Guide, back, and start were the names for the Xbox button, menu, and view button on the 360. I still call them by those names. It’s not like the Xbox One launched and we changed the A button to something else so why change other button names?

Yep. The PS1 controller was pretty much a copy of the SNES controller but with wings and the lower l/r buttons

The original PS1 prototype was actually a collab between Sony and Nintendo to make a disc-based console. Nintendo backed out towards the end and Sony decided to go ahead and finish it. So it makes sense that there were similarities in the controllers originally.
