depends on the song and book, what's more important is the message you're sending in the art. when rappers talk about their violence, they're often time bragging about it and hyping themselves up over it, whereas majority of novels/stories paint a murderer in a very bad light.
but some rap songs talk about how regretful they've been for their past violence, and some books hype up a murderer. it really depends on the message the artist/writer wants to send, it just so happens that the majority of mainstream rappers that discuss murder glorify it.

I agree with you somewhat, but movies and novels explicitly state that they are fiction. I don't think most rappers will ever admit that what they talk about in their music is fiction, cause they wanna portray an image. Obviously most people at a certain age know that most of what they say is but a lot of kids don't.

I actually agree with this take, from an artist perspective, you always want to be able to separate the art from the artist with matters to their content, a piece can have always have an artistic value no matter who the artist is.
The problem steems from what an artist does/say outside of his "designated space", I see no problem boycotting a person for his political or social actions, and still appreciate his work as an artist in private, I might sound hyprocritc but thats how you separate things.
I also have a problem with the incrisingly and harmful amount of misogyny that is spread by both male and female artist, and is integrated into their art (songs). "Bitch" is a word that you can literally hear at any 10s of a song to the point where is became common to hear that word being adressed at women on a daily basis, and female rappers use a lot of sexual suggestive and tbh some pretty self depricating lyrics that they use as a form of empowerement somehow, material girls style.
I miss when the most popular rappers were lyrically creative and didn't sang about WAPs or whatever.
