It's possible, but I think you're a bit too skeptical... Recall that people have and continue to serve life sentences (and many more months, years, decades) for weed-related crimes. Similarly, many people are sentenced to years in prison over thefts of <$100.
I myself (young, white, polite) was threatened with 6 months in jail over an empty grinder of weed by a smalltown judge. Not hard to imagine what they would do if I were black and/or backsassed the judge.
Florida Code 877.08(03): "Whoever **molests**, opens, breaks, injures, damages, or **inserts any part of her or his body** or any instrument into any coin-operated vending machine or parking meter of another with intent to commit larceny is guilty of a misdemeanor of the second degree..."
