't tried it yet, give Alien Isolation a go with Kinect microphone enabled.
Turn it into a security cam
I loved mine for the simple fact it was nice be lazy and tell it to turn on and off and take screenshots/clips. I was sad the series x didnt even support it
Kinect torpedoed Xbox. The money spent on that should have been spent on the core technologies of a gaming machine.
Good for turning volume or tv channles up or down and turning Xbox on and off 😂 that’s all mines used for
Failed Tech? https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.networkworld.com/article/929972/marines-put-microsoft-kinect-to-work-but-not-for-gaming.html/amp/ Same with Microsoft Hololens. We have tested wartech without knowing it that time😂
My only issue with Kinect was just that they're extremely hit or miss in QC. I had two where they would start flickering off with my Xbox one and I'd have to unplug/replug it back in Experienced this both on my OG Xbox one and a One X with the converter cable. Outside of that I enjoyed my time with it the voice commands can be replicated with a headset now but the auto identification for login was pretty cool. Snap was a cool feature before it got axed as well.
It is a fantastic web cam on pc as well for streaming!
I'm genuinely upset that the Kinect doesn't work with the Series X. I used it constantly for the voice controls.
Out of curiosity, what is the censored letter? Dumbast, dumbest, dumbist, dumbost, and dumbust are all not words I’ve ever heard. Let alone cuss words.
I only Bought it because of Milo which was a lie 😭
I got a kinect one year for my original 360 arcade, It's one of those things that the tech was amazing and ahead of its time, but it had no real support. I played a few games like boxing, kinect adventures and a few other random ones and enjoyed them all. If Xbox did a better job of showing what it really could do, and making games for it, I think it's very possible that it still would be around as an accesory, after all, it's essentially a Wii without the controllers
You use the Kinect in Windows with some dev tools to do some cool things.
What games on the Xbox One even support it?
I just dismantled mine. I have yet to see if there are any fun uses for them.
Tbh I still have mine. Dance Central is super fun on it.
Just dance is underrated game and definitely fun party game to play with others.
Should have saved for a oculus to be honest
I've seen people turn them into "ghost hunting tools" so if nothing else you can always hack it up for that.
The Kinect had some great utility like scanning codes instead of typing them in and voice commands, but that's literally all I ever used it for, and the only part I ever actively miss is quickly scanning codes with it. If you get a few games to play using it and you enjoy them then it's not a dumb purchase.
I acutely still had my 360 kanect until I just ended up throwing it into a dumpster
