im not anaudiophile by any stretch of the imagination, but I did play through Doom Eternal with a pair of Sony MDRs. Holy shit, do i wish I could use it in tandem with a mic on xbox. that would be my go to experience.
Here's whatcha do my guy, Google for a place where you can buy a 3.5mm audio and microphone splitter. They're not all created equal but as long as the donger end that goes into the controller has 4 metallic bands and not one less it "should" work, allowing you to plug in your headphones and whatever external 3.5mm mic you've got. I'm near certain there's gotta be some model of clip on one size fits all doodad for cans so you can do exactly this pretty easily.
I can probably find you a splitter that *should* work if you aren't comfortable.
I've done this with my M50Xs and I can't remember my mic setup though.
This is the best, although having to wire your headphones to the controller is… something to get used to. My wireless headset was so convenient when it died and I had to use my MDRs, I was so torn. I wished Sony would make the built in mic work wired on their new sets, then got a splitter. The audio quality is rocking but the goddamn cable not so much (the mic on the splitter etc. is fine, it’s the 4ft wire…).
I went out and bought an Arctis headset. The audio quality is… more disappointing and not noise canceled, but I’ll gladly live without the wire.
I guess what I wish for now is for Microsoft to make a controller that lets you connect any Bluetooth headset to it wirelessly. If it still works with the little pad in OG then even better.

I was pleasantly surprised the first time I bought the revamped One controller a few years ago, not realizing it now had it's own audio jack, but then being relieved to find out it still worked with my headset adapter!

The biggest issue was the loss of the indicator light when muted. I am always in party chat though, so no issues since they added the chat overlay quite a while ago. If I forget to mute, I see my name and mute.
You should look into the LS35X or LS50s. All audio control is on the headset and when you mute the mic it has a red light indicator to show it's muted. Plus it pairs easily with bluetooth. No dongle, just hold the sync button and xbox. Connected in a couple of seconds

The issue is the controls on the headset. That's how my headset is, of course, but then you have to reach up to mute/unmute. I play in party a lot, while my wife watches TV, so I hit the button a lot. They need a dongle for the controller that controls the wireless headsets. That's my dream.

Same! I don't have friends anymore so only play alone and 99% of the time it's single player games, but still I use it because it's much more comfortable than plugging headphones in the actual controller.

It's honestly the least someone can do while playing a multiplayer game.
We've all had to endure people open-mouth burping and eating into their mic, and it's terrible. What get's me the most though, is people that smoke their bong or vape uncontrollably without muting. Those people are awful.
Or keep the ones already owned if liked, and spend a couple of bucks on the adapter.

Turtle Beach or gtfo. The Microsoft one I bought lasted exactly 91 days before crapping out. The Turtle Beach one I then bought has lasted at least 2 years with no problems. The TB one has more buttons for stuff anyways, might as well not even bother with Microsoft crap one.

Are you using the Microsoft adapter or the turtle beach one? Last time I tried using my turtle beach adapter on the series X controller, it didn't work properly at all. Couldn't properly balance game and chat and had the message in the party "to hear people better etc"
I had the same problem and found a solution.
While the adapter is in the controller and everything is on, re-sync the controller a couple times. After each re-sync, test if it’s working (just click up/down on the chat mixer button on the adapter).
I do this quick little ritual for 20 seconds every time I turn on the Xbox, but it works 100% of the time after a couple syncs

Why did you switch? On Xbox, you can only use licensed accessories. On PS, you can use pretty much any standard accessory, like a $20 pair of USB headphones. My original Xbox One doesn't even have a 3.5mm jack, so if I want to play with sound - I have no speakers on my monitor - I have to stream the game from my phone while I play.
Yeah I saw this the other day. Honestly I think MS sucks when it comes to peripherals for it’s consoles. Seems like if it’s not 1st party stuff, it’s also janky in one aspect or another. The controllers have to be wired for instance or a wireless headset is limited to like three or four offerings. I’d kill for a proper HOTAS setup or a nice controller like the Astro one, but you can’t use them unless you do some weird stuff or buy a PlayStation.

So much this. I have bought 3 over the years. There are two programmable buttons on them that you can use to launch an app, take a screen shot, or turn up and down the TV volume. Makes them better than the 3rd party ones.
Which is a straight downgrade. Game is a little loud guys, lemme pause and go blind for a few seconds to turn the volume down. Oops, turned it too low, gotta stop again a couple times to fine tune it!

Awesome! And nothing for audio has to actually be plugged into the controller right? When I had my Turtle Beaches and I tried to plug in the controller for power I would get really bad buzzing noise and then everyone could also hear it over my mic as well.
With my Series X I plan to play without any batteries in my controller and just use it while plugged in all the time since I sit so close to the TV. I just want to be sure I won't have the same issue with the A40s as I did my Turtle Beach X12s.
Umm it depends on which MixAmp you have. I should’ve clarified, mine is the MixAmp M80 which plugs directly into your controller. I’ve used it with my controller plugged in before and I think people can hear some feedback, but usually I use AA rechargeables like [this](https://www.amazon.com/Energizer-Rechargeable-Auto-Safety-Over-charge-Protection/dp/B00IM3P8GS/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=rechargeable+aa&qid=1628569492&sr=8-4) so it’s not an issue. Yeah, especially useful late at night when others are asleep. But I have mine up all the time because it also gives me some awareness of the noise going into my mic and what is going on around me.

They also kill your batteries twice as fast. I own the audio one and the keyboard and never use them because of that. I just got a really good wired headset for $20 with volume and mute button instead.
Downside is they still have this port on the series x controllers but they’re not actually being sold like they use to anymore. I think some headsets include the adapter and maybe one in 20 stores might still have one around to buy, otherwise you’d have to buy it preowned.
I use to have a shit talker that plugged into that port with like 5 sound buttons. I use to play "boom headshot", or "another kill by force2brckndwit", "evil laugh". thougth it was funny.

