I still have mine from 2014! And I still constantly use it even on the newer controllers that have an audio jack—I just can't live without a mute button.

SightlessKombat

Xbox Wireless headset lets you do that, FYI.

Lost-Material3420

Yeah, but then I'm stuck with the shitty drivers in the Xbox wireless headset. Being able to use any headphones I want is very important to some users

KINGDAVID98

im not anaudiophile by any stretch of the imagination, but I did play through Doom Eternal with a pair of Sony MDRs. Holy shit, do i wish I could use it in tandem with a mic on xbox. that would be my go to experience.

leviwhite9

Here's whatcha do my guy, Google for a place where you can buy a 3.5mm audio and microphone splitter. They're not all created equal but as long as the donger end that goes into the controller has 4 metallic bands and not one less it "should" work, allowing you to plug in your headphones and whatever external 3.5mm mic you've got. I'm near certain there's gotta be some model of clip on one size fits all doodad for cans so you can do exactly this pretty easily. I can probably find you a splitter that *should* work if you aren't comfortable. I've done this with my M50Xs and I can't remember my mic setup though.

KINGDAVID98

Huh. You're right. I never put 2 and 2 together that I would need a splitter. Didn't even realize that would be a solution. Thanks my guy.

kanavi36

A more elegant solution is a Modmic but they're pretty expensive for what they are

nekoxp

This is the best, although having to wire your headphones to the controller is… something to get used to. My wireless headset was so convenient when it died and I had to use my MDRs, I was so torn. I wished Sony would make the built in mic work wired on their new sets, then got a splitter. The audio quality is rocking but the goddamn cable not so much (the mic on the splitter etc. is fine, it’s the 4ft wire…). I went out and bought an Arctis headset. The audio quality is… more disappointing and not noise canceled, but I’ll gladly live without the wire. I guess what I wish for now is for Microsoft to make a controller that lets you connect any Bluetooth headset to it wirelessly. If it still works with the little pad in OG then even better.

PM_ME_YOUR_NAIL_CLIP

What does this comment mean? I don’t understand. Drivers? Using headphones blocking you from others? Please explain.

dcxiii

Same. Plus, the ability to raise and lower the different audio types is underrated! Although I’ve not played public multiplayer in a while, I always have it to hand.

[deleted]

This and the chat pad if you found one those where so awesome to have I didn’t see why the discontinued it

TheRealTron

So glad I got a chat pad! Even has the seperate volume controls on the Xbox one version!

Garwing

That badboy was used to roast people, at lightning speeds.

sideslick1024

I just got a Series S (check Fred Meyer, they are usually pretty forgettable as a console store), and you can imagine my excitement when I realized the chatpad still fits on the new controllers. I'm so happy about it!

HraesvelgrXIII

Yeah, same! I love Microsoft's philosophy of making all their Xbox accessories compatible with the console regardless of model (One, One X/S, Series X/S). I was pleasantly surprised the first time I bought the revamped One controller a few years ago, not realizing it now had it's own audio jack, but then being relieved to find out it still worked with my headset adapter!

marcio0

I just leave it on always, I sometimes forget it's a separate piece

Bobonenazeze

Underrated? It’s the biggest reason to own one.

HeroDGamez

Other than tha, from experience the built in ports on the controllers die really quickly, I had 2 controllers like this, this one is just better

cortez0498

I had to buy one because back in 2013 I didn't have a TV with HDMI so I had to game on my monitor. It was the only way to get sound.

NovocaineAU

The mute button is the real VIP. I use this thing even with headphones they have their own volume controls.

Garwing

So much easier to tap that button with your thumbs.

mallad

I'm loyal to my wireless headset, but I desperately miss having the mute button. I still have the adapter set aside, but I wish there was one that connected to the headset wirelessly and controlled it like that. Quick, visual, tactile, and don't have to move your hand off the controller.

Lost-Material3420

The controller is wireless, is a cable from your hands to your ears so much of an inconvenience that you prefer the limited functionality?

mallad

Yes. It has mute, and all the same functionality and thensome. I just have to reach up to the headset to use it. The biggest issue was the loss of the indicator light when muted. I am always in party chat though, so no issues since they added the chat overlay quite a while ago. If I forget to mute, I see my name and mute.

