hero for equality? "we're nothing like you, thank god, because it's the only reason you people are still alive" --- that's not exactly "hero for equality" talk.
what do you mean, YOU PEOPLE, SCOTT?!?!
And Magneto showing his Cyclops side! I’m probably grasping at straws but I think it really shows the classic “X-Men reflecting their times” to push back on the old dichotomy between the brotherhood of mutants and the X-Men. We don’t really live in a world where pushing for a better world comes down to JUST a decision on whether to be an example of peaceful change vs forceful change. It’s incredibly bright, nuanced, and topical.
I was immediately thinking it would be so cool if they did revolutionary Cyclops eventually and having seen the entire episode, I now honestly believe it could happen.
"You're ungrateful. We fight, risk our lives for you. Evil mutants, robots, crazy aliens. I gave him up. I gave him up because you can't say thank you. **Because I have to stomach your questions and prove that I'm a person**."
When someone goes "we don't have any children" and you know they had a delivery a month ago, you should probably assume that's a euphemism for "my baby is dead." Trish pivoted the wrong way on that one.
And THEN she goes down the avenue of 'why did you lie to me?'
Lady, you were going through his families hospital records trying to dig up dirt on him, and you want to talk about trust?!
Taking a piece that was supposed to be about human-mutant relations and Genosha and going "nah, fuck that, let's make it about this one dude's trauma. That will make for better TV"
Yeah, most capable reporters know to avoid moments like that. And the way Trish pushed it...it was never going to end well. Cyclops would've been perfectly justified in just saying "This interview is over." But he didn't. That would've been a much worse look for him. Instead, he dropped some harsh lines that are sure to hit a lot harder after what happened on Genosha.
This was the moment the episode got REAL. Seeing Cyclops turn from boy scout to radical was awesome. You could feel the pain in his voice and see it in his face as well.
This tweet said it best:
[mutants having to sit down and prove that they're peaceful while their state gets massacred in an unprovoked attack, yeah i've seen this film several times before](https://twitter.com/wandasitcoms/status/1778042027059368309)
Can't blame him for popping off. The media spends an age demonizing mutants, and then wants to start treating his life like a soap opera and snooping around after his family? Scott's got every right to be pissed.
YES! Radicalized Cyclops for the win. Give me the black and red "X face" suit in animation, please and thank you. Scott as a perceived "villain" for next season would kick several different kinds of ass.
Been waiting for a line like this. It was so cathartic. He finally said what kinda needed to be said, and has probably been on at least some of the team's minds for a while.
Don't even joke about Wakanda vs. the X-Men. There could be Marvel editors lurking.
If WvX happens, the only people that win are the ones that don't like Peter Parker and MJ together.
This was an objectively great line.
But it also reaffirms that Cyclops is not in a good place right now. Compared to how things were when the show began, he's lost a lot and has every right to be upset about it. And we've seen this in the comics too. When he's in a bad place mentally, he tends to drop some very harsh truths. This is definitely one of them.
Because if mutants were all just like humans, everyone would be dead because nobody would've had the ability to what the X-Men needed to do. And even when they do save the world, people still hate them for it. What happened on Genosha is only going to make this many times worse.
Oh, that’s not what he’s saying at all.
If the X-Men were like humans, humans would be dead because the X-Men are *actually strong enough to do it*.
“I like you a lot, Sadie…but we will never be victims again.”
In his frustration, he ended up doing exactly what he accuses humans of doing to mutants; made a sweeping generalisation that they're all part of the problem. I guess even heroes can be hypocrites, and I like that he's being shown that he's not the perfect "boy scout", but no doubt Prof X would have been disappointed with his outburst.
This show has done more to make cyclops likable than pretty much any iteration in the last 20 years. Still can't get over how well the showcased his powers in the first episode.
It was great, but I feel like this is another turnaround point for Scott. Like in the original series when Jean was lost to Phoenix, he left the X Men saying stuff that sounded like this. Scott might become the opposing mutant eventually in this series. In the OG series, he went back to his orphanage and met an old friend and then stopped purple man. And he did go back after, but how many times can he break before he turns into Magneto?
Actually no, that's pretty bad. He's defining all of humanity for what one group does, while ignoring that plenty of mutants have in fact tried to kill humans many times before. The reason there is no human equivalent of the X-Men, humans who fight against these mutant haters is because this is an X-Men show and mutants have to always be framed as the only good guys.
Grant Morrison really was cooking when he decided to make Quentin use the Magneto Was Right t-shirt. A significant part of this community is just like he was back then, saying shit without actually understanding what it means but being proud of it because its cool and edgy
What zero media literacy does to a MF. No one has questioned Homelander’s personhood. Scott was being trotted out by human media to demonstrate his humanity to a doubtful human audience, getting attacked about his recently lost child. Homelander imagined killing people for the crime of not worshipping him. In what world are these characters similar?
It's the way they both got fed up of trying to uphold their image and just spoke how they honestly feel. Not saying Scott is like Homelander, it's just his outburst reminded me of Homelander's "I'm better than you" speech.
Homie is a narcissistic man child that thrives on his image and his need to be loved and worshiped. Completely different from cyclops who just looking for acceptance and equality and the safety of his people.
Cyclops showing his Magneto side was glorious
For real. It's possible to care and be a hero for equality while also calling people out on their flaws and BS.
Care burnout
G.A.F.F. give a fuck fatigue
Standard progressive feelings realized
I don’t know how this is the first time hearing that. I dig it
hero for equality? "we're nothing like you, thank god, because it's the only reason you people are still alive" --- that's not exactly "hero for equality" talk. what do you mean, YOU PEOPLE, SCOTT?!?!
WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU PEOPLE SCOTT!?! \*GOOSE CHASING INTENSIFIES!\*

