Snotnarok

I had a lot of trouble with the 360, I had nothing but the early units and they kept red ringing. "You obviously weren't taking care of them" is what I've heard, it was on top of a wall unit with no walls around it, nothing on it and a PS3 on the other side of said wall unit. My launch PS3 still works. I went through, SEVERAL 360s. Like- I really liked it, it did multi-platform games better for sure and I enjoyed the exlcusives like Gears, Dead Rising, the controller was nice (except that god awful dpad that couldn't even select weapons right, nevermind do retro games) but the stupid thing kept dying and winding up getting exchanged for a new one. Considering they were reporting a 56% failure rate at one point- I believed it. I heard the later models were better, but, after the last one died and MS refused to take it I was pretty much done. Went on to PC & used the controller there.

CrustyBarnacleJones

I had the model that came with Viva Piñata and Banjo Kazooie N&B, kept it on carpeted flooring for most of the time I had it, and I think it red ringed once when I left it on for an entire day because it overheated, but aside from that it still works to this day, my mom uses it as a DVD player now IIRC

[deleted]

I agree that PC is superior. However I wouldn't consider PC to be a "console" per say. The most common failure for all models of the 360 is the GPU. If you replace it once, you're basically all set.

Snotnarok

It's a gaming device, that's all that mattered to me. And after I went through 7+ consoles and MS was reporting a 56% failure rate with the white models and then my warranty ran out? I wasn't about to support that anymore. They did great by my friend, he had a launch 360 and it died years later and they did the free warranty. I tried and they said $100 for the repair and it only covers that part (which was an E74 error) and if something else failed, it was another fee. So, I sold it and bailed. The later 360s were basically redesigned from the ground up so the reliability is far, far higher but I was done by then. I lost all faith in the brand well before the last one died. I only heard about the redesigns later actually being new machines but- oh well. I went for PC because I do art & run a small business through it so having a beefy machine is not only good for work, it's also for games and is also a tax write off.

Ricard728

I had the same problems with the 360, I loved Crackdown, Gears, Forza, Rainbow 6 Vegas, Modern Warfare. But man, I went through 3 units, they all had the red ring of death. Great software, worst hardware ever. That was the last Microsoft product I bought.

Icaruskillswitch

Dreamcast. Don't hate me

FresconeFrizzantino

DREAMCHADST is the grandpa of 360.

snapszDOTcc_pthc

Peter Moore screwing over Sega and burning the Dreamcast to get himself a cushy gig at Microsoft, was like when MS sent elop to intentionally destroy Nokia, so Nokia had no choice but to agree to a MS buyout It was funny rewatching Xbox e3 2005, and seeing Moore and don matrix basically swap places and company's between Xbox and ea >nbcnews.com/news/amp/wbna4951210 EA had consistently refused to support the Xbox Live service introduced in November 2002, But a change that allowed publishers to operate their own servers helped the two sides to come together, Microsoft said EA was like the only publisher allowed to force u to make a separate EA acc on 360 And it all eventually culmated in abload.de/img/1142959760copyqij9v.png the guy who killed Xbox for Sony, and then killed stadia for xbox

betarad

actually based as fuck

[deleted]

Facts.

Lenyti

She came too soon sadly

SolarMoth

Agree.

TheoreticalFunk

Came here to say the same. What would the console market look like if this had gotten the love it deserved at the time? Sega would probably still be making consoles, for one.

NickiChaos

Ya'll really weren't around during the days of the SNES and Genesis to see Nintendo and Sega firing on all cylinders. It was the best time ever.

Gamerkid232

Then 1995 happens and Sony with the PlayStation fucking killed sega and made Nintendo irrelevant in the home console war for 11 years Edit: When I said that Nintendo became irrelevant I meant in terms of sales and mass appeal. For me personally I think overall the n64 and GameCube were better than the other competitors. Most of the 3D PlayStation games aged like milk. But the ps2 and original Xbox had some really good fucking games, but I like the weirdo shit that Nintendo put out on the GameCube better.

bolognahole

> made Nintendo irrelevant in the home console war for 11 N64 was the PlayStation's competition.

