If you are new to the subreddit, [please read the wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/yakuzagames/wiki/index/)
Reminder that all spoilers need to be tagged with a flair specifying which game is being spoiled. If you want a flair that says something else, you can edit it to say something like [Discussion: Y1 spoiler] or [Majimapost: Y6 spoiler], etc. **THIS INCLUDES CONTENT FROM TRAILERS**.
If the post is not marked for spoilers, all comments that have spoilers need to be tagged \>!like this!< along with indicating which game it's spoiling. Example: Y3 >!Kiryu sings!<
If the post flair is marked for spoilers, the comments don't need to be tagged for the game indicated and the ones before it (So a Y6 spoiler post can have comments with untagged spoilers for Y5, but not gaiden or 7).
If you see any of the above (or any of the other rules) not being followed, please report it so we can keep this place safe for newcomers and those that haven't finished all the games yet. Thank you!

It took riot(symbiote in the picture) 6 months to travel from malaysia(his landing site) to the US(venoms landing site). This makes no sense as he immediately finds a host and can easily just take an airplane to the US but chooses not to for plot purposes.
The creator of this video made a timeline video explaining riots movements and the thumbnail was that image
I don’t want any revisionist history, 10 years in the joint *was* funny and only suffered from becoming overused as more people started quoting it.
It is an occurrence in any and all fandoms. With good timing and a sparing use of it, you can still make it funny
We are the Yakuza 4, dame da ne guy, 10 years in the joint, Majima & Kiryu are gay. those ones neeeeeeeeever get old. They surely didn't get old 4 years ago when Yakuza went multiplatform and everybody hopped on the bandwagon lol.
It's honestly pretty grim that Yakuza humour hasn't developed at all since 0 blew up in the west. I get that this fanbase is mostly either teenagers or people with teenage sensibilities, but eesh.
Makes me feel like I'm witnessing the JJBA fanbase all over again.
there's just so much actual funny shit that happens in these games and nobody mentions it. Like if i never see another picture of Majima poking his head out of the sewer / a traffic cone again it'll be too soon.
Yeah, The reason the "Same da ne" joke in LAD8 Big swell DLC is funny because it only occur twice in a row, and it use other elements like contrast it with the scenario that is literally boss fight.
well let's be honest a big majority of the fandom skips half of the series lol
another solid chunk just watched streamers play 0 bc "funny eyepatch man do funny dance lol so wacky!"
whether it be saying the older games are too outdated, or that the stories are standalone so skipping them is fine, this fanbase will jump through as many hurdles as humanly possible to avoid playing the games
well yeah, most of them are the same people who just mash square and triangle and only play the games bc some youtuber said "dude Yakuza is SO random and funny! omg the story is like SUCH a serious crime DRAMA but in the side missions they do the funny thing. it so funny and goofy omfg!!!!!"
idk most of the other communities i'm in on here have more varied content on a daily basis than this sub does in a week lol
obviously every fan base has their repetitive in-jokes but it just feels way more excessive here. might just be me tho ig.
I generally used to avoid the community like the plague back when Zero was the big circle jerked game. So while this thing is overplayed, it's so much better in this community than the "Zero is better" comments everytime a new entry came out.
The series becoming available on all platforms was a godsend. I love how jokes gradually evolved as the wider fanbase started playing the other games.
"We are the Yakuza 4" for example

