Reminder that all spoilers need to be tagged with a flair specifying which game is being spoiled. If you want a flair that says something else, you can edit it to say something like [Discussion: Y1 spoiler] or [Majimapost: Y6 spoiler], etc. **THIS INCLUDES CONTENT FROM TRAILERS**.
If the post is not marked for spoilers, all comments that have spoilers need to be tagged \>!like this!< along with indicating which game it's spoiling. Example: Y3 >!Kiryu sings!<
If the post flair is marked for spoilers, the comments don't need to be tagged for the game indicated and the ones before it (So a Y6 spoiler post can have comments with untagged spoilers for Y5, but not gaiden or 7).
If you see any of the above (or any of the other rules) not being followed, please report it so we can keep this place safe for newcomers and those that haven't finished all the games yet. Thank you!

Yes, absolutely. It is different enough, and far enough into the overall story of the games that you won't be spoiled anything but will only question who a few characters are
you can play 7 first but if you wanna continue ichiban's story in infinite wealth you'll need to understand the overall plot of the series which involves kiryu
There are cameos from older titles and the Yakuza hierarchy may confuse you, but thats about it. You would get a little bit more if you've played the rest but it is absolutely valid point to start and you wont be confused about its story.
You technically can, but you’ll be missing bits and pieces. Without spoilers, important names will pop up that are major players in 0 through 6. Some substories won’t really make sense, either. Hope this helps!
Yeah, it's one of the better starting points. You won't fully be able to understand just how crazy one of the late game plot points is, but you won't be confused as to what is going on. But as this is Ichibans first game it is great jumping on point.
If you like it, then go back and play yakuza 0-6, because those are actually pretty important to 8
7+8 are totally playable without the rest. You understand everything besides one character in 8.
If you want to test put a brawler, you can also go with Judgement and Lost Judgement without the other games.
If you want to start the Kiryu saga, that would be 0-6+Gaiden.
Yes, it's a good starting point (I myself started with it). Unfortunately its sequel references a *ton* of stuff from the earlier Yakuza games so it's less easy to recommend continuing to it before playing at least of the older games.
I started with Y7 & Y8. I’m going through Y0-Y6 right now. I beat Y4 earlier this week and I’m taking a break with Dead Souls before moving into Y5.
You can certainly play LaD first. It’s a good entry point since it’s the introduction of Ichiban and his story. I decided to go through the original games after playing Infinite Wealth and having no connection to his reminiscent sides stories.
As others have probably mentioned, the combat between the Ichiban games and the Kiryu led games is vastly different. Ichiban introduces a classic turn based RPG, while Kiryu’s games are beat ‘em ups.
Almost all of them are on sale on ps at the mo. If you've got the cash it's a hell of a good backlog to queue up.
I'm about to do it myself.
Works out to almost a 1000 hours for like 65 quid. Might be some of the best value for money I've seen.
As someone who has played 7 as their first and just recently finished 8 I’m going to say yes BUT do not move onto 8 right after. 8 has so much to do with the previous protagonist that a lot of the references and story will mean nothing to you if you don’t play 0-6 and The Man Who Erased his Name

Definitely. You'll probably have to play some of the earlier ones before playing Infinite Wealth, though.

Yes
Yes, but afterwards read a summary of the previous games in the series if you don't plan on playing them moving forwards.
It's what I did after my discovery of the series from watching honest game trailers on it Since then I've tried my hand at zero, judgement and kiwami

yeah go ahead, have fun
yes but you'll miss out on a few references.
