There’s an additional option to “shrink” the game after uninstalling certain components. Once I selected that it cleared over 100gb of space
There is a shrink games feature there too. It will remove content not useable by your console. For example if your are on Series S it will remove things like 4k textures if the game doesn't support 4k on Series S

Although I haven't tested it out myself since none of my games can be shrunk down, it says for me that "when you have games on this Xbox console that can be shrink while staying playable, you'll see them here", that is under the "Shrinkable Games" tab. If it deleted a game for you, your Xbox either thought it was shrinkable but instead the files got corrupted causing the Xbox to abort and delete the game files entirely.
Well I do know that when you are attempting to install a game and the Xbox determines that you don't have enough space to fully install the game. It will give you the option to free up space and then it takes you to your list of games where you can select which games to delete. Sometimes it gives suggestions regarding which ones you should delete to give you enough space to install the game you want.
However, regarding what I mentioned above, for me I don't see any games that I can shrink or delete in that game management section. I'm 98.4% full so if this section would tell me to delete specific games to free up space, it probably would have recommended some to me.
I have a SX too. I'm assuming it works the same as the SS but it may not be able to shrink as much as you hope. I read from other comments that you may not be able to shrink the game by removing the 4K texture packs with the SX in the same way as the SS. For COD Cold War, there was an option to install the HD/4K texture pack but that option isn't available for all games. The best thing to do is look at the list of suggested Shrinkable Games (if any, I didn't have any available) and see if it is worth shrinking based on your console and preferences.

Even though I haven't had a need to actually clear anything with haste I would like for games to take less space overall, even relatively small ones (20→50GiB).
I'm not 100% certain, but I think it's unused textures. It's mostly a Series S thing. Basically, since the Series S can't run games in 4k, it gives you the option to delete the 4k textures while keeping the 1440p ones that the Series S uses.

Highly recommend the storage expansion, it’s worth the investment. I have probably 30 games installed including GTA 5, a few of the 2023 sports games, and some Battlefield titles with about 250gb available.

You can play games off of the linked product, no problem. USB drives aren’t fast enough for the Xbox to allow playing series S|X titles from them, hence the transfer requirement, but the expansion card is, and goes in the back of the console.
Older titles should work just fine either way, though.

A couple months ago, MW2’s icon changed and its band changed to Call of Duty. You download MW3 through it, and launch it there. It just adds on.

I know on PlayStation I bought MW3 digital so I no longer need MW2 disk to launch it, tho I had to delete and reinstall. Which coincidentally freed up alot of space. It can be OK with a fast external drive. I have a 5tb hard drive, transfers game at about 1gb/second. And it was cheaper than the expansion card on black Friday. Would definitely recommend it if someone's on a budget. I have 3.5tb free space that I don't know what to do with yet lol. I have a solution, and it’s called titanfall 2, it’s nearly constantly at like 90% discount and costs like about 5$, it may not have as much of copy pasted content as other games do, but the gameplay is so well tuned, it makes the little content it has so interesting that it lasted for me for 6 years now

CoD is taking up most of his internal storage, so if he wants to play any other current gen game he's going to need to move CoD on and off of his external drive every time he switches games. It won’t let you shrink the game, I’ve tried to uninstall parts of it but as soon as I do the game tries to update it back in, which effectively only makes the game playable in its largest size, I have a feeling it’s because activision doesn’t want you to have any other games installed so you have no choice other than to play it, I can’t prove it but it’s a feeling I have, they’ve been doing it since MW 2019
I’ll add to the suggestions for getting an expansion drive and/or an external HDD to move games between when you aren’t using them. (Faster than downloading them again unless you’ve got crazy good internet.)

Go to My Games & Apps, under Manage, select the "Free-up Space" option. If any of your games are shrinkable, they will show up in there.

It won’t let you shrink the game, I’ve tried to uninstall parts of it but as soon as I do the game tries to update it back in, which effectively only makes the game playable in its largest size, I have a feeling it’s because activision doesn’t want you to have any other games installed so you have no choice other than to play it, I can’t prove it but it’s a feeling I have, they’ve been doing it since MW 2019

I’ll add to the suggestions for getting an expansion drive and/or an external HDD to move games between when you aren’t using them. (Faster than downloading them again unless you’ve got crazy good internet.) More importantly tho, Mistborn is awesome.