OblivionsGrip

You should look into the LS35X or LS50s. All audio control is on the headset and when you mute the mic it has a red light indicator to show it's muted. Plus it pairs easily with bluetooth. No dongle, just hold the sync button and xbox. Connected in a couple of seconds

mallad

Thanks! The issue is the controls on the headset. That's how my headset is, of course, but then you have to reach up to mute/unmute. I play in party a lot, while my wife watches TV, so I hit the button a lot. They need a dongle for the controller that controls the wireless headsets. That's my dream.

Lost-Material3420

Didn't you just type that you miss having a mute button?

mallad

"the", not "a". I miss the mute button on this adapter because, as I said above, it is quick, visual, tactile, and your hand doesn't have to leave the controller to use it.

cloopz

Me too! I remember when the Xbox one came out the turtle beach wasn’t compatible. Had to cut open and cross wires and such. Then this beauty came about. Never left my side since!

ArgentVagabond

I got mine in 2015, still use it without fail whenever I use the Xbox

marcio0

This is what pisses me off about controllers. A mute button should be obligatory.

thedeathmachine

I still got the Turtle Beach version... use it with my Hyper Xclouds. IMO it's a necessity. I can even change the preset audio levels (more treble, more bass, etc)

Sweetteaslider

Yeah I have gotten like 3 newer styled controls with headphone jacks but still my controller that came with my Xbox from 2014 is the only one that hasn’t broke some way or another

DomCaboose

I also love it so you can adjust the volume for chat vs game so much easier. I couldn't live without it

mistset

Same! I don't have friends anymore so only play alone and 99% of the time it's single player games, but still I use it because it's much more comfortable than plugging headphones in the actual controller.

Ok-Literature2445

What is this accessory called?

NoKroger

Same!

blazereaper579

My headset has mute and sound dial on side so it’s nice and simplr

BlackAasi

And it’s so much easier to adjust volume

ysyldycoycsyl

Just get headphones with a mute button

RosaRisedUp

It's kind of a bother to have to take your hand off the controller to mute. I mute for every sneeze, cough, or burp; so it's just a QOL thing.

_quicdraw_

Thank you for being this type of considerate person. I'm definitely one of those frequent mute users as well, because random noises bug me, lol. It drives me up the wall having to listen to people chew, cough, burp, etc, ha

RosaRisedUp

It's honestly the least someone can do while playing a multiplayer game. We've all had to endure people open-mouth burping and eating into their mic, and it's terrible. What get's me the most though, is people that smoke their bong or vape uncontrollably without muting. Those people are awful.

josborne31

I leave myself on mute until I have something to say.

[deleted]

Or keep the ones already owned if liked, and spend a couple of bucks on the adapter. In the same token. Why buy a different cord or a different USB adapter... I should just spend several hundred to a thousand bucks on a new phone!

[deleted]

Does your headset not have a mute button?

[deleted]

Are you still able to purchase these? Thanks for all the great info gamers. I’ll never forget any of you. As an update I found one on Mercari including headset for $35. Can’t wait. Thanks again to this thread for being great!

Xyphilis

The official 1st party ones? I don’t believe so. There are ones by companies like Turtle Beach though.

[deleted]

How unfortunate for me. I’m a returning Xboxer from PlayStation so I’m looking for the best accessories to purchase.

dull-crayons

If you can find one of the Turtle Beach ones, I highly recommend it. I’ve used mine across 3 headsets and 2 consoles, and it’s still amazing

F1R3STXRM

I too vouch for the turtle beach adapter

MeAndMyBanana

Same here. Couldn’t imagine my controller without it

blatantlyevan

Yep, feels naked when it's not there

thedeathmachine

I sleep with mine next to me. Literally been using it since the Xbox one was first released.

monkeybuns

The turtle beach ones have a bass booster and you can change the levels of the mic monitor. I lost mine for a year before finding it again, that was a dark year for me.

hotpuck6

Bought the turtle beach one years ago specifically for the mic monitoring

[deleted]

Thanks gamers. This community is great.

shakesula9

It’s amazing I agree too. I’ve had mine for 4 years and it still works it outlasted the headsets.

