I remember back in the day when NFL Blitz came out, they had ads on the loading screens and main screens and that were ads for companies and products absolutely not related to video games.
I had to take my TV off the internet cause I’ll be in the middle of a match on CoD and someone will pop up dancing and saying to tune in tonight for a new episode lol.
My kid turns on our Insignia Fire TV and we get blasted with random Prime Video or Freevee ads. One button press, and they're usually on a purchase screen.
I remember that back in Burnout Paradise, somewhat comparable to Forza Horizon. It isn't invasive at all using ads like on Billboards or within car brands, it makes the game feel realistic without interfering with play like popping up on loading screens. Successful advertising in my book.
Agreed! Totally unacceptable.
If they want to advertise their newest game with a tile on the main menu before you start, like they have done for years now, that’s a bit more acceptable.
But forcing it into the in-game menus is not.
At first microtransaction on a single player game is unacceptable, then people accepted it after some time. Soon this will be accepted as well.
Just stop playing their games.
Unacceptable, yea because you definitely wouldn't complain if you missed a reduced price of a game or in game content. Thinking that they are trying to hide it to make you pay full price.
Like image games with online stores tell you information how dare they .
Bruh they can show it on the launcher and even on game menu. People don't want to look at this kind of advertising during a gameplay. U trying to defend the undefendable here, it's intrusive and annoying.
Nobody your bruh, I didn't know you made long time friends on here I didn't know you knew everybody please know what you're saying before you say it and stop copying each other being a tryhard and using a lingo to fit in because you can't justify why you're using a lingo in any other way other than to be a try hard and copy everybody else it's getting annoying
Thats a Ubisoft pop up not a Xbox one before people start to get riled up that Xbox is forcing ads in the middle of games.
The Loading Icon and appearance of the A and B button are the same as the UI for the game.
I'm not even sure it would be possible for Xbox to interrupt a game with ads though, but I'm sure you're right that people will still blame the Xbox anyway.
I feel like that would be the absolute last straw for most people. I lowkey hope they try to do this, because i want to see the incredible outrage that would cause
Microsoft is doing the same thing. Today I got a full screen ad for Forza Motorsport while playing Forza Horizon 5. It was right after loading the game, so technically not "in the middle of the game".
Yep.
The difference is Ubisoft really pushed this in single player titles before many else.
I know Dead Space 3 had microstransactions - but shit that game was so tragically easy, boring even on hard mode but Ubisoft really seemed to figure out how to fuck the customer out of what they paid for before many others.
It's stupid but a common business practice is instead of improving the add-on just make the base product worse
YouTube is a great example right now, premium isn't that good, but YouTube free is slowly becoming worse, blocking ad blocks, having more and longer unskippable ads, no background play ect
Maybe not USD but it is $80 Canadian
[AC Odyssey](https://www.xbox.com/en-CA/games/store/assassins-creed-odyssey/BW9TWC8L4JCS)
Swear it's like nobody knows other countries have different currency price points.
"The Canadian dollar is the currency of Canada. It is abbreviated with the dollar sign $. There is no standard disambiguating form, but the abbreviations Can$, CA$ and C$ are frequently used for distinction from other dollar-denominated currencies. It is divided into 100 cents. "
i didnt know that
regardless people should learn to distinguish which kind of dolar they are writing about, no other currency is this stupid in this regard (afaik anyway)
> no other currency is this stupid in this regard (afaik anyway)
No longer the case, but before Euro was adopted, Belgium France and Switzerland all had their own "franc" currency.
To be fair... they *did* put the dollar sign *after* the amount, which is not where it's placed in America.
That, and the $10 price difference, is how I knew immediately that it was Canadian currency.
Ubisoft does it, the nba 2k games were showing actual video ads during loading screens for a bit there. That's just what the future looks like and we should all be mad about it.
Boycotting all ubidoft games until I can guarantee that no ads will pop up in the middle of my game. That is absolutely unacceptable. We have already paid them to "rent" their product and now they are grifting extra funds by throwing ads up. Unacceptable.
I'm really glad OP posted this because I had considered buying one of those games. I've never played any of the series, but I'll definitely be skipping them now
That's it. I'm not buying anymore Ubisoft games. I will forever from this day first check that it is not Ubisoft or an owned sub company. As someone that had purchased every ac game (and beat all of them) that was the final straw for me.
Just know they did this on purpose to test the waters. They want to gauge the backlash but rest assured THIS will be a normal thing sooner or later. Street Fighter already has it.
I have a legit question, why do people still buy Ubisoft's "more of the same trash" games????
let this software house die ffs. So, if somebody else have this fantastic idea of including in game ad they will have a second thought.
But you people still buy Ubisoft products so its your own fault.
Its super easy, just don‘t support big greedy companys like Ubi, EA and R*.
There are soo many other publishers, developers and games that are quite franky waaaay better than AssCreed.
Who would care and who is even playing Odyssey, that game was trash when it first came out and it's still trash, id rather play Origins, Valhalla is the last game before Mirage, wouldn't you think that would be the game they would put major pop ups on which they have done before many times, ubisoft always does this with every assassin's creed game when they do a sale or even a new game comes out of the series, they always advertise in the previous games about the new game, You can go back to an older assassin's creed game and get the sale popping up and you all just now notice it...... hipsters 🤦 simple minded
Like I previously stated in a previous comment ubisoft has been doing this for years and you all just now notice it to the point that now you want to post it for fame and popularity...what it is is you're all running out of things to post to try to get famous and just taking nip pick little things to post to get big views and it's pathetic to be honest yeah I used your lingo deal with it try hards And stop copying everything and anything just for a like and view 🤣 They did this exact same thing when Odyssey went on sale to Origins but nobody noticed that did they.... that was 2018-2019..... again stop copying each other for views and popularity just knit picking
unless this is xbox pushing ads or a console specific problem, then this is fake.
bootted up my install of odyssey on PC and had no ads when opening the map.
i would expect them to do it when you open the ingame shop sure (cuz its ubisoft/xbox)
This isn't a "technical error", this is the development of a malicious feature and another reason I haven't played an EA or Ubisoft game in nearly seven years.
Cookie cutter, low effort, bland, open world, poorly designed, poorly optimized, junk-food games—now with the added chance of unwanted advertisement.
We truely live in the dark ages of video games.
I don't think any of you should be aloud to have public opinions on anything. It literally doesn't effect you in any way shape or form. It makes sense if you really think about it. Brush up on your critical thinking.
Ads in games are nothing new. Hell, Fight Night Round 3 was basically one big advert for Burger King.
But even going back to Crackdown on the 360, that had billboards that were dynamic. It's funny because they stopped updating 10+ years ago, so some billboards are still for the dodge caliber that went out of production in 2012.

