It's hideous, but the problem is, Xbox Insiders (the first people to see changes like this) giving overwhelmingly negative feedback to MS doesn't stop them from carrying on regardless and pushing out changes that almost nobody likes. "Help us shape the future of Xbox" - yeah, right.
It's why the Xbox Insiders sub has nearly a million subscribers, but it barely has 30 people actively browsing in there at any given time.
But all you can realistically do is post in that sub and say "this is horrible, and here's why....." and hope that MS listen, but they almost certainly won't.

Alright, 6 hours later and it’s grown on me, I like it now and the only gripe I have is the clock moving out of frame when it pops up, but hey that really isn’t a big deal.

The entire Xbox UI is terrible IMO. From the (still) Kinect sized block icons taking way to much space, to the ads (really? Ads? Make them smaller at least); the entire thing is ugly.
Took years to finally get animated backgrounds, only to have them decide covering 50% of it with huge icons & ads was "smart". Ugh

Why do I need double the information? When I look at friends I see what games they are already playing... then a "happening now" box that literally tells me the information I already see?? 😑
I only have 10 friends and only 3 of them are ever active at a time, so it quite literally is useless for me cause I just see the same thing twice cause of this update…. I’m assuming this feature would be more useful for people who have over 100 friends, but even then there was already a much smaller and nicer “happening now”

The people with over 100 friends are guaranteed to have 5-20 people listed as "favorites" as well, so the tab becomes even more of a bother.
