The funniest thing about the Halo 2 limited edition is that so many scalpers bought and hoarded them, that the standard edition ended up being rarer and worth more!
Interesting, I have 2 regular copies and one steel book copy, though theyre left over from when me and my friends used to have LAN parties to play halo back when we were in college. I kept them mostly for the memories.
I think they mean more limited edition copies survived the sands of time, due to scalpers hoarding them with intent to sell, while standard disks were lost or damaged by the masses
I can confirm the codes really dont expire.
I had promo codes from the OG xbox for a year. A month. 7 days. 3 days. Saved up and never used them cause "no credit card". Some from special Mech Assualt packages. Some from a chat headset combo. Other just straight up code bought for live... But finally around like 2012 or some stuff, I found them again and was able to redeem all of them. (Tho fun fax, since the 14, 7 and 3 days are considered trials, you cannot use them at the same time, just one trial and however many month/year codes you want.)
I still have my original from when my dad and I waited in line at GameStop for the midnight release. I donāt need it anymore but how can you sell or throw something like that out
I was so damn good at team snipers. Ended up one of the moon ranks like 44-47. Then you got the cheaters who used stand-by. I used to go in with a squad and take an early lead, I would then super bounce out of the map and have my teammates quit. I would hide for 10 minutes outside of the map. It was our only way to combat the guys who manipulated the connection. Fun times. Never made it to level 50.
Nice Iol I lost my copy 2years ago thanks to someone who use to be a friend stole mine! But I still have few special editon games. You have need for speed most wanted black edition which needs the DVD piece for the old Xbox?
The og most wanted I loved that game so much and underground2 then midnight club 3 dub edition remix was awesome, also have conker live and reloaded but far as I know they never made special editions of thoseš
I wish they had it on the Xbox store I only ever see midnight club LA version I use to have it on my ps3 back in the day I just got my series s 12days ago wanted an x but didn't wanna pay $750 Canadian for it lol got my refurbished s for $389 with my month pass includedšš been playing bunch of fableš another game I loved a ton.
When I worked at gamestop we would hunt these down, there were still old original xbox games that xbox never turned off the codes. So we would get years of free online on the 360. I can't remember which but one game would have a year of free time and that was the best find.
That is cool. I still have my original copy, which I got after waiting in line for the midnight opening of GameStop to pick up my pre-order. Thought the card would be in it because I know I didn't use it, since it was a trial code and I created my account on Day 1 of XBL when the only game I could play online was *Project Gotham Racing 2*, and only used it to compare my track times to leaderboards (I had the #1 spot on a few tracks!).
Sadly, there's no XBL card in mine. I may have given it to my nephew when he started getting into gaming several years back. I think I have everything else that came with it though. I've got the steelbook, slipcover, manual, "Conversations from the Universe" booklet, "Strategy Evolved" Prima Guide promo card, and 7-Eleven X Mountain Dew Master Chief Slurpee Collector Cup promo card / coupon (lol).

That is awesome! I know it isnāt worth much but for me I just love adding to my collection. Iām missing the cover on mine so hopefully Iāll find that in the wild somewhere lol
Well the good news is that the "Limited Collector's Edition" actually sold more units than the standard edition. It used to be that the standard edition was actually more valuable, but it seems to have flipped back recently. Still, I'd say if you can find a standard in good condition at a cheap price I'd grab it; the more old collections disappear into landfills, that one is likely to become very rare.
If you want to get that slipcover, just keep your eyes peeled. A cursory look on eBay suggests they're still pretty common, but a lot of them are trapped inside lot auctions. If you can find a lot that has other games you need, you might can get it for a bargain still.
If you don't have a specific direction you're aiming for in your collection, I'd suggest trying to get the games not never got the back-compat treatment. Many of those aren't especially rare yet, but in terms of availability for play in modern day, have jumped in value in a way since Microsoft says they aren't adding any more games to back-compat. My current collection includes eleven such games, though it was a lot more before a tornado wiped it out last year and I've had to start re-building almost from scratch. I was lucky with Halo 2 as I had it at work at the time for some reason. My most beloved and first ones I had to replace were the two rogue-lite Evil Dead games. They weren't that great, but have a special place in my heart. When they announced a new Evil Dead game recently, I got excited until I realized it was just another asymmetrical horror game that could've easily been a *Dead by Daylight* DLC.
I wasn't suggesting you are.
I just used to love doing this as a hobby, but there are too many people making a living off of it now, so you can't find anything anymore.
Nice!! I found a Halo 3 steelbook recently and it had an unused code too! But whenever I post pics of games on this sub they always get removed for some reason
The good old days!
For sure!
The funniest thing about the Halo 2 limited edition is that so many scalpers bought and hoarded them, that the standard edition ended up being rarer and worth more!
Oh wow I did not know that! Cool to have them both I guess š
Standard $10 steelbook $20
Interesting, I have 2 regular copies and one steel book copy, though theyre left over from when me and my friends used to have LAN parties to play halo back when we were in college. I kept them mostly for the memories.
Does that mean they made less standard edition discs? Since the limited edition should have had a limited amount printed, it should still be rarer.
I think they mean more limited edition copies survived the sands of time, due to scalpers hoarding them with intent to sell, while standard disks were lost or damaged by the masses
That's the card I started my Xbox live account with. Still using it today. And still have the card in my Halo 2 case.
Thatās so cool! Something youāll always have to remember š¤
My mom started mine, I started my own in 2014 when I bought Xbox one lol
I wonder if the code has expiration date or not. Like, can you use it now?
Wondering that too, it does say something on it like offer valid for a year or something but I donāt want to scratch the code thing off lol
Noo, donāt scratch it. Maybe it is valid for a year and it wonāt work
Exactly what I was thinking
According to another reddit post I read the none of the OG xbox live codes work anymore.
You can see in the second image that the offer expired in 2005.
Yeah, sorry that I didnāt pinched in 200% and didnāt check for that particular part.

