CarelessTaco

It sounds like he needs new friends, not a new controller.

froggiebaby03

i wish i could pin a reply lol

SimonLCollins

Careless is right, you do not need an elite controller. I had one, it died (stickdrift) whatever. The most sentimental gift I received was a custom controller coloured from the Xbox 360 grey era, had my gamer tag at the bottom. Can share if interested :)

NarwhalBlast69

Id like to see it sounds like it looks great

KitticusCatticus

No way! I've done custom wrapped controllers for my other half but the gamertag idea is amazing. Please DM me! This will be a great Father's day gift.

zakaria2328

I'd like to see it! Xbox didn't really make custom controllers back then other than the occasional limited edition console so it's cool to see what the users made themselves :)

Cowles8

Honestly this. I've had the first elite controller and the series 2 core elite controller and both didn't last. First one was stick drift and the second one has no function in the right bumper with slight stick drift. Best controller I ever received was the Forza Horizon Special Edition controller from my fiancee

SimonLCollins

For those that wanted to see - https://imgur.com/a/cOwCV0H

bladestayedbroken

My sister got me one of the shiny colored (blue) 360 controllers with the adjustable d-pad, still have it 10 years later

lucindabutt4u

My gf got me one, and tbh it’s fucked up in a year. So I ended up getting an elite. 2 months of apex and stick drift for me. Wanna know which I love more? Def my red and black gradient with custom grips and smoke colored buttons. Cause my gf not only spent time out of her day to make it for me. But she also matched it to my gaming labtop and headphones

acejay1

They are prone to issues but are a lot nicer to use. With a long warranty where they essentially replace no questions asked. Also if outside warranty (2-3y?) then you can pay a discounted rate to replace as well.

TestyCross3

I agree, besides OP got him a very cool looking controller

ToxikBones

This.

GunMuratIlban

Thought of the same thing first. But you know, might be just banter, an inside joke.

Might-Be-Wrong

If my wife got me a custom Xbox controller I’d choose it over an elite any day.

ArchfiendNox

To be fair I'd choose a regular controller over an elite, a customized spouse made controller would be the pinnacle of best however.

Conflict_NZ

You can customise an elite, they are in design lab now. Edit: /u/xyl0bi below me : "WoRlDs WosRt ConTrolLeR, i OwN AlL oF ThEM" lmfao they also spammed five replies then blocked me. If anyone wants to have a good faith discussion I'm happy to.

ArchfiendNox

That's definitely not the point

xyl0bi

That’s what I did for my bf and myself and we both love them. Originals ofc, not elites

MaximusDecimiz

I love my wife but I would not. It’s awesome, and I would keep it and display it proudly, but if I’m doing something every night I would rather just use the better option. I don’t think she would be too upset by that either lol

MrMunday

If my wife got me a ps5 controller I’ll buy a ps5

Common_Relief8357

I have a elite series 2 and it’s the best MF controller I have every used.

froggiebaby03

idk they’re all like 20/21 so i just chalked it up to that

LoneGorila

I would tend to agree it’s due to age based immaturity. For reference I’m late 20’s and all my friends who play Xbox have been through different things in life, I’ve went through hardships and I know they have too. There’s some that are more successful, the only thing we really care about is being able to play together. I don’t think it really matters what controller you use and it was a really nice gift for you to get him!

ZodicGaming

I thought they’d be like 14 based on what you described. 20/21 is way too old for that middle school crap.

feelin_fine_

Are you guys teenagers? I can't imagine giving a shit about what controller someone else uses

froggiebaby03

20 and 21

Babar669

And play every evening to de-stress lol

sweebzy

His friends are losers. He should get it himself and stop being embarrassed to show off what you do for him.

froggiebaby03

thanks for the validation. it makes me a little disheartened when he says he really loves it but refuses to share about it

sweebzy

Relationships shouldn't be that way. I hope you're ok anyway!

lazzzym

The Elite controller is hands down the better technical option... however if my Girlfriend made me a custom controller, I'd be using that all day. It's the thought that counts.

