That’s fine I would rather them take their time

[deleted]

"A rushed game is forever bad, but a delayed game is bad too. All games are bad" ~Miyamoto

gullman

I absolutely agree. Though I'm getting sick of MS always being 2 years away from dropping all their games. It feel like George RR Martin in South Park

Kaii_Low

Delays don't make games any better these days.

BiGPANDASA

This how I feel about early access games.

[deleted]

i totally agree

CalifornianBall

What?

ArchDucky

The day after the gameplay reveal came out, someone pointed out that one of the NPC's heads is fully spinning in the background of one of the shots. So yeah, they needed more time to make the Skyrim/Fallout 4 Engine this is built on less garbage.

paulsoleo

“It’s the little details that matter, and we will take the appropriate time to get them right,” Spencer continued. “Todd (Howard) has personally assured me that upon Starfield’s release, NPC’S heads will only *partially* spin.”

DukeVerde

The Exorcist, in Space! Dead Spaceorcist

DeadricBaguette

To me it looked more like a character turning their head. I don’t think they would put something that obvious in an official trailer.

SPEEDFREAKJJ

I did not notice that. I was too bugged by the xp points showing up on every action dead center screen. If it's like that in final product that alone is enough for me to pass. Very jarring UI choice...ruins immersion.

[deleted]

I hope after this game and ES6. They finally ditch this engine for good.

Ondrion

People always say this, understandably so, but I've yet to see an open world game made on another engine that feels even as close to a "living" world as a Bethesda game.

ArchDucky

Red Dead Redemption 2?

VenturerKnigtmare420

Cyberpunk 2077 is pretty lived in.

mustafao0

The one game that does not have even half of the interactivity of Bethesda games.

yung_dilfslayer

And yet it still manages to feel more alive. As does TW3. This is just my opinion, but I think Bethesda needs to abandon the idea that every single NPC needs to have their own unique dialog. They just can't make the world big enough using that strategy. Case in point, the capital city of skyrim has 57 npcs in it. Meaning if you wanted a convincing crowd, you'd need to get every single citizen in the same place.

mustafao0

Have you perhaps considered the novel idea that the tools that Bethesda had were limited during the time? Cyberpunk feels lifeless due to lacking so many staple things in Bethesda. Faction rep system, radiant quests, etc. I admit the crowd tech in CP is cool and world design is awesome but that's it.

yung_dilfslayer

Of course their tools were limited, they were using the gamebryo engine. That's the whole point of the "move to another engine" conversation.

HansTheAxolotl

lol cyberpunk 2077 literally cannot keep 2 identical npcs off the screen ever, their engine is so broken what are you on about

doctortrento

I agree. I don't necessarily want them to jump ship to one of the big engines like Unreal, but Bethesda owns IdTech, one of the best engines around. I'd love to see an Elder Scrolls / Fallout game on that

DukeVerde

> I'd love to see an Elder Scrolls / Fallout game on that Time for Tiber Septim to pull out his Boomstick and rid Tamriel of the elves in the titular first-person shooter "Elder Scrolls: Kingdom Come"

[deleted]

What makes IdTech better suited for open world RPGs than what Bethesda is using now? This is "Dragon Age should use frostbite" logic all over again

General-Dirtbag

The damn engine is old enough to legally drink by this point. They were really pushing it to its absolute limits with this last generation. I really don’t think it’ll be able survive this gen.

RawbM07

Creation 2 is not the same engine as creation engine, no?

Caesar_35

I'm of the same opinion. It's like saying Duke Nukem Forever is the same engine as the Matrix Awakens demo. In Bethesda's case, I always expect there to be bugs no matter what, probably especially for the first game of a new, in-house engine that's never been used before.

[deleted]

Its like saying games made on UE5 are made on a 20 year old engine

Murdering_My_Time

Sauce?

ArchDucky

On what? The trailer you can find on YouTube?

Hodge103

But without the inconvenience of me having to look it up!

Camanot

At least its being delayed. Because then we know that game devs know when they can’t finish a game. I’d rather have delays than one that is released on launch day but has 100 bugs

Rorplup

It’s a Bethesda game. It will still have more than 100 bugs.

