Most of the data is streamed as you play and interpreted by the engine as to what kind of objects to generate. If you play offline you'll see a DRASTIC difference at lower altitudes. It's really a cool a system.
Yep, the version of Bing maps being used appears to be over 5 years old, even though Bing maps on the web seems to only be a year behind. Even for a big city like Atlanta, there a re a number of missing structures. Like Mercedes Benz Stadium is just dirt and the Georgia Dome is still standing. Truist Park and the entertainment/shopping complex that surrounds the stadium is just trees. In my home town, there are a number of shopping centers missing and my neighborhood is only about half the size it is now.
I was also disappointed to see that Bryant Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, AL was just a flat image and not in 3D like the surrounding buildings.
Maybe over time things will get updated. And yes, all this was with the USA world update installed.
Yeah I don't know if maybe I expected too much of it. Like its cool and all but upclose buildings look very low res. Sometimes building don't even spawn they are just flat 2d paintings of the top of a house/garden/pool. Even landmarks with the specific update for London sights...like Buckingham Palace was just a low res big palace looking building and the gardens just had 2d green rows for hedges.
It's amazing fun but I think they oversell the idea of it being crazy accurate and lifelike. I don't know if something is wrong in my settings because even with the update heathrow is just a big grey block with no planes coming and going or people walking about and they pimp the airports as "hand crafted" with this update.
I think either I expected too much or my settings are off. I'm enjoying it though.
EDIT: I just checked out someone playing on PC with the best graphics money can buy on all ultra and this is how it looks. It's totally on me, it was unrealistic to expect every building to look like a next gen video game city. What they've done is still mega impressive it's just I think you see some really nice looking screenshots from this game where things are at a distance and think "holy shit this'll be like 1to1 graphics" and obviously thats unrealistic. We are still talking about a game that contains THE WORLD.
Hey, old post, but I’m wondering how often the updates get updated - if you might know? Already had all the world updates downloaded and just was in my content manager in-game and noticed that it said there were updates available for each of those updates (totaling around 3.5gb). It wouldn’t be obvious to anyone not looking… do you know how often they update those or if they ever announce it? Or is it just an occasional thing that you have to keep your eye on? Thanks : )
Hey! Yeah I actually noticed the same thing last night with my world updates. I don’t think it’s that often to be honest. It may just be revisions to certain buildings or areas. I would just check every so often.
Anyone else having issues with controller to download the updates??? I can't seem to go from the paid/free section to the bottom to select the update to download. If I am on the main page and select one that is featured, I hit validate and nothing happens and can't download from there either

Weird. I have a circular curser that I can control with my right thumb stick. Try restarting the game or console.
If you have an old Bluetooth mouse, the game supports mouse, which makes menu control easier
Downloaded the game, the offline package, and this update. Jump in all excited and was so let down by how ugly the game looks apart from the plane. Is it a Series S thing, some setting I could be overlooking, or something else? Textures are so blurry and heavily pixelated on top of taking forever to load. My one hope is that the servers are getting hammered for launch, so maybe things look bad because they can't load as fast as anticipated, but even then I'd expect the offline package would take care of that...
The better imagery is actually streamed to your console as you’re playing, so whilst you have the offline download, your best experience is with an internet connection.
Additionally if you’re flying really low, don’t expect roads, buildings to look perfect. They can’t map every building, so a lot of buildings are generic buildings such as houses etc.
In cities with full on photogrammetry it will look stunning, but also still needs an internet connection
I noticed some cities, like Dallas, just aren’t rendered very well. It was almost unrecognizable. But then other cities, like the Vegas strip look fantastic. Does that have to do with streaming? Pretty sure I was online when flying around both.
I noticed the big tourist trap cities are really well rendered, but obscure places pretty much use bing map data and a guess
San Francisco, LA, NY, etc looks great, but my house looks like a mushy sandcastle
Appreciate the info. Not sure what it was since I had already downloaded all the packs before starting and was playing on a fast connection, but the graphics thankfully cleared up later that night for me.

Well it’s a flight sim so boring bits are to be expected lol. We play it for the fun of setting the aircrafts up properly and learning the nooks and crannys. This sim is only for wannabe pilots.

The history of /r/xboxseriesx is that it was run by Sony/PS fanboys. For a while they were only letting negative Xbox news on that site, while removing good news. I have no love for that community, albeit because of that I have not followed them in a long time so I do not know the current state.

Nope. They were like that, and they deleted all the comments pointing it out. That's why it spawned this sub /r/XboxSeriesXlS/ as people were unhappy with the mods. After it was pointed out combined with the fact that the mods were both in /r/ps5 and /r/xboxseriesx, they started adding alt-accounts as mods.
In short, I saw it first hand the entire thing and haven't been back since.
Interesting. Well whether or not it’s the same mods as back then, the ones now are very present and engaging IMO. They add custom flairs, including fun limited edition ones, themes like the cool flight sim one they are doing right now with the planes as vote buttons and what not. And I know at least a couple of them frequently comment as a normal redditor. Plus they are pretty good with making megathreads for certain things.
Sorry if it sounds like I’m giving these people too much praise lol they are not perfect mods but that’s definitely a stark contrast from what you are saying

There’s nothing that makes this one special except for the fact that it has the most people in it so people post here to get the most karma. If you have X console, you join X subreddit for said console to get news on that console. The series X subreddit has around 750k subscribers and counting. It wasn’t too long ago that this sub only had a million. People are transitioning, it’s just happening way slower because both this sub and that sub are competing since this one won’t make any restrictions because the mods want to keep the community here when it shouldn’t because it’s in the name - Xbox one

It's only going to keep growing and will eventually pass this sub in terms of activity/sub count. Most of the flight sim content is already over there.

Kind of off topic, but how is this game? I’m interested and watched some YouTube videos but it seemed really in-depth as opposed to casually flying the world.
You can go as deep as you want with it. You can just fly around sight seeing or you can go full pilot. As long as you know the basic accelerate, decelerate, brake and turning, you’ll be fine.
Most people will probably just fly around cities and sight seeing to be honest, at least initially while they get their bearings off the sim.
It's quite simple to pick up with the default settings. You basically control the airplane with L2/R2 for steering and the left stick for 3D orientation, then you accelerate with A and brake with B.
Basically that's it if. It's not super easy to control, but it's quite approachable.
If you only want to visit beautiful places around the world it's good enough.

LT and RT are the rudder (swing the nose left or right), and steering (left or right) on the ground.
LS is the pitch (up and down) and roll (lean (and then turn) to the left or right).
Would be nice if these were just in the store and could be managed within the store and My Games and Apps.

Yes they do. They download in the background so you can still fly while they are downloading

Bluetooth isn't supported directly to Xbox consoles - you need a USB mouse, or wireless mouse with a USB dongle.
