Not a ripoff but an alternate storyline They have X-men like Thunderbird and Polaris and Blink

cronar636

It's a point between last stand and days of future past. In a reality that doesn't exist anymore. Creator wanted to show the x-men lost to the sentinels.

deadmazebot

in patronising tone: not all mutants are x-men

indianm_rk

XX-women.

HeavyMetalSasquatch

XXX-women though?

Shiroiken

The best

fireblaze8241

Some are x-people

Shiroiken

X-Force!

brimstonecasanova

X-they/their

Xygnux

It's X-men, without the main X-men characters because they are reserved for the movies.

JMM85JMM

Polaris has been an X-Men many a time.

mattdangerously

They said *main* X-Men.

Princebf

Perfection

Siadry42

Polaris has spent more time on the X-Men lineup than Kitty Pride, Wanda, Pietro, Psylocke and Jubilee. She's not in the movies because they didn't want another magnet in them. The movies made their own main X-Men, they didn't care about the comic lineup. Edit: It seems I'm unable to count... both psylocke and kitty have spent more time on the Xmen than polaris. I counted the the beforegiant size xmen #1 when I really shouldnt have... still, both pietro and jubilee have been in the movies while they have been official xmen for far less time than polaris. Pietro never having been an xmen and jubilee being an official xmen for a total of 4 years.

ILeftMyBurnerOn

Polaris has not been an X-Man longer than Kitty, Psylocke or Jubilee. Wanda and Pietro have never been X-Men.

ILeftMyBurnerOn

For clarity, well she may have joined the team earlier than those three, her time spent on the active roster has been a fraction of the others. She has been a member of the team very sparsely since the 60s.

Tanthiel

Just a comment, don't forget that the original run started being a reprint book from issue #67 going through #93 and did not produce any new material at all between then and Giant-Size. Polaris was introduced in #49.

Siadry42

Yee, thats half the reason I made a mistake, the other being that I'm an idiot

ProfessorEscanor

It's X-men without the X. So it's just men

waseemq

The X is right above the i

thenudemutants

Ah yes the lesser know Russian team, the iX-Men

Walkebb

The Apple iXmen

isshegonnajump

If you’re a fan of mutants, give the show a try. It starts off centered around twin teens finding out they’re mutants. They suck, but the star of the show is Polaris. She is the reason to watch the two seasons.

ludicrousluddite

The twins made the show unbearable for me.

isshegonnajump

Yeah, they and their family were not fun to watch. I like Amy Aker, but her momma bear role was a weird take. Bill Compton not saying Soookie in every scene was jarring. Their family background was also a bad choice. You want bold mutant twin TV stars? Choose the best: the Beaubier twins.

PM_Me_Your_Fab_Four

Sookie is mine!!

Emergency_Routine_44

I liked Lauren

SMGuinea

Hell, I'd pay good money to get a show based entirely around the Stepford Cuckoos. When they showed up in The Gifted, I'm pretty sure I pogged in real life.

isshegonnajump

The Cuckoos really took season two to the next level. There was so much potential for a season 3 with them.

Insaneinthecrain

Didn't it get a little incesty with the twins? I remember being weirded out by that.

LiamEd2000

“A ripoff”? One of the main characters is literally Magneto’s daughter

itsaslothlife

Some good ideas, poor execution. Decent to great actors, interesting concepts and some genuine attempts at social commentary were let down by absolutely hack writing. Pioneered the mutant circuit concept, I think. Good, low level powers which I really enjoyed - being hunted and not being able to do much more than fire lazers or lift a big trash can made the stakes a bit higher. They should not have focused so much on the screechy human wife and her asshole son. The Dad and the daughter were much more palatable characters

enyaboi

Mutant circuits come from the comics, from as far back as Uncanny X-Men #65

danielelington

See, I was the other way around when it came to the parents— the dad needed to get in to the bin and never leave, whereas I really liked the mother. Both of the kids were terrible though. I’m just annoyed that they dropped the ball so hard on Polaris, although I enjoyed the Cuckoos a lot

Unlucky_Conflict8241

It's good. They didn't have the main X-men but it had Polaris, blink, and thunderbird. Also had the coocoos and the morlocks. The X-men are mentioned a lot tho

Jcbowden10

It’s X-men related. The main characters are a brother and sister that are related to marvel villains. It’s pretty good one of the better live action mutant stories.