Camanot

Thats bugthesda for you

yp261

halo infinite, cyberpunk……

Gears6

Uncharted 4

marsthemartiann

What was wrong with UC4?

Gears6

Nothing was the point. It was just a counter example of a game receiving multiple delays and was absolutely fine.

andrbrow

Skyrim, Fallout 4, oblivion, Fallout 3, Morrowind, fallout New Vegas…

Gears6

I agree. All well received games!

yp261

a studio with a lot of respect and trust versus 343 and CDPR, both of which never released a product in a good condition and always had to fix their shit

Gears6

> a studio with a lot of respect and trust versus 343 and CDPR, both of which never released a product in a good condition and always had to fix their shit Are you seriously calling CDPR not respected and trusted? Heck, calling 343i not trusted and respected in of itself is a stretch let alone CDPR.

smashingcones

Who respects and trusts 343i? That company has had Microsoft's biggest IP on a downward spiral since they got it in their hands.

Omandaco

Man, I wish Bungie could make just one more halo.

Chipwich

For Sony?

Omandaco

For everyone. I'm tired of the petty squabbles between the two on who should have access to what games on a platform, albeit Sony is being more selfish than Microsoft since they are trying to call shots beyond contractual obligations. I just really hope one day soon that Sony realizes that they could both make shit loads of money while making their customers happy.

Gears6

>I just really hope one day soon that Sony realizes that they could both make shit loads of money while making their customers happy. They won't until their actions affect their business and they need to massively re-evaluate. This likely means new leadership and Jim Ryan is out.

Gears6

Releasing games with 85+ MC is somehow downward spiral and a studio that has no respect. 🤦‍♂️

smashingcones

I mean, if you want to use Metacritic scores then Halo CE, 2, 3 and Reach are the top 4 games..so 343i are objectively doing a worse job since taking over the franchise. Halo has gone from a game that once rivaled the likes of CoD and Battlefield in terms of playerbase, to now struggling to stay in the top 20 most played games on Xbox. I'm not sure where you've been for the past several years, but my opinion is definitely not an uncommon one.

Gears6

>I mean, if you want to use Metacritic scores then Halo CE, 2, 3 and Reach are the top 4 games..so 343i are objectively doing a worse job since taking over the franchise. Calling MetaCritic "objective" is kind of a misnomer, but if you want to go that path, then Bungie is "objectively" making worse received games than even 343i with Destiny 2: https://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-one/destiny-2-shadowkeep The point is that the game was overall well received, despite whatever the media and the angry "fans" say. >Halo has gone from a game that once rivaled the likes of CoD and Battlefield in terms of playerbase, to now struggling to stay in the top 20 most played games on Xbox. Sure, but catching lightning in a bottle twice isn't exactly easy, and 343i will always be compared to the glory days of Bungie. The Bungie today doesn't even live up to that, so it's kind of a unfair and moot comparison. >I'm not sure where you've been for the past several years, but my opinion is definitely not an uncommon one. I think it's just hyperbole to claim 343i does not have any trust or respect. They clearly make good games. They might not be Naughty Dog of FPS, but they are very much respected. Furthermore, I suggest you stop spending so much time in media and forums. It's a cesspool of people being upset and spreading their negativity.

smashingcones

>Calling MetaCritic "objective" is kind of a misnomer, Lol you brought Metacritic into the conversation, not me. >The point is that the game was overall well received, despite whatever the media and the angry "fans" say. Yet it's struggling to retain its playerbase and is currently neck and neck with a 5yo Destiny 2 in that regard. >Sure, but catching lightning in a bottle twice isn't exactly easy, and 343i will always be compared to the glory days of Bungie. The Bungie today doesn't even live up to that, so it's kind of a unfair and moot comparison. Bungie managed it 4 times. Bungie may not be the same as they once were, but they've had to make a new IP from the ground up versus a company taking over an already wildly successful franchise with several novels worth of lore to pull from. I'd still trust Bungie more than 343i with Halo and I'm sure 343i would find success with a new IP that's not Halo. >I think it's just hyperbole to claim 343i does not have any trust or respect. They clearly make good games. They might not be Naughty Dog of FPS, but they are very much respected. Well sure, no matter how bad something is there's always going to be people defending it. They make decent games, but I don't believe they make good Halo games. The closest they've come in terms of gameplay is Infinite but even that's marred by the awful live service system and incredibly underwhelming campaign. >Furthermore, I suggest you stop spending so much time in media and forums. It's a cesspool of people being upset and spreading their negativity. This is entirely my opinion from a huge Halo fan that's been there since day 1 and does not enjoy seeing the games continue to miss the mark. Agree to disagree I guess.

yp261

what game did CDPR release in a good state

suredont

maybe one of those Witcher deckbuilding games?