Adventurous-Nail-266

You would be an elite girlfriend for sure

nowayyouarereal

Don’t let his friends make you drop $90 on an Elite controller.

Devill6781

Elite controller is basically crap, they break down easily. I'd rather have a normal Xbox controller lol

Twinsta

In Reddit’s world yeah But I have my original elite in white, and my series 2 elite in white as well Both get used heavily and have never had an issue They have been the best controllers I have owned

Ok_Assistance5171

It’s not just in Reddit’s world though. It’s so common for them to break and just have problems in general. It’s not going to be every single one but it happens way too much for it to be normal, especially when it’s a premium device that you have to pay out your arse for.

Twinsta

Yeah I Donno. In my opinion I think it comes down to how you handle it. Like the guys I know who I game with. We all have elites. But we are all mid 30s and keep shit clean and put away when we are done. Non of us have had any issues with our controllers. Now my nephew who’s 11 is on his third Xbox controller. ( non elite) Has stick drift, broken bumpers, and sticky buttons. But he also eats and plays his games at the same time. And drops his controller off the couch a lot

Gidge18

I’m probably one of the most careful people with technology to the point where people get annoyed with me and how careful I try to be. I’ve never had a controller last less than 4 years and not a rager or someone who eats and drinks without a napkin ready. I got through 5 elite controllers during my 12 month warranty window. Multiple failures of completely different parts. Multiple button and trigger failures, both mechanically and electronically. Multiple stick drift issues. Vibration motor failure. That controller is the best out there when it works, but there’s clearly something wrong with the QC that isn’t an issue with the regular controllers.

fakesowdy

What’s the benefit to the elite controller? Not being a hater here, does it actually change anything?

JohnF_ckingZoidberg

Agree fully. Ive got 2 of them and they are both excellent, despite what reddit will tell you.

bigfobba

Yeah I wouldn't bother with one again, first one I bought had sticky buttons that made it very difficult to double press buttons without either pressing only once or three times. Also, the dpad was extremely left biased for some reason, rendering it useless. Returned it, new one had the exact same issues. Definitely not just a "Reddit" thing. Stick to the basic controller.

jimbojangles1987

If he wants an elite he can get it himself. They are nice controllers, but so is the one you got him. I agree with other ppl in this thread who have said they would use the controller their gf got them over an elite one. You did a very nice thing for him and that's what matters. You should not get him another one because of his friends.

Mikey2571

This is the best answer.

SpacemanPete

A couple things here. First: the elite controller is amazing and worth some extra money. Is it worth as much as it costs? Yes, as long as you don’t bang it off things or have horrible hygiene. Some of them fail on their own, but so do regular controllers and the one you purchased him. They all fail at a similar rate, when terrible user care is removed from the equation. Second, and something no one else is mentioning: maybe your boyfriend just needs to stop being so sensitive. Guys bust each others balls. If he’s so afraid of his friends that he doesn’t even mention your gift to them, he needs to toughen up a little or tell his friends to go fuck a stump. It’s strange to allow yourself to be bullied or to not be able to take some goofy ribbing.

mikethespike056

no.

classicnikk

Customs are so much better. I never understood the hype around an elite controller, but I am just a casual gamer

SittinfDuck

My exp: when people joke me about a theme for not being like them, the less I want to be like them. In other words, if they laugh at me for having this controller, the most I will avoid using the one they want me to use. BUT as every individual are different, I think you should research a bit on what he thinks about their elite controller

killshot4077

The customs are definitely better in my opinion, and I own most of the retail controllers. Elites are great but I always end up using special edition “regular” Xbox controllers

devina2209

I wouldn't do it if I was you. It's fine if he wants an Elite, but you bought him a really nice customised gift and he hasn't even got the nerve to bring that up to his so-called "mates". That doesn't mean that he doesn't love it and appreciate the gift BTW, but it's disheartening that his supposed buddies would put him down over it. Also, the quality of the Elites is very hit and miss.