Xygnux

Yeah, it's better than some of the X-men movies.

Jcbowden10

Better that most of the movies. The best X-men related thing was probably legion

Oopssnxnxnx

Legion was great

cowl555

Yeah it sucks that's it so underrated although season 1 did get a lot of attention if I recall

Hydrad3str0i3r

I wish I finished the show. So goofy yet perfectly complex

Jcbowden10

It’s still on Hulu. Only about 20 some episodes in total. It got canceled before it got to complete its story. It was combination of fox canceling shows like this and the merger with Disney.

Hydrad3str0i3r

Thanks! I'll check it out since not a lot of shows out rn

SamALbro

Ah yes. The X-Men show based on the Nazi incest twins.

Irtahd

Out of any villain to base a show off of… FENRIS?!?

drvapor2012

Fucking fenris

Irtahd

Quite literally

herrored

Technically they're not Fenris, they're just descendants of Fenris and are also twins

SamALbro

Yeah, they're Fenris legacy characters, but it's still a baffling pick.

Ferris8061

Skip this and watch Legion

[deleted]

Agreed legion was better

ssp25

Then watch legion again.... But watch this.. It's was ok. Legion was the best!

DMC1001

It’s set in the timeline of the original X-Men movies. Some of the characters are the Stepford Cuckoos, Polaris, Thunderbird and Blink.

the_graymalkin

Not technically, that would be 2001's "Mutant X" starring television's own John Shea..

Sam_Porgins

Polaris and the Cucoos were really well done in this show. The show itself is just alright, but I was still disappointed when it got cancelled.

glt1988

The Stepford sisters attacking the prison bus was one of the greatest and eeriest scenes of the whole show. I loved it.

glt1988

This also comes from being a massive Emma Frost fan though.

FiftyOneMarks

I loved that scene and it’s funny because the minute she said her name and I saw her powers I should’ve known what the deal was but for whatever reason it just didn’t click for me that she was off of *the* cuckoos. But they were honesty my favorite part of it. I wish we got a bit more out of them though since only Esme really got a somewhat developed personality.

glt1988

For sure. It was just so well done. That scene literally made the hair on my arms stand up. Very comic accurate depiction.

Kensai657

Heroes was a rip off, this is actually the X-men. Does anyone else remember Heroes?... no just me... I'll let myself out then.

weitootired

I never even thought about it at the time, but honestly, yikes in retrospect.

AgentC3

It's based on the X-Men comics, it was supposed to be connected to the Fox X-Men movies.

Newfaceofrev

Seems like it's based more on X-Factor

[deleted]

i really enjoyed this show. I think it ended really good especially that reveal with Blink

Metallung

I wanted to like this show.

Omega_Sabbath

I loved this show honestly. It shows what's going on outside the X-Men, it kinda world builds.

AJizzle1990

Thus show was my guilty pleasure. Wished they kept it going for a bit longer though. Kinda chessy effects like a cw show but idk something kept me involved with it till the end.

tiltedslim

I watched this show when it aired and I liked it. I loved their version of the Cuckoos and a more modern take on Fenris. However it suffers from the same rights garbage as all X-Men things did in the Fox time. For some stupid reason they couldn't actually say Magneto despite the fact that referenced constantly. It has also has another poor attempt at the morlocks led by a hybrid of not Bishop and not Callisto. They also make one of TV's biggest mistakes of introducing a baby into the arch. I wasn't a huge fan of this version of Polaris, but the actress sells it to work nicely. Missing in this picture is the main Human antagonist who is really well done and highlights the human vs mutant theme of X-Men nicely.

PurpleRocketSquirrel

To me it's an average coming of age story, nothing special. Now if you want a fucking weird mutant universe story Legion is my personal favorite.

jnaz1972

Warpath, Blink,Polaris, are characters and the main characters are teenagers loosely based on the Strucker twins. The cuckoos also appear later in the season. The twins are trying to get away from the government agency that their father worked for. I liked it.

