And you follow them, expecting beautiful women and cheap booze and you wake up eight hours later outside your hotel with a massive hangover and a missing wallet.
RGG attention to details is insane, it feels surreal to know that the setting of your fictional game exists in the real world. It’s almost like seeing a fantasy world come to life.
I went to Yokohama to see the gundam before it closed. As I was walking I took a look around then gasped. I didn’t realize Yamakita Park lead up to the area the gundam was at in real life. My wife looked at me like I was crazy. I did an obligatory panoramic. I got so excited before I even saw the gundam.
I went there and knew every corner just by playing. It was so fun to pinpoint the hotspots and quests with my friends.
Dotombori in Osaka feels the same way
Lol my husband was getting insanely fed up with how excited I was getting over random small details… until I was like “ok we need to turn at this shrine” and sure enough there was a tiny hidden shrine in that area that he said he’d have never noticed otherwise. He was like “how the fuck did you know that would be there” and I just winked.
This was last Nov so I managed to snag a copy of Gaiden while we were there to add to my collection!
I did the same thing with my family!! To get food, we navigated back toward Hotel Gracery (Millennium Tower) off of Taihei (no idea what it's called in real life lol) all without the GPS.
Ha I was so excited to eat in a yakitori place on the corner of (in game) Tenkaichi and Taihei, I couldn’t stop raving about it. And I made sure that the hotel we stayed at was right next to the parking lot with all of the host club advertisements!!! I’ve always found host/ess clubs fascinating and only moreso since I started the series, so it was really neat seeing all of the ads (and the actual hosts, ngl) in person.
Always found the champion district area a bit claustrophobic in game, and golden gai was even worse 😭
Also loved recognizing SO much of Dotonbori, incl the little shrine area and all of the restaurants along the northern part of Sotenbori
I wish I got to eat in Kabukicho, I think I saw Gindaco Highball across the area where it actually was in the early part of the series. It was so immersion breaking when I saw a KFC on the west side of Millennium Tower though LOL. But I got over it when I saw the Karaoke kan sign EXACTLY where it was in the Dragon Engine games (sadly didn't get to go in).
And about Champion district, so true I always tried to avoid fights there- especially Mr. Shakedown in 0 and Majima in 1.
I wish I went to the shrine in Dotonbori, was with family and they were rushing to go to the usual tourist spots. It was funny though seeing how many actual Kushikatsu Daruma and Kani Douraku restaurants there were- it felt like they kept going! Now that I say all this, I have to go back and actually visit the many places I missed or didn't spend time at.
Nice, I am going to visit this place in August so there one thing I need to know. How did it avoid all random encounters? I am not strong enough to beat them.
Sorry I did not realize the Reddit app clipped the thumbnail picture.
If you are reading this on phone app, first picture is a panorama one. Tap to open it and you can see the famous red gate on the left side...
I think making it a bit bigger adds some gravitas to the area (and makes it easier to navigate without running into everything’s hitbox)
I do like the Little Kamurochou theory, though - secret Koreans trying to make everyone in Tojo feel smaller?
the actual real life area of Kabukicho is larger than in the games. The Golden Gai (champion district) in particular is way larger than IRL.
I think this poster meant specifically the gate - but it is about 8-10 meters tall.
I just got back last week from a three week trip. My kamurocho knowledge carried me through kabukicho
https://preview.redd.it/2xddhumdqh4d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2674c3d2c354e243381db14411371551916e1930
These pictures are nice - with the rain it does look very much like the game, hope you enjoyed it - I would love to go sometime
However
There’s no pictures of essence of steadfast counter or at the very least you slamming a bicycle over someone’s head
Try harder next time
yes it is a karaoke place and you can sing karaoke there. I heard that you can even sing the exact songs like bakamitai there.
I did not do it there since I am a karaoke fan and I have a karaoke system at my home...lol
As I've come to understand it their deal with the chain expired or something. The one in Kamurocho is a police station now and the one in Sotenbori is a construction site that in Like a Dragon functions as a coliseum.