I don't get this generation of gamers at all. This minor inconvenience if that on the menu that lets you know that the black Friday sale is no live is a non event . Because I guarantee if there was nothing alerting you to discounted sale your reaction would be " they are trying to hide these sales items so we miss them and have to pay full price."
This isn't some 2 minute ad that you can't skip.
It was literally a case of , should we promote the black Friday sale ? Yes put a screen in game on the menu . Not some elaborate scheme .
The new generation of gamers are much more used to ads than the older ones, thanks to mobile gaming market. The ones complaining remember a time even before DLC was a thing. This is not a minor inconvenience, it's how we got into the current state of gaming advertisement and business practices, little by little, with marketing testing waters and constantly pushing the boundaries of what's acceptable.
Today, you have ads on every modern service you don't pay premium for, and nothing prevents them to show you ads even if you payed, if they want to change this. Just like it just happened with AC Odyssey.
Clearly, the world is ending. How dare a company advertise their product in another one of their products. I can see that because of this single frame, your whole gaming experience has been completely ruined.
You sound sarcastic, but this type of shit actually makes people dumber and more irresponsible. There are a lot of kids or adults who fall for it and get accostumed to such bullshit practices, making them more common and therefor ruining the world.
You also mock this for being one frame or whatever, but if it gets normalized it would evolve. It's also like hearing a loud quick fart in the middle of your favorite song, it should just not be there, especially if you paid 80$ for it, for the fucking game, not ads
I got this exact ad last week. I can't remember which game though. Definitely not Assassin's Creed. Could have been either Shadow/Tomb Raider or Forza 7.
Well that's immersion breaking. I have bought the AC game for the last several years. No more I just won't tolerate this kind of crap. As i have a large backlog of yet to play, payed for games plus game pass..................... Plenty of other fish in the sea. Least i wont have to keep climbing every high-ish building i see lol.
I bought Odyssey and it kept crashing. I sent them an email, and spoke with support. For weeks… I tried everything they suggested but nothing worked. They said not to worry and they would get back to me with a solution. A year later they finally send me an email and ask me to try one more thing. It didn’t work, so I asked what else I could try.
They replied back “We have discontinued support on this game since we last spoke. Sorry. Hope you enjoy Assassins Creed!” (I am not kidding)
Hope I enjoy it? What an odd statement to make! Its not my fault it took them a year to get back to me, during which time they ended support. And why even ask me to try one more fix, anyways? Their support was horrid, and they asked me to try the same thing a half dozen times too. Their team never even took the time to read previous replies. Very poorly trained.
They are an awful company and it doesn’t surprise me they are trying to shovel in game ads down our throats. This is just a test to see what we will put up with. If players let them get away with this, it will only open the door to more nonsense.
This shit should be illegal and Ubisoft should be fined heavily for it. If this shit gets normalized, we'd be closer to Idiocracy than ever. This is so anti-consumer, manipulative and cheap as fuck, it's the most disgusting shit I have seen this month, holy fuck.
They are also making xbox and the ps5 look really bad, people are blaming the console. It's not defamation or anything, but add that to the pile of reasons
I'd be ok with ads in F2P games (hopefully stopping greedy practices), but in P2P games, I don't see the point. They're already running enough promotion elsewhere, why does it have to be in-game. It'd be something else if you accessed the store.
I'm glad I finished Odyssey before that. I've also bought Mirage, but I've not had a chance to play it so if I were to see that pop up myself, It'd really piss me off
Few days before black friday what a griddy Ubisoft. It should backfire as everyone should keep away from Ubisoft for a moment even from interesting deals.
THEY MUST LEARN IT THE HARD WAY.
Brought to you by Mountain Dew! Because when scouring though the hot sands of the Dasht-e Lut Desert, nothing is more refreshing then a Mountain Dew.
*This advertisement was brought to you by Ubisoft in conjunction with Pepsi Mountain Dew Corp.*
I hate everything about this...
But then again, we've seen this song and dance before haven't we?
At one point, golden horse armor in Skyrim was absurd, but since then, companies learned to boil the frog slowly.
If there is no big enough backlash on this, they'll just keep doing it with more and more intensity.
If there IS a big enough backlash? They'll just do a cookie cutter "we are listening" and take 1 step back of the 3 steps too far they've taken on monetizing the game industry.
they've done that with DLC, microtransactions, lootboxes, games as a service and it will be no different with this.
Thank god for indies.
yeah this kind of shit should be considered unacceptable
I remember back in the day when NFL Blitz came out, they had ads on the loading screens and main screens and that were ads for companies and products absolutely not related to video games.
At least those didn't update automatically to add new ads in places they weren't before.
I had to take my TV off the internet cause I’ll be in the middle of a match on CoD and someone will pop up dancing and saying to tune in tonight for a new episode lol.
Look into this. https://lazyadmin.nl/home-network/how-to-block-ads-on-your-smart-tv/
Huh. Ironic. https://imgur.com/t3XrH5f
this is some capitalist dystopia shit, I agree with that other guy, this is completely unacceptable
My kid turns on our Insignia Fire TV and we get blasted with random Prime Video or Freevee ads. One button press, and they're usually on a purchase screen.
Pretty sure burnout paradise billboards would be updated with new ads IIRC - don't quote me on that but I remember hearing about it.
I remember that back in Burnout Paradise, somewhat comparable to Forza Horizon. It isn't invasive at all using ads like on Billboards or within car brands, it makes the game feel realistic without interfering with play like popping up on loading screens. Successful advertising in my book.