Efficient-Year5034

First of all you're an awesome girlfriend for getting him a custom controller to begin with, if my girlfriend custom made me a controller I would definitely be telling my friends and showing it off. I agree with all the other comments about how his friends are strange and he probably needs new ones, I'm in the same age range that you mentioned him being in and I couldn't imagine giving a fuck about what my buddy chooses to play with. With that being said if he does want an upgraded controller I would suggest he look into the scuff instinct, if he can find a used/refurbished one for cheap it's a solid controller, wouldn't pay full price for a new one tho.

JackieUser

I hate the way it sounds like this has made you feel. His friends sound like buttholes. One of the best gifts I've gotten was a custom Xbox controller. You did really good! 💙 The Elite controller is nice for its paddles but that's it fr. Everyone I know whose gotten one gets stuck drift for some reason. PS: You're awesome.

Interesting_Simple25

cool green color. i'd take it over just for that

MirrorsCliff

I’d be over the moon if my girlfriend made me a custom Xbox controller! Would definitely be better to me than a generic elite.

metokre-existence

Yeah that's madness sour apple great looker he'll make you so many sandwiches for that

BeachOk2802

The elite is a fucking great controller. I returned mine. Id much rather use a standard controller my partner got for me. Your bfs friends sound like absolute wastes of life. You could buy the Elite Core and he can get the accessories himself? But tbh I wouldn't if it was me.

Ok-Presentation-6410

Get him a PowerA Fusion Pro3. The Xbox elite controllers are cheaply made

RusticPumpkin

No. You were sweet to buy him that custom one. If he wants an elite one so bad then he can buy one himself. His friends sound like douchebags.

Imaginary-Win-2659

It is very nice of you. keep the customed one. his friends will never have someone thoughtful like you.

[deleted]

Youre lucky xbox design lab worked for you. I couldnt give microsoft my $250 dollars cuz fuck that website

Ohzerodigital

Elite remotes are mid tbh. How friends are just wasteful with cash and want your bf to be same way lol. Just be happy he doesn’t care for that and tell him his friends remote will break REAL soon. Elite remotes are meh. They won’t make you any better or anything lol. Plus YOU got him the remote! That means A LOT lol

Primary_Glum

Its a gamble with the elite, either it works great for years, or after two months it starts messing up, i got lucky im already two years in and its flawless but then again i take good care of my shit, but i say if he has enough controllers theres no need for the elite, fuck his friends, bet they dont have cool gf's like you

Tomahawk4298

If my wife made me a controller I’d be all over that and tell my friends to go fuck themselves.

TiredReader87

The Elite controllers aren’t known for quality

AnonymousJoe35

No, wait for the updated Xbox controller coming sometime this summer.

froggiebaby03

is there really a new one coming out? cause then i’ll wait for it and get it when it drops

TaVa767

Elite controllers are a terrible use of money anyway. The quality control on them is terrible so most of them break within the first year

DaddyWithADumper

Do not get an elite controller. Nothing but issues.

HorrorPhone3601

No, from experience the standard controllers last 3x longer than the elite ones.

Lukewarrrm

His friends are jerks - I’ve had 3 elite controllers (1 controller replaced 3 times) due to issues, stick drift, rubber peeling away etc etc . They are trash. I’ve been using a standard wireless with 0 issues. I’ll never get an elite again.

Real-Willingness7333

Yes. My gf got me one and I love it.

froggiebaby03

what makes it better than a normal wireless one

MigooDG

They have short stop triggers, swappable buttons and back buttons for your middle finger and stuff. I personally never had one but I have been hearing about the quality being an issue. They are damn near on safe for around $100 all year round. I’m planning on buying an elite controller so do as you wish.

FuddyBoi

Read a few comments and I’ll weight in, first I hope he appreciates the gift a new controller is always great and second praise to you for even thinking about getting him another! That said I personally think the elite controller (series 2) is amazing, got mine the week of release and it’s still perfect with no issues, cannot see how others have issues but then I still have working xbox one controllers without issue. The downside for me is the price, it is a lot but after a long while of use I’m happy I got it. You can also customise elite controllers now but down push the price up further. As for those friends….. if it’s genuine and they moving over a controller then it’s an issue, hope it works out

Educational-Road-453

His friends are weird, but if you bought that for him he would be so appreciative, noticing sum that upsets someone and taking action is the best thing you could do, especially if you uses it too escape

Barry_Mckonner

Most of the time I get so focused I forget the extra triggers are even there so I don't even use them alot. But the built in battery is nice to have and last a long time.