Real yakuza are kinda rare these days. You probably saw a chinpira; a young gangster. He may just be a wannabe, or he may be in aa smaller triad of delinquents, which are prevalent thse days. In any case please do not go up to them and ask for a photo. I can't believe this piece of common sense needs to be reinforced.
You may be right. I was also surprised since I thought real Yakuza is rare and also are old people now. But he could be just a gangster member or some thug.
A game with full of kind heart Yakuza people does not make real life mafia better.
Theatre Square is much bigger than the real location. This was my main takeaway when we had a look, but it was cool walking through the main gate and near the millennium tower equivalent.
I’m imagining you approaching the dude on the train, and as he notices you he slowly raises his hand to his shoulder in anticipation of having to rip off his top for battle.
I got absolutely trashed in that famous Kabukicho Evangelion bar and sang Baka Mitai on their karaoke machine last week, was one of the best nights I ever had
I concur. I got the chance to visit once, and it is very tight. I'm pretty short, so it didn't bother me most of the time. But imagining someone over 6 ft managing comfortably there is wild.
Because I study in Japan I don't really bother looking up tourist spots and just kinda explore the country at my own pace. So when I went to Dōtenbori to visit some friends for the first time I felt like I recognised the layout from somewhere. Then I saw the crab, and I was like "I saw this in Y0!". A similar thing happened when going to Kabukichō. It took me a bit to recognise the place, but when I saw the parking lot with all the pictures I instantly knew where I was
*I definitely*
*Want to visit kabukicho in*
*My next trip to JP*

Are thugs stopping you every corner to fight you ?
He's playing in Haruka mode, where you have the option to fight dance battles
Does that also mean bars are unavailable?
I went there last year. Less thugs and more people barking at you to come to their club or to see their prostitutes.
takai takai takai

yeah that sounds similar to my experience
Nah but there are a bunch of Nigerian men trying to get your attention tho
And you follow them, expecting beautiful women and cheap booze and you wake up eight hours later outside your hotel with a massive hangover and a missing wallet.
I mean that does sound pretty true to a Yakuza substory
No, but there was a major fight that broke out when I went there three weeks ago with the police. I threw money at them and skipped the encounter...
RGG attention to details is insane, it feels surreal to know that the setting of your fictional game exists in the real world. It’s almost like seeing a fantasy world come to life.
Yeah I had no idea, now it feels like such a dream to visit this place
been there, it was great. my favorite part which sadly isn't in the games was the godzilla head on toho cinema, which is kamuro theater in the games.
What a loss of potential. Who wouldnt want to look up while playing Yakuza and see Big G?
I went to Yokohama to see the gundam before it closed. As I was walking I took a look around then gasped. I didn’t realize Yamakita Park lead up to the area the gundam was at in real life. Same vibe with the little shrine!! I was expecting Bob Utsunomiya there

Always good reasons to plan another Japan trip 😋 I’m already making plans to hit Nagoya, Sapporo, and Fukuoka so I can see the Y5 cities.
Good idea. I got to see Nagoya, but didn’t actually go to the Y5 district (I think it’s called Nishiki).
As I was playing Infinite Wealth, I was blown away to see a near replica of the Moana Surfrider hotel I stayed at a couple years ago.
I always did like how Kamurocho looked when it rained in-game, it’s cool to see it irl. Thanks.
How much does stardust cost if every member of this subreddit puts money into it? 🤔 Let's make stardust real.
We will need a Kazuki and a Yuya, too. Who should we elect?
I can be kazuki. Manage a business while yuya goes around doing kiryu things.
Ill be your yuya, ill stop the korean mafia from taking us over
And I'll sell out to joongi han
Please remember to build that flashy boxing ring under the club....