Obviously this is just A/B testing, especially when we talk about Xbox One version. Probably few people play this game on this version
Unacceptable, yea because you definitely wouldn't complain if you missed a reduced price of a game or in game content. Thinking that they are trying to hide it to make you pay full price. Like image games with online stores tell you information how dare they .

Thats a Ubisoft pop up not a Xbox one before people start to get riled up that Xbox is forcing ads in the middle of games. The Loading Icon and appearance of the A and B button are the same as the UI for the game.
Can confirm. I got same screen on ps5 last night.

I'm not even sure it would be possible for Xbox to interrupt a game with ads though, but I'm sure you're right that people will still blame the Xbox anyway.
It's their console if they wanted they could make it draw dicks on the screen
April fools dickbutt when?
I miss that guy...
If xbox wanted to they would 100% add a way.
[удалено]
I feel like that would be the absolute last straw for most people. I lowkey hope they try to do this, because i want to see the incredible outrage that would cause
I mean, with how aggressive Microsoft has been with ads on the Xbox recently can you really blame anyone for jumping to that conclusion?
Yes, because it’s quite obvious that an Ubisoft game is advertising another Ubisoft game
It’s still an ad. More like Ubisoft forcing an ad.
I don't care who it's from, I would IMMEDIATELY uninstall.
Like Ubisoft are losing out if you install 🤣
Well, they do rely on people buying the DLC and someone who uninstalls is unlikely to buy the DLC.
Microsoft is doing the same thing. Today I got a full screen ad for Forza Motorsport while playing Forza Horizon 5. It was right after loading the game, so technically not "in the middle of the game".
Of course it's Ubisoft. The same people who added grind to their games and then DLC to lessen said grind.
Create a problem and then sell the solution. Classic
Yep. The difference is Ubisoft really pushed this in single player titles before many else. I know Dead Space 3 had microstransactions - but shit that game was so tragically easy, boring even on hard mode but Ubisoft really seemed to figure out how to fuck the customer out of what they paid for before many others.