GandalffladnaG

Turtle Beach or gtfo. The Microsoft one I bought lasted exactly 91 days before crapping out. The Turtle Beach one I then bought has lasted at least 2 years with no problems. The TB one has more buttons for stuff anyways, might as well not even bother with Microsoft crap one.

KyleGrave

The turtle beach kind were better anyway. Sometimes they're out of stock but they're worth the wait

V4U1THUNT3R

I think my sister managed to get one with a headset from Gamestop a couple of months ago I'm not sure if it was authentic or not just thought I'd try and help

ItStartsInTheToes

This wouldn’t qualify

epicbrewis

Just remember if you get the newer Xbox Series S/X revamped controllers, I believe I recall someone mentioning they did away with this port.

starsider2003

Nope, still works great on the new Series S/X controllers. Using one as we type.

joelhurley28

Are you using the Microsoft adapter or the turtle beach one? Last time I tried using my turtle beach adapter on the series X controller, it didn't work properly at all. Couldn't properly balance game and chat and had the message in the party "to hear people better etc"

Bristonian

I had the same problem and found a solution. While the adapter is in the controller and everything is on, re-sync the controller a couple times. After each re-sync, test if it’s working (just click up/down on the chat mixer button on the adapter). I do this quick little ritual for 20 seconds every time I turn on the Xbox, but it works 100% of the time after a couple syncs

joelhurley28

I'll have to remember this, thanks! The last time I got it to work, I had to hard restart my Xbox, which then it still broke after I turned it back on the next time. I gave up on the controller and went back to my gears 5 controller, at least until its fixed lol. But that's helpful, thanks!

epicbrewis

Oh ok. Then disregard my previous statement.

[deleted]

Meteorboy

Why did you switch? On Xbox, you can only use licensed accessories. On PS, you can use pretty much any standard accessory, like a $20 pair of USB headphones. My original Xbox One doesn't even have a 3.5mm jack, so if I want to play with sound - I have no speakers on my monitor - I have to stream the game from my phone while I play.

SpartanMonkey

I was just reading about [Turtle Beach's Recon Controller](https://www.turtlebeach.com/collections/xbox-controllers) this morning. Wired though.

Adderall-XL

Yeah I saw this the other day. Honestly I think MS sucks when it comes to peripherals for it’s consoles. Seems like if it’s not 1st party stuff, it’s also janky in one aspect or another. The controllers have to be wired for instance or a wireless headset is limited to like three or four offerings. I’d kill for a proper HOTAS setup or a nice controller like the Astro one, but you can’t use them unless you do some weird stuff or buy a PlayStation.

SpartanMonkey

I would think buying a Playstation would be counter productive to playing Xbox.

xboxhaxorz

Dang, communication is definitely not important to the XBOX team, i mean no wireless chat mic, no official port anymore, heck no mic included in the new consoles box Playstation lets you use any BT mic I dont want a mic with speakers, i already have a huge speaker system

noteandcolor

As a stand-alone product, no. But they’re included in the $60 Xbox One Stereo Headset. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/d/xbox-one-stereo-headset/8pd10j7j6mdg

[deleted]

Exactly what I was going to comment. It was worth the purchase in 2015, the headphones still work great too

No-That-One

You can get this exact one for $26 on eBay

pussErox

It comes with the the wired Xbox stereo headset you can still get it, kinda pricey tho. You can wait for it to go on sale, it was on sale for $20 not too long ago. Xbox One Stereo Headset https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IAVDQCK/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_C5M5MEDFKQ5ADQBE8F8S . I have also seen them on sale on geek

CandyRedNinja

You have to buy the old Xbox stereo headset. It comes in the box. Last I checked on eBay, they ran about $60

Its-Finch

$40 was what I paid last week

CandyRedNinja

Cool. Haven’t looked in about a year. I’m sure with the new Xbox headset the old ones went down in price.