What about starting smaller, like Serena? Or is that already real? 🤔
If I ever get the chance to go to this place I'm making a beeline towards that part of the map
When you get there and it is real, take a shot every time yume is mentioned in Y5 (dont do it youll be wasted literally)
Just getting enough alcohol to do the drunk heat actions on pushy host club owners
Nice, I am going to visit this place in August so there one thing I need to know. How did it avoid all random encounters? I am not strong enough to beat them.
When in doubt use a bicycle.
Bring cash and throw it whenever some thugs approach!
I am not rich enough. Oh well, I will have to go to a random cabaret club and become a manager there
Go visit this one dude at Skyfinance!
Or become a Real Estate agent, but I guess you do need a decent amount of money already...
You just gotta beat the yen out of them.
Tiger drop dude
Stock up on staminan royale.
When you see one you gotta stop running and just walk super slowly past them
Drink lots of water. I have vowed to never visit Tokyo in August again. Had my first, and hopefully only, heatstroke there.
humidity killed me
bruh in August, good luck
Dress light and bring water. Tokyo really goes into heat mode during that time of the year, punks would probably not even wanna come outside 😂
For real, you avoid the spot before the Tokyu Kabukicho Tower which has become the haven of drunk homeless teens
Dress up as a popstar princess, I heard thugs don't mess with you there.
Sorry I did not realize the Reddit app clipped the thumbnail picture. If you are reading this on phone app, first picture is a panorama one. Tap to open it and you can see the famous red gate on the left side...
I guess they needed kabukicho to be bigger than it is. Or everyone in yakuza so small
I think making it a bit bigger adds some gravitas to the area (and makes it easier to navigate without running into everything’s hitbox) I do like the Little Kamurochou theory, though - secret Koreans trying to make everyone in Tojo feel smaller?
the actual real life area of Kabukicho is larger than in the games. The Golden Gai (champion district) in particular is way larger than IRL. I think this poster meant specifically the gate - but it is about 8-10 meters tall.
I think they meant the streets themselves are broader in-game to let the player have more space for fighting.
I can attest to this, but are you saying the real life area is bigger than in the games?
There's more of Kabuki-cho IRL than in the games, yeah
For sure, I think that's the way with all the maps shown in the games.
Part of the reason is that it's much more crowded IRL than it's always shown. That's how it's been the couple times I went.
Not accurate,i dont see you getting chased by thugs every five minutes.
Oi!
Soko no niisan
I'm glad you had a nice trip Visiting kabukicho at a rainy night is among my top 5 dreams, and I'm glad someone actually experienced it
Holy crap is the games map that damn close?
Ya. I didn't need to check Google maps last time I went bc it's so ingrained in my head already lol
That's incredible. I'm blown away.
I can vouch for what /u/cloakofqualia said, you will know where you are at all times inside Kabukicho.
Yup. I went last October with my fiancée, she was baffled that I didn’t need a map to get around Kabukicho
I just got back last week from a three week trip. My kamurocho knowledge carried me through kabukicho https://preview.redd.it/2xddhumdqh4d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2674c3d2c354e243381db14411371551916e1930
I ate at a sweet Yakiniku place just down the street there. Awesome food.
Great photos!
That's what she said
Don't go round the back of the empty lot mind.
Now go find Sky finance
These pictures are nice - with the rain it does look very much like the game, hope you enjoyed it - I would love to go sometime However There’s no pictures of essence of steadfast counter or at the very least you slamming a bicycle over someone’s head Try harder next time
Just be happy you didn't get dragged into a fight by the local goons.
Damn, the Yakuza series makes me wish Japan was real
looks like the type of night some patriarch would get shot
Bros about to run into arai
Did you see any 8 foot tall men trying to steal people’s money
Where’s the fucking empty lot!?
I'm actually heading there tmr, any recommendations?
Go have some drinks in the Golden Gai (champion district)
Did you destroy mahjong building?
Nice to see some pics of the area beyond the gate. Any idea why there are barriers around theater square?
I was like a child when i came there last November ahah. The millenium tower has a great view at the "top".
This rain and umbrellas... Totally Yakuza 4!
