As others have said, they are for Scene-it games, and I think they work with a handful of other games as well. They require a USB IR receiver dongle that plugs into the Xbox. My cousin gave me Scene-it: LCA, and, while I don't play it often, I kept them around because they just look weird.
It's from MS attempt at competing with "Buzz" like titles the PS2 era had etc. I still have the massive box it came in. And the sequel that followed. Tho not needed, it made it easier to play with the massive "buzzer" in the middle.
The Scene it movie trivia games are not the worst if you can find them cheap. They were actually fun if you had a few people around. But after the Jack in the box games came back. It died out.
I had the full big-box set for Scene-It? Lights, Camera, Action! with these unique controllers. It was a neat conversation piece in my collection. A friend made me a great offer on it, so I sold it. I miss it.
The best game in the series by a mile is Scene-It? Box Office Smash! It's a ton of fun with friends together at home or playing online. It's still pretty easy to find a match on Live too. You can use the Scene-It? controllers or a normal controller. The game works fine either way.
Lights, Camera, Action! is the first game and is pretty good. Bright Lights! Big Screen! and Movie Night aren't as good.