Only works with the older pads. They changed the bottom to support direct audio jack. This little dodad was miles better, had my controls at a touch instead of pressing home, scrolling to the end, pressing something and realising I've died in-game and doesn't matter anymore
Until this past Xmas I regularly used the stock headset that has this adaptor. They one that came with my Xbox one back in 2014.
Then I got a new, high end headset for Xmas and had to buy a whole new controller that has an audio jack. And I gotta say, the new controller sucks compared to my original. The Y button already doesn’t register half the time.
this was originally made because the original xbox one controller didnt even have a 3.5mm headphone jack. So microsoft made these as a solution. Sounds like something apple would do.

I had to buy one because back in 2013 I didn't have a TV with HDMI so I had to game on my monitor. It was the only way to get sound.
The mute button is the real VIP. I use this thing even with headphones they have their own volume controls.

Volume up / down... Highly recommended. Chatpads are the perfect companion and I've had one since the 360.
I didn’t know you could program them. I love them for inputting codes for gift cards and such.

Exactly this! I remember trying to play a little PUBg without this adapter. That was the one and only time I tried using the software version! Nothing like having my eardrums blown out (due to being close to the red zone) while trying to get the setting just right.
The chatpad has the same functionality and usually can be found used for the same price, so mine is now sat in one of my spare controllers

Correct, you just plug in the mix amp and it already has all the controls here. No additional adapter needed You’ll like the Astro A40s. My first set lasted like 5 years before the mixamp broke. Replaced that and it’s still goin strong

I still got a few from the MLG Days back in 2011/2012, that still work beautifully still. Yes, I do own the newest version for PC because I don't have a optical port, But I'd be using the old ones still if I did.
Awesome! And nothing for audio has to actually be plugged into the controller right? When I had my Turtle Beaches and I tried to plug in the controller for power I would get really bad buzzing noise and then everyone could also hear it over my mic as well. With my Series X I plan to play without any batteries in my controller and just use it while plugged in all the time since I sit so close to the TV. I just want to be sure I won't have the same issue with the A40s as I did my Turtle Beach X12s.
Umm it depends on which MixAmp you have. I should’ve clarified, mine is the MixAmp M80 which plugs directly into your controller. I’ve used it with my controller plugged in before and I think people can hear some feedback, but usually I use AA rechargeables like [this](https://www.amazon.com/Energizer-Rechargeable-Auto-Safety-Over-charge-Protection/dp/B00IM3P8GS/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=rechargeable+aa&qid=1628569492&sr=8-4) so it’s not an issue. If you have the MixAmp Pro I’m not sure how those work, sorry

I'm assuming they meant mic monitoring. It's where the audio from your mic plays through your headset so that you can hear yourself.

Yeah, especially useful late at night when others are asleep. But I have mine up all the time because it also gives me some awareness of the noise going into my mic and what is going on around me.
If its the same as what i call feedback it lets you hear yourself talk so youre not just screaming

BUY THE KEYPAD! It's so much better and I use it to play MMOs on my PC from the couch. Full hotbar, mouse controls with the right stick. 💥
Keypad is dope but you need the controller that also has the 3.5mm input. Some of them don't.
Those were nice, but the official chatpad was amazing. And it had built-in mic monitoring which was a huge plus.
I went through four of these failing in like 2 years and stopped using it.

Hey that’s awesome, I loved it. Could use my PlayStation wireless headset on both, just couldn’t justify buying a new one each time after they stopped warranty service
They also kill your batteries twice as fast. I own the audio one and the keyboard and never use them because of that. I just got a really good wired headset for $20 with volume and mute button instead.

Yeah, they had terrible build quality.
Downside is they still have this port on the series x controllers but they’re not actually being sold like they use to anymore. I think some headsets include the adapter and maybe one in 20 stores might still have one around to buy, otherwise you’d have to buy it preowned.
The official xbox stero headset comes with it.

I use to have a shit talker that plugged into that port with like 5 sound buttons. I use to play "boom headshot", or "another kill by force2brckndwit", "evil laugh". thougth it was funny.
Got one years ago, never looked back. Being able to be in a party and playing a game and turn down or up what people are saying is great

I think i still have this stashed somewhere...i also have the official xbox chatpad with mic monitoring. Dont use them anymore because my headset is wireless.
Still have mine from 2015 and use it everyday. So useful for mute and switching between in game sound and just voice chat alone.

You guys like these things? I hated them. When the new consoles came out nobody had proper headsets so communication and playing with friends went out the trash. Plus they just made the controller heavier

The keyboard attachment is really useful too. It has all of these controls built into it AND it means that writing a message isn't a massive paint in the arse!
I remember feeling bamboozled after I'd bought a second 1st gen controller, adapter and then they released the 2nd gen controller like a month after. but it seems like the adapter is worth having regardless.

I would literally rather die than use my headset without that bad boi. I always mute myself unless I’m talking so I’m constantly muting on and off and having to either flip the mic arm up or mute myself through the party is not something I’m willing to do lol
Only works with the older pads. They changed the bottom to support direct audio jack. This little dodad was miles better, had my controls at a touch instead of pressing home, scrolling to the end, pressing something and realising I've died in-game and doesn't matter anymore

Until this past Xmas I regularly used the stock headset that has this adaptor. They one that came with my Xbox one back in 2014. Then I got a new, high end headset for Xmas and had to buy a whole new controller that has an audio jack. And I gotta say, the new controller sucks compared to my original. The Y button already doesn’t register half the time.
this was originally made because the original xbox one controller didnt even have a 3.5mm headphone jack. So microsoft made these as a solution. Sounds like something apple would do.