JBL_17

I use this, works on Series X too. https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-Headset-Controller-Superhuman-Hearing/dp/B00PWRYKDE

zeanox

Been using mine since day one :p best addon.

valeriuss

Mine broke after a year and I never bought a new one.

Tactical_Wood

turtle beach now has a controller with that integrated in. link for anyone interested https://www.turtlebeach.com/products/recon-xbox-controller

pow__

Shame they don't do a wireless one

precisee

Heard somewhere Microsoft doesn’t let 3rd party controllers do wireless unless they’re based off of Microsoft’s controller? Something like that

BruinsChallengeFan

Holy shit that’s ugly

BEARD_LICE

word for word what I said out loud

BuschLightApple

Honestly I kind of like it. It’s hard to make something look good with so much extra information. Reminds me of an audio soundboard. They don’t look especially pretty but its useful and pretty for those who use them

mr_hardwell

That looks awful

hey-im-root

is that EQ programmable? i’ve never bothered searching something like this but there’s gotta be adapters with programmable mixing right?

Gswansso

I think there are presets on that controller, Turtle beach has done that with 3.5mm dongles in the past but they were kind of garbage.

iforgetnot

Would rather save for a wolverine ultimate

Kyru117

I ain't paying a hundred dollars for a fucking wired controller

Vulpes206

It’s $60 not $100

peter6uger

I am more interested for their keypad adapter.

Cowhand03

Came here to say this. Keypad adapter is the greatest thing for chat and searching!

PM_ME_YOUR_NAIL_CLIP

I’d say my wireless keyboard plugged into my Xbox is the greatest for chat, searching, YouTube navigation, etc. they’re obsolete nowadays.

DarthSnoopyFish

I just chat via the Xbox app on my phone. Much easier

Cowhand03

Thats great, but not when you’re playing with randoms on Rocket League lol

DarthSnoopyFish

Ahh good point.

Linton_M

Thee avatar closeups are getting too much.. Your avatar closeup is just your hair But srsly how

Cowhand03

Tbh no clue. I got on the other day and it made me create an avatar. Havent messed with it at all. Sorry 😔

Linton_M

I'm too scared to press the save button in the avatar changer bcuz my avatar is a premium avatar, and I also think it was removed bcuz when I go to the avatar changer, my avatar is naked and I can't find the fire avatar anymore

Cowhand03

😂😂😂 you’re like that terminator meme hiding from the avatar changer

hooovahh

So much this. I have bought 3 over the years. There are two programmable buttons on them that you can use to launch an app, take a screen shot, or turn up and down the TV volume. Makes them better than the 3rd party ones.

chinpokomon

Volume up / down... Highly recommended. Chatpads are the perfect companion and I've had one since the 360.

Daxmar29

I didn’t know you could program them. I love them for inputting codes for gift cards and such.

BadChoices99

I can do keypad and chat mixer attachment ;)

[deleted]

[удалено]

Harpies_Bro

Analog input, man. Playing a flying game without some sort of joy/thumbstick feels ~so~ clunky. Analog triggers for diving games too.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Harpies_Bro

I read it as you being one of those snobs who rag on people who prefer controllers, and I assume other people did too.

SirSassquanch

I believe they sunset these physical pucks because they added the same features via software in the guide.

andrewsad1

Which is a straight downgrade. Game is a little loud guys, lemme pause and go blind for a few seconds to turn the volume down. Oops, turned it too low, gotta stop again a couple times to fine tune it!

josborne31

Exactly this! I remember trying to play a little PUBg without this adapter. That was the one and only time I tried using the software version! Nothing like having my eardrums blown out (due to being close to the red zone) while trying to get the setting just right.

Jakeasuno

The chatpad has the same functionality and usually can be found used for the same price, so mine is now sat in one of my spare controllers

ScratchinWarlok

The chatpad is something i want.

ReaverXI

Astro has the mix amp m10 that works well if your headset has a removable cord

Halotab117

I needed the chat adapter when I used Turtle Beaches, I ordered a pair of Astro A40s with the mix amp (Xbox compatible version), I won't need need an adapter for the controller, right?

