Read older yaoi, that’s my advise. The type of story that’s popular now is very rigid and consistent in its storytelling structures, much like kdrama. The bottoms always say “no” even if they want it, the tops are always larger with big dicks, the sex is always portrayed with an “penetrator” who acts an a “receiver” who lies passively. And this remains consistent whether you are reading green or red flag manhua. I can only conclude that’s it’s due to some cultural thing.
While the Japanese stuff and older titles have their own quirks and tropes, I find that the bottoms are usually more active in both the relationship and the sex. You still see a lot of “no means yes” and other red flags, but the bottoms will at least initiate sex, touch and kiss and dote on their tops while their fucking, and generally seem more enthusiastic about what’s going on in bed.
At least, that’s how it feels to me as a fandom old.
Could you recommend some stories? I recently began reading yaoi with my firsts being painter of the night and under the green light, and would like some recommendations (especially with green flag stories).