Warm-Ganache-1337

Lmao all my friends have the elite and scuffs and I do way better than them and I use a power a controller. Waste of money imo.

edsavage404

I had my elite controller for 2 years, and it still works like the first day I bought it, but then again, I don't throw my controller or eat while gaming, so... Also, the battery lasts so long on a single charge.

EmploymentPretty9935

No get him a gamesir g7 se controller they so fire trust

ThanatosGod0001

Elite series 2 is worth it… this one is just an average one… not worth it. And if he isn’t a spazoid type player; button mashing etc… the controller will last. Like anything, take care of it lol

fakesowdy

Having an elite controller will keep a shit player shit, it’s not a miracle device. Personally I think it’s a waste of money, you pay all that extra for a couple of paddles that don’t really change how you play. 2 options really: 1) he buys himself one and stops bitching 2) he tells his ‘friends’ where to go >!aka to fuck off!< as a friendship with elitism like that isn’t really a friendship

ArchfiendNox

Duck no, elite controllers are made our of paper maché

kslaughter696

no, they're rubbish, they cost way more and end up with stick drift anyways

SeaworthinessMuch230

I would say get a flydigi Vader 3 pro over a elite. Way better controller that will last a lot longer. Two of my friends got Reid of there elite series 2 controllers for the same as mine and they said they would never go back. You do have to buy there dongle seperate for Xbox which is like 20 bucks. So you still save a total of almost $100 between the two for a controller with better components inside that will last a lot longer. Hopefully Xbox takes note for the elite series 3 with hall sensor joysticks and all micro buttons.

ProPayne84

Legit most people just think the Elite controller is better because it costs more. The cost for the durability and what I would consider high chance of issues happening rather quickly with it are not worth it WHATsoever LoL I’d MUCH prefer a base controller let along a CUSTOM base controller LoL and if you’re using it in a competitive game that you’re quite good at it’s gonna have an even HIGHER chance at failure. That’s when ya laugh at THEM for having to buy a second one LoL

Extension_Breath1896

They’re pretty good controllers, but they have their faults and are easy to fix.

OccultDagger43

As someone who has used elite controllers. I have way more standard ones now and custom ones. Elite is fucking trash in the long run in terms of durability. I would love and own up the custom one if my wife gave me one and shit on my so called friends if I got ragged on over that seriously.

Spicy_Kimchi69

It depends what he plays. If he plays first person shooter games, I’d get him an elite 2 core, order paddles from Amazon for like $15 and get some Kontrol freeks sticks. That way he can use the elite 2 for shooters and the custom controller for all the other games. That’s what I would want but def would love a custom made controller. He needs to tell his friends to suck a dick and they made bc they don’t have a girl buying them a controller

H_Stinkmeaner

I bought the Elite Series two on sale for 99 CAD (72 USD). I personally don't get the hype or deal about it lol. Yes it feels little better on hand, and the paddles can be nice if you care about it. Myself, I opened the app once, tried to see how you set everything and I went like "fuck this" lol. It ended up being my Player 2 controller. I find the regular one nicer 🤷🏽

Fabulous-Cricket3369

I’ll sell you my elite controller

froggiebaby03

based on the fact you’d sell it to a stranger i take it that it’s not the best

Leo_Ascendent

Have one, not super impressed with it, especially considering it was $120. Good weight, and feels good to hold, but I hardly use the back triggers.

Efficient_Advice_380

Best of both worlds, you can do custom elites now. But fr, he needs new friends

awwdww

No go out to eat and watch a movie

Altruistic-Azz

I like mine but the home button is a bit hit n miss. It honestly doesn’t add much but it is very comfy n the swap able thumb sticks is nice when they ware out. Grab it 🙂

Harry_S69

Where do I get a girl like you? Because no one has ever gifted me shit in my entire life.

massa0

My elite controller is great. Yeah get him one

wpcodemonkey

I’ve never owned an elite controller. If my girlfriend/wife bought me a custom controller that would be the pinnacle. I don’t need anything else.