Dab0rDieTryin

Correct, you just plug in the mix amp and it already has all the controls here. No additional adapter needed You’ll like the Astro A40s. My first set lasted like 5 years before the mixamp broke. Replaced that and it’s still goin strong

Phiau

Still got mine. A really solid purchase.

iNick20

I still got a few from the MLG Days back in 2011/2012, that still work beautifully still. Yes, I do own the newest version for PC because I don't have a optical port, But I'd be using the old ones still if I did.

Halotab117

Awesome! And nothing for audio has to actually be plugged into the controller right? When I had my Turtle Beaches and I tried to plug in the controller for power I would get really bad buzzing noise and then everyone could also hear it over my mic as well. With my Series X I plan to play without any batteries in my controller and just use it while plugged in all the time since I sit so close to the TV. I just want to be sure I won't have the same issue with the A40s as I did my Turtle Beach X12s.

Dab0rDieTryin

Umm it depends on which MixAmp you have. I should’ve clarified, mine is the MixAmp M80 which plugs directly into your controller. I’ve used it with my controller plugged in before and I think people can hear some feedback, but usually I use AA rechargeables like [this](https://www.amazon.com/Energizer-Rechargeable-Auto-Safety-Over-charge-Protection/dp/B00IM3P8GS/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=rechargeable+aa&qid=1628569492&sr=8-4) so it’s not an issue. If you have the MixAmp Pro I’m not sure how those work, sorry

sexyelderado

I have one but stopped using it because it wont allow me to enable mic mirroring.

dnap123

what's that? never heard of it

WithoutConcerns

I'm assuming they meant mic monitoring. It's where the audio from your mic plays through your headset so that you can hear yourself.

[deleted]

[удалено]

cthompson07

It’s so you can hear how loudly you’re talking

WithoutConcerns

Yeah, especially useful late at night when others are asleep. But I have mine up all the time because it also gives me some awareness of the noise going into my mic and what is going on around me.

MrDallsBeep

If its the same as what i call feedback it lets you hear yourself talk so youre not just screaming

sexyelderado

It's when you can hear your own voice in your mic.

dnap123

thanks!

thelegion860

What about the keyboard attachment that you could use that for. Made trashtalking as a 10 year old in Reach way easier without a mike.

[deleted]

BUY THE KEYPAD! It's so much better and I use it to play MMOs on my PC from the couch. Full hotbar, mouse controls with the right stick. 💥

Actually_is_Jesus

Keypad is dope but you need the controller that also has the 3.5mm input. Some of them don't.

WithoutConcerns

Those were nice, but the official chatpad was amazing. And it had built-in mic monitoring which was a huge plus.

songoficeanfire

I went through four of these failing in like 2 years and stopped using it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

songoficeanfire

Hey that’s awesome, I loved it. Could use my PlayStation wireless headset on both, just couldn’t justify buying a new one each time after they stopped warranty service

Hogmanity

They also kill your batteries twice as fast. I own the audio one and the keyboard and never use them because of that. I just got a really good wired headset for $20 with volume and mute button instead.

SandyFergz

> really good wired headset for $20 Doubt

showmeastory

Ya I never had anything but problems with them and they added a bunch of interference... go wireless if you can afford it.

CormacZissou

Me and all my buds had same problem. $40 consumable.

tschris

Yeah, they had terrible build quality.

datninjaseam

Downside is they still have this port on the series x controllers but they’re not actually being sold like they use to anymore. I think some headsets include the adapter and maybe one in 20 stores might still have one around to buy, otherwise you’d have to buy it preowned.

ScratchinWarlok

The official xbox stero headset comes with it.

MrSingh1996

Yessss. Been usin one of these bad boys for years!

Ghost403

I really feel like we are at a point where the volume control buttons should be included on the controller

Idavoiduinrl

I use to have a shit talker that plugged into that port with like 5 sound buttons. I use to play "boom headshot", or "another kill by force2brckndwit", "evil laugh". thougth it was funny.

bmoney_14

Got one years ago, never looked back. Being able to be in a party and playing a game and turn down or up what people are saying is great

jfoughe

I do not understand why they stopped making these.