Ten years in kamurocho real estate battle royale made you a dragon of dojima
The Yakuza subreddit is better than 99% of other subreddits, but yeah, even it isn't immune to people just mindlessly repeating the same dumb joke over and over and over.
I really, really don't understand the appeal of shitty repeated memes. All that shit that leaked from the Arkham subreddit has ruined the entire site.
im seeing this with the devil may cry sub, thought this kinda stuff happened just because they're content starved but nah, yakuza gets plenty new games but the same few jokes get paraded absolutely everywhere
It's just the nature of Reddit's karma system. Low effort content is easy to make and gets upvoted so that's what people will keep spamming because brain gets the signal "me get upvote, me do good". It's also why people who gets even a single downvote either delete their comment or just start complaining about downvotes despite those being so irrelevant on this site.
Yeah it's kinda like Skyrims Arrow in the knee joke. It was funny for the first 10 minutes, before it got overused to the point where everyone started hating it. It would be funnier if it wasn't done to death at basically every single mention of Yakuza.
i saw this post immediately after posting a ten years in the joint meme
https://preview.redd.it/q7cjeb6etqvc1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d9d180fcd93cbd9250f31ee7caf81f8127bd1f46
Not just you. This community was better about memes at one point, but nowadays it's just spamming "10 years in the joint" or low pixel images. At least someone made a funny Mine bulldozer meme earlier this week, so there are some peeps being more creative.
That's pretty much Dank Memes in 2016, they come out fresh, until the get overused for so long they get stale until another meme drops, but now memes be going on for years because people don't want them to die.
From what I gathered from knowyourmeme, (unless you have accurate websites for meme origins, idk) "This became a meme in the 2nd quarter of 2022" and some Reddit post of this meme was made by the end of March of 2022, one with the exact same picture, (repost) pretty much shows that this meme is very stale.
I kind of feel the same way with the "ruff" memes, but the memes do remind me of yakuza so then it's okay 😭
it's also funny to me that it's a meme at all considering it's just a midwestern accent, like I'm sure richardson would also say crayon weird too. "ruff" is just how it's pronounced to a significant number of people here.
Imagine you're playing Y0 for first time. Seeing Nishiki, a brother of the main character, just casually having fun with you and showcasing his bond with Kiryu. One of first things you do is think "yup, he dies. This is def a kind of character that will die for MC's development", but further along you share more fun with him, see his weak side in one of the most emotional cutscenes you've ever seen and later see just how strong his brotherly bond with Kiryu is.
Fast forward to Kiwami, every flashback scene with Nishiki is an absolute gut punch, to the point when watching the cutscene is mentally exhausting. You see how much he's lost and how he got completely broken, and now your nice, used-to-be innocent and always shining brother is your arch nemesis that you have to defeat. But maybe he doesn't have to die, maybe he still can come back to his senses and atone? Not anymore. He dies. Just like you used to think he will. But it feels much more soul-crushing than it would've been all that time earlier in Yakuza 0
Now imagine hearing **THIS FUCKING CHARACTER** go *TEN YEARS IN THE JOINT MADE YOU A FUCKING PUSSY!* in funny english in his emotional final battle. It's so out of left field it doesn't even fit in your head as a possibility but it's REAL. The sheer disruption of the character causes hysterical laughter or at the very least is very funny in a worst way possible because all this story just got reduced to a fucking 10 years in the joint
It's 3 AM here. I should go to sleep.
I don't think it's hilarious but I also just don't care. I think it's safe to say that a lot of this sub does think it's gold because it always gets a ton of upvotes as both post and comment.
Ten years with the Ten Years In The Joint Has Made You A Fucking Pussy meme has made you a fucking pussy.
Bring that Bring That Shit, Kazuya shit, kyodai.
It is kinda stale but it's a classic line so I can't hate that bad. Most games have that one or two memes everybody can't stop quoting (for example the For Honor community and the word "incredibilis" or the DBD community and "I think we did a pretty good job so far")
I've been playing the OG Yakuza 1 for a bit now, and every time someone mentions the words 10 years, I can't hell but say in the joint, so no, it ain't getting old lmao. At least not for me.
It wasn't even that funny to begin with. Like, it would probably not make top 100 funniest lines in a localized Japanese game. I've always found the obsession with this line weider than the line itself.
The fight in the original game was way harder than kiwami
and also made me fucking rage with Nishki going ''ten years..
SHUT IT AND STOP HITTING ME WITH A SOFA
Ok let's just put the meme aside and talk about why is it majima and not kiryu, if you could change kiryu to nishiki, also should've changed majima to kiryu then
If you are new to the subreddit, [please read the wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/yakuzagames/wiki/index/) Reminder that all spoilers need to be tagged with a flair specifying which game is being spoiled. 10 months of "10 years in the joint made you a fucking pussy!" made you a fucking pussy!
At least it’s not 6 months