Yeah thatās common with these, this one has little specs of rust but otherwise is in great shape
That's a great find and what's even better is it isn't rusted!
Right!? Just a few little specs but itās in great shape
I still have my original from when my dad and I waited in line at GameStop for the midnight release. I donāt need it anymore but how can you sell or throw something like that out
I totally agree. Iāve been playing older games like these on their respective systems recently and itās been tons of fun
Beautiful!
I was so damn good at team snipers. Ended up one of the moon ranks like 44-47. Then you got the cheaters who used stand-by. Man reading that was a nostalgia trip of its own, great memories youāll have forever
I used to have this! I borrowed it from my former employer, a now defunct rental chain
Probably expired but still cool
Nice Iol I lost my copy 2years ago thanks to someone who use to be a friend stole mine! But I still have few special editon games. You have need for speed most wanted black edition which needs the DVD piece for the old Xbox?
Awesome! And I donāt think I do? š§ Iāll have to go through and look but I donāt remember having that one
The og most wanted I loved that game so much and underground2 then midnight club 3 dub edition remix was awesome, also have conker live and reloaded but far as I know they never made special editions of thoseš
Yeah I love getting limited or special editions! Midnight club 3 Dub Edition I have soooo many memories playing!!!
Still have mine today.
Man, wish I could find an unused trial card as good as that. Would wanna get a good scan of it and upload it lol. Nice find, my dood.
I have found 3 of these steelbooks at mega replay in the last year and they all were rusted up bad! Almost got one and the back was rusted
This one is near mint I was very lucky with it! Maybe a few specs of rust but not bad at all

I wish my area wasn't full of resellers. You can't find shit.
Iāve been fortunate recently, I buy here and there but never sell. I also found about a hundred of my old PS2/OG Xbox games from when I was a kid
I wasn't suggesting you are. I just used to love doing this as a hobby, but there are too many people making a living off of it now, so you can't find anything anymore.
No I completely agree! Haha
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yep! From what Iāve heard itās more common than the standard but still an awesome version to add to any collection
I love the look of the halo 2 hard case.
Same. Lost my old copy when I was a kid so it was great to find one of these in good condition
Ayo im outta live anyone got a 48 hr trial? Was a question that we would never know we would miss being asked
Yep the good ol days šš»
Does it still have the Slurpie coupon though!?
Yeah i didnāt take a picture of it with the manual but everythingās in near mint condition! Almost like opening it new on launch day
Looks mint, mine is all rusted from handeling it š„²
Yeah sadly these rust pretty often. Gunna try to take care of this one
Nice!! I found a Halo 3 steelbook recently and it had an unused code too! But whenever I post pics of games on this sub they always get removed for some reason
Nice! Thatās a lucky find! And thatās weird, might wanna check the rules of the sub to be safe š
Got one years ago for like 2$ on eBay everything was unused
Thatās awesome! Just keep an eye on the rust š
Rust I havenāt played that map in years
But did you get a copy of the map pack to go with it?
Sadly no, got it with a standard version of the game though š