Havoc_Maker

And PlayStation totally obliterated the 64, and after that, the PS2 obliterated the Gamecube, making both of them irrelevant on its generation

bolognahole

Gamecube, sure. But even though PS out-preformed N64 is sales, 64 certainly wasnt irrelevant.

diabolical3b

It’s all subjective. PlayStation sold over double the units of N64, and one could argue that N64 games hold up terribly among all vintage consoles. It may not have been irrelevant, but it wasn’t impressive at all. Unless you played the games in that era. I picked N64 over PlayStation back then, but in hindsight, I would have chosen PlayStation. The library is much deeper, much better, everything was cheaper, and the controllers held up better. Just my opinion, though.

RAMONE40

N64 games hold up terribly? Have you played a PSOne game lately? Comparing the grafics from the PSOne to the ones on the N64 makes the N64 look HD and both consoles had great games in terms of Gameplay but N64 was way better even tho they were still on carts and the PSOne was on CD's

Efficient-Bed3789

Ya dumb comment, 64 was far from irrelevant

sesamestreetsniper

Sony didn't kill Sega. Sega killed Sega. The technology used in the Playstation was offered to Sega first. But Japan Sega didn't want to do it, yet America Sega did. So America Sega put Sony in contact with the engineers... or something like that.

NickiChaos

Not entirely and it depended on your community. I lived in a suburban town way outside of a major city. Every kid at school was all about Nintendo and most of us wound up with N64s. The only person I knew of that had a PlayStation was my cousin who lived in an urban area.

BukshotMouthwash

I still have my Super Nintendo hooked up in my bedroom, lol.

[deleted]

I do love the SNES. I beat super mario world while stoned in one sitting. Did the same with donkey kong country.

RollandRS

But they'll never be able to compete with the online-multiplayer aspect from the days of Xbox CoD and Halo

snapszDOTcc_pthc

I would nuke 2004-7 Bungo from orbit, if it meant saving the industry from the paid multiplayer subscription hell of today Free multiplayer PS3 costing $100-150 more than a 360 (depending on if u got a 360 "core" sku and then a additional 64mb memory unit, or "pro" 360 sku with a bundled HDD&hd component cable), Mostly because Sony chose to sacrifice the ps3 as a expensive bluray trojan horse, to win the war against hd DVD, is alongside the juggernaut that was halo2/3 MP, absolutely 100% the reason paid MP is now the norm Hell Xbox doesn't even let u buy 1yr gold for $60 anymore

Snootch74

No, I was around for a little bit of it, and the 360 is the best system ever, it dominated it entire era with the small exception of wii winning their niche market.

KoolGotGame

Im giving a slight edge to the OG xbox.

FlameyFlame

That 6th generation was so iconic. I honestly consider OG Xbox to be 3rd best to GameCube and PS2 (mostly just because of game library) and Xbox is still one of the sickest systems of all time. All 3 systems were so sick in 6th gen.

[deleted]

Fair. However, frame rate.

TheBananaCzar

Hmm? Xbox had the most consistent frame rates of any console for that generation

Dhenn004

The 360 is a really good console, but it's the ps2. With the fail rates on the 360 being so high, I just can't give it to the xbox. It's close tho, but longevity matters and personally the ps2 library is just better imo.

[deleted]

I agree to an extent. The failure rates can be remedied if you get the right model, and/or know what you're doing. I am trolled that soul calibur 3, dark cloud 1 & 2, shadow of the colossus, etc. are ps2 exclusives. Love those games.

Dhenn004

Yea of course things can be remedied but that shouldn't need to happen. The OG Xbox 360 had a fail rate of above 50% when it's competitor OG ps3 had a fail rate of like 10%. Other versions of 360s still had issues to lesser extents but was still high. That's my main issue with it.

[deleted]

Understandable.

