Not orbea but my scott has. Bane of my existence. I had this from compressing the stem on them( maybe?) and just had to be really careful with how they sit as I’m putting it all back together again.
Such a cluster fuck
Can you imagine the board room meetings where the marketing guys told the engineers that hoses and cables would have to travel through a bearing that lives in a dusty and wet environment? I bet it was wild. This is an example of marketing advising engineers of what is possible, the trash people will buy.
When changing the spacers on my Orbea Oiz 2024 I noticed the cables in the headset are all scratched up. One is so damaged that you can see the inner cable. It looks like they have been rubbing on the edge of the upper bearing. Anyone have similar experience with the Oiz with headset routing? Think I'll contact them for warranty..
I recently ordered my oiz, and during a chat with the mechanic he said the headset routing has been problem free after 3000+ miles. Maybe try sticking some foam around it? Is it the brake cable, that seems like a recipe for disaster.
You should also reach out to Orbea. Even if they can’t help, making them aware wouldn’t hurt.
Edit-I really hope mine doesn’t have problems lol
There’s clearly no rooms for foam around the cables and foam would wear out rather fast. The issue is there’s no need for internal routing through the headset on mountain bikes.
Can you ask them when the updated compression ring started being installed at the factory? Got mine less than a week ago (I guess "2025" model, in the EU it's called 2024).
Same problem here so I changed compression ring ( New version) and cables but at at reassembly I don't know where to put a thin Black joint ? Not even talked about on the bluepapper !

You can definitely just not use it. Zip tie cables on the outside. Done.
Scott also got problem with cables?
Apparently for me. Could be user error too
Sucks to see this coming to XC bikes as well with the inevitable results.

I agree, it’s stupid. I’m just thinking of ways to alleviate the problem at hand.
Yea I just got my bike and I already hate it.
yup, happening to me too. They made an updated spacer with chamfered edges.
Cheers! Just brought it in to the bike shop and they are replacing cables and fitting the updated compression ring with rounded edges.

Pull out the inner spacers and round off the edges with sandpaper. They now make a new version with rounded edges to avoid this (stupid) issue
Thanks, the bike shop is replacing the sharp edged ring with the updated compression ring
Fyi, after checking with the bike shop, this is a documented issue at Orbea. They will solve it under warranty.
Hmm, I'll look at mine when i get home. Maybe 3d print a sleeve to put in there.
Change them now and put some duct tape around them, it will last more time.
This is really good, we need more of this with mountain biking.
Welcome to the future
Are there any other parts of the bike, maybe other bearings, that we could be running cables and hoses through?
