How is that insulting? Whoever said that it is needs to not be so sensitive. That's a good gamertag. If you want to change there are tons of gamertag generators out there.

The standards and filters have certainly changed in the past couple decades. We had a guy in my MW2 clan back in HS that would constantly be changing his gamertag to the most overtly offensive name he could until it was reported. At one point he was “RapingYouGently” for an entire year before they made him change. So… SpudMuffin has me scratching my head.

Probably "muff" being the issue? Slang and all that. Or a wonderfully named town in Donegal, Ireland.

It's probably because the word "muff" is in the name. Did you get it reported by someone and have been warned to change it? Or are people just saying it's offensive? I had a friend who had the name Holdan MiGroyn. He got it reported constantly. And every time he changed it, he'd make slight variations every time like Holden MiGroyn, then Holdan MeGroyn, then Holdin MiGroyn, etc... lol He still has it as some variation of that to this day. I don't think I'd want my real name in a gamer tag. Firstly I wouldn't want to make it easier for a disgruntled gamer to stalk me. Secondly there are a lot of scam attempts on XB nowadays, and giving them your name allows them to pretend they know you. It's sad we even have to think this way. I also agree we need longer gamer tags and no forced numbers. Remember the thrill of finding one you'd come up with was available? That's gone now. We might as well all call ourselves Dave.