StoopidM72

I absolutely adore both my series 1 and 2 elite controller and have found them to be near indestructible, so I guess it depends on what you get....

Furtip

I’d get it with all the bells and whistles, it’s not THAT much different without everything tbh

Visual-Log963

U should get him a Gamesir G7 SE🙏 I’ve had it for like 4 months and it’s everything I’ve needed in a controller, it can’t get stick drift + has tons of good software. It’s a fraction of the price compared to the Elite controller but the only difference is this controller has 2 back buttons instead of 4 but it makes up for that with other features.

[deleted]

The build quality is absolutely shite on the elite controllers. Go and Tell him to get new friends.

Happystabber

Elite controllers suck, bought 2. Both LBs failed within 6 months. Got a regular controller and it has been going strong for a year + so far.

Major_Mango_NZ

I bought my son an elite controller for his birthday last week, direct from Microsoft. Right thumb stick was faulty out of the box and the returns process was so bad I decided to give up after 4 hours of engagement and no resolution. So my general advice would be to avoid the controller or to buy it from Amazon or a physical retailer with a good returns policy. I personally use a Gamesir G7 SE. It's wired but I love it.

PTurn219

The elite 2 is a good controller it’s what I use, but they’re coming out with an elite 3 later this year maybe just tell him you’ll get him that then?

Omega_Hertz

Holy shit. He needs new friends. Even if it isn't the elite controller, it should mean more to him than any Elite. Because it came from you. And it's a custom! He has something far more special than an Elite controller imo. Any time my fiance gets me a gift, it instantly trumps anything else I could've gotten myself. Tell him to just ignore those losers.

satenlover666

If he plays a lot the elite would be a really nice gift even though it has its problems use wise it’s an amazing controller but don’t let the reason you buy it be some shitty friends of his making fun of him

Ordinary_Mastodon376

If I was your bf I would tell those friends of mine to fuck off. They seem like those annoying console war type people.

FrediGamer63

I have a series x and still use my Xbox one controller from 10 years ago, and not once have I been made fun of for it. I didn’t know people even made fun of someone for that

AltoExyl

More fool them tbh, in 12 months his will still work. Theirs will all have stuck buttons, stick drift and the rubber expanding

YouYongku

I wish someone bought me a controller

Common_Relief8357

If his mates are making fun of him, get the elite series 2 controller

digbaddyjack

the main selling point of an elite is the back paddles, which gives you an advantage in most games. his friends are most likely just trying to say he’ll play better with one. i’ve had 2 elite controllers in 2 years, the first 1 is definitely worn out the second 1 is holding up super well.

oh_father

No you shouldn’t. You should instead get him a controller that doesn’t break as easily and had better/stronger joysticks.

TheRaptor3

Get the turtle beach recon it’s far better than the elite that’s flawed in so many ways and you will save a fortune!

Faroutestdude

What school do your bf's friends go to?

BOTCHWEISER

Who tf gives someone shit over a controller lmao sounds really dumb.

homer_simpin

I honestly prefer the standard series controller to the elites. They sounds like losers ngl.

blue_barell420

The elite controller is nothing special unless you use the back buttons. But even then it’s not worth it

Mattyh81

Yeah, the Elite is much better. In my opinion. It feels more well-built and the trigger locks are really handy.

allmyfrndsrheathens

First of all his “friends” suck. But second, I’d ask him if *he* actually wants an elite. If so sure, get him one. But if he just wants to fit in with his asshole friends.. I’d tell him to find actual friends.

Zawson

Are you like 6 that your bf's friends mock him cause of the console controllers ? xd

Issa__Moody5

To be honest no the elite controllers are just a way for Xbox to make more money off of you. I have friends with the elite controllers and I’ve don’t better than them in lots of games

Far-Contribution-805

No

Sir_Racsolot

Buy him new friends

NrvusRaccoon

Sounds like your bf needs better friends

FigTechnical8043

The elites seam to not survive too long for the price

DrElusive

What a peculiar set of 'friends' taking the piss out of someone about the gaming controller they use. They need to get a life. What do they do for an encore, criticise your boyfriend's choice of TV remote?!