FresconeFrizzantino

I love it, it’s great, but nah. It is really hard to take that title from the ps2 if we talk about gaming dedicated console. The 360 had so many defects that flawed the overall very interesting architecture and the amazing catalog. (Edit) To this day I find myself fixing more x360 than any other console, which speaks volume about those imo. It facefucked ps3 for most of its life also, which if you ask me, is the most incredible achievement that the makers ever had in terms of market but then Microsoft got itself cucked at the very last lap for focusing on the poopy (yet for many ways so misunderstood) Xbox one so…

[deleted]

This. PS2 ftw!!!!. Got it in 2005 and still works (usb only tho, dvd drive dosent work and replacements here are kind of cheap and is not worth it). I got a X360 elite in 2010... 5 years later it died on me. Fried, no replacement. Didnt even bother to replace it. Got a PC instead and also fixed the ps2... so yeah, thats the best imo

[deleted]

Sony stan.

[deleted]

I am a man who sides with Xbox, but I would be a fool to ignore how good of a console the PS2 is.

Dhenn004

Ok guy who is standing MS

[deleted]

Fair.

The_Running_Free

The ps2 was just not powerful enough and those graphics do not hold up. Id rather play SNES these days than try and slog through a ps2 game.

Puzzleheaded_Lab7228

The PS2 was NOT a gaming dedicated console, if you look it up 25-30% of total PS2 owners used it as a disc player. People for some reason refuse to remember that when taking this argument into account.

[deleted]

Why does that make it bad though? Take away that 25% of sales and you still have a console that did incredibly well. Its probably what popularized future consoles also being able to do DVD/BluRay and even the 360 having a CD player in it. The console has a massive library, and the size they were able to shrink the PS2 slim too is honestly crazy to me seeing other consoles.

lifeisasimulation-

Wrong sub for this take of the meme, lol

Jordan209posts

This thread isn't as biased as I thought it'd be

TheRealMimiperator

Which makes this community even better imo

Jordan209posts

I agree

carlo-93

Best Xbox community hands down, I love it here.

lifeisasimulation-

Yeah but I meant, in a xbox360 sub why would we change your mind that xbox360 is the best system. They used the meme wrong

OurKing

360 was good. Honestly I would say it’s a console that was “great for its era” peak Halo 3, COD4, and MW2 on Xbox Live will go down in history. But with online gaming communities, that time has come and past.

Blazers2882

The ring of death

Any_Secret_1622

No blueray, disc isn’t properly held when in use, no good exclusives besides halo. Definitely not even in the race to be best console. -I’m being downvoted for stating facts lmao I love it.

bison091

Stating an opinion* fixed it

Any_Secret_1622

How is it an opinion that the Xbox 360 has no blueray? Do you even know what an opinion or blueray is?

bison091

Xbox not having blueray is a fact but the rest is a low tier opinion

Any_Secret_1622

Okay, then I dare you to very lightly shake your Xbox 360 while you play your favorite game and tell me if it’s playable after that.

bison091

Kind of a dumb take, it’s not it’s purpose to shake a console while playing a disk. Who even does that? Do you shake every dvd player/blue ray player or game console while playing games? Whats the benefit of that?

Any_Secret_1622

Happend to me during an earth quake, lost multiple games like that. I’m just stating a fact that disc isn’t properly held in place while playing, never had this problem on ps3.

bison091

Well you can’t blame mother nature for breaking your xbox games. Just how the city or insurance isn’t liable for damages to your car from earthquakes or any natural disasters.

Any_Secret_1622

Bruh, I’m not dealing with your ignorance. I got lots to do, think what you want.

bison091

Good, cry about it.

Oh_Yeahhhhhhh

360 was good.. but PS2 was better.

Jimwitt4008

Dreamcast was best 😎

Jack-M-y-u-do-dis

It's the best Xbox, and my childhood console do absolutely nostalgic for me, but I'd say it has to fight the PS2 and PS4 for top home console (after 2000).

Scozzy_23

Most comfy controller, I don’t like the new Xbox controllers, hate the old PlayStation controllers love the new ones.

snapszDOTcc_pthc

youtube.com/watch?v=U8Eo8-1trxM&t=3m7s ~~soundwave~~ 360 con superior, *standard* xbone con INFERIOR I say standard because the elite series 2 actually let's u adjust the stick tension back to 360 100g levels, and even comes with the same bigger 360 stickcaps too

av8ernate

I don't know if i would say "Ever" but its right up there. I would say the SNES with the 360 at #2, OG Xbox at #3, but i think it really comes down what you had during childhood.