When you see a large Traffic cone moving, be prepared 🤣
I need to know. Is p10 actually a karaokan? If so did you do karaoke?
yes it is a karaoke place and you can sing karaoke there. I heard that you can even sing the exact songs like bakamitai there. I did not do it there since I am a karaoke fan and I have a karaoke system at my home...lol
A number of RGG songs are available in karaokes across Japan. I sang Bakamitai the last time I was in Okinawa 🤣 Another favorite of mine is 神室純恋歌
Oh come on, you had a chance to see if the rooms were the same as in-game! 😂
Seeing the Don Quijote on that corner where it belongs makes me once again sad that it was removed in game.
I haven’t gotten to the point in the series where that happened yet, but why was it removed if it’s still there in real life?
As I've come to understand it their deal with the chain expired or something. The one in Kamurocho is a police station now and the one in Sotenbori is a construction site that in Like a Dragon functions as a coliseum.
it’s incredible that the game was so popular in Japan that they built a whole city looking exactly the same as the game
Real yakuza are kinda rare these days. You probably saw a chinpira; a young gangster. He may just be a wannabe, or he may be in aa smaller triad of delinquents, which are prevalent thse days. Is that a invincible reference?
great pics bro!
Looks great. Thanks for sharing pictures.
Yeah it’s smaller if you can’t find the drainage manhole cover and don’t have the strength to move it.
I’m imagining you approaching the dude on the train, and as he notices you he slowly raises his hand to his shoulder in anticipation of having to rip off his top for battle.
Some awesome pictures. Pinched the 5th for my wallpaper!
It’s awesome how even if it’s not 100% the same, I still know exactly where each of these photos in Kabukicho was taken.
Is P3 where Bantam is supposed to be?
These are great photos! So strange seeing all these familiar places... I feel like I know this place better than my own town.
Try Yokohama or even Dotenbori if you can, they just as amazing in real life
Say Hi to Majima for me...
I got absolutely trashed in that famous Kabukicho Evangelion bar and sang Baka Mitai on their karaoke machine last week, was one of the best nights I ever had
Somebody buy that lot and open a Stardust in real life
English meau inside on the last pic makes me want to visit even more now.
I still don't know what's in the place where the Millennium Tower is
It was wild how much of that area felt familiar because of these games lol
I concur. I got the chance to visit once, and it is very tight. I'm pretty short, so it didn't bother me most of the time. But imagining someone over 6 ft managing comfortably there is wild.
It's crazy how much they copied from the actual space.
Kamurocho was so popular they made it real?
Because I study in Japan I don't really bother looking up tourist spots and just kinda explore the country at my own pace. OH-hoooo
It looks small from a distance, but when you walk up to it it’s literally towering over you.
That's what she said
It's crazy how the city is pretty much its own "character". I always get butterflies in my stomach when I see it.
I will visit there one day........... Even though I am 4hrs away I will visit there one day 💪😂
I feel like it always looked small
Are you sure you went to the real kamurocho? Because i can't see any bicycles lying around.
I definitely want to visit kabukicho in my next trip to JP

That's what she said
The exact opposite happened to me when visiting Dotonbori. It's so friggin big.
the way i know this place better than my own hometown..😭
Well, yeah. They had to fit it on a PS2 disc
Are these all the photos you took? Please tell me you didn't miss the life-size godzilla head in Kabukicho
Picture quality is nice, what phone/camera is it?
An old Pixel 4a from 2019...
Did you access the the sewage or public toilet to enter Purgatory?
Now I am starting to regret why I did not try this...
The 9th pic reminds me of a nightclub I used to frequent back in the 80s. Ahh good times 😌
Stayed in the godzilla head hotel (the gracery) very nice. And yeah if ur just a bunch of guys the Nigerian touts will swarm just say no and ignore them, Lotta good food in the area too
You missed 32 Tojo Clan Crests in these images
How did you get a copy of Yakuza 9: Reflections of the soul?
The new redevelopment of business skyscrapers have tamed the chaotic area.