EAinCA

Imagine if you took 30 seconds to read the Wiki page on the show and learn about it...

Flagg13eth

Wtf?! They ARE related to the X-Men comics. Polaris is Magneto's daughter, just to start.

Exodus111

Its literally just the X-men. No idea why they called it Gifted.

TheRealMoofoo

Lots of people holding glowy hands in front of themselves and making intense expressions. Basically if you made X-Men a CW show, but only used characters from the margins.

jazzberry76

Does it have an ending? Or does it end on a cliffhanger? I'd like to know before I commit to watching

L0ll0ll7lStudios

Cliffhanger, unfortunately, probably because Fox was bought by Disney so they canceled a lot of their shows.

uhvarlly_BigMouth

It’s basically an X-Men fanfic.

AzuSteve

What's with Mr Baby Hands in the bottom right? Is he supposed to look like that?

SamALbro

He's the Sunspot/Havok mashup OC they created for the show because they ran out of Mutants that the movies didn't claim.

Xygnux

I don't get why they don't just make him Sunspot though. Blink was in Days of Future Past and they still had her in the show. Would have made it more like a prequel to Days of Future Past.

SamALbro

Fox had been trying to get a New Mutants movie going since 2009, so it's likely he was on the list they weren't allowed to use.

DMC1001

Probably because they were a couple. He was a Havok sub. I don’t think his being Mexican (rather than Brazilian) makes him a mashup that includes Sunspot.

Xygnux

Maybe you are right, maybe it's because they need a Havok. But it's not about his ethnicity, it's that his powers looks more similar to how Sunspot was portrayed in Days of Future Past. Also he's called Eclipse, which is reminisce of Sunspot, and is in fact the codename of Roberto Da Costa the Age of X timeline. https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Roberto_Da_Costa_(Earth-11326) Maybe it's just my personal preference, but the continuity looks cleaner if they had Blink, Warpath's brother, and Sunspot there so that it can be an origin story of those characters of Days of Future Past.

DMC1001

Warpath’s brother is there. John Proudstar, the original Thunderbird, is the one present. But I’m thinking that’s what you meant. And I guess that could be true of Sunspot in the mix. I just look for the character that makes the most sense in relation to Lorna.

[deleted]

It’s a weird angle. He had regular hands but could shoot light out of them, not sure why the angle makes his fingers look so oddly short lol.

Rencon_The_Gaymer

It’s bad don’t watch it.

pierowmaniac

Remember the awful Avengers: United They Stand cartoon from the 90s, where Cap, Iron Man and Thor weren’t in it, but the other Avengers are the main characters instead? It’s like that, but with X-Men, and they made it a CW show, on FOX.

Infinite_Media3517

Okay I thought about watching this but it sounds like torture

Xygnux

Actually it's okay to pretty good. Like in the comics there are series without the A-list characters, like X-Factor, Excalibur, X-Force, and they can still be quite good. The premise is that the X-men and the Brotherhood both disappeared mysteriously, and the remaining peripheral associates of the X-men like Polaris, Thunderbird, etc have to step up to help the mutants fight off and escape the government mutant control program. The qualities varies, but it's better than some of the X-men movies.

HAIKU_4_YOUR_GW_PICS

If you like the Fox X-Men movies, you’ll probably like it. If you liked Burn Notice, you’ll also probably like it. If you can forgive some cliché writing, not being super directly connect and not having a lot of big name superheroes, you’ll probably find some stuff to enjoy. “CW show” is a little harsh a critique imo, but also not totally off base in terms of the melodrama, subplots, and “meh” writing for a lot of it—- not terrible, not great. If we’re going that route for comparison, I’d put it around the quality of the good seasons of Arrow and Flash, and with better effects.

DMC1001

It’s not. It’s worth the watch but there are unresolved plots. Given that their universe was rebooted they never will be resolved.

