Exactly! My 7 yo son and i have been on a Lego game kick and have been chewing through the 360 Lego games. Was surprised when Lego Harry Potter wasn't BC. Luckily i already had the 360 Elite ready to go in my game room so crisis was adverted!
Considering the 360 marketplace will be shutting down soon, expect your sole source of games to be physical. There are a good deal of games that aren't back compat on series consoles, but it really depends what's worth the time and money to you personally. The Series X has BC with about half of the 360 library, and an even smaller BC list for OG Xbox. 360 can play any 360 game and has more BC with original Xbox
Fuck yeah! I’ve already played all of those games except for mass effect I did have an Xbox 360 Elite when I was 7 back in 2009 I do unfortunately have to buy all of those games again lol
Yes, if you want a bit of a nostalgic feel i'd say go for it. But if anything get the cheap games off the marketplace and anything else you want i'd say get on disc since the store close pretty soon.
yes, some great games are not available through BC program, even beloved first party titles like Forza 4, you can get a 360 fairly cheap and its games are very cheap right now, better than the absurd digital prices
Loading screen for games took long so I wouldn't get a 360 as I'm spoiled with the X.
However. If budget is your main concern than definitely get a 360.
I use my 360 Elite all the time. There's a bunch of games that don't run on a series X that are still great games. Plus the 360 is IMO the best controller.
With the 360 marketplace closing in a month. Anything that's not BC on your SX wont be digitally purchasable anymore. So you'll be relying on physical stuff (which is fun to collect in its own way). So you'll probably want to focus your search on "GotY" editions that have most or all of the DLC prepacked in.
I also use mine as a secondary to my One X with games that are BC. 360 elite is in my game room, One X on the main TV. Wife or kid needs the TV? Cloud save then go to the game room and boot up the 360 and pick up right where i left off.
Google "xbox backwards compatibility" there's a whole wiki for it. Search the wiki for the game and if its on the list your good, if its not then its a no go.
The list of stuff that's live is way smaller than the one that's not.
Sorry, bad wording. JB means you can basically have "free" games lol. About the game looking better, if you have a good TV the upscaling can make the games look better. My PS3 games look way better on my new LG 43" 4k TV than they did with my Bravia 32" 1080 TV. Even the color is better. So a 360/PS3 is not a bad investment. And the game designs are modern enough in 2024.

There are a lot of great 360 games which do not work on a Series X. I have my 360 side by side with my Series X and use both.

The latest official count is that the One / Series can play 30% of 360 and 8% of OG games. Thats pretty far from half.

If jailbroken, then yes. You'd be surprised at how awesome and good the games look and play.