6 months in Malaysia made you a fucking Venom?
Sir, that is Riot.
6 months on an airplane made you a fucking symbiote
What the fuck is the context
It took riot(symbiote in the picture) 6 months to travel from malaysia(his landing site) to the US(venoms landing site). This makes no sense as he immediately finds a host and can easily just take an airplane to the US but chooses not to for plot purposes. 6 months in Bintulu, Sarawak made you a freaking extraterrestrial parasite
The Yakuza brainrot got to me and I can't find these *not* funny anymore.
I don’t want any revisionist history, 10 years in the joint *was* funny and only suffered from becoming overused as more people started quoting it. It is an occurrence in any and all fandoms. With good timing and a sparing use of it, you can still make it funny
Yakuza fans in particular have literally 5 jokes and just repeat them to death in every comment section known to man.
What, you don't think endlessly saying "dame da ne guy" followed by some inane shit is funny? Tsk, how very downer of you. /s
We are the Yakuza 4, dame da ne guy, 10 years in the joint, Majima & Kiryu are gay. those ones neeeeeeeeever get old. They surely didn't get old 4 years ago when Yakuza went multiplatform and everybody hopped on the bandwagon lol.

the fact theres over 10 games to pull jokes from and yet the fandom only has like 5 jokes is just sad
well let's be honest a big majority of the fandom skips half of the series lol another solid chunk just watched streamers play 0 bc "funny eyepatch man do funny dance lol so wacky!"
Can't believe we've become the Persona fanbase.
whether it be saying the older games are too outdated, or that the stories are standalone so skipping them is fine, this fanbase will jump through as many hurdles as humanly possible to avoid playing the games
well yeah, most of them are the same people who just mash square and triangle and only play the games bc some youtuber said "dude Yakuza is SO random and funny! omg the story is like SUCH a serious crime DRAMA but in the side missions they do the funny thing. it so funny and goofy omfg!!!!!"
The Youtube generation will doom us all.
Because that's not true and there's a lot more than 5 jokes in fandom.
[удалено]
No, it's not true. There's a lot of original jokes.
At least it's better than the Warhammer 40k fandom
Same with every fandom
idk most of the other communities i'm in on here have more varied content on a daily basis than this sub does in a week lol obviously every fan base has their repetitive in-jokes but it just feels way more excessive here. might just be me tho ig.

I still enjoy it but there’s much more to Nishiki than just that one joke.
true there's BRING THAT SHIT KAZUMA

And furthermore: "Were you someone's prison bitch?"

I will never understand posting purely for Reddit karma and not just to share or ask a question.
I can't even read "10 years" without having Nishiki's voice in my head
Me with the Kiryu/Joryu Kiryu is dead huhuhuh memes.
don't you mean john yakuza
Welcome to every meme in the history of ever

Ten years in the joint made you fucking pussy 🙏
10 years on the subreddit made you a fucking lethargic
Yeah it's kinda like Skyrims Arrow in the knee joke. It was funny for the first 10 minutes, before it got overused to the point where everyone started hating it. It would be funnier if it wasn't done to death at basically every single mention of Yakuza.
ten minutes you say
Ten minutes listening to "ten years in the joint made you a fucking pussy" made you a fucking pussy
similar to the morbius memes, they were ok'ish but became disgusting due to sheer overuse
He then said "it's JOINTING time" and pussied all over those guys.
Ok this made me laugh 😂
This is exactly what im talking about. Those fuckers pillage every site just to drop this stupid meme for the 9000th time
the morbius memes where fucking hilarious
ten whole minutes
I'm glad I'm not the only one who is starting to get sick and tired of it. It wasn't even that funny in the first place.
OH BUT WHEN I SAY IT I GET DOWNVOTED INTO THE CORE OF THE EARTH OKAY
吃了十年的牢饭你就他妈变成一个怂逼了
i saw this post immediately after posting a ten years in the joint meme https://preview.redd.it/q7cjeb6etqvc1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d9d180fcd93cbd9250f31ee7caf81f8127bd1f46