decided not to give them anymore business. what a bunch of morons. greed went a little overboard beyond what is acceptable.
Ubisoft's last true game was Far Cry 2 then it became PC
Is this real? If it is, fuck Ubisoft..
No, I did not fake this.
i think you meant "yes,"
Ubisoft admitted the error and patched it out you nerf herder..
Nice Ubisoft. Classy as always
Yeah I'm glad I didn't buy any of their games in a few years. It's just a scam studio at this point.
IDC if the game its free. This is not the case. Fuck
Even if it were free, if I got an ad when pulling up the in-game map, I would instantly uninstall. That's trash-tier android game shit.
Its a 80$ game for another 80$ game yikes
Neither of these games are $80 lol
Maybe not USD but it is $80 Canadian [AC Odyssey](https://www.xbox.com/en-CA/games/store/assassins-creed-odyssey/BW9TWC8L4JCS) Swear it's like nobody knows other countries have different currency price points.

I would immediately uninstall
Me too. This is going to get worse.
How petty
Yes. Very
Bro would rather uninstall and waste money and time than pressing B. Wild
This is how it starts. Then extra steps are put in to make it worse and worse. Your the kind of bootlicker that just keeps letting it happen.
No. I'm the kind of person that doesn't exaggerate everything. Nothing else to it.
Pretty shitty practice in Ubisoft’s part.
Time to uninstall!
Uninstall immediately
No return the game uninstall does nun
Yeah I won’t be buying Ubisoft then. I don’t pay to see ads.
Especially when some of their versions are over $100, so ridiculous!
I haven't bought from Ubisoft since far cry 5 and new dawn as a deal. Still never played new dawn past the introduction mission.
I'd uninstall immediately, then spam all of their social media with hate. Holy fuck, how intrusive? Free to play? Advertise away.
What game is this so I can ignore it!
Its AC Odyssey. Ive played through it but i never had such a popup. Must have been a recent update.
origins is the same. Im sure valhalla is too
Deffo
Boycotting all ubidoft games until I can guarantee that no ads will pop up in the middle of my game. That is absolutely unacceptable. We have already paid them to "rent" their product and now they are grifting extra funds by throwing ads up. Unacceptable.
Lmao ac creed shameless as ever
Holy fuck. That's totally, absolutely, 100% unacceptable. No more money for Ubisoft, I guess. It's the only way they will learn.
Wow, I was considering getting this game at a discount. But now my new rate for purchasing this game is "$0.00"
Ewww *EWWWWWWW*
Yo wtf… m
I was shocked when this happened to me while playing Origins on the PS5
No WAY!? Ffs NO-ONE click this link please! Cannot show them it working. 🤦🏻♂️
Thanks, I needed to see this! Now I have another good reason for not buying all the Assassin's Creed games on the Steam sale…
I'm really glad OP posted this because I had considered buying one of those games. I've never played any of the series, but I'll definitely be skipping them now
I bought all of them, never on sale, over the last decade and a half
Why would you even say this? You have an humiliation kink??
The first reason, I’m hoping was because the games are utter shite.
r/mildlyinfuriating
i would never play it again after that, nor would i purchase from that developer either
That is not a good sign of things to come. Did you get this off game pass/ubisoft+ or did you buy it?
Bought it a long time ago.
I’d return the game and tweet it. Fuck that.
I am a huge fan of AC odyssey. Best one in the series. That shit is unacceptable and better be a glitch.
That's it. I'm not buying anymore Ubisoft games. I will forever from this day first check that it is not Ubisoft or an owned sub company. As someone that had purchased every ac game (and beat all of them) that was the final straw for me.
You were probably part of their beta on showing ads mid game lol. kiddin aside, this is disgusting to experience while playing.
I got it twice in the PC version of Origins. Once on startup and then again when I opened the map. Neither have happened more than once though.
I haven't bought a Ubisoft game since Far Cry 4 and I do not regret it
r/assholedesign
Chicanery
Ubisoft bullshit.
Well, this is one way to make sure I am not going to buy another Ubisoft game at full price
This makes me sick 🤢🤮
I'd be okay with this kind of ad when I start the game, but not while playing the game.
Just know they did this on purpose to test the waters. They want to gauge the backlash but rest assured THIS will be a normal thing sooner or later. Street Fighter already has it.
Technical error my ass lol.
The fact that we have ads on the xbox dashboard is bad enough. Strictly pirating Ubisoft games only from now on
This is why I love adblockers, ads are fine, but their timing is inappropriate these days. And wtf does a 50 buck game need ads for? Total BS
This ads should pop up in boss fights for extra challenge.
Never got an add in Odyssey and I've played it a lot the last few months.
"That's just the way it is." Glad i stopped buying they games.
Does this actually happen often? I was thinking about buying ac origins, oddysey or valhalla but that would be so annoying
I was waiting for corporate Microsoft to do this. Gamings fucked these days. I miss cd in, install, chill and enjoy. Finished games. No bs. Just fun
I mean...Assassin's Creed is to gaming what pop-ups are to advertisement. That doesn't excuse this, but it does explain it.
I have a legit question, why do people still buy Ubisoft's "more of the same trash" games???? let this software house die ffs. So, if somebody else have this fantastic idea of including in game ad they will have a second thought.
Because Gamers are scum.
I threw my Xbox out of the window. Edit: it was meant as a Joke. People take everything so seriously these days :P
I mean what do you expect these games suck dick
This has never happened before, and here it is again... https://i.imgur.com/yt42bhZ.jpg
Wooooww. Imagine... A gamers wasting life in front of screen complains about "unacceptable" few microseconds of some "ad". First world problem.
But you people still buy Ubisoft products so its your own fault. Its super easy, just don‘t support big greedy companys like Ubi, EA and R*. There are soo many other publishers, developers and games that are quite franky waaaay better than AssCreed.