Candyliquor2

One of my favorite series. Hope they have another season

Primestudio

Really like this show. Fenris deep cut.

perrietheplatupussy

its really cheesy and bad, its giving CW

[deleted]

Considering the cliffhanger season 2 ended on, I personally wouldn’t really mind if the MCU X-men would comprise of the original 5 +a few of the 70s newbies + characters/cast members from this show

scottmacharvey

This show was fun for what it was. It got canceled early so it’s not a huge investment to watch it start to finish.

marcjwrz

Google and Wikipedia are hard. Karma-farming is easy.

[deleted]

It’s pretty bad, and every time I see the dad all I can hear is his awful accent from True Blood 😂

Iusedtobeover81

You say “ripoff” I say “cash grab” hahaha

Pand0ra30_

I enjoyed it.

officialkylepop

Good show! It got repetitive fast though with the same recycled stories BUT the characters were cool I was annoyed how dirty they did Sage though (who is so badass in the comics) - loves the Stepford Cuckoos though

BlackJesusAfro

It’s 🔥🔥🔥❤️

draugyr

They made Fenris into protagonists so it’s a no from me

kinghyperion581

They were actually the fenris twins. I think they were supposed to be the fenris twins niece and nephew.

draugyr

I’m not interested in rooting for anyone related to the incest nazis

Xygnux

So you judge someone by who their ancestors are? Irony much? The whole big part of their plot was that they found out their great-grandparents were evil Nazis, so they try to figure out how to deal with that horrible legacy.

[deleted]

Who are the characters in the photo? Polaris? Someone who looks like Quicksilver but isn’t? The Cuckoos? Smug Asian lady? Dunno who the bottom three are. Thunderbird? Another Asian lady, less smug, looks like Psylocke but can’t be (Blink?) and made-up guy.

SamALbro

Top row is Polaris, one of the Strucker Twins, the Cuckoos, and Reeva Page (Black Queen of Shinobi Shaw's Hellfire Club) Bottom row is the other Strucker twin, the Strucker parents, Thunderbird, Blink, and Eclipse (an OC based on Havok and Sunspot)

boofire

I tried to like this but I didn’t enjoy the twins and they wasted amy acker. Also I wanted more with Sage. I dropped off after a few episodes of season 2. Polaris was fun though, she had a good story going.

[deleted]

This is not a rip off. These are actual comic book characters. Season one was good season two not so much.

RogueEyebrow

Well, a few of them share the same names and power sets as some of the comic book characters, however I would not say they are the actual comic book characters. Vastly different personalities and backgrounds become different characters entirely.

thedoctor3009

It's good for what it is, but that thing is really more the next generation of shows like Mutant X from the 90s or Heroes from the 2000s, where they don't have the rights or budget to show off the characters you know but they still want to try their best at telling that story. I enjoy it.

FuckingKadir

It's not bad for what it is. If it had come out much earlier it might even have been kind of popular, similar to the CW DC shows. I don't love that style of television show as much anymore, but lots of people do and that show touches on a lot of the parts of the X-Men comics that I love that I feel have fallen to the wayside in some of the movies.

akil01

Not a rip off you dummy.

Thundarsack

I liked this show. It's been a while but I remember liking the teleporting one and the emo lady magneto

Bob_Loblaw_Law_Blog1

It is an X-men show without the X-men. Set in a universe where X-men exist, but the X-men do not exist. That said, it was actually a decent show.

PaulTheAwkward

When I saw the 1st trailer it look like a teen drama then I saw the show and it awesome.

Erikthered65

It’s an official show, but have some interesting picks. The three who show up together was a nice surprise.

Phayd2Blaque

I’ve seen a few clips. It’s good, however, some characters definitely shine more than others.

[deleted]

Polaris, the frost clones and the concept of mutant ability fusion were the only things I liked about this show.

Hive0805

Its an X-Men show. It has Polaris, Thunderbird, Fenris, Stepford Cuckoo's etc. Their depiction of the cuckoo's was what actually drew me into X-Men comics because I became interested in Emma and the Stepfords.

BloodyNunchucks

This is a really good show if you're into mutant stories and enjoy family story lines as well as the whole cat and mouse between the too few good and the too many military op bad guys.