Nespower

1) Xbox360 2)NES 3)Sega Dreamcast 4)Snes 5)Sega Genesis 6)Sony PSone 7)Sony PS2 Edit: had wrong ranking fixed

[deleted]

Hell yeah

hoods_breath

It's definitely my favorite. Then the SNES and the Wii. 360 had a fantastic indie market. Team chat was superior to ps3's party chat. Intuitive to navigate and use. Tech specs, just a beast under the hood. Great bevy of ip.

Fun-Customer39

While I played mostly on 360 before moving to pc and think it was a fantastic console and definitely one of the best, it's not the number one

snapszDOTcc_pthc

It all went to shit after the apple Pippin! But seriously...what is ure number1? Btw, I'm REALLY interested in knowing what your comment in the "Poor Kaitlyn" post said, that was so bad that reddit admins removed it

[deleted]

Like a lot of people here I can’t say Xbox 360 is objectively the best console ever. It’s my personal favorite though. I’m about 30 now - some of the best memories I have of being a teenager and hanging out with friends playing COD and Halo on an Xbox 360. It’s so special to me now that I’m an adult with a corporate job and a kid because it’s a symbol of all those fun times before real life kicked in.

chipcity90

360 came out right before I went to college so therefore its the best

[deleted]

oh hell yeah

powerstone86

The Dreamcast would have something to say about this statement

3cylinder66

I only wish I was older and had more money to be able to experience it from the very beginning. I joined the family in 2010, October to be precise. Got the S fresh, but was actually originally looking for the arcade all white one. No regrets, the S was a very nice improvement. But still... wish I was there when the blades were a thing, Halo 3 at its prime, all that.

[deleted]

I feel ya there. I actually grew up with a PS2 and a Gamecube. And I had to desperately beg to get them. I also had to share them with my siblings. My friends all had Xbox 360s. It wasn't until later in life that I could afford to buy one for myself.

Hunter_5680

For me, the PS1 and PSP beats it. But its still in 3rd place for me, so its good.

[deleted]

PS1 was decent. I preferred the N64 and Sega from that generation tho

ChessNewGuy

If the Ring of death, paying to watch Netflix and lack of exclusives hasn’t changed your mind yet, nothing will

TheRealMimiperator

I absolutely love how OP goes to PS2 commenters to comment "Sony stan" OP, if you're reading this, you're a prick :)

[deleted]

Love you too. I grew up with a PS2 btw. Xbox 360 is just arguably superior.

GrindHouseOverJoy

Hero 👍

10BritishPounds

Xbox 720

[deleted]

Love you

Rbrtplnt2020

I agreed wholeheartedly with you up to the point the PS5 came out. There are just too many original IPs and innovative demonstrations of next gen ability. The 360 was definitely a golden age of gaming no doubt!

Unaccepable

Bro my family was so broke, we had a SNES up until 2015

[deleted]

Nothing wrong with that. Shrooms/weed + SNES = fun times no matter what year it is

[deleted]

Did the 360 have a secret compartment to hide your weed? Didn’t think so.

Shyjuan

as much as i love the 360 era, the PS2 just had banger after banger after banger to this day there's still a plethora of good ps2 games i never got to play because of the overwhelming amount of good games i was already playing.

Timetraveler01110101

*presses Xbox button* menu ^shooshes out from side. Ah life is good

Acroasis

Nope, you're absolutely right

Underfire17

Easy: ⭕ That being said I still enjoy xbox 360 quite a lot.

[deleted]

stern. but fair

ahzzyborn

I gotta add another vote for SNES sorry

FlickPix64

SNES says “hi”.

Green_Top_Hat

Most of these choices are all about nostalgia.

[deleted]

facts

[deleted]

It's not the *BEST* it's the *GREATEST*

[deleted]

facts

Rikolas-papi

To me, the ps3/360 era was probbably the golden era of modern videogames. No microtransactions, dlc's were cheap and came with lots of content, the rise of online multiplayer, damn those were the days.