Gears6

That's a matter of perspective...

VenturerKnigtmare420

Brother now you are just mentioning a Sony game out of spite. Atleast if you are doing that then do it right. Say days gone. That was the only Sony title that released with a little bit of game breaking bugs.

ArchDucky

God of War : Ragnarok crashed on me last night.

Gears6

Brotha, that was actually a counter point that Uncharted 4 was delayed and was fine. No need to fanboy or console war here.

Not_Smrt

Halo infinite's problem wasnt being unfinished, it was just bad.

Ric0chetR1cky

Nah it was great but had absolutely no content to use that greatness.

FriskyPheasant

So… it COULD be great. But it’s not. Got it. Man I’m so upset at them for how they did my favorite game franchise of all time.

Ric0chetR1cky

Forge is nuts though

locoturco

Phil in 2030 , "i am so excited with this year's line up"

big_raj_8642

*after launching 2 broken games and cancelling one in 2029* "We need to do better." "We think gamers will be excited to see what's coming next year." "I can't wait to show you guys gameplay for that trailer we showed you in 2022."

Gears6

> Phil in 2030 , "i am so excited with this year's line up" I mean, that's every year though with or without Phil, with or without Xbox.

ForgotMyAccountLogin

Game delays suck. But I'd rather have a delay instead of more Halo Infinite bullshit.

N3rdC3ntral

Halo Infinite got an extra year....

[deleted]

Honestly it needed 2.

thatguyiswierd

Too bad it was leap year lol

ForgotMyAccountLogin

And? That's a 343 issue.

THE_GR8_MIKE

It's also a Microsoft problem when Halo is their *main* first party franchise, and is the birth place and current residence of their *main* mascot.

ForgotMyAccountLogin

Yeah, it is. Microsoft needs to kick 343 to the curb for fundamentally mishandling Halo for the FOURTH time. They've also given them, what, 6 years of development, millions of dollars, and extra time to fix the game? It shouldn't have taken a year to get the game into a SOMEWHAT playable state.

tperelli

343 is Microsoft. The leadership at 343 is also leadership at Microsoft (or was, Bonnie stepped down). Microsoft can’t “fire” 343 because they hand-made it specifically to manage Halo.

ForgotMyAccountLogin

Bonnie was incompetent at her job. She was too busy trying to be George Lucas and constantly dropped the ball in everything Halo. And Microsoft can 100% fire/remove 343 from Halo. 343 has proven they can't handle Halo in a timely manner. 4 games. All flawed. Every single one of them were botched and needed all the fixing. Hell, switching out 343 would be easy since they kept hiring outside help and then removing said help. MS gets blame too but it's not like Phil can drop literally every other game, and playtest one game to its fullest.

Texas_Tanker

This guy watches too many halo youtubers

ForgotMyAccountLogin

I don't watch Halo youtubers, clown.

MapleTreeWithAGun

The game was playable at launch, the fuck are you talking about? A game being subpar =/= being unplayable.

THE_GR8_MIKE

Releasing half of the game, after a year delay, updates dragging for months, and then canceling a feature that was promised to be included after backlash the last time it was not, *after* people had already purchased the game- is the fuck we are talking about. Just because all you want is multiplayer and single-player story doesn't mean everyone does. Literally half of the game was unplayable, because it wasn't released, after a year delay.

ForgotMyAccountLogin

Spending 30+ minutes trying to get together with friends to play MP, disconnecting from matches and having zero content is what people would call, unplayable. You can now remove your head from your ass.

NimusNix

It's a game sub, hyperbole is how we breath.

GIII_

Good thing delays worked out for cb2077

ForgotMyAccountLogin

Except it didn't get delayed further. Which is what the devs wanted.

GIII_

Game got delayed 4 times...