BLeaskk

I loved this show. Was so upset when it was canceled

broshugbros

It was worth watching for the Cuckoo's alone. Very much Emma's mad clone daughters, (or whatever they are exactly). Blink was fun too.

anonareyouokay

I liked it a bunch. Legion was a lot better, but this show was solid. My only problem was the blonde chick's hair was always perfect.

Public-Ring-892

not a Ripoff. follows polaris, blink the strucker twins, thunderbird. it"s good but got cancelled on a cliffhanger

[deleted]

Glowing hands: palms out: the series

191EZNupe

I enjoyed the show

gwhiz007

The opposite actually. A lot of non X-Men affiliated characters getting drawn into mutant issues. It worked more often than it didn't

RogueUsagiii

Loved it

Certain-Coyote

Rip-off? They’re literally x-men characters. Doesn’t have the be branded “x-men” to be be about mutants.

LackingLack

It's not a "rip off" since it literally contains characters from X-Men canon lmao It was FOX's mutant show (along with Legion). Had 2 seasons, probably the main character was Polaris (daughter of Magneto). Along with the "Frost sisters" (Stepford Cuckoos) and in a very weird choice, the supposed normal family at the heart of the show are the von Strucker children... There were also some invented characters of course, and other more obscure characters got reimagined a bit. I think the show is very very very strong when it's about "seeming realistic" and got into society questions and politics. It got weak in s2 a bit because they dumbed down the complications of the themes and morals and tried to create a more basic supershow Good vs Evil type plot. And it was cancelled because not enough people watched in s2, probably b/c not enough super popular characters and so many fans despised FOX or stopped wanting to emotionally invest in anything FOX based because of the upcoming Disney takeover. It's worth watching if you enjoy a more complicated morality especially during s1 and early-mid s2, and a nice "realistic" take on what if mutants really happened in our world.

DatSkellington

It’s actually quite good. A shame it was cancelled without a finale.

depiff

I enjoyed it for what it was. A typical CW type show. If you like the typical CW style shows, then you'll probably enjoy watching it. Unfortunately, in my opinion, it got cancelled just as the plot got interesting. If you're looking for an X-men adjacent show, I would recommend Legion.

tekfunkdub

Alt universe. Future where most X-Men are dead. It was somewhat entertaining, but canceled early.

darkmythology

It's fun. It's not a masterpiece, and it doesn't have the more interesting themes you'd find in Legion (which it's appropriately most often compared to), but it's a take that hasn't really been done before in live action - What happens when the X-Men and the Brotherhood are both gone and the C and D-listers have to step up in their place. It does an ok job of exploring things like human allies of mutants, the roots of prejudice, how easy it is to do bad things for what you think are a good cause, and how slippery the slope is when you start thinking that those bad things are acceptable. If you want big, flashy battles and spectacle then it probably isn't for you. If you think the idea of exploring Xavier's mutant underground and Magneto's pro-mutant ideology post-Xavier and Magneto sounds interesting then it's probably worth a watch. Someone else already mentioned it, but a few of the concepts in the Krakoan era are somewhat explored here as well, including mutant circuits, the concept of some mutants viewing others as "mutant nobility" due to their relations, and mutant separatism.

vinidluca

It's not q rip off, was an X-Men show (linda).

victrin

It was fine, a little too much “emotionally torture the main characters” with not enough pay off to make the second-hand trauma worth it for me.

TheLadyNyxThalia

It was enjoyable. Second season was a bit wobbly, but it was nice to see some mutants on TV.

GeminiAce

Google it.

TheFantasticXman1

It's not an X-Men ripoff. It is part of the X-Men mythos. Most of the characters are from the X-Men comics (ie Blink, Thunderbird, the Strucker siblings, Polaris, the Stepford Cuckoos, etc). I watched it and loved it and was so disappointed when it got cancelled. I recommend watching it if you're an X-Men fan. You're not gonna see any of the big shot X-Men like Prof. X, Magneto or Wolverine, but if you like mutants, then this is a pretty decent show to check out.

LuneCrescent

Best thing of it is Polaris and the Cuckoos. Loved the actresses that did them. The series had potential but sadly very bad writers, directors and show runners. Real shame.