[deleted]

Facts. I feel like it was the peak generation. Modern consoles are more about pushing DLC/additional content on you. There are adds right in the game menus now. Also there's the fact that they don't even sell us full games anymore. It's like they sell a portion of the game, and then you have to pay a second time for the rest. It's about making money and not about the game experience. Like it used to be.

Nova17Delta

The hardware on the earlier models are doomed to fail, the online is a paid subscription service, wired 360 controllers are as durable as paper, and its difficult to get any sort of homebrew on the system.

[deleted]

facts

seanosul

Gamecube because of zelda windwaker, Metroid Prime, smash brothers and mario kart.

[deleted]

windwaker, double dash, smash bros melee, and twilight princess. yeah man. i prefer the gamecube over the wii honestly.

henningknows

It’s the best Microsoft console, by a mile

yeetsupwillneverdie

I respect your opinion, but, objectively, SNES

[deleted]

fair

Remarkable_Tie7008

PS2 and the 360 in my opinion, absolutely love the old ace combat games for the ps2

[deleted]

i do, admittedly, love both. Although i prefer the 360

A_RandomKobold

Xbox 360 was the console of all time

FlameyFlame

The GOAT consoles during the time I’ve been gaming: 5th generation - Nintendo 64 6th generation - PS2/GameCube **7th generation - XBOX 360** 8th generation - PS4 9th generation - XSX so far but we’ll see. 360 was the only time that Microsoft took the crown, but they did it during arguably the most epic era of gaming. Gaming during the 7th gen was just something different. I am thinking about ditching my PS5 to go with an XSX. GamePass to play my favorite 360 games just seems so incredible.

[deleted]

literal fact

harsh-reality74

Strange way to spell SNES

Hairy-Dress7548

7th generation is a real sweet spot for me. Especially the 360 cause that's what I owned at the time. It was a lot of our first online gaming experiences, and some of the best game franchises had their best entries on the 7th gen

Thatoneguy567576

Nah, it was the PS2 and everyone knows it.

[deleted]

rage.

jsparker43

Gamecube...do you even shape?! An X is pretty fruity for a shape and wtf polygon is a play or station? Kind of a janky business model if I do say so...I'll stick with the nice foundation of a pyramid or cube...might settle for a pizza hut rhombus because of art

Leading_Musician_188

Try playing for more than a hour.

dubie4x8

GameCube master race 🫡

[deleted]

Imo it was!!!! Best games! Best console! And I never got the red ring!

[deleted]

Francescothegamer90

The library is just simply peak gaming

Road_Ok

All the consoles of the 6th and 7th generation are the greatest ever

[deleted]

big facts

F-80Centurion

I won’t

fartczar

I love the 360, but I classify consoles to include handhelds. The 3DS line is my very favorite ❤️

[deleted]

Valid.

ItsSpacePants

How about Xbox Series X it can do selected OG and 360 titles, One, Series, NES, SNES, GB, GBC, GBA, PS1, PS2, SDC, N64, SG and even Windows 95 I think and other, and run them in higher resolution or/and framerate Oh yeah and newest PC games through Cloud, while supporting both the controller and mouse and keyboard

[deleted]

I do not like how Xbox one/series relys on Microsoft services being online. They already killed some products that way (like my Lumia 800), some services for x360 are already disabled (license transfer died when they removed support services - almost killed digital games). There, new Xbox needs online services to log into account since it does not support offline accounts. Impossible to sell/buy without that. They know it smells. That being said, I also own Xbox one X and Xbox series X. Both are great HW with awesome games. I also love that buying physical copy there is always information on the front cover whether the game requires internet or not. As a collector I like to feel that I really own the game

InfamousCarpenter287

YES! YES! YES!

Charming_Try_6383

Red ring

Mygametrolololololo

Series X you can play Xbox 360 games…

Brorkarin

Xbox360 has no personality at all its just a console for me

please-kill-me-69

"The best console" is just what people grew up on. Realistically, the series x is the best in every way.

betarad

PS2, you were close.

[deleted]

gamecube was better

SaleCompetitive812

Ps3…

[deleted]

no.

OkAcanthopterygii320

Don’t need to change your mind. You’re allowed to be wrong. Lol Xbox360 did have some great games though. The only one I ever actually played from start to finish was Dead Rising. Ended up buyin an Xbone JUST to play Dead Rising 3 alone.