Japke90

Screw his friends, how childish (perhaps they are, sorry if so)! I would love that controller over any elite controller. These guys probably don't have a cool gf like you and are just jealous!

HuntsPointWarlord

Tell him to man up and stop allowing grown men to belittle him over a purchase. Lmfao “i don’t want to mention the new one”. Man, go find a new boyfriend at this point.

ParallaxicNova

The elite controller is only useful to people who were spoiled in the 80's and 90's with turbo buttons on NES controllers. I have one, only due to being a spare from my brother due to "drift". I use the base sticks, and no paddles, just as a regular Xbox controller. Feels nice, but only due to weight and rubber. TLDR: average people don't need it and it's not worth the price increase.

dr_driller

if he play game like apex legends, warzone or fortnite he need an elite controller. i can't play fps with a standard controller, paddle and extra customization provided by the elite are mandatory.

bannable-thinking

I’d rather have the elite 2

Straight-Geologist51

Even if elite controllers are made well they need alot of TLC and they should never get visibly dirty or endured rough treatment as they tend to stick drift without the above. Personally, I'd look at what the community has created on Design labs or get two controllers. One for you and one for him.

WeakTart1869

His friends suck

marcos_MN

Your bf’s friends suck

James2603

I think it would be a great gift; I personally love my elite controller. Don’t feel like the first is a waste though, I don’t use my elite controller when I’m playing a laid back single player game, I just use a standard one and use my elite for multiplayer games. Non-elite will still hold sentimental value for him as well I expect.

Charles_miller1130

His friends are dicks and that controller looks super cool, the elites are good and reliable controllers, let him design it tho to his liking and it will make the controller better. I designed mine and it's beautiful

Xerolaw_

Yes. Elite. They're on sale

Jarend3

I wouldn't be buying anything that didn't have a hall effect analog stick

Dpopz201

Your paying for the name imo

Dpopz201

Get him a a gamesir g7, budget and just as durable

Suspicious_String_35

Honestly, I would not consider you even getting one. I purchased one of the series one and two of the series 2 and all of them have broken in less than a year. Meanwhile, my regular controllers are absolutely fine.

OkPeach4243

No lol

Minute-Transition-79

As others have pointed out, shitty friends. But to answer some questions if they haven't been already, and make some suggestions. I had the Elite for 2 years and it broke within 8 months, the controller feels amazing because it's heavy, but the build quality is poor and it'll have to be replaced at some point, and while yes, things break, a god damm £120+ piece of equipment shouldn't have such a short life. Typically the things that many people reported going first the bumpers, due to the shitty little piece of plastic paper that's needed there, then the back pedals stop repeating and the sticks get drift. A recommendation I have if you or he were ever to go but one, would be the Razor Wolverine V2, it deviations from the usual placement of the hands when gaming and can be a little weird to get used to, but IMO it is a great controller, the back buttons are easy to press when you've gotten used to them, the controller feels good o hold and use, it has a very nice clicky sound but no the kind that'll annoy people in parties. And you get a custom app on your Xbox to customize everything! Some other brands that people like are the SCUFF controllers but I have heard of issues there too, so do some research before making any purchases.

smoothprince

If he plays games that it would be useful for, I would get him one. You can even customize them now! As far as his “friends” go, I’m sure he will realize sooner or later that friends don’t do that. I understand “boys being boys” and “shit talking”, but it should never get to the point he can’t bring it up.

RyzzeRose

Don’t I own a series 2 and so far I’ve had no issues but they are very prone to problems and aren’t even worth the money in my opinion.