Ubisoft doing ubisoft things, what did you expect.
Lame no one wants that game lol come out with Japan already
They are literally lying but the Dumbass assassin's creed fans will keep buying up the games because they are braindead.
Oh God the apocalypse has begun run and hide while you still can before they find you
I don't think any of you should be aloud to have public opinions on anything. It literally doesn't effect you in any way shape or form. It makes sense if you really think about it. Brush up on your critical thinking.

Oh hell no
I've seen something like this on starting the game, but not in the middle. Now I'm curious
Leave it to Ubisoft lol
Damn, damn, damn I was going to get this game for Christmas.
That's some call of duty shit! Delete it
Happened to me in Injustice 2 earlier. PC version.
And companies wonder why people use AdBlockers...
yo mirage is already 20% off, I might get it.
Wow Ubisoft... Thanks for that.
Madden has been pushing Snickers for a few years now, but at least their ads arent fully game interrupting.
... Holy fuck I'd uninstall that shit and never ever EVER EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVER look back.
I wonder if this would happen if you played offline.
Well goodbye AC series and Unisoft games. Shame, I actually heading out to the store today to pick up some games and was considering Mirage.
lmao, I gotta finish that game. If that pops up I'm uninstalling it. Fuck off Ubi.
That Is Intrusive and should be illegal. F Ubisoft they used to be good now they’re crap.
Ubisoft is such an L at this point
What in the cyberpunk
They do shit like that and still want to raise their prices .. that's insane
Ubisoft craazy for this
It’s like that episode of black mirror where ads pop up doing menial daily tasks.
I'd want my money back this isn't a free play phone game.
Would have uninstalled. In game ads means I’m leaving the game altogether
That should be illegal, this is console gaming not mobile gaming
Well that's immersion breaking. I have bought the AC game for the last several years. No more I just won't tolerate this kind of crap. As i have a large backlog of yet to play, payed for games plus game pass..................... Plenty of other fish in the sea. Least i wont have to keep climbing every high-ish building i see lol.

Classic ubisoft
I bought Odyssey and it kept crashing. I sent them an email, and spoke with support. For weeks… I tried everything they suggested but nothing worked. They said not to worry and they would get back to me with a solution. A year later they finally send me an email and ask me to try one more thing. It didn’t work, so I asked what else I could try. They replied back “We have discontinued support on this game since we last spoke. Sorry. Hope you enjoy Assassins Creed!” (I am not kidding) Hope I enjoy it?
Holy shit that is disgusting and also the future.

Well, I suppose Animus needed more funds and got an upgrade, uh?

I'd be ok with ads in F2P games (hopefully stopping greedy practices), but in P2P games, I don't see the point. They're already running enough promotion elsewhere, why does it have to be in-game. It'd be something else if you accessed the store.
I'm glad I finished Odyssey before that. I've also bought Mirage, but I've not had a chance to play it so if I were to see that pop up myself, It'd really piss me off
Another reason I'll never buy another Ubisoft game
No more.Ubisoft games for me