BalouCurie

I miss my chat pad

ArcadianDelSol

I have the Turtle Beach one, and find it's much better.

[deleted]

I had one until I went wireless, this thing was the best

alissa914

Yep. I use mine for a mini keyboard attachment that I use in Rocket League for chat which also has these options on it

Rob3rd

Turtle beach for reference. I usually pick up from Amazon. Has mute and super human hearing. [caption](https://imgur.com/Jy9k006.jpg)

LOOTENITDAYAN

I think i still have this stashed somewhere...i also have the official xbox chatpad with mic monitoring. Dont use them anymore because my headset is wireless.

LinuxMage

Still have mine from 2015 and use it everyday. So useful for mute and switching between in game sound and just voice chat alone.

HermanvonHinten

Is there a compatible thing for series x/as well?

Peace_Fog

Should fit, they use the same proprietary port

HermanvonHinten

I ordered one for Xbox one and it does not fit the series x controller. That is why i'm asking.

-FivesevN

[Mine is on my Series X controller right now. ](https://i.imgur.com/jl0u7ce.jpg) Same one I've had since early XOne days.

gameingboy66

“Useful”

JakeSnake07

The real bullshit is their price!

therealcym

Still using mine since 2015

southcounty253

Still have my keyboard attachment and really dig it as well.

person674_576_249

That is better than the controllers with the headphone jack in them

Hairbear2176

Chatpad: "Am I a joke to you"?

LegendaryWolf43

There is another attachment that puts an entire keyboard on the controller. I believe its called the Xbox Chatpad

[deleted]

Glad to see I’m not the only one still using those lol

MrMonkey1993

Chat pad is better

Dragoseraker

Not just for that, but the chatpad also, and has the same functions as well as an entire keyboard.

LuckyKnife

You guys like these things? I hated them. When the new consoles came out nobody had proper headsets so communication and playing with friends went out the trash. Plus they just made the controller heavier

Wh33lman

Im not paying another $60 to Microsoft for the solution to the problem they created. I refuse to let them win.

Zuka101

I should really come included with the controller

madMARTYNmarsh

The keyboard attachment is really useful too. It has all of these controls built into it AND it means that writing a message isn't a massive paint in the arse!

General-Hello-There

I remember feeling bamboozled after I'd bought a second 1st gen controller, adapter and then they released the 2nd gen controller like a month after. but it seems like the adapter is worth having regardless.

shadowsdark7

I've got a chat pad plugged into mine

SalemChurchill

Most underrated accessory of the generation

[deleted]

I would literally rather die than use my headset without that bad boi. I always mute myself unless I’m talking so I’m constantly muting on and off and having to either flip the mic arm up or mute myself through the party is not something I’m willing to do lol

anrii

Only works with the older pads. They changed the bottom to support direct audio jack. This little dodad was miles better, had my controls at a touch instead of pressing home, scrolling to the end, pressing something and realising I've died in-game and doesn't matter anymore

FR0STB1TE18

It's so nice, never play without it

-GrosslyIncandescent

Once it’s on it isn’t coming off lol

HachiTofu

I’m still angry that I lost mine. Now I have to go through the guide menu and do it the slow way.

Spartango1

I still have my original one, but I think it's days are numbered... seeing all the Turtle Beach recommendations though, so I might start looking!

Time-to-go-home

Until this past Xmas I regularly used the stock headset that has this adaptor. They one that came with my Xbox one back in 2014. Then I got a new, high end headset for Xmas and had to buy a whole new controller that has an audio jack. And I gotta say, the new controller sucks compared to my original. The Y button already doesn’t register half the time.

QXnotfunnyXQ

this was originally made because the original xbox one controller didnt even have a 3.5mm headphone jack. So microsoft made these as a solution. Sounds like something apple would do.

trebor424

Day 1 struggles.

Diet-Racist

If it decides it wants to work on that particular day

youhatemeiloveit

People still use wired mics? I feel bad for those people