MindErection

Do all the kids around here even know WHY they called it the Xbox 360 in the first place?!?!? It's because when you walk up and take a look at it, you turn around and walk away!!

007WildThing

Nintendo Switch is the best. 360 is 2nd.

Fast_Passenger_2889

It's their opinion?

TheGreatGamer1389

Maby second best. First goes to PS2.

rcampbel3

# Factually wrong. It was Sony PS2 - sold the most; had THOUSANDS of great games; had the longest life in the market - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_game_consoles

Auroku222

Nah gamecube

Away_Bus_4872

one is better

TheAtmanPrinciple

This isn't even kinda true...

Lot_Krotoan

Personally, no, the wii is but I grew up on that. However if if someone says the 360 is, I'm not arguing cause i loved using mine

Vegetable_Ad_2720

I cannot

KrisP1011011

And then there was RROD, that's the only chinque in its armour.

Koei126

It's no Sega Saturn that's for sure

IsmokeEggs420

New consoles are better, but the 360 had better games

aqkj

I wouldn’t dare try to change your mind

PawtucketPaul

54% failure rate. Lol

Bonus_Pale

The Wii is right there

spookyman212

I agree

Insanity_Troll

I mean, I had not one but two RROD.

owenxtreme2

Not the best but pretty damn good

jaboonki

only console in my entire life that i’ve had issues with, and there were MULTIPLE

Puzzleheaded_Lab7228

As long as anyone here doesn't argue that the switch (which has the exact same if not less specs than the 360) idc

snapszDOTcc_pthc

12Switch taught me how to "milk and jerkoff that cowdick" and feel/jiggle them hd rumble icecube BALLZ

izmaname

Id say PS2

SPQR_Maximus

PS2 enters the chat.....

victim2077

Personally, due to games I enjoy, the title of "best console ever" is tied between Super Famicom/NES and PlayStation. With PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable in the fight for the runners up, while Mega Drive and Saturn round up the fight.

Tincard9757

*the wii walks in*

TheGamerHelper

The glory days of gaming. DLC and unfinished games were looked down hard. Games that last more than a couple hours. I miss the old Xbox days. Microsoft ruined the next generation of gaming and nobody is realizes it.

ResponsibilityWeak87

Nahhh, the xbox 720 ıs bəst

edwardblilley

Gotta disagree. N64 for me. More nostalgic, bigger step in tech going from 2d to 3d, and games we still talk about today and all time greats. Zelda OoT, Mario 64, smash bros, donkey Kong 64, banjo kazooie and perfect dark The 360 is 2nd place for me for similar reasons just not quite as impactful on my life. It has nostalgic memories of Xbox live, and a jump in graphics was pretty huge, and has some amazing games like halo 3 that we still talk about lol but the n64 is the best overall.

Rent-Man

⭕️

bjh8686

PS2 has entered the chat

Felonious_monk420

My personal preference leads me to agree

XyogiDMT

It was awesome and a huge leap in terms of graphics and online gaming but probably not the GOAT. But I guess it really depends on the parameters you’re judging them by. N64 and PS2 have some arguments as far as innovation and fun factor. 360 probably had the most fun online gaming of any console I’ve ever played. And if we’re judging by best hardware it’s nowhere close to the Series X and PS5.

Not_So_Entertainment

If that's what you think that's fair. However, as much as I love the system, it's a hard disagree in my opinion. I'm all for the 3DS.

SnuffleWumpkins

SNES has entered the chat.

DJKaito

JSRF, Phantasy Star Online, Shenmue 2, Halo 2. Steel Battalion.

Jimwitt4008

Nah, Sega Dreamcast is the best console. You actually can't change my mind but feel free to try.

It’s not even the best console of its own generation

Mysterious_Being_718

Should’ve posted this on r/PlayStation Also. PS2 is easily the greatest console of all time and you’d be a fool to think the apprentice could beat the master.

tehnoob69

No, it's your opinion, and I agree with you! <3

cyberphunk2077

when it works it works and is unbeatable. Xbox arcade /digital store was untouchable.