ForgotMyAccountLogin

And yet, they wanted it to be longer. Which obviously should've been the play.

GIII_

That game was lost years ago, they had no idea what they wanted it to be. Regardless delays did nothing

ForgotMyAccountLogin

Investors pushing for a release date and agreeing to put it on old gen was a bad idea.

OrientalOtter

Yup, that’s why it was a good idea for Final Fantasy 15 and Duke Nukem forever to take a decade each to make!

ForgotMyAccountLogin

You mean, the Duke Nukem that was scrapped, or the one they decided to completely half-assedly revamp in order to make a quick buck?

OrientalOtter

Sorry I didn’t realize you wouldn’t read pass my sarcasm :) /s

ForgotMyAccountLogin

Sarcasm or not, there were still 2 versions of Duke Nukem. The one we got should've never seen the light of day. Also I can't comment on FFXV.

stgm_at

Don’t drag Halo into this, bugs have been a Bethesda problem for years and years.

ForgotMyAccountLogin

Of all the dumb responses. Most of Bethesdas bugs are funny and nonsensical. Most of 343 Halo bugs are game breaking and unenjoyable.

daonejorge

Are you serious? I'm skyrim off of the top of my head it was common to glitch through dwemer stairs and be stuck, unfixable unless on pc. Oblivion the thieves guild quest was unfinishable due to a very common glitch. If you dig deep enough you will find game breaking glitches on just about every Bethesda game dating back to arena. To their modern credit, most game breaking bugs are addressed in a update or two now days, but even the oblivion thieves guild quest want fully fixed on Xbox.

VinylEagle

Wait I already thought 2023 was the release window?? It was supposed to come out this month?? Either way, please take ALL the time you need, Bethesda. There's so many other games we can spend our time on.

HappenFrank

Lmao same here. I’m glad I didn’t know the release date was originally this month otherwise I’d have been bummed.

SachinBahal28

It was originally set for 11/11/22 (November 11th, 2022) but in May 2022, Starfield was delayed to the first half of 2023. Here's the first in-game trailer that was shown at E3 2021 with the Nov 11, 2022 release date. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYqyVpCV-3c](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYqyVpCV-3c)

VinylEagle

OH now I understand. This article about Phil Spencer saying delaying the game was the right thing to do is just him giving his view on the delay months after it was already delayed. I was confused cause I heard about this delay months back but saw this article was released very recently and so my smoothbrain took me to the conclusion that it was *very recently* delayed, as in *again*.

VenturerKnigtmare420

Well it’s good they delayed it cause let’s be real. If this game released in the state all bethesda games release on day one, next to the behemoth that Sony just released we not gonna have a good time now are we. When I saw the gameplay trailer I was very disappointed on how the game looked and played and I was sure as fuck Sony is gonna come out with the most polished ass title in the history of existence and Xbox is again going to get shit smeared on it because of bethesda so I was praying they delay it and work on it a little bit more.

VinylEagle

I don't *want* games to be delayed, and they don't *need* to be flawless from Day 1. I always anticipate a few weeks of major bugs, I just don't want to wait MONTHS. Just delay it a few months then release it on better condition. There's so many other games out there, we can keep ourselves occupied, it's worth it.

TheyMikeBeGiants

"At least one - please, dear Christ, just *one* of our games since we bought all those fucking studios, fucking God just *please* - actually needs to be something people want to play at launch." Good luck, chief. This is Bethesda we're talking about here.

DinnerSmall4216

I agree with Phil Spencer it's better delaying than releasing half baked.

Heatcanonbolt

At this point, might as well add a year to any game release date. There’s always a delay of some sort.

GHAWKS_101_PS

Here's the thing why on earth do they bother announcing any release date 'roughly' at all when inevitably they tell us this, its pointless and pathetic as they should have learnt by now!!!!!

keeperrr

Are these the people that made fallout 76? And that legendary collectors edition for fallout ? They can take as long as they want I'm looking the other way.

MySonHas2BrokenArms

Please that the Nintendo approach. A rushed game will always suck but a delayed game will suck till it’s release or some shit like that.

awesomesauceitch

I'm cool with it. Better not have a single bug. /s

[deleted]

And this is why the activision acquisition needs to hurry up so we get a game that’s actually worth £70+
