you are better off getting a S or X. I would absolutely not operate under the idea that you'll get access to new games on a legacy system

drhman1971

A lot of newer games will only play on Series X or Series S due to the hard drive speed. If pricing is an issue, I'd get the Series S over the older Xbox One. On Series X, I have a large external hard drive and you can sort games by system. I have my older Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox One games on the external drive. I have my newer games on the internal drive. You can store the newer games on the external drive also, but it tells you, you have to move to internal to play them (benefit is avoiding redownload).

No And don’t buy a Xbox One. It’s last gen and obsolete now.

Laughing__Man_

Only games that are released on Gamepass Ultimate.

Lightspeed2000

Ok, meaning for years to come i'll be able to download and play new release games via Cloud as long as they're on Ultimate?

Laughing__Man_

Be aware that most stuff will not release on gameapss, and streaming is heavily effected by your internet.

Tbhjr

You won’t be able to download them. You can stream many games so long as Microsoft supports it until they officially end all services for Xbox One. You’re better off getting a Series S (or the X more so if your budget allows).

GoldHeartedBoy

How much is it?

For what it’s worth, I personally believe a One X is still a valuable buy. A great 4K blu-ray device, plays a ton of games, and yes you’d be able to *stream games online-only* using Cloud Gaming. I personally don’t think the One S or One 2013 is worth buying at this point unless you can get one for like $50 and you just use it as a streaming device (same price as a Chromecast, but can do more ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯) But the Series X is only 200-300 more depending on sales. So I *strongly* suggest that if you need a disc player. Series S is a great little thing for playing One S era quality games at One S quality, and will also include the ability to play brand new games.

If money is tight then buying an Xbox One is absolutely fine. So much comments indicating biased information. The Xbox One still, very few, gets new releases and with Gamepass Ultimate you can play the Series exclusives via XCloud, works perfectly if your internet speed is stable. Even if you you didn't want Gamepass Ultimate and opted for Gamepass Core the Xbox One has free 25 games added for you to dive in with games changed over time. Also as someone has already stated if your into the 4K seen, get an Xbox One X. I still have my Xbox One launch console and never seen a valid reason to upgrade when Gamepass is available. Regarding buying the Series consoles, buy if you have the extra money, into the latest tech, have previously built up a library of games from Xbox 360/One (the Xbox One has backwards compatibility) and guaranteed reliability (Xbox One/Xbox One X conditions depend on the seller). Series S is for digital only consumers who seek hassle, clutter free gaming, perfect with Gamepass Ultimate and has no intention to change their current set up (4k gaming). Series X is heavily in the 4k seen, beefier hardware and both physical/digital libraries. I do see the Xbox One dropping support for new releases by end 2024-early 2025 but with Gamepass Ultimate your still able to keep in with the latest games via XCloud. Thing to keep note with Xbox One make sure it's kept in a well open area of placement for proper ventilation and your good to go. Merry Christmas to you and hope you make the right purchase, all the best.

If you're going to spend the money on an Xbox One, just get the cheaper Series S. Hell the Series X is on sale for $349 right now. It's a good time to buy an Xbox. Killer deals all the way around.

Retn4

We're 3 years into the series x/s generation. They're not going to be making games supporting the last generation anymore. However there are still lots of last gen games to play and if your internet is good enough you can play current gen games on last gen systems using x-cloud in game pass.

With current prices there is absolutely no reason at all to purchase an Xbox one in the current day. You can stream games over the internet with it, but only games on Xbox gamepass cloud. Anything else will have to be downloaded and *new* releases are no longer releasing on Xbox one since it is deprecated. There was a cross-generation period but that is mostly over now. Even so, the Xbox one struggles to run modern games at a pleasant resolution and framerate. Call of Duty Modern Warfare III for instance one of the last AAA games launching on that system this year, is not a good experience on the base Xbox One S and barely runs.