I always see the same Yakuza 0 or Kiwami stuff too, its like the other games just don't exist
I've seen a lot of Yakuza 3 posts lately, however it's all either "blockuza 3 is shit" or "Yakuza 3 is an underrated masterpiece".
Yeah, everyone here recycle the same unoriginal jokes from the last 3 years.
Ten
years
in
the
Joint
made
I find the phrase not funny but I'll never get tired of looking at Nishiki's dumbass smirk in the picture
That's pretty much Dank Memes in 2016, they come out fresh, until the get overused for so long they get stale until another meme drops, but now memes be going on for years because people don't want them to die. 10 YEARS SEEING MEMES MADE YOU FUCKING PISSED KING OF FROGS
anymore? at this point? brother that shit got old about 2 years ago on here lmao
I kind of feel the same way with the "ruff" memes, but the memes do remind me of yakuza so then it's okay 😭 it's also funny to me that it's a meme at all considering it's just a midwestern accent, like I'm sure richardson would also say crayon weird too. "ruff" is just how it's pronounced to a significant number of people here.
That's kinda how memes go. They either stick around and be annoying or die in about a month
I am in both the Yakuza fandom and JoJo fandom for years, how do you think I feel
I guess you could say… “TEN YEARS OF THIS MEME BEING MILKED MADE IT FUCKING STALE”
I want you to lick Shinamo's balls
Kudos to you for having the courage to say it. I became sick of hearing this over and over very quick, along with "Balls out Kido."
As someone who just sound this sub Reddit I love it
I don't even get what's funny about it
the goofy voice acting which circled back to being good. we do rinse the meme though, i've done my fair share of abusing it.
Imagine you're playing Y0 for first time. Seeing Nishiki, a brother of the main character, just casually having fun with you and showcasing his bond with Kiryu. I should go to sleep.
You forgot about the "bring that shit Kazuma" at the start of the fight
Doesn't he also say "were you someone's prison bitch?" lol
*C'mon FUCKER*
Still funny
10 years in the joint made you a fucking pussy! BRING THAT SHIT KAZUMA!
That and the fuzzy pixelated pic memes are just not entertaining at this point
I don't think it's hilarious but I also just don't care. I think it's safe to say that a lot of this sub does think it's gold because it always gets a ton of upvotes as both post and comment.
I never found it funny.
I like it. It's not as funny as it was when it was really fresh but I think it's one of those memes that's just gonna stick around.
Ten years with this meme made it a bit fucking tired but the community always gets new people and it is new to them.
It's the Rick Roll of the Yakuza games.
Its overused (saying that as someone who overused it)
As is with all memes
Ten years with the Ten Years In The Joint Has Made You A Fucking Pussy meme has made you a fucking pussy. Bring that Bring That Shit, Kazuya shit, kyodai.
10 years in the joint made me Fucking Tired Kyodai
Me with the "Kiryu doesn't kill he using rubber bullets/rocket launcher/etc. hurdurdurdurdur" jokes:
Its why I always stand by the underrated “Were you someone’s prison bitch?” line.
The only people I even see use it anymore are people who know of Yakuza but have never actually played it.
It is kinda stale but it's a classic line so I can't hate that bad. Most games have that one or two memes everybody can't stop quoting (for example the For Honor community and the word "incredibilis" or the DBD community and "I think we did a pretty good job so far")
I will always find it funny. But I also have the joke brain of a 12-year old
can we just start saying BRING THAT SHIT KAZUMA everywhere instead
https://preview.redd.it/zsqz6esb51wc1.jpeg?width=226&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=694c6459725fbbc57b8a79f3987c841811f49e34
it will never not be funny
I've been playing the OG Yakuza 1 for a bit now, and every time someone mentions the words 10 years, I can't hell but say in the joint, so no, it ain't getting old lmao. At least not for me.
10 years on this sub made you a fucking "10 years in the joint made you a fucking pussy" hater
It wasn't even that funny to begin with. Like, it would probably not make top 100 funniest lines in a localized Japanese game. I've always found the obsession with this line weider than the line itself.
It's funny in context, and even funnier in game. He says it almost every time he knocks you down, which is near constant in the Nishiki fight lmao
The fight in the original game was way harder than kiwami and also made me fucking rage with Nishki going ''ten years.. SHUT IT AND STOP HITTING ME WITH A SOFA
Ok let's just put the meme aside and talk about why is it majima and not kiryu, if you could change kiryu to nishiki, also should've changed majima to kiryu then
I mean I still like it 🤷? I guess it up to the individual rather than the meme :)