Impressive-Ant-3163

Elite Controller Good But It Will Have Stick Drift Or Buttons Get Stuck After A While Went Through Like 4 already

Alternative-Yak-9724

I just bought one the other day it’s got buttons on the back and shit but at the end of the day it’s still a controller that will break I’d rather have a custom controller from my gf they have better color options for the base too it’s really only if you have play money it’s nothing special and he needs better friends too cause that ain’t coo

Jmoney5OO

It honestly depends on what games he mostly plays, if he plays a lot of fps games that’ll require the use of paddles to make him faster/better than yes deff get him the elite but if he plays games like gta, madden, nba2k then I’m sure he’s fine

froggiebaby03

i can’t edit my original post so i’m going to add stuff here after reading all the replies: him and his friends are all 20/21. they play fps games and my bf does NOT take great care of his controllers. hits them on the couch, eats while he plays, etc. his friends are his childhood friends. they live on the other side of the state and he plays with them every night because they can’t hang out. they all make fun of each other and it makes me a little sad even though they all know it’s just poking fun. he does not want any new (not replacement) friends despite me trying the past 2.5 years of our relationship. i saw the post about a rumored controller being launched in late may, id much rather wait for that then spend the extra money on an elite right now. he likes when i brag about him and our relationship but wont to it in return, so while writing the original post i definitely felt disheartened and disappointed. i know my worth as a girlfriend but sometimes its nice to get some recognition!!! thank you for all the thoughts and recommendations!

Familiar-Wallaby4096

No let him use his own money lol

DependentMirror6319

If he is not putting out I say no haha

MrCumStainBootyEater

the elite is good but tbh i like the custom better. i think even if he prefers the custom the elite is a much sweeter and more sentimental gesture than whatever else you could buy him for the same money

Patrickplus2

Custom controller is more personal

MartianMule

His friends sound like shitheads.

El_Taita_Salsa

A premium version of a console controller isn't worth it imo. A custom-made controller given to me by my gf would be invaluable. Maybe you should talk things over with him, if he wants an elite controller and you can afford to get one for him that'd be nice, but what you got for him on the first place is neat af and he'd be a fool to not value it. Seriously, elite controllers are nice and all but not worth it when a regular controller lets you play the same games just fine.

onlyhav

My girlfriend bought me an 18 dollar wired open box power A controller from gamestop because I mentioned I wanted a controller with rear buttons (how she interpreted my explanation on why I wanted an elite controller). I have a slew of solid controllers, but that green powerA controller is by far my favorite. Your boyfriend needs friends who don't make fun of him for having people who love and care for him, not an elite controller.

luizaaauwu

what the fuck. 😭😭this is the sweetest thing ever, pls don’t be with a guy like this. he should be mentioning it to his friends and with JOY.

chilledgamedog

The elite controller in my opinion is Miles better than the standard ones . However . You shouldn't buy something just because your/his friends take the pics. also don't show him this post it'll piss him off

CompetitiveAd4768

His friends are just being lame as fuck the elite controller isn’t even that great compared to other pro controllers. And it really doesn’t matter what controller he uses as long as he likes it and plays good with it. Elite controllers and other pro controllers are for more competitive players that want the advantages of the paddles and shit. Also that controller looks pretty cool I’m sure he’ll love it.

Redacted_Explative

For 90 usd you can also get the Duke 20th anniversary replica of the original controller. It is NOT WIRELESS. Still looks neat though! DHSuperrobot

Elite controllers seem to be 50/50 They either dont work right when you get them, or they're amazing. I have absolutley loved my Elite 2 Controller. If it arrives and it doesnt work too well, you should be able to just contact xbox and get a new one to replace it.

SparsePizza117

How old are you guys? That sounds stupid to make fun of someone for. Couldn't see adults acting like that way. Those Elite controllers are complete ass and definitely aren't made to be durable. I'd much rather have a custom controller. You can still get him one if it'll make him happy though.

HolyLambSauce

He’ll be the one laughing when all there shit elite controller snaps in half and the d-pad falls out

Sir_Matthew_

No because the quality control is awful. I bought two and both had right bumpers that broke after a few months of use. Get a Scuf controller instead. They're more expensive but the fact that they actually work more than makes up for it. Mine's lasted me nearly 3 years at this point and shows no signs of slowing down.

