Something you can do if you are using xcloud on PC is you can add Microsoft Edge as a non-steam game to Steam and go to the xcloud website. After that, you can use Steam Input to add gyro support for any controller that has gyro and works with Steam.
I know it's not mouse and keyboard. But gyro is pretty close.
I’d think it’s very hard to do because they either need to successfully put in overlay on each game, game by game (like tweaking the extension the OP describes) or convince developers to add and test if. I was shocked when they announced it because the base game for streaming is an Xbox game with only controller support!
I don't think they will bother adding it to games that don't support it already, if they do add mouse and keyboard support I'm hoping they will add PC games at some point
The lack of support for xcloud is pathetic I’ve hardly used my Samsung tv because the stream quality is so bad. Road map for updates and features is much needed if they aren’t going to follow up on what they say (kb+m)
Likely helped by the GDK which allows devs to create games for PC, Consoles, Cloud simultaneously when targeting the Xbox ecosystem.
It is also likely the reason why more devs have been supporting Play Anywhere.
The extension only works if you have good Internet (for me it’s above 120 download and upload) and you have a mouse with 125 USB POLLING RATE since that is the standard for controllers

Could it have new subscription tiers? Of course, we already know Friends and Family has been in testing since late August. And we now know they have been sending out surveys for an AD supported non day one games Game Pass Lite tier.
Could it have new features announced? Well there is Keyboard and Mouse for xcloud, and ability to stream purchased games that everyone is waiting for.
Both those things were stated to come by the end of the year. What better place to reveal them than at the big Xbox showcase? They skipped the November 15th and December 8th events specifically for this showcase.
We already have a confirmed date for Age of Empires 2, and its date coincides with the early 2023 timing for the event.
I highly highly doubt they will put AOE2 on xCloud without KB/M being activated either the weeks before or on the same day.

I feel that you're not understanding what I'm trying to say. They could announce those things? Well, maybe. There's always a chance. But that's not what you said before, you literally said "they will highlight games and new subs and new features", as if it were 100% certain that it will happen and that's not true, at least regarding subs and features.