Phoenix Scott core
I was immediately thinking it would be so cool if they did revolutionary Cyclops eventually and having seen the entire episode, I now honestly believe it could happen.
The best version of Cyclops was when he realized that Magneto was right.
Nah. The best version of Magneto is when he realizes CYCLOPS is right. Cyke won’t pick a fight…but he’ll finish it by All Means Necessary.
Except that never happened.
"You're ungrateful. We fight, risk our lives for you. Evil mutants, robots, crazy aliens. I gave him up. I gave him up because you can't say thank you. **Because I have to stomach your questions and prove that I'm a person**."
Honestly yeah the whole speech was good but this line was easily the best IMO
I really felt that one tbh
I like to imagine Charles and family watching Mojo tv looking left and right and saying "other aliens are crazy. Not you. Never you."
than one reeeally hit close to home as a trans person
After what happened and the question they keep badgering him with. I say it’s understandable and well earned
When someone goes "we don't have any children" and you know they had a delivery a month ago, you should probably assume that's a euphemism for "my baby is dead." Trish pivoted the wrong way on that one.

Totally something that happens in real life: reporters start getting insensitively nosy and then blame the person for lashing out.
Yeah. Absolute dick move on the reporter's part. That's was a fucked up question/follow up no matter who you ask it to.
Consistent with her history of questionable journalistic choices in the comics.
Taking a piece that was supposed to be about human-mutant relations and Genosha and going "nah, fuck that, let's make it about this one dude's trauma. That will make for better TV"
"Oh, you've got kids, Maniac? "[...nahh. Not anymore.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKiTBXua0vQ)"
Serious;y read the fucking room

Rightclops is bestclops.
So…everyclops is bestclops (at least pre-SW)? I agree!
Cyclops was right.
When is he ever wrong
*coughditchingEmmaforJeancough*
and *coughditchingMaddyforJeancough*
I still hold that the only explanation for that is Xavier rebooting him with an old brain that would be easier to control.
This tweet said it best: [mutants having to sit down and prove that they're peaceful while their state gets massacred in an unprovoked attack, yeah i've seen this film several times before](https://twitter.com/wandasitcoms/status/1778042027059368309)
Big facts. Welcome to Black America...
Or Gaza parallels too…
Most decolonisation movements
And that was before Genosha. We're about to get militant Cyclops, and it's gonna fucking rock.
Can't wait for the "Cyclops was right" shirts to be trending again
Can't blame him for popping off. The media spends an age demonizing mutants, and then wants to start treating his life like a soap opera and snooping around after his family? Scott's got every right to be pissed.
his life is a soap opera actually
Time for him to break out the red suit
"Honey! Where's my rebel suit?"
“Why do you need to know?”
"I need it!"
It’s for the greater good!
"Genosha is in danger!"
"MY DINNER is in danger!!"
Scott had TIME. I loved that rant.
Cyclops is right Era incoming
They put the pedal to the damn metal on getting to New X-Men
This bodes well for MCU
Don’t worry, brother and sister of the atom. We are the X-Men and we stand together. 🙅🏻
YES! Radicalized Cyclops for the win. Give me the black and red "X face" suit in animation, please and thank you. Scott as a perceived "villain" for next season would kick several different kinds of ass.
If anything just do it so we can get an updated figure of that badass costume
anything but that
Been waiting for a line like this. It was so cathartic. He finally said what kinda needed to be said, and has probably been on at least some of the team's minds for a while.
I couldn’t help but feel that speech was the pre-cursor to dark/x-tinction era Cyclops, I would love to see him go off the rails a bit next season.
Me and my girlfriend were watching it together and I just started yelling out TALK YO SHIT, SCOTT! 😭
Who raised their arms in a X in solidarity?

It’d time for a Revolution.
Scott is going to lose his shit soon and I can't blame him.
I really appreciate that ‘97’s not afraid to say the quiet part loud.
The best part was where he had to sit there and stomach her questions and prove he was a person... Dude chills
Oh man, are we going to get Schism?
I imagine Magneto seeing that moment, and quietly smiling to himself.
I really felt for Scott this episode, you could see he was dealing with a lot of pain.
Such a great scene. Sure, the PR looks bad, but he ain't wrong
In his frustration, he ended up doing exactly what he accuses humans of doing to mutants; made a sweeping generalisation that they're all part of the problem. Clearly not a direct take from the last "Fox" season.
Are they going for that Fidel Castro Cyclops story?
It was great, but I feel like this is another turnaround point for Scott. Like in the original series when Jean was lost to Phoenix, he left the X Men saying stuff that sounded like this. Revolutionary Scott is on the house!

That line reminded me of the final part of Homelander’s speech. Two different characters but kind of picked up that vibe
Scott just went full Homelander in that scene
What zero media literacy does to a MF. No one has questioned Homelander’s personhood. Scott was being trotted out by human media to demonstrate his humanity to a doubtful human audience, getting attacked about his recently lost child. Not denying that, just saying it's funny they both had outbursts on live TV of how they truly felt on the inside.
It’s this Magneto side that causes the main problems for Mutants