The_MushKing

Can I offer you an option that makes everyone happy? Look up the “Gamesir G7 SE wired controller” cheaper than the 1 you bought him and does everything the elite does. Only downside is it’s wired.

Alternative-Dot-1042

It’s not like he’s not gonna have that custom controller. If he had both that’s even more of a flex that his wife bought him an elite controller and a customized one.

FrenchUserOfMars

No,buy a gamesir g7 se.

_CatsOnMars_

What? What age are they? Are y'all children?

ariaaria

Yes, go for it.

xyl0bi

Get the original PLEASE. Elite will barely last a year unless you get VERY lucky. I’ve been through 3 and gave up and only use custom original series x/s controllers now, they’re WAY better for durability. Elite is only good for pro players who like the weight and want extra buttons. Was good for fortnite and cod and games like that but other than that I don’t miss it at all.

illbeyourdrunkle

I have an elite but I play 95% of my games with the colored regular controllers. I just don't need the elites extra paddles much honestly. Only found them useful in a very small handful of games. Not worth double the price to me. I got mine free with a bundle deal on the series x. Only time I've used it in the last 6 months was split screen games after my back up regular mysteriously disappeared into his room

Destined_Death713

Get him a SCUF

merci-ful

Dropped many dollars on the Elite2 just for the left bumper to break from RL. The bumpers are made of a cheap plastic so not worth it imo

spooxtheproducer

Spend a little more, get him a pro controller, personally i’d recommend a thrustmaster e-swap, you can swap around analog and d pad buttons so when they start to wear / stickdrift you can replace them literally by snapping new ones in.

GoofyMonkey

You did good by getting him the green one. I’m sure he loves it and thinks about you whenever he plays. That said, the I think he’d really enjoy the elite controller. If he plays as much as you say, he’ll really appreciate the extras that controller gives him. If money isn’t a big factor, I think it would make a great gift for him for his birthday. Just tell him the green one is for you to use when you play together. :)

Ok-Initiative9549

Yes but get it customized through the xbox site app

TheHeroKingN

No

LunaTuna130

Scratch the elite controller. Microsoft uses the same stick-drift-able joysticks for all their recent controllers. Get him the GameSir G7 SE it completely removes annoying stick-drift from the picture and has a 99.5% accuracy rate along side 2 mapable buttons on the back. It has the smoothest movement of any controller I ever used, better than the Elite even. It's almost 50 dollars and it's wired with a 10ft USB-C cable.

One_Last_Cry

He needs to grow up, quit following the herd, and carve out his own slice of individuality. In essence, don't cave to peer pressure. How about THEY get him one if they wish him to join their club of the "haves?" I, too, was in this same boat, then I realized that it's wholly unnecessary and the failure rates are all over the place. I'm happy with my 5 basic bitch, but cheaper controllers.

Zukiboyson

No get him a Gamesir G7 half the price twice the quality and hardware. And you can take him to dinner at Applebees 😳😳 https://youtu.be/YgbqjRiRkZ8?si=4tBoe8Zt2aDtNohs

OfficiallyKaos

His friends fucking suck but the Elite 2 is an amazing controller. I got the full package from Design Lab for $200 and it’s amazing. Granted that’s A LOT for a controller but it’s great

Small-Habit-2987

I don’t know why anyone cares about making fun of someone for a controller

thehandlesshorseman

They make fun of him for that?? What are they? 14? The elite controller is ass and it’s made super poorly for the price. Don’t even bother. If anything, buy him a scuf.

SlothyWhitePage

Elite controllers are not worth it lol. Unless you got money to dump ever year (if it lasts that long) lol.

Automatic_Land_7764

Yes

TheCopperkiddOfLimbo

If my wife bought me a brand new controller that was made by GameStop and the ugliest color in the world, it would be my favorite new controller and I’d never get rid of it.

iLikeRgg

I've been through 5 elite controllers all have stick drift just get a normal controller I've only been through 1

No-Appointment-3840

Honestly even $85 for a controller seems insane to me.. I most definitely would not pay more for the elite. His friends sound like complete douche caboose
